Iowa State University ‘Sexuality’ Professor Heckles Rick Perry at Campaign Event

Posted on | December 12, 2011 | 24 Comments

Warren Blumenfeld, associate professor of “Multicultural & International Curriculum Studies,” academic heckler:

A packed coffee house where Rick Perry spoke this afternoon turned into a bit of a ruckus that left the candidate heading out the back door and straight to his vehicle after several Iowans screamed questions about his views on gays.
“Why do you hate gay people so much,” someone in the audience screamed as Perry wrapped up a campaign stop without taking questions from the audience.
“Go back to Texas” another screamed from the back of Cafe Diem coffee shop in Ames.
Iowa State University associate professor Warren Blumenfeld was one who shouted questions to Perry, asking him why he was marginalizing and demonizing non-Christians.
“The implication is if you’re gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered, you’re not a real American,” said Blumenfeld, who teaches studies about sexuality. “He is marginalizing people and dividing this country, and he’s demonizing proud Americans who just don’t have the social identities as he has.”

A quick glance at Blumenfeld’s c.v. indicates he isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed: He got his B.A. in sociology at San Jose State in 1969 and waited some 30 years before getting an Ed.D., which is one of those “junk” degrees that public-school bureaucrats get if they’re an assistant principal who wants to get promoted. Professor Blumenfeld’s “research interests” include:

Multicultural education, queer studies, special education, educational psychology, social identities (race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, socioeconomic class, religion, physical and mental abilities) and the ways in which they affect educational outcomes; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in education; gender fair education; intergroup relations; school bullying; cyberbullying; Christian privilege; African American and Jewish American relations.

Professor Blumenfeld’s academic publications include such prestigious works as Butler Matters: Judith Butler’s Impact on Feminist and Queer Studies and Homophobia: How we all pay the Price.

  • Question One: In tough economic times, how does the state of Iowa justify employing such a professor of useless trivia?
  • Question Two: Doesn’t Professor Blumenfeld read the news? Rick Perry loves gays so much he hired one as his pollster.
  • Question Three: Can’t somebody persuade Professor Blumenfeld to heckle Rick Santorum? He needs the publicity more.

If Perry had been clever he would have replied “Why do you beg the question so much?”.

“If Perry had been clever” is a hypothetical that covers a cosmic vastness.

Indeed.  Right up there with ‘if Obama wasn’t so arrogant’ and ‘if W had been more eloquent’.’

The road to the White House for conservatives will not be paved with the scalps of LGBT citizens.  This issue is a big fat loser nationally.  Time to give it a rest and move on to muslims, don’t you think?  The next hated group on deck, hmmm?

Or, maybe try policies which unite the country?

Why heckle Perry anyway?   He is not anti gay (Rick Santorum, rightly or wrongly, has that title).  Hell, some people say Rick is gay (I don’t buy that but it is a wide spread rumor).  But mostly, most people try to heckle a front runner.

Perry may be clever, he just does not come off as clever in debates.  Unfair perhaps but perception matters for the POTUS.

Hmm, next hate group huh?  How about we focus on people with the initials J.K?

And I like the Harry Potter series.

Seeing as how Copperheads like you have been breaking up the country as long as your party has existed, pardon me while I laugh.

the “unite the country” campaignspeak is such a lame canard. the country was pretty “united” against gays in the military in the early 1990s for instance, but in those cases of course it’s “tyranny of the majority.”

back when there were lopsided majorities against gay marriage maybe the GOP should’ve told homosexuals “c’mon now, we’ll let you do your thing but trying to shame people into revising their conception of marriage…really dividing the country here fellas.” i’m sure then everyone would’ve agreed to disagree and kumbaya’d.

alls i’m saying is making your arguments, rage against The System, whatever, just don’t try to phrase it as uniter vs. divider bullshit.

    Sexuality Professor!

That’s even less impressive than Obama’ fake teaching gig at the Univ of Chicago…  where his level of effort was comparable  to Andy Capp

also, “queer” activists at this point in time might be taken more seriously if they a) separated the LG from the BT, since if B is genuine and not transitional then the person is perfectly capable of committing to a dreaded Traditional Marriage ™ and the T is another subject entirely, and b) if they stopped trying to have it both ways with homosexuality being an immutable characteristic, BUT also kids should be encouraged to continually “explore their sexuality” growing up, and really a lot of people’s sexuality is fluid on the Kinsey scale anyway, and look at these hip “hasbians” who did their part against The Patriarchy back in the day, etc. etc.

i’d guess that a good amount of homosexual activists don’t believe in this infinitely fluid sexuality queer studies klaptrap but a lot of “open-minded” people seem to engage in a good deal of wishful thinking on the subject.

Homofaguals always accuse their critics of being closeted homofaguals. That’s nothing new.

I think we ought to reach out to Islamic raghead goatfuckers and to homofaguals. The ragheads can kill the homofaguals and then we can prosecute the ragheads for murder. How about you James? Would you like me to arrange for you to meet up with some good goat fucking ragheads?

I have a birthday coming up, and this piece reminds me how I feel about my age.

    I don’t really mind growing old….
If you discount the missing the final destruction of the country I fought in three wars for ? I doubt I’ll make the few remaining years to break the century barrier, and anyway, Prez!Stinky™’s medical panel will certainly want to reclaim the carbon put to the ill-use
    of animating a grumpy Constitutionalist….
    (;~)??

Oddly, the major comfort I have is no longer being forced to witness “Progressives” (knowingly and maliciously) torture English.

I witnessed the use of “gay” for homosexuals, and the spokes-thing gleefully stated it was purely for propaganda, (“…we want everyone to know that being homosexual isn’t sad, but something to be joyful about! It’s a superior lifestyle!”). This on PBS, and at the ti
e I thought peopl too intelligent to fall for it.

Queer. I knew the word to mean “odd” (a word the homosexuals took over on the way to “queer” and “gay”…).

Where does it end? I know this seems a petty complaint, but after watching cultures for 80+ yrs, I know it has a major – if not a huge – impact.

I admit, at one time I was naive and believed it when their spokes-critters stated – voices dripping with contempt – that proselytizing wasn’t their purpose.

Yeah. Look at actions, not words. Words, even if the intention is to deal honestly – which in this case is doubtful – can lie. Actions do not. You can tell “where a man’s treasure is” by what his heart moves him to do. A thief, a tyrant, a cad… they can con, but their actions will tell as they work to change their surroundings to suit their hearts.

So many good-hearted people are due a rude awakening.

So a shrill hectoring queer decided to uphold the honor and dignity of gays by being a shrill hectoring queer.
