Obama Makes Token Gesture, Because He’s Losing the Shutdown P.R. War

He’s trying to look reasonable:

President Barack Obama invited congressional leaders from both parties to the White House on Wednesday to discuss the partial government shutdown and looming debt-limit crisis, a White House official said.

There has been a tremendous backfire from Tuesday’s attempt — ordered by Obama administration officials for propaganda purposes — to block veterans from visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington. If you’ve been to that Memorial (which I visited with my family last summer), you know it’s an open-air site. No staff is required to make it possible for visitors to see the Memorial, and it took more manpower to put barricades around it than it would have to leave it open, from which anyone with common sense can see that the attempt to “close” the Memorial was purely as a publicity stunt.

Democrats are publicly explaining their shutdown strategy in terms of political “leverage.” While the mainstream media keep parroting the Democrats’ message (the partisanship at CNN these days is as shamelessly one-sided as MSNBC), ultimately the Big Lie will fail.

  1. His strategy is the same as the administration stated during the sequester: Make it hurt. Thus, he will order the shut down of the most trivial things to punish the American people for having the audacity to refuse to bow down to his brilliance and vision of the country. The fact of the matter is, the longer this goes and the longer Americans see that their lives are not affected, the worse it gets for Obama, Reid and Pelosi.

  3. He doesn’t own any of those things he shut down. You and I, Mr. and Ms. Taxpayer, do. I’m still collecting all my office’s Obamacare notices we received Monday and keeping them in case we run out of TP.

  4. But it does affect his leverage going into the debt ceiling debate. Let that drag on, and let some flattened jobs numbers come out from under the #ObamaCare steamroller, and the beginnings of collapse loom.

  5. Not one peep out of “get off my lawn” McCain supporting the vets? I guess he’s too busy supporting Obama and the Democrats/RINOS.

  8. The meeting is a photo op. Before noon, obama said that no negotiations would occur. He is trying to shift the narrative.

  9. We certainly have not seen any outcry from him regarding this blatant abuse of WWII vets. Since the Honor Flight visits are coordinated well in advance, it is blatantly obvious that the ‘closing’ of THEIR Monument was political grandstanding at its ‘finest’.

  10. McCain has forfeited whatever deference to which he was entitled by virtue of his status as a veteran and POW by virtue of his traitorous embrace of statism.

  11. That is what SHOULD happen but with the constant finger pointing and blaming that the dems do (ably assisted by the compliant media) it probably won’t. They will continue to blame the intransigent republicans and there are enough gullible folks out there who will buy it.

  12. Agreed, this is nothing more than stagecraft. Fodder for the knee pad media to use in order to make him appear useful.

  15. The Greatest Generation handled Germany. They took care of Japan. A bunch of ‘School of Government’ types never stood a chance.

    Maybe they should teach Republicans how to grow a spine, before the last of them pass on.
