Kaitlyn Hunt appears at Tuesday hearing.
UPDATE 3:10 p.m. ET: Elliot Jones reports at WPTV-TV:
Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg revoked bond for Kaitlyn Hunt, and she’ll remain jailed until a trial, that’s so far unscheduled.
The judge also added a new charge to her court record — transmitting material harmful to a minor by electronic equipment, a third-degree felony.
“The evidence is overwhelming,” Pegg said in ordering Hunt held in jail without bail.
A tearful Kaitlyn Hunt, in a bright orange jail jumpsuit and shackles, periodically glanced at her father in the Indian River County courtroom, as Sheriff’s Detective Jeremy Sheppard testified about new evidence in her teen sex case having to do with being in contact with the victim via electronic equipment.
UPDATE 2:05 p.m. ET: Bond was revoked after Judge Robert Pegg described evidence of Kaitlyn Hunt’s violation of her pretrial release as “overwhelming.” An arraignment date was set for the new charges of transmitting “material harmful to minors,” and Hunt was escorted out of the courtroom and back to the Indian River County Jail.
UPDATE 1:50 p.m. ET: Kaitlyn Hunt was handcuffed and shackled and wearing an orange jail uniform when she appeared in court today, facing new felony charges of violating her bond and sending illegal graphic sex materials to her underage girlfriend.
Detective Jeremy Shepherd testified about the explicit photos and video Hunt sent to the minor, who is now 15. He said he was contacted on Aug. 6 after the younger girl’s father found an iPod that Hunt had given the victim in March. This was used to transmit more than 20,000 text messages, photos and video. Detective Shepherd said that while the explicit video that shows Hunt masturbating only shows the defendant from the waist down, he was able to identify her from her pierced bellybutton and tattoos.
Detective Jeremy Shepherd testifies at Tuesday’s hearing.
Judge Robert Pegg listens to testimony in Tuesday’s hearing.
UPDATE 12:55 p.m. ET: According to the court docket, prosecutors have filed a new felony charge of “Transmission of material harmful to minors to a minor by electronic device or equipment” (847.0138).
Kaitlyn Hunt has been reminded why they call it ‘jailbait’
Today is the bond revocation hearing in Vero Beach:
Accused Florida sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt returned to jail Monday night prior to a hearing today in which prosecutors will argue that her bond should be revoked and that the 19-year-old former cheerleader should be kept in custody until her trial on felony charges of having sex with a 14-year-old girl.
Hunt, whose case has attracted nationwide media attention, voluntarily turned herself in at the Indian River County Jail about 9 p.m. Monday night. She had been out on $5,000 bond since her February arrest, but last week prosecutors filed a stunning document alleging that Hunt had repeatedly violated the court-ordered terms of her pretrial release by contacting the victim in the case, who is now 15.
Ron Barnett of Barnett Bail Bonds in Vero Beach told the Palm Beach Post that it was Hunt’s decision to return to jail pending today’s 1 p.m. hearing before Circuit Court Judge Robert Pegg. . . .
Please read the whole thing at ViralRead. I’ll be updating later with news of today’s hearing, which should be interesting.
What is also interesting — and thanks to Jeanette Runyon for all her work in following this — is how Kaitlyn Hunt’s supporters, in order to argue for their lesbian heroine’s victimhood, find themselves obliged to demonize the parents of the younger girl:

@NASCARNAC @rsmccain more #FreeKate demoniztion of the victim and her family pic.twitter.com/bKR1fzc44g

In this, her supporters echo the arguments originally made in a May 17 Facebook post by Kaitlyn’s mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, who blamed the younger girl’s parents: “They are trying to send an innocent young girl to prison because they are full of hate and bigotry.”
Parents who are trying to raise their daughter right, and who expect Florida to enforce its own law — which sets age of consent at 16 — are being scapegoated by weirdos who want to make gay rights an argument to declare “open season” on 14-year-olds.

Hey Kelley, you fat douchebag, you’re the one sending Katie to jail by raising the amoral little nitwit the way you did and now trying to justify her bad behavior.
That word, “innocent.” It doesn’t mean what Kelley Hunt Smith thinks it means. Specifically, “innocent young girls” do not own dildoes, much less use them on 14 year old classmates. The #FreeKate’rs get more ridiculous every day.

Aside from the obvious angles, this story points out how one needs to reflect quite a bit before jumping on any bandwagon. I wonder how many of these supporters believe subconsiously that they’ve been hoodwinked, but are too emotionally invested in the narrative to admit it. In fairness, some of the earlier supporters have done that, but the fact that so many remain is rather astounding, given the demonstrable facts. Alternatively, the case is an object lesson about how easily the unthinking populace could be led. It could be anything. Pick the right “story” and these people are screaming “Crucify Him” or “Kill the Jews.” Scary really.
Prosecutors “demonized” her the same way I “demonized” John Wayne Gacy, another homosexual, when he committed outrageous crimes.

A lot of her initial supporters have abandoned her, and what’s left is a small group consisting of mostly true believers at this point, IMO. When you’ve lost even the Daily Kos from your leftist Call to Outrage, it doesn’t leave much room for the sane or self-reflective.

