Given time constraints and general bewilderment at the Democrat takeover of the GOP, there just hasn’t been much to say. Hopefully Darleen will get Friday Fiction going again. On Twitter, it’s been an endless parade of horribles if I don’t join the Trumpenproletariat. Fortunately, the indispensable Jonah Goldberg offers a fine read to help with the can’t-get-motivated-to-vote-for-a-Democrat blues. Read the whole thing, including the blowback against the mighty James Taranto:
I may not be the philologist James is, but I do grok that Perry was speaking metaphorically when he said Trump was a cancer and leading us to Hell. But speaking figuratively and speaking seriously are not antipodes. One can use metaphors and still speak with sincerity. When Jesus said, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved,” he was speaking metaphorically but not insincerely. I made the mistake of thinking Rick Perry was serious when he said these things. Perhaps Taranto’s the wiser man for cynically believing words never matter when uttered by politicians.
I guess I should thank Johnny B. Cryin’ and Mike Pence. The Duhnamic Duo, just ahead of the Indiana primary, broke whatever weak geas had me thinking that one should default to supporting the GOP nominee. The mask is off. I joke about our “1.1-party system. That “1.1” is like a stencil for an international gesture, pointed downward. For the last decade, the Vichy GOP has struggled between craving the bigger offices in DC afforded the majority party, and utter disgust for the Bitter Cling-On conservative base that would deliver that majority.
It’s sort of a Glorious Progressive Revolution, the way that conservatives have been thrown under the bus, in favor of Donald of Orange. (Donald is the extroverted sociopath from New York, controlled by the Tribble on his head. Donald is not to be confused with the introverted sociopath from New York holding the remote for the Tribble.) About the only shoe left to drop is the nominating convention. I’ll hold off joining the Libertarian party until I hear what Ted Cruz has to say. As the leading conservative remaining in the Republocrat Party, and a genius of Jonah Goldberg’s caliber, Ted is about the only person imaginable who could argue me into any GOP support. Promises to be some fine rhetoric. My guess is that he’ll come real, real close to returning Pence’s carefully calibrated flaccid support for a Trump/Busey ticket.
You can take the Democrat out of the party, but you can't take the Democratic party out of @realDonaldTrump

Oh look, the idiot white nationalists are back.
Being liberal always polls well. It’s the results of liberal policies that don’t poll well.
T. Roosevelt was an outdoorsman. Drumpf doesn’t feel comfortable sleeping outside of Manhattan.
The alt-right are a pack of bigots now? That’s not just a Dem talking point, that’s gender feminist crap right out of Brianna Wu’s mouth.
And what’s this about “a guy who mocks the disabled, smears immigrants, and wants to ban Muslims”? Gee, where have I heard that before? Maybe the last time I was on some daffy intersectionalist lesbian’s Twitter feed.
What does Goldberg stand for? Is there any upward limit he’s willing to put on this country’s population whatsoever? Just give a a crazy number just to ensure there is at least a number: 8 billion, 30 billion? Why doesn’t Goldberg go walking down Talaat Harb St. in one of the most culturally influential yet moderate Muslim nations with a “I’m Proud to Be a Jew” t-shirt and then let’s see how fast he wants to ban Muslims. What’s he relying on there when it comes to America: demographic uncertainty? The ability to never actually live in a majority Muslim neighborhood? NO. Let’s not ban Muslims, cuz then some asshat might actually accuse me of being able to correctly assess reality, threat assessments, and history.
People like Goldberg smear immigrants every time he and all his ilk decide to stay as far away as possible from the source of those immigrants even while bringing them in wholesale. Apparently Goldberg thinks there will always be some magical supremacist enclave like Israel we can flee to which by some amazing turn of magical thinking doesn’t smear immigrants as long as they’re Jewish. But forget that for America. No. We’re the great experiment. Well, so was Bikini Atoll.
I didn’t say “all ways”, obviously.
TR had better taste, too.
DIABLO–Democrat In All But Label Only.
Cruz said several times that he didn’t want it. Maybe that’s why. He also said the same thing about VP. I think he wants to stay as far away from the disaster as possible. I hope he continues to and doesn’t endorse the fraud. I will be very disappointed if he does.
What was wrong with Ted Cruz as Plan B?
Why did Plan B have to be someone who doesn’t even pretend to be a conservative?
+1, but DRANO includes the ‘R’.
I don’t know. Conservatism should still be a choice, for any with lingering shreds of soul.
“What does Goldberg stand for?”
Gosh, kinda hard to tell, given the man’s prolific writing at NRO and best-sellers. #Derp
I read it before I read yours. Even he admits the he is only not voting Trump because his vote doesn’t matter anyway, being a DC resident.
I am enirely unimpressed with the precious principal princesses who are in de facto support of Clinton due to some alleged defect of trump.
Everything you think you might hate about trump is worse by spades in Clinton.
There are only two choices: Trump and Clinton. My kids are too young to let the world burn under Clinton due to fit of pique.
Someone different than a RINO? Yeah, we were looking forward to that, but then we got someone who gave $50,000 to Boehner’s last reelection campaign, and a similar sum to Mitch McConnell’s. That’s BOEHNER AND MCCONNELL — the Twin Towers of the GOP Establishment. Then there was the millions he donated to Democrats over the last few decades. And last year, he announced that he was a conservative before he announced that he would impose single payer health care and that he would continue to fund Planned Parenthood. On the basis that he promised that Mexico would pay to build a wall for us, his supporters ignored his promise to be sure there was a door for reentry in that wall as well as his 2012 comment that Mitt Romney was being “too harsh” on illegals when Romney said that they would self-deport when they were unable to find jobs in the U.S. because of E-verify. But the Trumpenfuehrer isn’t a RINO. Right. Got it.
