Elementary School Teacher’s Lesbian Affair Causes Texas Political Scandal

Corinne Saenz (left) and her lesbian girlfriend Ermicin Paredes (right).

In 2002, elementary school teacher Corrine Morris Rodriguez Saenz married attorney Jonathan Saenz. By 2010, the couple had three children, while Jonathan Saenz rose to political prominence:

Jonathan M. Saenz, Esq., is the President of Texas Values, a nonprofit group dedicated to preserving and advancing a culture of family values in the state of Texas.
Prior to leading Texas Values, Jonathan headed the Liberty Institute offices at the Texas Capitol in Austin where he served as Director of Legislative Affairs and Attorney for Liberty Institute. He frequently presents research, analysis, and testimony before the Texas Legislature, State Board of Education, and other government entities on various issues affecting faith, family, and freedom.
Jonathan believes in religious liberty, sanctity of human life, family values, and constitutional rights and has been involved in numerous court cases, including cases before the Texas Supreme Court and the United State Supreme Court.

When you’re doing the Lord’s work, it’s important to remember that Satan will be working full-time to do everything he can to destroy you, and in Texas, the state satanic headquarters is in Austin.

Corrine Saenz was teaching at Becker Elementary School in Austin where, according to court records, she met fellow teacher Ercimin Paredes, who became her lesbian lover. Corinne Saenz became “deeply involved in her relationship with Ms. Paredes as early as the fall of 2010,” according to a document filed by her husband. The Saenzes separated in July 2011. Corinne filed for divorce a month later, and her husband initially opposed the divorce. In February 2012, a court issued an order forbidding Corinne’s lesbian girlfriend from “from being in the presence of the [Saenz] children,” and also ordering Corinne to undergo psychiatric evaluation. Ultimately, Corinne’s demand for a divorce was granted, and joint custody was awarded, with no stipulation as to the children and Corinne’s partner.

For some reason, the liberal media is treating this story as a Republican sex scandal, although it strikes me that Jonathan Saenz is the injured party, and that it is his ex-wife who is inflicting emotional damage on their children: “Mommy doesn’t love Daddy anymore. Mommy’s a lesbian now. Don’t worry, kids. Daddy will pay for your psychiatrist and your anti-depressant prescriptions.”

  1. So, let’s look at this. If Mrs. Saenz was “born that way,” that means she lived a lie for many years and deceived all those around her, not the least of whom were her husband and children. Alternatively, if her “sexual identity” was somehow a patriarchy-driven social construct, she lived a lie and deceived all those around her for many years, not the least of whom were her husband and children. So of course, the conclusion we must draw is that those who espouse fidelity in relationships to one’s spouse and family are somehow at fault when a spouse chooses to have an affair and toss away all his/her obligations in order to be “self-actualized.” In other words, for the Left, the highest virtue is personal expedience and gratification without regard to collateral damage.

    C.S. Lewis wept.

  2. Note that the man is being slurred as an “anti-gay extremist”.

How extreme is this supposed extremist?

Saenz is a vocal opponent of marriage equality

Right. So he believes in the same thing that Obama professed to believe up till a couple of years ago, and that the vast majority of people in the world still believe – that marriage is between a man and a woman.

who has suggested same-sex marriage support could apply to polygamy or incest

And he’s correct to make that suggestion, for re-framing marriage as a “human right” that “people who love each other” should be free to engage in – and potraying opposition to changing the definition of marriage as “extremism” – lends itself to polygamous or even consanguineous marriages.

Polygamy has much wider acceptance and much greater historical legitimacy than gay marriage. Using the very same justifications that have been deployed in favour of gay marriage, what sort of a bigot could object to “marriage equality” for old-school Mormons, Muslims, and so on?

and may lead to the jailing of “thousands and thousands” of pastors.

People in the UK and Canada have already been dragged through the courts for refusing to celebrate gay marriage. People in the US have already been hounded out of their jobs for opposing gay marriage. It’s not a stretch to suggest that religious groups will be forced to accept gay weddings in their churches or else feel the boot of the law on their necks.

He has also championed gay conversion therapy.

Personally, I believe if a grown man decides he’s gay that’s his business. Equally, I’m aware that some men are deeply distressed by unwanted homosexual tendencies and seek therapy. I’m not a doctor or a therapist so I have no idea how effective this therapy might be, but why should we judge people negatively for seeking help?

