The Riot Ideology in Ferguson

Ginning up racial strife is bad for business:

Fusion, a Website that’s an, err fusion between Univision and ABC/Disney is shocked that Ferguson real estate prices are “Down nearly 50 percent since Michael Brown’s death.” There’s more than a hint of bias in that subhead, as the cause wasn’t Brown’s death after he slugged a convenience store clerk and attempted to steal a police officer’s gun, but the riots and looting that followed — which were another kind of media fusion, ginned up by via the minicams of CNN and fueled further by NBC anchorman Al Sharpton’s corrosive presence . . .

Read the whole thing by Ed Driscoll, who includes a quote by Manhattan Institute urban policy scholar Fred Siegel. Two years ago, when the itinerant race hustler Sharpton was inciting hatred in Sanford, Florida, I mentioned Siegel’s The Future Once Happened Here in connection with the Trayvon Martin case:

Siegel’s book is one of those timeless classics — like Christopher Lasch’s The Culture of Narcissism and Thomas Sowell’s The Vision of the Anointed — that I frequently recommend as guides to understanding important social phenomena more deeply.
The Future Once Happened Here recounts how liberal policy turned three once-great American cities — New York, D.C. and L.A. — into dangerous urban nightmares, and one of the things Siegel describes is the “riot ideology” whereby organized violence (or the threat thereof) is used to intimidate officials into doing the bidding of “community leaders.”

Fools can’t be bothered to learn a damned thing about history, however, so disgraced charlatans like Sharpton are always able to find a mob of fools who buy into their bankrupt ideology. These fools are always mystified by the result. The race hustlers get rich off their “social justice” scam, but when the media spotlight turns away and the protest carnival leaves town, the people left behind are in no better condition than they were before the protests began. In fact, as in Ferguson, communities suffer more harm from the riot ideology than they did from whatever “oppression” the race hustlers were supposedly protesting against.

Alas, some fools never learn, and so hate remains a lucrative industry from which vicious liars like Al Sharpton get rich.

UPDATE: When Jeffrey Williams was arrested and charged with shooting two cops in Ferguson, liberals tried to claim Williams was not one of the protesters. Yet now the suspect’s own family confirm he was: “After Michael Brown, he was out there protesting. . . . He had his shirt on. He had his signs up.” Williams, 20, has a criminal record, a pregnant girlfriend and “made money by placing bets on the basketball and football video games he played with others, relatives said.” Which is to say, he is an outstanding example of the Obama Age lifestyle.

  1. Doesn’t this lying liar owe a literal ton of money to the IRS, the FEC and other creditors? How can this criminal have credibility in anyone’s eyes? I’d say his followers are petty criminals spoiling for a fight.

I think it’s very questionable that he has paid anything toward these debts for the last, oh, 30 years. And yet, last year, this same IRS disputed my tax payments because they wanted to fine me $5, saying I didn’t have enough taken out of my biweekly paychecks. So the fact that he gets away with these things and is not in jail where he belongs means that the government approves of what he’s doing.

  2. “Fools can’t be bothered to learn a damned thing about history,…”

    ain’t that the truth!

Along the lines of history repeating itself Jack Cashill also had interesting observations on the Martin/Zimmerman case. He noticed parallels between the Sacco and Vanzetti trial in the 1920s and the attempted railroading of Zimmerman . Even if you have no interest in buying another book (and I’m currently drowning in unread books) his CSPAN BookTV interview is worth watching. First 10 min is on Youtube:

  3. Somebody (Sowell?) once said that race hustlers like Jesse Jackson love the term “social justice” because it means absolutely nothing. Make an argument, label it “social justice” and then dare anyone to disagree with you.

  4. Couldn’t happen to a nicer group of people. Got to love the blacks, they get upset and burn their own neighborhood down. Carry on men, job well done.

  5. The wrong reverend not-too-Sharpton has accomplished the feat of turning himself into a living, breathing cartoon character. Maybe an Acme brand safe or anvil will fall on his head the next time he’s leading a mob of dirtbags.

  6. It’s easy: look at who is in charge of the federal criminal justice system.

Of course, if Mitt Romney had won and appointed the Attorney General, Mr Sharpton still wouldn’t be in jail, because arresting him would be raaaaacist.

Question: if the Reverend Al Sharpton shot and killed a white Republican, on national television, would he be arrested?

  7. “social justice” is a term in the same category as “economic justice:” useful as a rallying point for the less intelligent, but having no real meaning beyond being a rallying point.

  8. At the beginning of the science fiction novel Dune, the 15 yr. old hero Paul Atreides is given a test to determine if he is fully human in a civilizational sense.

Let’s stipulate this is the crucial difference between cultures which have a thing like a Constitution, individual rights, free speech and those which don’t.

Let us also note the singular indifference intersectional radical feminists have towards the principles behind fair play and law. In fact when you bring these things up in debates, they almost always profess confusion as to what you’re even talking about. Simple comparisons such as a segregated high school prom and a segregated “safer-space” at a science fiction convention blinker them. They have no moral ethos which can address the two.

Let’s then take note of how often radical feminists single out their supposed masters and oppressors as Western, Christian, straight, white, men.

    Quod erat demonstrandum.

  9. A majority black suburb drops its own assets by half by hysterically claiming an event rarer than a lightning strike is oppressing them. Paranoia pays only the ringleaders. Next, the asset slash will be blamed on a white patriarchy. Further slashes occur. White people become ever more mysteriously racist by not having done a single thing the entire time.

