Project #Groundswell Memo, Number 17: What Conspiracy? Oh, That Conspiracy!

It’s important, when prominent conservatives coordinate messaging, that your project inspire raging paranoid fear on the Left. Everyone whose involvement is not already a matter of public record should be careful neither to confirm nor deny their participation:

“Believing they are losing the messaging war with progressives, a group of prominent conservatives in Washington — including the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and journalists from Breitbart News and the Washington Examiner — has been meeting privately since early this year to concoct talking points, coordinate messaging, and hatch plans for “a 30 front war seeking to fundamentally transform the nation,” according to documents obtained by Mother Jones.
Dubbed Groundswell, this coalition convenes weekly in the offices of Judicial Watch, the conservative legal watchdog group. During these hush-hush sessions and through a Google group, the members of Groundswell — including aides to congressional Republicans — cook up battle plans for their ongoing fights against the Obama administration, congressional Democrats, progressive outfits, and the Republican establishment and “clueless” GOP congressional leaders.

Certainly these “prominent conservatives in Washington” will disavow any claim that I ever attended their “hush-hush sessions” and, with no proof of such attendance, there can be no way to dispel the paranoid fantasies of deranged leftists that we’re all in on the plot.

Of course, we’re all in on it. Am I right?

No prominent conservative should ever deny that they’re part of this shadowy clandestine conspiracy, you see, because if you deny it, then obviously you aren’t really “prominent,” are you?

But a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse, IYKWIMAITYD.

  1. I have no idea what you’re talking about, and I had no idea what they were talking about when they sent me that memo two weeks ago, which somehow I managed not to receive.

  2. Exactly. It was in that message they didn’t send to that secret list we know nothing about.

  3. I got my Groundswell check last week… You didn’t get yours? Maybe it got lost in the mail.

Somebody broke the first rule of Groundswell–

  4. If I were in on this, which I’m not saying that I am, I would take my pay in non-consecutive unmarked small bills, disbursed on an irregular schedule in amounts far too small to trigger federal tracking.

I would do it this way because the people providing the funds insist, though that may be because it’s me…

  5. Why do people treat “Mother Jones” like a news outlet? It’s a left-fascist propaganda rag.

  6. I love how the deranged cyberstalker is threatening to reveal Groundswell funded projects older than its very existence. Apparently they built a time machine

  7. I’ve never been to DC. I’ve never ever even left the state of Texas. No you can’t see my bank statements or the travel vouchers I never got.

  8. Well I certainly wouldn’t admit I was in on this if I was, nor would I expect any of TBL’s esteemed contributors, Frumley, Jamil, Chlamydia et al, to let slip such a thing.
On the other hand, IF I DID have knowledge of such a group (see Groucho’s comment about any group that would have him as a member) I would express bemusement at Judicial Watch’s amazing ability to become a contemptible ‘conservative’ group during Democratic administrations and a lionized ‘public interest’ or ‘gadfly’ group when the GOP holds the WH. What oh whatever could be the deciding factor?

  9. No, because we don’t allow ignorant young punks like Ezra Klein and Matt Yglesias to open their traps in meetings or post to the list. We have STANDARDS, by God!

  10. Maybe someone can help me out here – I just re-read the Corn piece and I have some questions:

    1. When did reporters from Breitbart and The Daily Caller become journalists in the eyes of the left? Did I miss the memo?

    2. To Corn, citizens meeting with each other to further a cause is the same as citizens colluding with the DOJ to further a cause with the aid of the federal government. Is that right?

    3. Corn says: “Critics have contended
that Thomas’ work as a lobbyist opposing Obamacare posed a conflict of
interest for her husband, who would rule on the constitutionality of the
health care reform initiative.” Does that mean that liberals believe a woman loses her First Amendment rights if she gets married? Does that include the right to abortion? Does she have to vote the same way, and attend the same church”

  11. Look, maybe some of you weren’t there at the sooper sekrit klandestine meeting when we all agreed that the only appropriate response to anything from Mother Jones was to point and laugh.

But surely you got the memo?

Alright, so who lost their decoder ring this time? You know those things aren’t cheap, what being made from the fresh bones of endangered species and all that…

  12. The first rule of Groundswell is to refuse checks or Federal Reserve Notes.

    Specie only, please.

  13. There is a fine line between clever and stupid.

    Disregard last transmission.

There is no line between David Corn and stupid.

    Lather, rinse, repeat.

    Break.