  3. It’s pretty much “you must be a lesbian” whichever way you look at it as a woman. Having a rough patch in your marriage? You’re just trying to throw off the chains of patriarchal oppression that have been forced on you since you were a little girl that was “forced” to play with dolls. Met somebody who just “gets” you in ways your husband doesn’t? Well, duh, no man can ever understand the female experience so clearly you can have a more fulfilling life with this woman. Feel like you’ve given up your whole life to raising a family? You don’t have to be shackled down to that anymore!

It’s like no woman can have a moment where they are just going through a rough spot or having a bad day or having some momentary doubts without the Lesbian Propaganda Department flying into high gear and drumming into you that you must make a complete lifestyle change. Because apparently in the history of mankind not a single other person has had doubts about their abilities or wondered what things would have been like if they’d made a different decision.

  4. The “conversion therapy” thing is one of those little propaganda tricks whereby the Left takes something entirely ordinary and turns it into something controversial. Only if you believe that homosexuality is a sacred right (as opposed to a preference) is it offensive to believe that some people would wish to avoid it, and to seek counseling to understand and suppress their homosexual urges.

A few psychologists with their own particular ideas on this subject (“reparative therapy”) were made into demonized scapegoats by gay activists, an Alinsky tactic that served to silence all real scientific inquiry into the subject of how sexual preference is developed, and the extent to which one can direct or control one’s own sexual urges by the exercise of will.

Facts are the new hate, as I often say.

  5. I’m deeply uncomfortable myself with the path we’re treading regarding religious rights and homosexuality. Because whether people want to admit it or not, religions are being marginalized and being forced in the direction of celebrating homosexuality or else face the wrath of the gay mafia and their “straight ally” enforcers.

As for those seeking therapy, there are those with deeply disturbing feelings of depression and worthlessness and nobody celebrates their problems or tells them to just be themselves and not try to force their way of thinking into a path that isn’t natural for them. Of course, to do so would very clearly be highly irresponsible and result in a lot of very visible suicides and attempts, so nobody would advocate that except for the fringe and the overpopulation idiots who would see it as decreasing the surplus population. And scientologists, who have a bizarre aversion to therapists I’ll never understand. In short, nobody tells a depressed person who is seeking help for disturbing thoughts that they should just be who they are. But if you have homosexual thoughts you don’t want, you are a self-hating closeted homosexual who clearly is being oppressed by the cisheteronormative patriarchy and seeking help is wrong.

  6. People have known for a long time that the “born that way” argument is definitely not universal and may not be the majority. Sexual attraction and orientation is complicated, but from my observation a significant number of people are nurture not nature (I think that is especially true with lesbians). And quite a few are able to shift back and forth (look at DeBlasio’s wife). Leave the lesbian angle out and you have a spouse who broke her vows (did the husband contribute in some way, I do not know).

I do not see this as some Republican sex scandal. I see it as a family coming apart and I feel sympathy for the children especially.

  8. I am no fan of Andrew “Journey to the Center of Sarah Palin’s Uterus” Sullivan, but he has acknowledged this for a long time and it is completely obvious to anyone paying any attention. The mainstream media has of course lied shamelessly about it.

  9. What’s strange is how “the personal is political” only for misfits and deviants.

Suppose that I, a married man, should be tempted by a too-friendly redheaded cocktail waitress. Never would anyone say that this temptation represented an “identity crisis,” that somehow I was “oppressed” in my marriage to a brunette, because it denied me the right to act on my latent desire for redheads.

(This is a hypothetical, for the sake of argument, I must remind you.)

The personal problems of heterosexual men are never “political,” you see. Nobody has a theory or an ideology based on men’s discontents or grievances, nor are problems within the range of normal sexuality ever construed politically, except when those problems are viewed through a feminist lens.

This weird imbalance has prevailed for four decades, and most people don’t even find it unusual anymore.

  10. If James McGreevey had been embezzling public money to pay some woman he was having an affair with, he would just be another generic, venal, adulterous politician.
But because he was embezzling public money to pay some man he wanted to bugger, that supposedly made him into some tragic pitiable martyr.

  11. I once mentioned Meredith Baxter’s coming-out to a gay co-worker of mine and his one-word reaction was “bullshit!” He said the idea that one day she woke up and and suddenly realized she was a lesbian is pure horse hockey.

