Republican Senators Sell Out, Vote for Cloture on ‘Gang of Eight’ Amnesty Bill

Well, we expected this, didn’t we? Thirty Republican senators, led by Mitch McConnell, voted to debate this dishonest monstrosity.

In order to disprove a Democrat lie — that Republicans are “anti-immigrant” and hate Latinos — McConnell will trample underfoot the rule of law and surrender U.S. sovereignty by supporting an amnesty that he and his gutless colleagues will insist is not actually an amnesty.

We need to deport these criminals. Republican senators, I mean.

Yesterday’s vote wasn’t a cloture vote, right Stacy? It was a vote to open debate. The key vote will be the cloture vote, the vote to close off debate, which requires a 60 vote majority. Still, mine is a quibble. My Republican Senator, Burr, will get no more votes from me if he votes for cloture. Who needs a Republican Senator who would vote for this POS?

I am with Ted Cruz, legitimate immigration reform is fine. This Orwellian named monstrosity is definitely not legitimate.

Spread the alarm like Paul Revere. The only thing stopping this is the fear that incumbents will not be reelected if they support it.

I want to know who is “advising” these republicans. It wouldn’t surprise me if it was revealed the advisers and the pollsters working for the republicans were actually progressive plants. Not trying to sound like Alex Jones, but this is a complete, and total disconnect from the base of the party. Republicans have a ton of ammo with all these scandals, and they choose to capitulate on immigration, completely destroying all the momentum.
Marco Rubio ruined his chances to ever be elected to higher office over this issue. Who is whispering in Marco’s ear?

OK. I’m confused. Isn’t it good to debate anything that Congress is considering? It seems to me that voting to debate something isn’t even close to voting to pass it. How are we ever going to know just how bad it is if they don’t debate it? I’m sincere about being confused. Please explain.

How will we ever know that if they don’t discuss it in open debate? It sounds like you just said,” It won’t matter anyway, so why discuss it?”. That isn’t the most freedom inspiring message to send.

Reform my foot. It is AMNESTY pure and simple – dressed up in a thousand pages of trash that nobody reads. NO COMPROMISE. No amendments – just vote it down again and every time it rears its ugly head. Run those jerks out of town. Hound them out of office. Expose who is funding them. We all know what it means –

a) we pay for their benefits

b) we lose every election henceforth

c) we pay their college “education”

d) we pay they medical bills

e) they bring in all their relatives

Open debate? Like when the democrats rejected every amendment offered by republicans on this bill? Seriously? What debate do you want them to have? The amnesty portion, or the complete lack of border security? Oh, that’s right…. all the republican amendments were rejected that would’ve made this anyone other than what it really is : a voter’s registration drive for democrats.

Being deliberately obtuse might work for low information democrat voters- it doesn’t work here.

If Republicans just block the start of debate, Obama gets to campaign against us as obstructionists and we gain nothing in particular for 2014. If debate opens, we get to introduce amendments, which also means Democrats up for reelection next year will have to go on the record repeatedly.

You were given an honest answer. The reality is there is no open debate. I realize that bursting your bubble may present some difficulty for you, but teh world is the way it is. The GOP leadership has been wheeling and dealing for the US Chamber of Commerce so they can have more cheap labor, and the Dims are wheeling and dealing for more socialist voters. So there is a strong coincidence of interests. Open debate is rarely in the cards and I can’t remember one in my adult life and I’m 58.
