‘Mattress Girl’ Emma Sulkowicz Releases Crappy Porn Video With French Title

“Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol” is French for “This Is Not a Rape” and if recent Columbia University graduate Emma Sulkowicz intended this eight-minute video as “art,” it’s very bad art. Sulkowicz claimed she was raped by fellow student Paul Nungesser, who was cleared of wrongdoing in subsequent investigations by the university and by New York City police. Sulkowicz then made herself famous by carrying a mattress around campus as a senior art project to publicize her (disproven) accusation; in April, Nungesser filed a lawsuit against Columbia (see “Emma Sulkowicz Is a Vindictive, Dishonest and Crazy Slut — Allegedly”).

Natasha Vargas-Cooper at the feminist blog Jezebel writes:

Artnet has confirmed that Emma Sulkowicz . . . is behind the website “Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol.” The site hosts an artist’s statement from Sulkowicz, who graduated from Columbia in May of this year, and a video she filmed with director Ted Lawson several months ago over the university’s winter break.
The eight-minute video features Sulkowicz and a man, his face blurred, engaging in what appears to be consensual sex that turns violent. The unidentified man open-palm slaps Sulkowicz, chokes her, removes the condom, then continues to have very rough sex with Sulkowicz, who whimpers and protests from pain.

Is that actually Emma in the video? I didn’t watch it myself, so I can’t say whether the unattractive blue-haired woman in the video is her or not. Either way, the site at which she posted the video is full of craziness:

Trigger Warning: The following text contains allusions to rape. Everything that takes place in the following video is consensual but may resemble rape. It is not a reenactment but may seem like one. If at any point you are triggered or upset, please proceed with caution and/or exit this website. However, I do not mean to be prescriptive, for many people find pleasure in feeling upset.
Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol is not about one night in August, 2012. It’s about your decisions, starting now. It’s only a reenactment if you disregard my words. It’s about you, not him.
Do not watch this video if your motives would upset me, my desires are unclear to you, or my nuances are indecipherable.
You might be wondering why I’ve made myself this vulnerable. Look—I want to change the world, and that begins with you, seeing yourself. If you watch this video without my consent, then I hope you reflect on your reasons for objectifying me and participating in my rape, for, in that case, you were the one who couldn’t resist the urge to make Ceci N’est Pas Un Viol about what you wanted to make it about: rape.
Please, don’t participate in my rape. Watch kindly.

As if this wasn’t crazy enough, Sulkowicz then appends “a few questions to help you reflect,” which include these:

  • How well do you think you know me? Have we ever met?
  • Do you think I’m the perfect victim or the world’s worst victim?
  • Do you refuse to see me as either a human being or a victim? If so, why? Is it to deny me agency and thus further victimize me? If so, what do you think of the fact that you owe your ability to do so to me, since I’m the one who took a risk and made myself vulnerable in the first place?
  • Do you hate me? If so, how does it feel to hate me?

Comments at the site range from crude to hilarious. This is not an art project. This is what we call “a cry for help.” Feminism often functions as a substitute for therapy, but not an effective substitute. Crazy women who become involved with feminism just keep getting crazier.

  1. You know how I knew she’s a liar who has never been harmed in her life? She calls it “my rape”. Hers, personally. It’s an affectionate way to refer to something that those who have actually been through serious trauma will likely not do. It’s not *my* rape, but “it” or “what happened” or “the rape”, if you really have to call it by name, which you’d rather not. Survivors do not typically use terms of ownership for the things that are not their own actions, but someone else’s. Maybe I’m wrong about most survivors. Not being a psychiatrist I guess I haven’t seen that many. But since I am a survivor of, well, a *thing*, not my thing, but The Thing That Happened, I can speak from experience. This chick is loving the idea of rape. Her rape. Certainly not his.

  2. Sure, she’s crazy, but it only goes so far. I noticed that she put enough disclaimers in there to satisfy a legion of lawyers. Just because she’s a sick, sad, tormented exhibitionist doesn’t mean that she wants to be in court for libel.

  3. I wanna see video of her using her sex powers to blow up a rubber mattress and then cross the English Channel like feminist Charlotte Bronte did. Or she could use a man instead and float across on him. Whatever. It would be very exciting either way.

  4. “Do not watch this video if your motives would upset me, my desires are unclear to you, or my nuances are indecipherable.”

“If you watch this video without my consent, then I hope you reflect on your reasons for objectifying me and participating in my rape…”

If she is not trolling, then she is deeply, irredeemably stupid. Congratulations, Columbia, your second most famous graduate is publicly displaying her idiocy and your failure to impart any education. Of course, your most famous graduate is the guy who thinks the US has 57 states and the language spoken in Austria is Austrian. How about changing your name to Moronic University of Morons and Advanced Moronic Studies?

New school motto: Go away, ‘batin’

  5. If you watch this video without my consent, then I hope you reflect on your reasons for … participating in my rape

Consent or no consent, I’ve chosen not to watch the video because I think her co-star has been humiliated enough, having willingly gotten in bed (so to speak) with someone he already knew was psychotic.

Her accused only found out afterward.

  6. The poor girl was probably constantly bombarded by psycho-babble at home. My guess is that caused some of her problems. Adding another session with yet another shrink probably wouldn’t have helped.

Look at all the good Bruce Jenner got out of his sessions with shrinks.

Modern psychiatry is the problem in many cases.

  7. This dim-witted, disturbed young woman has probably done more to further the cause of abstinence than legions of ministers and priests.

You would have to be nuts to hook up on a college campus these days.

Unfortunately, colleges seem to focus on making students nuts.

