“Equal rights” sounds so wonderful. Who can be against equality?

Yet as Richard Weaver warned us long ago, Ideas Have Consequences, and the sledgehammer logic of “equal rights” brutally dismantles every common-sense objection. Even the most obvious facts — e.g., boys and girls are different — must therefore be suppressed to conform with The Equality Principle. So . . .

Boys who think they are girls have a “right” to use the girl’s restroom (wait for it) in first grade:

In Colorado, transgender people are allowed by law to access public or workplace restrooms designated for the gender that matches their identity. That was affirmed in June when the Colorado Civil Rights Division ruled that a 6-year-old transgender girl, who was born male, could use the facilities for girls in her Fountain school.

School board member Kathy Svenson objected to this policy and is now being demonized as a hater for her objections.

In October, Kathy Shaidle called attention to this quote from a Think Progress writer: “The reality of transgender people is also a great natural and moral truth.” In the secular gospel of political correctness, prejudice and discrimination are the only sins. This is an idea whose consequences are generally underestimated, although the recent madness at a cathedral in Argentina is a good clue of what lies ahead.

“Not that there’s anything wrong with that.”

  1. There’s a very old poem that I’ve mislaid and cannot locate on the net. The main point was, if you encounter a wall or a gate, it’s wisest to ponder why your predecessors built it instead of rashly climbing over it or demolishing it.

  2. Just looked it up, I’d forgotten that essay. Yes, the main idea is identical but what I saw was a bit of verse (and pretty well done as I recall) that I do not doubt was inspired by Chesterton. Thanks for the reminder!

“Don’t ever take a fence down until you know the reason it was put up.”

  3. As someone that actually IS transgender, I would really rather not live in a world where people were forced against their will to very uncomfortably go against their pretty understandable personal beliefs and have to– again, against their will due to left-wing government fiat– do things like have me use the women’s restroom.

To me it’s a matter of common sense and manners.

    /*frustrated sigh*

  4. The exact quote is:

“”In the matter of reforming things, as distinct from deforming them, there is one plain and simple principle; a principle which will probably be called a paradox. There exists in such a case a certain institution or law; let us say, for the sake of simplicity, a fence or gate erected across a road. The more modern type of reformer goes gaily up to it and says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” To which the more intelligent type of reformer will do well to answer: “If you don’t see the use of it, I certainly won’t let you clear it away. Go away and think. Then, when you can come back and tell me that you do see the use of it, I may allow you to destroy it.””

  5. There is Colorado’s policy, which is mad on its face for any of a number of reasons, and then there is the business of of contemplating a six year old as transgender. Know well, there are adults who are promoting this for their own twisted reasons. For anyone to say that a six year old has developed enough to be aware of the idea of transgender without input from adults is absurd.

  6. “Know well, there are adults who are promoting this for their own twisted reasons.”

    True. And to that end…

“It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend* one of these little ones.”

*Greek skandalizó: to set a snare, hence to offend, to cause to stumble, TO TRAP.

  7. Honestly, I think it’s absurd to think of a six year old as developed a solid idea on basically ANYTHING.

A boy could love Justin Bieber, think lime is the best flavor of Popsicle, think girls are icky, et cetera as well as whatever gender-y / sexual-y thing you can throw at him… and he’ll change his mind completely in a matter of months let alone years.

It’s such a bad decision what the government is doing.

  8. Whenever these “gay” or “transgender” children are paraded about, I wonder if these mere infants are also necessarily homosexuals and if the authorities have looked into the situation in the home…

  9. Once upon a time, “deviant,” “reprobate” and “pervert” were among the worst labels someone could earn. Now we’re to the point where there’s literally no words strong enough to adequately describe the indescribable (which kinda figures, I guess) depths to which people are sinking.

  10. I find it impossible to feel any sympathy for someone who advocates castrating children, which is the public position of this woman who Mr McCain believes should not be “demonized.”. Absolutely contemptible. I know of no person more worthy of being demonized than someone calling for physically mutilating children. Moreover, I am amazed that there are so many here who are also in favor of castrating children in the first grade. Pretty sick.

