You Want To Whine About Being Offended?
Here, Let Me Give You Something To Whine About

— by Wombat-socho

Apropos of Stacy’s post on the attempt to shove the Confederate flag down the memory hole, Michael Z. Williamson and his friends have some suggestions for a replacement flag guaranteed to offend just about everybody, but especially the members of the pro-slavery, pro-segregation Democratic party.

Also, some clever fellow has introduced a petition to strip former Senator and Klansman Robert Byrd’s name from everything.

If you want to actually buy a Confederate flag, if for no better reason than Amazon, Wal-Mart, Mitt Romney and other bien pensants think you shouldn’t have one, Cooter (Ben Jones) can fix you up. Or you can examine the fine selection at the Ruffin Flag Company of Georgia.

On the other hand, Comrade, if you prefer Officially Approved Symbols, Amazon can fix you up with merchandise commemorating that great (National) Socialist regime led by Chancellor Hitler. Meanwhile, Walmart can fix you up with iconography of that racist murdererrevolutionary hero Che Guevara!

Mychal Massie has an opinion on the subject, and so does Zo Rachel. Also also, Allen West has some surprising news regarding the slain Charleston pastor’s opinion of the flag.

Apologies for the lack of linkagery this morning, but I spent most of the morning and afternoon at the VA here in Las Vegas dealing with some unexpected bleeding. All’s well, and things should be back to normal tomorrow.

  1. I’ve always been a misfit in the redneck culture into which I was born. I’ve never been tempted to own a Confederate flag. And In 1996 when there was a great outcry to change the GA flag ahead of the Olympics, I was enthusiastically in favor of the change. But now with the headline-driven hysteria from the ignorant SJWs of the outrage-industrial complex, I think I’m fixin’ to do a 180 on my attitude toward the symbols of the Confederacy.

  2. I can easily see the Confederate battle flag being revalorised after all the kerfuffle, becoming an even more potent symbol of it what it always has been: an emblem of independence, self-sufficiency, and defiance against an increasingly intrusive, tyrannical, and corrupt government…

  3. Unexpected bleeding? Gee, there’s been a lot of that going around since early 2009.

(Seriously, wombat, hope you are feeling better!)

  4. SJWs have no idea what they are doing. Normal people will revolt against what they are doing and the Battle Flag will symbolize exactly what it meant in 1865, resistance against an overreaching FedGov.

  5. In her sewing room, Mrs. Animal has an Army of Northern Virginia battle flag (the same one almost universally referred to as the “Confederate flag) that she first picked up while a student at Virginia Tech in the 1980s. Mrs. A is as far from a racist as you could get. So why did she buy the flag? Why did so many of her fellow students also buy them?

Because the university said they couldn’t.

    There’s a lesson there, folks.

  6. I am an old, white guy. When do I get to start dictating how everyone else gets to live their lives? I have a HUGE list of things that offend me, so when do we get around to banning them? Let’s start with 1970s nostalgia. Or people who expect us to forgive this week’s latest terrorist outrage but can’t let go of the Crusades. Or, since I am left-handed, how about every light socket on Earth…

  7. I’m looking at the Williamson link with AdBlock and Ghostery both disabled and no images are showing.

  8. The Gadsden flag is a Tea Party thing that doesn’t have the wide appeal of the Confederate flag… The Gadsden flag used to fly all over the place in my neck of the woods, but they’re becoming less common these days, it seems…

  9. Byrd’s eulogists in the congressional Democratic caucus resorted to flagrant lying about this, claiming he had to do it to get elected. West Virginians are upland Southerners. The black population is modest (<4% of the total) as in other upland areas, and the color bar just never took up much space in anyone's head. Neither Byrd's predecessor (Chapman Revercomb) nor the chap serving
along side him (Jennings Randolph) had a history of antagonism to
blacks. If I am not mistaken, Byrd may be the only member of the West
Virginia congressional delegation in the post-war period who was
associated with any like organization – Klan, White Citizens' Council,
etc. Byrd was working retail at the time and in no danger of being elected to anything.

