The Tragedy of Lesbian Divorce

Whatever happened to old-fashioned lesbian family values?

Rosie O’Donnell and her wife, Michelle Rounds, have split, and O’Donnell will leave “The View” next week to concentrate on her family’s well-being, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
Sources close to O’Donnell told us that she and Rounds, her wife of three years, have been living apart for months, and that O’Donnell feels she must leave the ABC daytime show to focus on her five kids.
Rosie’s rep, Cindi Berger, confirmed the marital split, as well O’Donnell’s departure from “The View,” in a statement Friday night: “I can confirm that Rosie and her wife Michelle split in November. Rosie has teens and an infant at home that need her attention. This has been a very stressful situation. She is putting her personal health and family first. ABC has been wonderfully understanding and supportive of her personal decision to leave ‘The View.’ Next week will be her last.”
O’Donnell, 52, married her second wife Rounds in private in June 2012. In 2013, they adopted a baby girl, Dakota. She has four other older kids.

Notice that this is O’Donnell’s second lesbian wife. Her first marriage to longtime girlfriend Kelli Carpenter ended in 2007. Carpenter now has her own second wife, and the four O’Donnell-Carpenter children seem closer to Kelli than to Rosie. Nobody in the world of media is allowed to say a word about the unnatural weirdness of all this — two boys and three girls without fathers, one of them (Kelli’s youngest) conceived by artificial insemination — because equality!

This is the Feminist Dream Life™ of women free from the heteronormative oppression of male supremacy, and we are all required to believe that it’s a utopia of undimmed bliss. Nor are we permitted to point out that some women who once lived as lesbians are now happily married to men, because this contradicts everything we are supposed to “know,” about both (a) the alleged permanence of homosexual identity and (b) traditional marriage as patriarchal slavery for women.

Meanwhile, we learn that angry lesbians are not ratings gold:

The collapse of Rosie O’Donnell’s two-year marriage had nothing to do with her quitting the troubled daytime chat show, The View, show insiders have disclosed.
In fact, her sudden departure was prompted by rows with producers and other staff, who are said to be delighted she is leaving.
O’Donnell is being seen as the key reason for the show’s collapsing ratings, which had led to serious concerns over falling advertising revenue. . . .
ABC insiders now acknowledge it was a disastrous error to bring O’Donnell back to the show.
They say that far from her suggestion that her marriage had become troubled recently, it was already on the rocks when she was signed for The View.

Anyone who has observed Rosie O’Donnell over the years recognizes that she is the source of her own problems. Her “humor” (such as it is) emerges from a bitter and resentful heart. She hates happy people, envying them for experiencing a joy that she can never feel, and she refuses to accept that she is responsible for her own unhappiness.

In celebrating such unhappy people as role models for youth, the media elite have helped promote a Culture of Despair.

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools . . .”

  1. People who treat marriage as a personal indulgence they are entitled to rather than a responsibility they are assuming are now much for keeping vows.

  2. She actually seemed nice and pleasant and *funny* when she was in the closet. Other people come out of the closet without transforming into unfunny, bitter, people.

  3. The day will come – in fact, we’re already starting to see it – when the victim group at rock bottom of society is going to be practicing Christians who refuse to compromise their faith. Then what? They won’t be able to get/keep a job if they refuse to worship at the alter of deviancy, and not only will nobody care, but the rest of society will be happy to see them gone. It will make Jim Crow look moderate and tolerant.

  4. I’ve been making an argument related to this for years. Some people viewed same sex marriage as a threat to traditional marriage but the case is closer to marriage having already been devalued and “supporters” being entirely willing to give away what had already been made worthless. It seemed to me that gays wanting legal marriage came in at least two sorts… the ones who were dog in the manger over it, and those who had a real desire for that white picket fence stability. Why work so hard to get something that amounts to moving in together until you get tired of it?

So the white picket fencers and those despairing of the break down of marriage and harm to children might have found a common cause in actually strengthening marriage as a “til death do us part” “to have and to hold” sort of legal contract. Something that could be broken but only by proving cause, by one or the other having *broken* the contract, adultery or abandonment, etc., You don’t get to just decide you’re no longer finding your living arrangements fulfilling.

Something that is actually possible, if people start to think about it and start a fashion is more than one category of marriage or adding a separate contract to the standard government issue version. Like a pre-nup or (as my historical romances called it) “marriage settlements” or some such of a thing. Standard Government Issue is relatively worthless, if you can dissolve “til death do us part” with a no-fault declaration. So have a second set of contracts that spell out how and in what situations and with what consequences the marriage can be dissolved. Make it *explicit* to those getting married that if it doesn’t “work out” you’re stuck, so take this seriously. It’s not just an excuse for a big party and an expensive dress to “celebrate your love.”

If you want to celebrate your love… have a “celebrate your love” party with pretty dresses and catered food and invite your friends to *that*.

  5. Christianity was an illegal underground religion for its first 300 years.

It might very well be that that’s what it’s meant to be, and the situation it flourishes best in.

I’d love to see the weak-kneed, hip, progressive, “let’s be popular” Christians faced with the dilemma of having to officially choose between Christ and the state.

  6. My parents fought like Montagues and Capulets for their entire marriage. But I’m glad they stayed together to raise my brothers and me.

I see so many kids who live out of a suitcase wandering back and forth between mom’s house and dad’s crappy apartment.

My room and my yard were my sanctuary and my kingdom. Home was enormously important.

  7. Buying an old magazine and renaming it with all new content and editorial staff vs. starting a new one seems to me to be a distinction without a difference. You aren’t also disputing it was a disaster, are you?

I have no clue how much of the staff she replaced, nor did I do a content analysis of it. It was a woman’s magazine before and after. Publications change their titles and fire their editors routinely. IIRC, the publication was closed down after a few months and she went into litigation.

