Rape Culture Update

Rolling Stone’s @SabrinaRErdely has been so busy keeping us informed about how wealthy fratboys at elite universities routinely gang-rape 18-year-old girls . . . Wait, no. Actually, she hasn’t tweeted a single word in the past 18 days. We are nevertheless sure she’s been plenty busy, which explains why she hasn’t reported these stories:

We apologize for errors in the minor details we had to correct in these stories, but the “rape epidemic” on America’s college campuses is so rampant that Sabrina Rubin Erdley can’t keep up with it all.

  1. Now, now, Mr. McCain, in fairness, we should acknowledge that a recent rape/murder probably happened to one UVA student. Hannah Graham.

Although we have arrested the likely perpetrator of that crime, and there is evidence that he targeted and stalked other female college students and may have killed before, the feminists do not seem particularly concerned about it.

Instead, the feminists are baying at the moon about a fraternity gang rape that did not even happen. And then they demand that we pretend this fictional rape happened anyway. I wonder why that is?

  2. I am aware of the previous post. I am not actually complaining that Mr. McCain overlooked something. My “reproach” to him was in jest. I made the comment to highlight how the feminists are mum about an actual rape, but up in arms about a fictional one.

  3. I think we’ll be waiting a while before they crack that case.

Meanwhile, they’re still working on finding the white American male conservatives who attacked Lara Logan in Egypt.

  4. Brilliant! You sick, blogging bastards better re-blog and re-tweet this one. It’s a full metal jacket beatdown.

(And I mean that in the most loving, caring, in-your-face way, of course. It’s what we bastards do.)

  5. I think that’s in the mission statement for twitter somewhere. “To provide a home for the full fledged, web-based wackadoos of the world.”

  6. Actually, if you think about it hard enough, the above mentioned crimes are in fact the fault of the hegemonic, white, nationalist, imperialist, privileged power structure which is the United States of America and has been since its founding. I’m sure Ms. Erdely is penning that essay as we speak.

  7. And let’s always remember, the fake and fabricated is always representative of a larger, more real reality, whereas the true is useless for learning anything about the world.

  8. ISTR that when they were both at Yale (or some similar overpriced SJW hatchery) Glass actually reprimanded Erdely for fabulism when he was editor and she was writing for the school paper. Hilarious, no?

  9. Damn those Asian youths! If only there were an identifiable ideology behind their reprehensible behavior, we might be able to deter them by criticizing it…

  10. Erdely personally knew the notorious fabulist Stephen Glass, of “Shattered Glass” fame, and shattered glass was all over that story in Rolling Stone. Also, part of Stephen’s MO was to ask leading questions that would make the story more interesting if the source agreed. I absolutely believe that Jackie and Sabrina are co-victimizers in a mutually truth-abusive relationship.

  11. Why has the lovely Mrs Erdely not worked on the four stories you mentioned? It’s obvious: the (alleged) perpetrators were all persons of color!

I had to check through the links, but the (alleged) perps in the first and third stories were Negroes African-Americans, the Boko Haram terrorists are all black — and Muslims! — and in the fourth story, the alleged perpetrator was from India, and thus (probably) brown. No white males were involved in committing these crimes, which means that they were not actually serious, and no social action is contemplated.

  12. Alleged terrorists. And the specifically non-Muslim endorsing Muslim fraternity involved was probably playing a prank and the girls were all in on it and right now everyone’s laughing and the dead with fake blood too.

  13. Trust me, Sabrina Rubin Erdely has already convinced herself that she, Jackie and Rolling Stone are the subject of a white conservative male lynch mob that hates women and digs rape.

  14. Too bad for her, she can’t write anything now without people examining it for factuality, and specifically looking for signs of the “erotic/aversive” mixed-type rape fantasy. Can she even write anything else? Perhaps she should just retire.

  15. Alas, I was being funny to myself, the joke being that it wouldn’t matter if I could identify the ideology of “Asian” “youths” since criticizing it would endanger my job.

