‘Fake News’ and Fake Hate

As if Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself) were not busy enough spinning conspiracy theories about Russian hackers and “fake news” stealing the presidential election from Hillary Clinton, they have also found time to slander Republican voters as perpetrators of “hate crimes.” Last week, the ugly truth was revealed about a phony “victim”:

A Muslim student who said she was harassed on the subway by drunken, hate-spewing white men shouting “Donald Trump!” lied to police because she broke her curfew, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
Yasmin Seweid, 18, joined a growing list of local and national alleged hate-crime victims when she told cops she was taunted Dec. 1 on the No. 6 train by three men who called her a terrorist and tried to snatch her hijab off her head while straphangers did nothing.
But Seweid finally broke down Wednesday and was arrested after she admitted to detectives that it was all a big lie.
“Nothing happened, and there was no victim,” a police source said.
Police sources say Seweid made up the story because she didn’t want to get in trouble for breaking her curfew after being out late drinking with friends.
Her strict, Muslim parents allegedly forced Seweid to shave her head over the incident and were upset that she was dating a Christian, sources said.
The bareheaded Baruch College student, not wearing her hijab, was charged with filing a false report and released after her arraignment early Thursday in Manhattan Criminal Court.

It should not be necessary to say, of course, that Muslims sometimes are victims of prejudice, just as innocent black people sometimes are shot by police, and just as college girls sometimes are raped on campus. Yet the liberal media narrative — in which racism, sexism, and homophobia are presented as crisis-level problems — is a form of political propaganda.

This narrative supports a “social justice” worldview and thereby mobilizes support for the Democrat Party. If all you know about racism is what you get from the liberal media, you must believe (a) non-white Americans live in a state of continual suffering and fear, (b) white people routinely perpetrate violence against racial minorities, and (c) the Republican Party is essentially to blame for this regime of racist oppression. The message of the liberal narrative is simple: “Stop racism — vote Democrat.”

Even when their lies are exposed, dishonest journalists still find a way to spin the story to sustain their propaganda narrative:

A spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Ibrahim Hooper, said in an interview on Wednesday that Muslims in America were feeling “tremendous psychological stress and pressure” that can result in episodes like this one.
“No one out of the blue decides to make this kind of report,” he said. “Whenever there are these rare instances of alleged false reports — it’s still an allegation at this point — it’s used by the growing Islamophobic community to delegitimize and undermine the many legitimate anti-Muslim incidents.”

You see that the New York Times treats Ibrahim Hooper as a legitimate source, when in fact he is an anti-American hatemonger. Ask yourself, when the New York Times similarly quoted any Republican-leaning source in any such context? Why are the media so devoted to sustaining the narrative that Muslims are always victims of prejudice and oppression, no matter what the actual facts may be? Simply because they believe that this narrative helps advance the Democrat Party agenda.

The suspicious nature of Yasmin Seweid’s story was obvious to anyone. Drunk Trump supporters yelling slurs on a subway in New York City? When 87% of voters in Manhattan County supported Hillary Clinton? Yet even as this fake hate hoax unraveled, it was still treated seriously.

A week after she claimed to have been harassed, Seweid mysteriously disappeared, causing a panic that inspired speculation that she had been kidnapped and possibly killed by those evil Trump guys. Detectives conducted a search for her even while the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force investigated Seweid’s original claim and, for several days, her story helped drive the media’s Trump-is-Hitler propaganda narrative. Her story was an absolute lie — a deliberate fabrication– that became nationwide news for the simple reason that this was a lie that Democrats desperately wanted Americans to believe.

Yasmin Seweid is a latter-day Tawana Brawley, but most young people have never heard of the Tawana Brawley hoax, nor have most young people heard of the Duke lacrosse rape hoax perpetrated by a criminal named Crystal Mangum with the assistance of a corrupt Democrat district attorney, the faculty of Duke University, and the New York Times, which treated Mangum’s lies as truth. The New York Times so utterly discredited itself in the Duke case that no honest journalists could in good conscience ever work for that publication. However, a sort of selective amnesia prevails in the media, so that every time Democrats begin promoting a new bogus narrative, all the usual journalistic suspects enthusiastically climb aboard the bandwagon to publicize what ever lies are necessary to advance the partisan agenda.

Having organized their coalition on the basis of identity politics, Democrats rely on their media allies to help maintain the perception that America is unfair to women, minorities and gay people, and that constant activism (e.g., protest movements like “Black Lives Matter”) is necessary to prevent those racist, sexist, homophobic Republicans from imposing even worse oppression on the alleged victims of social injustice.

This victimhood narrative is false. We are a nation whose tradition of constitutional freedom provides opportunities unparalleled anywhere in the world, or at any time in human history, to anyone who is willing to work hard to make their own American dream come true. Yet the Democrats cannot win elections by telling the truth about America, and so they must relentlessly slander our country, our people and our traditions.

In the famous words of Jeanne Kirkpatrick, Democrats “always blame America first,” and the liberal media are the crux of this problem. Until journalists stop promoting this phony narrative — a destructive falsehood that is deeply harmful to our nation — there will be a continuing erosion of trust in the mainstream media. Because everyone with two eyes and a brain can see how the Democrat-controlled media is engaged in a campaign of deliberate deceit, the responsibility for this erosion of trust rests upon these partisan operatives pretending to be objective reporters.