Yeah, but there does seem to be a new supply, the more play this thing gets. There was a minor comment tiff about it on a conservative leaning blog the other night. Many, many people cannot or will not get past the “all kids do it; what’s the big deal?” narrative, and proceed accordingly.
There is so much propaganda in this case from Kate Hunt supporters, it’s hard to know where to begin, but I’ll give it a shot.
1. “Kate is just a child.” No, she’s not. She is a legal adult. If you want to argue that 18 year-olds should not legally be allowed to enter into contracts or vote, have at it, but for now, they are legal adults.
2. “They were peers.” What high school did you go to and on what planet? A peer is defined as someone of the same legal status. Any honest person knows that 14 and 18 year-olds do not have the same legal status (see point 1), and in high school, they do not have the same social status.
3. “They are in LUV.” Says who? Kate and her supporters? And LUV is not an excuse for committing crimes. By the way, Kate was so passionately in love with a 14 year old that she has been dating someone else. Go figure. Did “Romeo” do that?
4. “The victim’s parents are hateful bigots, homophobes, etc.” Says who? Kate’s defenders? Boy, would I LOVE to be the plaintiff’s attorney on this one when this is over. I would go after every single person who defamed the parents. Just because you do not want your 14 year old child to have sex does not make you someone who hates gays.
5. “Kate is a lesbian.” I’m sorry, but that one has me rolling in the aisles. Says WHO? Her own mother has stated that before this incident, Kate had only dated guys. We can speculate about the psychological underpinnings as to why she appears to have made the switch, but I will leave that for another comment. The point is, a lot of people have willingly suspended their discretion because they want this whole thing to be some grand love story. Others are willfully using it to further their own agendas.
6. “The victim is a lesbian.” Again, says who? There is no testimony on the record for that assumption, no affirmation from her parents, the child, or their attorney. 14 year old’s can’t even figure out nail polish colors, and people expect this one to have the maturity to know her own sexuality, but excuse Kate’s behavior because “she’s just a kid?”
7. Let’s say, for argument’s sake, that the child “consented.” Do you know why this argument is legally dead in the water, let alone morally? Because children, under the law, do not have the capacity to consent, meaning they do not fully understand the consequences of their own actions. That is why they cannot vote. That is why they cannot sign binding contracts. And that is why parents are entitled to make choices about these activities for them, including sex. Put another way: a lot of college guys are being kicked out of school and prosecuted because they had sex with a woman when both of them were drunk. Afterwards, women are successfully arguing that they lacked the capacity to consent because they were drunk. That is analogous to this situation.

Glad you brought this up. A few of these supporters come across as deranged. They have defamed people as well as doxed them. I am not prone to hyperbole or fear mongering, but people like Jeanette who have been at the forefront of this, exposing flat out lies, should take precautions for their safety. This is not going to be pretty.
I noticed that Kaitlyn’s parents said that sexual experimentation at 14 is “healthy and normal.” Not sure what universe they are living in, but it’s not mine.
As to Number 5, Chris Christie just signed legislation in NJ that implies sexual preference is chisled in granite and may not be tampered with. You mean, Kate just now “found” herself? / sarc
OT, but how these gay rights people reconcile the “born that way” position with the “its a social construct” position foisted upon us by the omnipotent Patriarchy is beyond my comprehension. To have the State decide I as a parent may not seek counseling for a screwed up kid would be cause for me to sell everything and move to a state that protects parental rights.

Re: the more than 20,000 text messages. Folks, that is an average of about 133 messages PER DAY. Seriously, who does that? If that were a guy doing it, there’d be a Lifetime TV movie about the “Boy Next Door Who Was Stalking My Daughter.”

On a side note, her crocodile tears are revolting. The fake quivering lip adds a nice touch though.
It takes a lot of work and dedication to get a crime victim to recant. / sarc

Thanks for this! When Kate’s attorney stands up again, someone ought to grab a photo of the leg shackles.
IANAL, but if the mom keeps publicly claiming she has knowledge of statutory rapes occurring on a regular basis, but has refused to report those crimes to the police, doesn’t that open her up to aiding/abetting, accessory, or some other criminal charge?
IANAL (but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once…) but this just seems… weak:
“Transmission of material harmful to minors to a minor by electronic device or equipment” (847.0138).
Is that the best charge they can come up with for sending porn to a minor? Sheesh.
Amazing how NJ can specifically regulate the medical profession to the disparagement of a patient’s private right to seek a treatment they may otherwise desire.
Yet declaring elective abortion a non medically approved procedure would be an abomination.
Off to jail with her. Took the judge about 10 seconds to make the ruling.
The new photo taken today shows the expression a young adult gets when s/he realizes for the first time, “I’m not bullet-proof.” Most of us have that moment, whether it comes from our own stupidity like Kate or from some additional responsibilty we assume like getting a job and supporting ourselves or having children. What I see in that face is someone who now knows that all the affirmation she’s received since the beginning of this saga is nothing but a lie. There is a real world out there and it can be very unforgiving at times. One hopes she learns that lesson.
I thought the detective was a good witness and the judge made the right calls on the objections, some in favor of Kate Hunt, and some in favor of the prosecution.
Logical consistancy has never been one of the Left’s strengths.