  11. True, and I understand perfectly, but ‘heterosexual’ and ‘Christian’ *may* be a redundancy. What I mean is, one can certainly be a heterosexual and NOT be a Christian – most are not – but one can NOT be a settled, habitual, practicing homosexual and, at the same time, be one with Christ, anymore than one can be a settled, practicing, habitual fornicator, adulterer, thief, liar or idolator who is one with Him. It simply is not possible (I suspect you know that already…I’m posting it for the benefit of someone else).

  12. Does a six year old child have the cognitive ability to reason that he or she should be other than what he or she was at birth? Or could it be the parents are somehow influencing the sibling’s choice?

  13. We have a very odd issue, here. A six year old is playing with all sorts of roles and identities; I’m not sure how it came about that people decided the child was “transgendered” so very young. Is that even appropriate?

I remember there were a couple boys when I was growing up who were very disappointed to learn that they would never be mommies. I don’t remember that they were considered “transgendered”, and I don’t remember that they grew up to be gay (I grew up in a smallish town, and I went through from K-12 with many of the same people). They may have, or have not.

What never happened was the tom-boy girls or the boys who wanted to wear dresses being allowed to use the other gender’s restrooms. It just didn’t happen.

How about we slow down, and not be so eager to force a 6 year old into a sexual identity?

  14. What?

No one (at all, except the people who’ve decided some 6 year old kid is not a boy) wants to do anything resembling “castration” to the child!

  15. Precisely.

For all we know, the young lad has just found a clever way to satisfy his curiosity with official approval. (They still frown on the “you show me yours & I’ll show you mine” game on the playgrounds, don’t they)?

  16. “How about we slow down, and not be so eager to force a 6 year old into a sexual identity?”

But that’s how sodomites reproduce. It’s also a convenient thumb-in-the-eye to all conservative squares. So for the left…win/win.

  17. When I was small we didn’t understand the significance of why Jennifer had a “innie” and Frank had an “outie.”

  18. I think you may be missing the point. The story is not about the government forcing transgenders to use the women’s restroom. It is about the government allowing it, leaving women no restroom to use that does not get invaded by men (even if it is only men who think they are women).

  19. @ Ms Deeley

Did you read the linked article? The woman that Mr. McCain believes should not be demonized is “brushing off criticism of her graphic public statements advocating castration for transgender boys.” Do you want someone on your school board who advocates castration for children in the first grade? I shall demonize such a person without a qualm in the world. You can defend her point of view all you want, but sensible people are not going to stand for it. If I lived in that school district, I’d be voting to recall her too; she should not even be allowed within a hundred yards of a school

  20. I wish I would have thought of this when I was in high school.
I would have gladly claimed that I had “gender issues” if I could be allowed to use the girl’s locker room for gym class.

Ohhhh, to see Cindy Thompson !!!!!!!!!

What ever Children’s services in that state should be notified immediately and get that boy/girl away from the parents.

  21. That same linked article contains the following:

That was affirmed in June when the Colorado Civil Rights Division ruled that a 6-year-old transgender girl, who was born male, could use the facilities for girls in her Fountain school.

That 6 year old has a penis. The author of the article seems to believe that a man can make himself a woman by merely wishing it were so. “The woman”, Kathy Svenson, believes that unless someone has actually made the change to their plumbing, they remain what they were born.

So yes, unless you actually have yourself castrated, you still have that penis, and so, like it or not, you are still a man. That means use the Mens room.

  22. The list of trans pathologies even surpasses that of their LGBTQWTF brethren. Mentally ill, mutilated, barren, suicidal, drug addicted, often into prostitution to fund their mutilation and drug requirements, STD’s galore.

This whole push to start ’em young will at least allow us to once again enjoy castrati.

  23. You beat me to it.

The left are attempting to control the language here, because this child was born with male genitalia, has XY chromosomes, and is a male, period. Even if he undergoes “gender reassignment surgery,” he will still be male, albeit one who has been mutilated.