    “Deception” is the correct word.

  12. Beyond even the same sex angle, if your wife went for a red headed lumberjack who looked like Brawny guy, a lot of women would be saying “you go girl.”

(this is a hypothetical example of course)

  13. Don’t worry. One day McGreevey will realize his dream of becoming an Episcopal priest! He’ll make Bishop Robinson proud!

  14. Radical feminists are like a handyman who only has a hammer for a tool. To the radfems, every problem looks like the patriarchy, whereas to the 1-tool handyman, every problem looks like a nail.

  15. We assume the husband is the victim here (and he very well may be). But I just do not know. Usually if a spouse is looking for love in all the wrong places, there is a reason. My concern is less for him and more for the kids.

  16. “religions are being marginalized and being forced in the direction of celebrating homosexuality or else face the wrath of the gay mafia and their “straight ally” enforcers”

And this seems to have been the goal of the radical gay rights activists and their friends in the Left all along.

It’s not about tolerance or live and let live. It’s not even really about celebrating gay relationships. It’s about humiliating their enemy, the Christian Right.

  17. Good analogy. Anyone who objected to your hitherto unknown desire for red heads would, of course, be labelled a bigot and a hater.

  18. Here’s a great flaw in family law in most states. If the dad had engaged in an affair with another woman and had paraded her around the children, then he would be denied any custodial rights, either legal or physical, and would have visitation only, perhaps subject to strict limits. But if the mom carries on with another woman in front of the kids, then everyone becomes all nervous. This is a gross violation of equal protection of the laws. And there will be some case, in the not too distant future, in which the father will be a heterosexual adulterer and the mother will be a lesbian adulterer, and the Supreme Court will decide you cannot use a different standard for each parent. Mark my words.

  19. I’d say the theory of men’s discontent (if you were to ask a feminist) is that everything they want revolves around their penis, which is just another tool the patriarchy uses to consolidate power and advance the male agenda. Which is, as even I as a female know, complete bullshit.

Are there men who treat women like their own personal pumphouse? Of course. Does that mean all men are like that? Of course not. I can only speak for what I’ve seen with friends and family, but I’ve seen guys fall all over themselves to give a girl what she wants. Guys who know full well that they aren’t going to be “getting some” at the end of the night. I’ve watched how my dad treats all women with respect and how he has insisted that my brothers learn to do the same.

I’d say there has been an unfortunate upsurge in females who think chivalry only goes one way and that when they get married, their husband is going to do what she wants to do or he’s going to be spending a lot of time on the couch. He gives up everything and she gives up nothing. And sadly, there seems to have been an upsurge in men who think that’s normal. It all comes together in one big cluster that results in bitterness and anger on both sides leading to divorce and women thinking they’re lesbians while men take the financial fall.

  20. Not only that, but the motivation behind such lies are selfish, cruel and political. They are basically telling those who are suffering and wish to get out, “Tough.”

And yet these people like to point fingers at Christians and say how evil we are, even as we are the ones exercising compassion.

  21. I used to post on a large forum for moms of small kids. One day I noticed this woman posting there who I had seen all over political debate boards, a loud and obnoxious radical lesbian feminist. No kids, no plans to have kids, generally negative about domesticity. She’s posting on this mom board. Ooookay. After a while, she decides she’s going to get a sperm donor and have a kid. That fails and fizzles out. But she keeps posting there. Now she’s not just posting in the “TTC” section but everywhere. She’s racked up tens of thousands of posts. She gives advice to moms of newborns, pregnant moms, moms of teens…she has NO experience even as an aunt. It’s weird, but politics are taboo there and if you questioned it, the mods would slam you.

Then I notice she has a special affinity for SAHMs who are generally frazzled and whose husbands are less helpful or understanding or whose work keeps them away a lot. She offers them a lot of “support” and sympathy and gentle, subtle man-hate girl power type bromides. She gets particularly close to this one who has two kids and a bad case of the blahs…

BAM! Finally she hit pay dirt. Like *one month* later, this SAHM is moving 2000 miles to *move in* with this lesbian gal. And she’s taking her kids out there with her. Her husband is blindsided, upset, horrified. Of course his reactions are all spun as over the top and “emotionally abusive” by lesbian chick, who is now fully in control of things, clearly. Fellow moms on the forum who express shock, concern, or worry that this is going to be too sudden or traumatic for the kids are denounced as ‘phobes and put in mod time out. There arises a Greek chorus of cheerleaders repeating over and over again the only thing you’re allowed to say about this insanity: “brave, brave. So brave.”