The 2d incarnation of the Klan was a fad organization, boasting a seven digit membership ca. 1923 and a five digit membership a decade later. At the time Byrd was organizing klaverns in West Virginia ca. 1942, the whole mess was passe, rather like selling War Bonds in 1963. He supposedly recruited a three digit population for his klaverns. The board of the national organization voted to dissolve in 1944.

Robert Byrd in 1942 was a small-time no-account who despised blacks and made that the basis of his major avocation. Strom Thurmond wasn't like that. Richard Russell wasn't like that. I think you can find some other Southern politicians of the early 20th century who were like that (Bilbo & Vardaman of Mississippi), but you have to dig (at least at the federal level).

  10. So, you’re going with “Lincoln was a tyrant” because he wouldn’t let those poor plantations own other people, and work them to death? The
confederate battle flag should have disappeared from public view during Reconstruction, but Andrew Johnson turned cowardly, and defied men like Stevens who wanted to rightfully punish the bastards. and sorry, the overwhelming majority of people view the confederate flag as racist, and symbolic of segregation, and slavery. You do realize that for millions of African Americans the flag is a symbol of pain, or do you just not care?

  11. Yeah, normal people will keep defending a flag that for the majority of Americans symbolizes racism, and slavery. Normal
Americans don’t view Lincoln as a tyrant, either. That’s for selfish “me me me” libertarians.

  12. Ignorant Americans think the battle flag symbolizes racism and slavery and ignorant Americans don’t view Lincoln as a tyrant. I don’t expect ignorant educators to dispense anything other than ignorance, and you’re a very good testimony to that stupidity.

  13. the SPLC has a big pile of cash to stir it up. And the NYTimes published an editorial by the SPLC a few days ago – they always do that, and then Salon and Alternet amplify it – or have Jon Stewart amplify it for them.

  14. Josephus, your simplistic nonsense merely brands you as an ignoramus. You are not a serious student of history. Lincoln made it clear that his war aims did not include interfering with slavery in the states where it already existed. Yes, he was a tyrant. I am currently reading a book entitled “Slavery was not the cause of the war between the states, the irrefutable argument” by Gene Kizer, Jr. The North was dependent on the South for its economic survival, and Southern secession would cause the North’s economic collapse and put an end to the Republican Party. All commerce would shift from the North’s high tariff ports to the South’s free trade ports, and was already in the process of doing so. Only Lincoln’s war on the South could stop it.

  15. How about erasing any memory of the Nazi murdering b**ch Margaret Sanger from public life? After all she advocated for sterilizing blacks as an inferior race.

  16. I’m a first generation American I don’t even have a dog in this fight but I do live in the South. The South that the liberal describe I don’t recognize. Charleston reaction to the atrocity is typically Southern

  17. Clarity alert, I needed a comma after Nazi. Sanger murdered babies not Nazis. She was a fascist like her leftist descendants and a Nazi to the bone.

  18. Lincoln was perfectly willing to let Southerners keep their slaves as long as they remained in the Union and continued paying his high tariffs. After all, if the North didn’t want them to own slaves, why did they sell them to the South in the first place? As for Thaddeus Stevens, he was the animalistic typical Yankee, living proof that the South’s secession was necessary and right. Do I care that many blacks see the flag as painful? No, not much. I figure that they have been listening too much to the skewed and self-serving history as told by Northerners.

  19. Five bucks says this idiot Josephus is the same guy as yesterday’s Jockey and Joel. Thay all make the same false (and stupid) arguments. If so, no amount of fact will dissuade him, as he is unable to think critically.

Perhaps I should email Wombat “The Banhammer” Socho and ask if all three of these are new “troll” accounts.

  20. I like Mrs. Animal. Not only does she have a sewing room, but she also has the battle flag in it.

  21. I can see them on my iPad. Haven’t tried with Windows. But I can tell you that they are all wonderfully offensive. The first one is a pride flag with the Southern cross on top. And they go down from there, until he gets to one guaranteed to offend every single liberal in the world. 😀

  22. DM, I am sure you are correct about his inability to think critically. I have no illusions about converting him to the right side of the argument, but I do enjoy throwing facts at people like this. Facts scare them and they find facts painful.

  23. Did you notice what the two flags are? Or do you engage in selective outrage like all libtards?