  10. It’s built into reality. Sure, the elite make money, but do you really think the mentally ill women ranting on Twitter all day every day are benefitting from having their delusions supported? In what world will they ever have the chance to get well and live happy lives?

Every day those morons are on Tumblr ranting about cis males is a day not motorcycling around Bali or hiking the Inca Trail. People like Macotte, Valenti and Penny are the personification of a failed value system, not a successful one. Leeches need a host. I do not need radical feminists. According to them, I created every societal and technological luxury they enjoy. That’s because you have to give the good with the bad.

  11. You just don’t understand: as long as the Reverend Al Sharpton can help stir up destruction in black neighborhoods, the longer that blacks will remain poorer than average Americans, meaning that Affirmative Action can never end.

  12. This first fire that destroyed his tax records occurred in 92. It’s not approval or not just approval but rather a gift for extortion.

  13. “… his followers are petty criminals ..”
There’s a certain segment of the Reverend Sharpton’s people who would take offense to that and insist that they is gangstas.

Why do you keep trying holding his people down?

  14. Affirmative action is one of the single most detrimental elements of the welfare state. It makes the claim for the efficacy and morality of the fundamentally immoral.

  15. How could anyone who’d attended more than one or two protests believe somehow he was never captured on camera.

  16. Not to put too fine a point on it, but Schultz is a jackass. And for what you pay for a few of his crappy drinks, you can get some really good coffee beans from Kona and grind them yourself. Too bad everyone doesn’t do that.

  17. So you prefer to forego the pleasure of being involved in a small riot every time you need a cup of coffee.

  18. Williams, 20, has a criminal record, a pregnant girlfriend and “made money by placing bets on the basketball and football video games he played with others, relatives said.” Which is to say, he is an outstanding example of the Obama Age lifestyle.

He’s the very epitome of what black radio personality and vlogger Tommy Sotomayor calls a “Madden king,” in reference to the popular video game series. (I would be a “snow king,” in reference to the color of my skin. He’s… controversial.) Since he made money at it, I would love to see that title used in news reports — “Madden king Jeffrey Williams” — like it was his profession or something.

  19. Justice O’Connor wrote for the majority in Grutter v Bollinger that the Court expected that there would be no further need for Affirmative Action 25 years from that baneful decision. Well, almost half of that 25 years has already elapsed; raise your hand if you believe that almost half of the problems have been solved.

  20. The problems obviously haven’t been solved and in some cases have been exacerbated. This entirely fitting as the solution chosen was as equally immoral as the problem that it was purported to solve. Such get rich type quick fix schemes never produce the desired results because two wrongs never make a right. One example of the short shortsightedness of this policy is using affirmative action hiring by local, state, and federal governments to fast track minorities into the middle class.

  21. Will Al the Sharpton to pressure/blackmail Starbucks to open a store in one of the many readily available burned out and looted locations in Ferguson MO,?

  22. Well then I reckon that makes me one as well.
It’s a consolation to me that at least I’m in good company with “people like us”.

  23. Well then I reckon that makes me one as well.
It’s a consolation to me that at least I’m in good company with “people conservatives like us”.

(I went ahead and fixed that for myself)

  24. There is a segment of society who believe that the goal of affirmative action is equal results rather than equal opportunity.
Those who think that way will never ever be satisfied because the world doesn’t work that way, not for anybody of any race, ethnicity, etc.
Being just too ignorant to realize that, they will always live in disappointment.

  25. Will Al the Sharpton to pressure/blackmail Starbucks to open a store give him a franchise store in one of the many readily available burned out and looted locations in Ferguson MO,?

(Felt the obligation to fix that up since that’s how the Reverend do.)

  26. The means for achieving equality of results must always be immoral. Affirmative action is probably the most obvious of those actions that aren’t hidden.

  27. Aren’t we rapidly approaching the point where whites will be the minority? Then what? Think there’ll be affirmative action for whites? Hahahahaha – sometimes I crack myself up. Rather, we’ll reach a point where we’ll all have to abandon our former country (North Mexico, capital Hollister, CA) and become canucks. I don’t think I’ll like it there. I’m allergic to political correctness and all social and/or economic “justice” programs. (More to the point, I’m allergic to Marxism.)

  28. Wish they would, because everything Sharpton touches literally turns to poo. Practically right before your eyes. The complete trashing and decomposition of a Starbucks would make great time-lapse photography.

  29. Some moron was on Twitter was whining that Starbucks had appropriated their mermaid logo from Yoruba religion in Nigeria. I’ll open a franchise in Ferguson: “Black Coffee, Brown Sugar.”

If the Stones had released “Brown Sugar” today it’d be pulled in about 2 min. Unless they were rappers. Then it would get a Nobel Peace Prize for rainbow outreach.

  30. So people don’t want to live in a racist community where the police routinely gun down people for the crime of being black and the municipal authorities look on minorities as nothing but revenue sources?

Or alternately, they don’t want to live in a community where mobs can be created instantly to riot, burn and loot, destroying property and ruining businesses people worked years to build?

Yeah, sorry Ferguson, that’s a lose-lose situation you have there.

  31. In addition to irrefutable studies (and boy, how they’ve tried to refute them) blacks have an average IQ of 15 points below whites. Other studies have found blacks exhibit poor impulse control and an inability to relate their present actions to their future prospects. This is why blacks continually fall for race hustlers and burn their own neighborhoods to the ground. Name one country in Africa, not run by whites, that is a success or has kept pace with the modern changing world. I wish this wasn’t so, but facts and voluminous anecdotal evidence can’t be wished away.