You never saw her show yet you are sure about what was on it? I suffered through some viewings and I maintain my observation is accurate.

I quit working night shifts in 1995 and did not have a television when I did. Why would I be watching her? I saw her on The View because one of the doctors we go to would have it on in the waiting room. (It’s not unusual for people to conflate events from different time periods. I had an exchange the other day with a man complaining about a series of policies he attributed to Jimmy Carter – policies which were in place 3 to 12 years before Carter took office).

I don’t know when she officially went public with her lesbianism,

I think it was around 2002. Camille Paglia, who has never liked her, was discussing it in her column for Salon before that date. She was already an established talk show host. She began moderating The View about four years later. Supposedly Donald Trump and Barbara Walters found her impossible and were pleased to see the back of her.

  8. Through what conduit does that operate? Ask Conrad Black what money and an important international business protected him from.

  9. FYI one can’t have a “lesbian divorce” because in reality two people of the same sex can’t have a marriage.

  10. I thought the sane thing now she is angry, nasty and has that superior air of I’m better than you about her.

  11. Years ago when my hubby and I tried to adopt it because evident that homosexuals were getting promoted to the head of the line and Christians were being sent to the end of the line.

  12. It can be worse than that, for instance a couple years in foster care before one parent or the other gets their act together enough to get the kids back.

  13. Indeed, but the pendulum may swing the other way. Faith and Salvation are the epitome of delayed gratification. Our current affluence teaches us that we needn’t delay anything but that can’t/won’t last indefinitely.

  14. But in fairness it is incorrect to blame her for the sagging ratings. The View had already been in free-fall; they brought her back hoping to stop the slide but it only accelerated.

It seems the market for listening to a gaggle of dessicated old crones prattle on about their leftist world views is just shrinking. So the show is like “skinny jeans” – just no more room for Rosie.

  15. As a veteran of the adoption wars, you are correct: most people want a baby, of their own race (if possible), or a young child. But, by the very nature of things, most of the children “available” will be older, since the reason they ARE available, by and large, is that Bio-Mommy and Bio-Daddy have had time to REALLY screw up the whole parenting thing.

    The stories we heard. Man.

Anyway, that’s the reason for the In Vitro, or the foreign adoptions, by and large. Easier to get a Baby, with few or no issues, vs. an older kid who may have dealt with abuse, and thus have behavioral issues…

    🙁

  16. It’s not just that. The Children’s Services folk are big on keeping race with race. Or, failing that, making sure that, should you adopt outside of your own race, you are down with raising the kid(s) as hyphenated american(s).

  17. I didn’t realise any of those traditional clauses were part of gay marriage vows—particularly the “until death do us part” part!

  18. Agree 100%. The true Church is always strengthened by persecution because the wheat is separated from the tares.

I know that someday times are likely to get tough for me and my family, but You know, It is what it is. I’m just a stranger in a strange land, anyway; this place is not my home.

  19. Let’s all refer to Rosie’s “wife” or “wives” in the future so as to lend as little credibility as possible to the farce of homosexual “marriage.”

We all know what marriage is and has been since Oog the Cro-Magnon dragged home his first mate, and and a liaison between people with matching X and/or Y chromosomes isn’t it. Might as well consider college roommates as married couples.

  20. If the vows are different, where’s the “equality” in the marriage ceremony? The officiant shouldn’t have a different set of vows depending whether the couple is hetero or gay standing in front of him/her.

  21. I’ve noticed gay feminists like to go on about Vagina Monologues an dress up like them and make constant dick jokes and generally talk about everything under the sun. However their dildos seem to be some sort of secret knowledge guarded like the master of a Shaolin kung-fu school guards his Eagle’s Claw/Iron Armor style of fighting.

I confess ever since I heard a joke about that and Rosie I always picture her dutifully sitting on a stool like a milk maid and washing her dildos in a bucket. What’s the deal with that stuff – do they keep them in spice racks or gun cabinets? How DO they wash them? Is that part of a stay-at-home lesbian mom’s “chores”? Does one dust a rack of dildos? How does one keep them from the kids or when doing the “chores”? Is this a secret “chore’?

When I was 17 my girl friend was asked to house-sit for a lesbian couple, one of whom was my boss at a job. They were totally cool people. So we had an entire weekend to be able to be together in private. My girlfriend found an enormous dildo in a drawer with a little white string attached to it so it could be worn around the hips. It was really huge. We laughed like crazy. Can’t get any more “performative” than that. So yeah, saying heterosexuality is fake has that crass tone of blatant stupidity about it one always hears about gender feminism, plus the fun knowledge the bonded plastic polymers used to make dildos is patriarchal man-tech, as is the entire industrial base one needs to manufacture such a thing.

  22. (Totally OT. Forgive me Wombat.)

Your comment reminded me that years ago, when I had a, family-friendly blog, I once did a post about skiing in the Zillertal and seeing a gaggle/herd/group of Polish nuns enjoying the slopes. In the post, I used the phrase “nuns strap on skis.)

Shortly thereafter, I noticed an increase in my hit count for a few days from about 20 per day to over 100. The hits came from Google searches for the phrase, “nuns with strap-ons.”

    Ay caramba!

  23. This is a pet peeve of mine: there are plenty of normal couples who are infertile for some reason, and then spend tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars to have a child which is biologically theirs, or at least one of theirs, when there are so very many already-born kids out there who need parents.

  24. A quibble: her homosexuality was sufficiently well known that people like Camille Paglia and Andrew Sullivan (who did not know her personally) were aware of it and wrote about it. She just had never issued any press release about it, and certain conventions still apply among celebrities who have not run afoul of the bien pensants.