  16. Just for a change of perspective but Boko Haram killed 32 Boys n Men! N kidnapped 185 women n children. Boys n Men are expendable to feminists, so they leave our gender out but prioritize females. Absolute tragedy for all.

  17. The sad thing is that I’m not so sure that Erdeley’s career as a professional journalist (snort!) is over. It’s not like she blew it on a mundane story; she was, after all, speaking Truth to Power, which is the highest form of journalism these days. OK, maybe she got a tiny detail or two wrong, for which she was persecuted by the horrible misogynist, Koch-funded rightwingers who control the media. But the basic story (that rape is epidemic on white college campuses) was TRUE. So, her journalistic creds are still as intact as Michael Mann’s reputation as a climate scientist.

At least, this is how I think the average lefty editor / publisher will see it.

  18. I could write a whole series of fictional rape stories, and could probably sell them to Penthouse, but maybe Rolling Stone would like first dibs. /sarc

  19. Well, she was speaking Lies to Power, but that’s almost as good, right? In fact, it will probably sell more magazines to liberals than the truth, on account of they can’t handle the truth.

  20. “You were a member of that fraternity, were you not, Mr. Freeman? And did your fraternity brothers drink to excess and have sexual relations with young women who might not have been in a position to defend themselves properly? And is it not a stretch to state that some of those women may have been forced to have sexual relations against their will? Mr. Freeman? Your Honor, please instruct the witness to answer my questions!”

  21. I have no idea what you mean by “Asian” and “youth”, but I know that this description could not possibly apply to Mus…ow!…let me go!…my nec….

  22. Leonardo DiCaprio says Anthropogenic Global Warming is real, so it must be, because he would know.

Now pass me a damn blanket and turn up the heat. I’m freezing…

  23. Um…HELLO!…it’s not their fault! They’ve been enslaved and abused by Christianist cisheteronormative white males since the beginning of time. So they’re not responsible for these things! Can’t you see how they’re hurting inside? Can’t you see that they’re not responsible because of the millenia of abuse heaped upon them by the Christianist cisheteronormative white males™? Why, even before the time of Christ, Christianist cisheteronormative white males were lording it over their ancestors! Hands up! Hands up! Hands up!

  24. Sam? Is that you? You said you’d call! Why didn’t you call? I mean, I thought we connected and had a serious thing going. You said you’d call me this afternoon, but now it’s evening and you haven’t called! Like, I’m starting to feel taken advantage of. This is totally not what I signed up for. I was talking to my homies, and they think I should go talk to the poe-lice about this. For real, I never would’ve gone home with you after those 12 shooters if I’d known you weren’t going to call.

  25. A really decent human would acknowledge how her “erotic/aversive” mixed-type rape fantasies colored her reporting, admit that it was a weakness that became a sin when it produced lies, and promise to do better. Too bad people like her social in-group make fun of such old-fashioned, quaint notions as repentance and forgiveness.

  26. Wrong, EBL. They could not have been separated at birth. They worked together at the U of PA student newspaper, where Glass as Editor retracted and apologized for running an Erdely story because – get this – she fabricated the whole thing.

We can’t even say for sure who learned from whom.

  27. Since she was already working on a screenplay to shop for a movie on the case before the article was even published, I think it is safe to say she is looking for other ways to practice her art.

    Fiction seems appropriate.

  28. Erdely had two previous stories withdrawn by two different publications, one a rape tale for RS. She has another rape story for RS that has come under serious doubt, but hasn’t been retracted – yet.

To suppose her innocent is a stretch. In fact, the published story was significantly different from the one Jackie told her friends on the night in question or the U a year later. Maybe she changed it, maybe Erdely needed to juice it up. There is no reason to believe one over the other.

Also, her RS Editor came out when the first questions began and claimed the mag had indeed contacted the two named accused and they were real people – when in fact they had not and the names were phony.

Erdely and RS are NOT victims, they are at the least active participants.