Don-the-Con gave John Boehner $50,000 for his last reelection campaign. In 2014 Don gave Mitch McConnell $50,000 for his. As a result, both Boehner and McConnell quietly supported the Trumpenfuehrer in the 2016 campaign until just about the time Cheeto Don had the GOP nomination in the bag, at which time, Boehner, speaking from the luxury and comfort of his taxpayer funded retirement villa on the French Riviera, identified Ted Cruz as “Lucifer” removing all doubt that the Twin Towers of the GOP Establishment were supporting Cheeto, the short-fingered, short tempered vulgarian, circus performer, toothsome former game show host, and self-certified liar.
“I am enirely unimpressed with the precious principal princesses who are
in de facto support of Clinton due to some alleged defect of trump.”
This is as intellectually dishonest as anything Her Majesty has to say.
What? Carson follows Cheeto around with a list of VP potentials? That’s his job now?
Of course Cheeto, the Carnival Barker, wouldn’t include the most qualified nominee for the Supreme Court — because he said — in perhaps the richest remark ever made by a non-politician politician — that “Cruz is a slimey guy” and “no one likes him.” Which is undoubtedly true if those you are consulting are John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, etc.
Sorry to say but the Conservative movement in the US is dead. It presumes there is something to “conserve”. There isn’t, because of Obama’s “fundamental transformation” among other things. People are desperately clinging to a vapor.
I don’t need prolific. Just show me even one so-called “conservative” like Goldberg willing to publicly state an upward limit on the U.S. population.
Israel is a Jewish state. Turkey is a Turkish state. Egypt is an Arab/Islamic state.
What am I? A baggage handler for those folks in my own country? I don’t recall any stories about feminists and Arabs building dams here. All I know is they want an equal cut, but only here, not in their own domains. That’s UNESCO territory.
The guy’s made some smart comments about Morsi in the past but Goldberg’s brain is failing him here.
I’d say “Manhattan penthouse apartment” myself.
Trump doesn’t rise to the dignity of a New York Liberal Democrat. His priority has always been himself.
Well, they both were NY City boys. And they both were born to at least some level of money. And they both can be described as subscribing to Progressive politics.
Jawohl, Herr Drumpf ist Nazionalistisch.
Perry adjusted his position. Translation: Perry sold out to Trump.
Some alleged defect of Trump? Trump alleged his own defects, as when he stated on national television that he routinely bribes politicians of both parties. Little did we know then that included Boehner and McConnell. And about that last little shot he took at Ted Cruz — the story about his father, Rafael, being a co-conspirator in the JFK assassination? Trump revived the ‘grassy knoll’ theory, and the Hoosiers rewarded him with the GOP nomination.
36 of the last 47 years is still 11 more years as “other” than anyone else we’ve nominated.
Trump is an opportunistic parasite, like Charlie Crist or Mike Bloomberg. No thanks.
It is not at all clear that Trump won’t be worse than Hillary, even given everything we know about her.
You’re welcome, Hillary!
Right. Therefore, support Hillary.
What is plan C? Civil War? Who will get shot?? Police? Soldiers? Are we to drag leftist profs out of their classrooms and shoot them on the quad? Do we drag their student supporters out and hang them from light posts? Maybe we just drag a few “illegal immigrants” to death behind a few pickup trucks?
What exactly is supposed to happen should Trump lose?
I am entirely unimpressed with the histrionics of the Trumpkins, reminiscent of teenaged girls.
Gee, then maybe the Republican Party shouldn’t have let him run under their banner.
Trump is a clown, and will always remain so.
I don’t care for the alt right and their culkservative crap (thinking that somehow helps Trump). I don’t care for people calling Trump a Nazi because I don’t think that is true.
On the progressive side, perhaps. But TR was a cattle rancher, war hero, almost killed exploring the Amazon.
Trump will probably be bad but Hillary will certainly be bad. Why is this hard to understand?
A narcissist – like Obama.
You know better than that.
And Trump could be even WORSE than Hillary. Those who are risk averse might prefer the devil they know. I don’t plan to vote for either devil.
Try to be real. If you’ve been paying attention for any reasonable amount of time since 1992 you must be aware that she’s far worse.
Heaven knows I dislike Trump but it’s time to drop the wounded pride and think about the welfare of the nation.
We actually had several such candidates – the best GOP field in decades.
Trump is more like Juan Peron. Or Silvio Berlusconi.
I know Hillary Clinton is horrible – but probably not as bad as Obama or Sanders or Trump. And her health is not good, so she might not even survive her first term!
As for Trump, there is no reason to believe anything he says. He has made it clear that nothing he says constitutes a commitment – with him everything is just a negotiating ploy. You won’t know his actual goal until you’ve been conned.
No, I don’t. Otherwise I wouldn’t have made that comment.
Link please.
Civil War is probably Plan E.
Well done. EBL. Others should take note of your good example, but I think they are having too much fun throwing a temper tantrum.
And the Governator is a distinct possibility.
Didn’t you get the note, Fail? The Establishment wants to import a bunch of jihadi Yemenese. Its for our own good.
Perry did like a lot of the folk here are doing. He engaged in hyperbole. He did not want Trump to win, but now that its an established fact, he’s moving forward.
Standard politics.
