Obama Makes Token Gesture, Because He’s Losing the Shutdown P.R. War

He’s trying to look reasonable:

President Barack Obama invited congressional leaders from both parties to the White House on Wednesday to discuss the partial government shutdown and looming debt-limit crisis, a White House official said.

There has been a tremendous backfire from Tuesday’s attempt — ordered by Obama administration officials for propaganda purposes — to block veterans from visiting the World War II Memorial in Washington. If you’ve been to that Memorial (which I visited with my family last summer), you know it’s an open-air site. No staff is required to make it possible for visitors to see the Memorial, and it took more manpower to put barricades around it than it would have to leave it open, from which anyone with common sense can see that the attempt to “close” the Memorial was purely as a publicity stunt.

Democrats are publicly explaining their shutdown strategy in terms of political “leverage.” While the mainstream media keep parroting the Democrats’ message (the partisanship at CNN these days is as shamelessly one-sided as MSNBC), ultimately the Big Lie will fail.

  1. It’s an old tactic, known as the Fireman First Principle of government. Make the peons suffer as much as you can, for them not giving the public class everything they desire.

  3. They crawled through the surf, sand and gunfire of Normandy. They faced blizzards and panzers in the Ardennes. They walked forward through the blood-soaked black sand and snipers of Iwo Jima, and flew unchecked through the heaviest air defenses in history over Schweinfurt and Berlin. They fought blind. flaming fleet actions in the Solomon Islands and Leyte Gulf.

    Yellow police tape was going to stop them? Are you fucking kidding me?!

  6. (John) McCain deserves respect and deference due to his service, his experience, and his injuries suffered as a result.

    But that doesn’t mean anything _else_ he does automatically is good.

    One “awshit” dismisses every prior “attaboy!” as a former boss once said.

  7. Straight out of Germany circa 1935. Refuse medications and treatment to the ‘worthless’ members of society, let them die (or a bit later, become ‘patients’ of Dr. Mengele) …

  8. McCain has tried to trade on his vet status to sanctify everything else he does. As a result, he’s forfeited any respect he would normally get for those things.
