Where’s Joe McCarthy when we really need him?
Protests against General David Petraeus Monday by CUNY students were organized by an ad hoc committee that includes several Communist groups.
A leaflet for the protests, which refers to Petraeus as a “war criminal” and “mass murderer,” says that the events were organized by the Ad Hoc Committee Against the Militarization of CUNY and were endorsed by the Internationalist Group, Workers Power-US, and IGNITE.
These groups are explicitly Communist in nature. Workers Power states that it is a “revolutionary, communist organization . . . in the tradition of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Trotsky.” The Internationalist Group uses the hammer and sickle alongside its articles. IGNITE is a self-described “communist youth league.” . . .
Erick Moreno, a senior at Queens College and a member of Students Without Borders, a group that endorsed the protest, confirmed that the leaflet came from the committee, which he said serves as a “united front of student, faculty, and community organizations that are taking on the task of promoting this campaign to oust General Petraeus from CUNY as well as ROTC and military contractors from the CUNY system.” . . .
(Via College Insurrection.) A cruelly ironic question: How is it that the United States “won” the Cold War, yet anti-American Marxism is now the default doctrine of our nation’s colleges and universities?

Marxism grows wherever planted.
Petraeus can suit for breach of contract, and CUNY can drive up student tuition to pay for the lawsuit. The proles among the students either go deeper into debt, or drop out as necessary martyrs for the cause.
The monied, as always, can afford to be Marxist on Daddy’s Money. They will always afford to have others pay the price.
Marxism doesn’t grows. it is imposed. Marxism is incompatible with any concept of life and freedom. It can only exist in an oppressive environment. Marxism’s “growth” is an illusion.

Publicity stunts by a handful of loony lefties doesn’t reflect what the average CUNY student (or Professor) thinks.
These fools agitating for Communism have never lived with it’s boot on their throat.

Why aren’t they chasing Obama around and calling him a war criminal?
Clearly an award winner!
CUNY is a public institution. Which if I were a New York taxpayer would be especially galling.
They actually might start doing so if he puts boots on the ground in Syria.
What’s the cause of action – does the contract say no protests? The difference between our society and the one the protesters would impose is that we allow dissent.
That’s why they’ll be the first ones eliminated if the Communists come to power.

Stalin, OTOH, didn’t even ask the question. He just sent them to the wall, or the rope. I warn the leftards I encounter on comment threads where they are headed. They universally poo poo the idea. Many Bolsheviks had the same attitude until they saw the pistol come out of the Chekist’s holster.

Funny, Stalinists throwing around the “War Criminal” accusation.
And by “funny” I mean nauseating. In a well ordered society, it would not only be legal to shoot Commies and Nazis on sight, but it would be considered a responsible citizen’s civic duty. I mean, who would complain if I killed disease carrying vermin?
Aside from PETA, that is?
Sure. But if the average CUNY student or Professor lets these people speak for them then I’m tarring everyone with that same brush.
The administration of Middlebury College is taking steps to punish the 9/11 memorial desecrators, what’s CUNY doing about these thugs who speak on its behalf? Nothing? Okay then, they own it.
Otherwise smart people like totalitarianism because they foolishly believe they will be in charge (q.v. Thomas Friedman). They apparently think that Stalin was the smartest guy in the USSR, or Hitler in Germany, or Pol Pot in Cambodia.
It never occurs to them that the people who rise to the top in a totalitarian state are the most ruthless. They’ll be herded to the wall while they’re arguing with each other over how many commissars each collective should have and whether grain collections should be quarterly or monthly.
Q: How many Marxists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: None. The lightbulb contains the seeds of its own revolution.
After the 60s, the lefties in the US moved into education. Conservatives moves into the armed forces. That is why we have smart bombs and illiterate graduates.
Workplace environment. Employees are permitted to work without harassment.
Doubt it. The juiceboxers will blame Bush, and kiddies at CUNY will nod and throw their right arms out in salute to Obama.
Indeed. Silence implies assent.
[…] Isn’t it ironic that Petraeus dedicated most of his life to preserving the right of these little ingrates to protest? Stacy McCain pointed out another irony: […]
Or didn’t see it coming, the shot to the back of the head while walking down a hallway was a favorite (as was sending a bill to the family for the cost of the bullet).
No it does not. Petreus can handle a few loony left demonstrators, and it’s not the job of other students and professors to silence dissent.
I’d be surprised if you could find a court that would entertain such a cramped interpretation of the First Amendment.
I’m not going to hold my breath.
Where did I say that they had to be silenced? Silly leftist, thinking that all speech that you disagree with needs to be silenced. No, there are plenty of other ways, the most straightforward being for the rest of the university to speak out and say “They Do Not Speak For All Of Us”.
Have you been awake for the past 20 years? There have been successful suits for people in another cubicle wearing perfume and the employer got it in the neck … any (real or perceived) ‘impairment’ of the workplace is grounds for a suit …
Why give the loony left more attention than they deserve? Best just to ignore them.
And what’s with the defeatist attitude towards communism, a discredited and dying philosophy, in this thread? Have people taken a time machine back to 1979?

I’m an attorney and I’m unaware of any precedent that would support such an action in a public university setting under the circumstances described. But maybe you know something I don’t.
Give Petraeus some credit. He’s a big boy and can handle protesters and dissent.
Then your lack of knowledge of current events as well as recent tort ruling would preclude me from ever retaining your legal services.
OK. Show me the precedent. Where has a public university professor successfully sued the university for breach of contract (which incidentally is not normally a tort) because he had protesters?
Otherwise I’ll just assume you’re an ignorant blowhard.
You completely missed the entire point of the main article. Communism is hardly “discredited and dying” in the major universities, it’s the default philosophy there.
Cite where I said a public university professor successfully sued the university for breach of contract . Re-read my comments and do so slowly this time to comprehend the simple English. I was responding about workplace environment and successful suits regarding same.
Admit you reacted badly to being questioned at all, you pinhead and poor excuse for a sentient being.
Do you have a source for this disturbing information, or do you just assert that’s the case? Yes, the left dominates the universities, but even the left has largely abandoned communism.
Shorter answer: you can’t provide any precedent and are just lashing out. Good night.