A year later, lesbian and former SAHM are “married” and the dad has lost all custody but the token holiday visits. The lesbian is constantly posting “heartwarming art” by the kids showing “my family”–2 “moms” and the kids and Rover. No dad.

Yeah right. Those kids are freaking hostages. And no one can do a thing about it.

And this was just from a casual online “friendship.” It happens. It’s deliberate. This was one of the incidents that started forcing me to re-evaluate my then-liberal views.

  22. The left is big on wishing gay relatives on conservatives and republicans as “punishment,” or comeuppance of some sort, to “teach them a lesson.” I have no idea how that’s supposed to work. Like “oh zing, you got me, now that my wife left me for a woman, I see I was wrong to oppose same sex unions.” What.

I remember when Rick Warren’s son died the first thing out of a lot of lefty mouths was “he probably killed himself because he was gay.” As far as anyone knows, he wasn’t gay so that’s just such a weird sentiment on so many levels.

  23. “did the husband contribute in some way, I do not know”

You don’t know, but you’ve made the same insinuation twice now. I don’t know either, but I’m not going to go casting aspersions that sound suspiciously like the one’s that are sure to come from the feminist camp upon the guy.

  24. I wouldn’t wager on the Supremes doing anything of the kind… Is the concept of “adultery” even applicable to homosexual relationships ?

  25. You are reading way too much into that qualification. It typically takes two to make or break a marriage. But sometimes it is just one spouse who is the bad egg. I do not know enough about the dynamics of their relationship (which is why I qualified) but I am sympathetic to their children (who are the primary victims here). What I am suggesting is the mom should have put her kids interests ahead of her own personal gratification. And if Dad contributed to this, he should do the same.

  26. No, the facts are reperative therapy does not work, and does nothing but harm to those that undergo it. Exodus, one of the largest clinics specializing in it closed it’s doors and apologized for the harm it caused. Michelle, and Marcus Bachmann can grift all they want with their clinic(no question that he’s queer either) but fact remains, it’s a con. it’s like telling a straight person they can be talked out of their orientation through therapy.

  27. His tee shirt in that pic with the graphic “Votre publicité” and the arrow pointing to the blank placard covering his loins means “Your advertisement here”…

  28. Only homosexuals and other paraphiles have an “orientation”… And, yes, they can learn to change or control it!

  29. That’s awful. And I will flat-out admit that my personal feeling about it are very un-Christian (hey, I’m not Jesus, and therefore I’m not perfect): I hope there is a special place in Hell for people who pull that shit. My cousin had a friend that ended up doing essentially the same thing as that mom. I feel so sorry for the kids.

  30. Fellow moms on the forum who express shock, concern, or worry that this is going to be too sudden or traumatic for the kids are denounced as ‘phobes and put in mod time out.

As horrific as the underlying story is, the reaction to those who questioned the wisdom of the SAHM’s actions is, in some ways, even worse. As others have pointed out, it has become impossible to counsel anyone about the costs of infidelity, especially children, without subjecting oneself to all manner of epithets.

Also, imagine the reaction had the husband been the one to relocate 2000 miles with the kids to shack-up with a recent internet tootsie. The indignant hashtags would be multiplying like bunnies.

  31. Yeah it was just plain creepy in that regard. Because funny enough, there was a mirror image incident on the same forum about a year prior where the dad took off with his girlfriend and wanted to play house with the kid and cut out mom. Everyone supported mom as she and her lawyer systematically dismantled that dude, ultimately ending with him relinquishing custody to her in full and then signing away his parental rights to her new boyfriend/fiance.

Again, moments that got me thinking…I just can’t turn a blind eye to the plight of the kids in these scenarios.

  32. See here’s the difference between the adversary system and majoritarian politics. I actual cases and controversies, the court must consider the interests of the individual litigants, not their mere feelings. Generally, you can’t be shouted down by the mob. This case will come up, and it will be decided in a fashion the Lesbifems do not like. But it will starkly frame the issues in an incontrovertible manner.