  8. Her poor father.

On the other hand, a good bit of this is his fault. Assuming she doesn’t suffer from some mental dis… OK, let me try again. Assuming that she does suff… Sorry, one more try. Her father should have helped her to learn to cope with her disorder. He ought to have kept a closer watch on her activities. He should have stepped in when she started flirting with destructive behaviors and ideas. Above all, he should have taught her not to tell lies to hurt other people.

My guess is that, on the contrary, he taught her that she’s a special little snowflake who deserves whatever she wants, whenever she wants it, and anybody who doesn’t fall in with that idea is being mean to her and deserves retaliation.

Congrats, Mr. Sulkowitcz: you raised a monster who’s not only a danger to herself, but a plague on people who know her.

[EDIT] I am reminded of Heinlein’s Starship Troopers. In his fictional future, a kid who committed a moderately serious crime would be flogged… with his father on the post beside him getting the lash, too. I realize that a parent can’t control his child 24 / 7, especially when the child is into his teens, but part of a parent’s job is to teach his kids to behave. I’m guessing Sulkowicz missed that point in the job description.

  9. It’s Dr. Sulkowicz, and he’s sufficiently well-connected that his letters to the editor of The New York Times do get published now and again.

She also grew up in Manhattan, and not in the slum parts, I’ll wager. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis has a handy calculator which will tell you what the per capita personal income of a county is as compared to national means. Manhattan exceeds national means by a factor of 2.7, which is to say that the average resident of Manhattan has a personal income which is somewhere close to the 95th percentile of the country as a whole. She may not be in the 1%, but she’s about 10x as likely to be there as a randomly selected American. Her father’s clientele is supposedly drawn mostly from the ranks of corporation executives. I think I know what that means.

  10. If Columbia’s board had any sense, Sulkowicz antics would be a fine argument for closing the studio art program.

    http://arts.columbia.edu/visual-arts-full-time-faculty

The 11 faculty on this list consist of the cretin who supervised her ‘project’, the people who hired him, the people who remonstrated with the deans and provost to grant him tenure, people who’d do something equally inane, and (one suspects) a residuum of the sensible too few in number to justify maintaining the program.

  11. It no longer works on the website but according to twitter, it has already been uploaded to pornhub.

  12. “(F)or many people find pleasure in feeling upset.” She knows this from first hand experience.

  13. What’s next, the “reality” TV show?

May as well ca$h in like the other rich girls with no shame…..

  14. All I can say in that this crazy broad needs to spend less time making up rapes for attention and more time on the StairMaster.

  15. When even Jezebel calls her crazy it might be time to invest in repenting your sins since the end of times might be upon us.

  16. Aren’t porn stars supposed to at least be attractive? She needs to bag that face. And now that she’s put the mattress down 50 pounds will come to her frame really really fast.

  17. I have now read through her site several times. It reminds me of one of those “random post-modern paper” generators one finds on the web. It’s nonsensical. It’s incoherent. It is internally inconsistent. She attempts to camouflage her lack of serious thought and her paucity of intellect in radfem jargon which seems to have been cut and pasted from various fifth-rate Tumblr accounts.

Consider this: She creates a sex-tape, publishes it on the internet, publicizes it, then has the audacity to claim some sort of control over who watches, by claiming, “if you watch this without my consent . . . ” or with impure motives, one is “participating” in some nefarious act.

What act would that be? The one on the video which she created, filmed and published? The original story which has been debunked? An actual assault?

Sorry, dear. You philosophical and logical fallacies cannot be hidden simply be describing your lunacy as “nuance.”

  18. Thanks for the correction. As a rule, I believe that people who have earned a title are entitled (!) to have it used.

Even if I suspect that they are wankers responsible for foisting a disgusting harpy on the world.

  19. I agree with the Scientologists on that point.

I used to think Scientology was crazy, but compared to trannies and radfems, they’re positively wholesome.

  20. This entire movement is insane. Read this from the U of SF. This is how hate speech is mainstreamed and can drive an otherwise normal nation insane. Read the full list of books and videos.

    https://www.usfca.edu/library/white_privilege/

This happened at the U of Heidelberg in the early ’30s. I’m not talking about going full Godwin or anything like that. I’m talking about the fact Orwell warned that a nation can fall because of a thing not looking like what was expected. While guarding against the KKK and neo-Nazis, this has crept on us unawares. No one knows the damage it will do to America until it is rooted out, if ever.

  21. Could be her parents were absentees, spending long hours at the office (in order to avoid each other) and when not there, availing themselves of galas, parties and other Rich People entertainment. She might’ve spent a lot of time with nannies (multiple, because if her parents didn’t spend time raising her, then they’re a$$holes, and treated the “help” like sh1t, too).

Also, given her name, her father’s Jewish, and since Emma appears at least part Asian, then either her mother is Asian, or Emma was adopted. If adopted, she could’ve been the “trophy” kid, as in, “See what great liberals we are? We adopted an underprivilged kid from [some underprivilged place]”. Then she was put away on a shelf and ignored, see paragraph 1.

But I don’t know them, so I’m speculating.

  22. And no Barry White music, lava lamps or incense. What was this woman thinking of? It’s like she was making a sandwich, and I have no doubt it is an accurate reflection of her “love” life. I’m guessing she has the empty eyes of a shark.

  23. Don’t know about the nannies or being absentee parents, but it appears that her mother, Dr. Sandra S. Leong, is Asian.

  24. Cocoa Puffs called, and are amending the previous restraining order against her; minimum distance is now stipulated at 50 miles.

  25. The absurdity is plain.
I’m aware of no artist in the history of the human race who had the audacity to claim they could control how an audience interpreted their art.
Seriously, that’s taught on day one of art 101.
