When ‘Shutuppery’ Fails

Twitchy jumped on the story about Greg Flynn’s attempt to intimidate North Carolina blogger Lady Liberty, featuring Sister Toldjah’s story of how she was targeted by North Carolina Democrat activist Jeanne Bond and her “front group” Moving NC Forward.

When the Left’s attempts to silence dissent are exposed, the thugs who fail in their efforts inevitably claim victimhood: They are being “harassed.” They are being targeted by “death threats.”

They have done nothing wrong, they believe, because they are liberals and anything they do is acceptable, because . . . shut up!

Being described as a “noted douche nozzle” is just one immediate consequence of failed “shutuppery.” Secondary consequences include:

Democrats like Greg Flynn, Jeanne Bonds and John Burns evidently believe that no one should be permitted to criticize them. So when they try to “dox” bloggers and get caught, the people who expose them are then alleged to be engaged in wrongdoing: “How dare you describe my attempt to intimidate you into silence?”

This is exactly why Brett Kimberlin named me among five defendants in his lawsuit for “malicious prosecution, conspiracy to abuse process, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, harassment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and stalking.” 

My wrongdoing, according to Kimberlin, is to have described his attempted intimidation of Aaron Walker and others.

“If Brett Kimberlin hates you, he will do anything within his power to harm you — even though he derives no benefit from these destructive acts other than the sadistic vengeful pleasure of inflicting harm. Now that Kimberlin is engaged in legal warfare against his wife who left him, we can observe conclusive proof that (a) Kimberlin’s attacks on enemies like Aaron Walker were never really about politics, and (b) the “Accuse the Accusers” method is Kimberlin’s characteristic strategy.
“In an effort to discredit his estranged wife Tetyana, Brett Kimberlin had her taken into custody July 6, seeking to have her involuntarily committed for psychiatric evaluation. This vindictive strategy failed — Tetyana was immediately released by Montgomery County District Court Judge Patricia Mitchell — but Kimberlin has continued this destructive smear against her. In a hearing Tuesday before Maryland District Court Judge Barry Hamilton, Kimberlin claimed that Tetyana is mentally ill, off her medications for bipolar disorder.”

That July 18 post is actually quoted in Kimberlin’s lawsuit as evidence that I have defamed and harassed him when, in fact, I have merely described his depraved character, habits and behavior.

Readers may have noticed that this post is datelined “Rockville, Maryland.” I have come here to begin preparing my legal defense against Brett Kimberlin’s baseless accusations, and one must wonder if Brett Kimberlin has contemplated the consequences — primary, secondary and tertiary — that may ensue when “shutuppery” fails.

 

 


Deranged Cyberstalker Bill Schmalfeldt: Often Wrong, But Never in Doubt

Last night, Ali and I did a podcast that began with a half-hour on the Washington Navy Yard shootings and then continued on for another hour-and-a-half about the continuing madness of Bill Schmalfeldt. What we didn’t know what that Schmalfeldt stayed up past his bedtime to listen — and fulminate with rage, which John Hoge chronicles.

Fulminating with rage is Bill Schmalfeldt’s modus operandi. Here’s a Facebook threat he sent to a woman in 2011:

“Now . . . you’re going to wind up being the Monica Lewinsky for Jeremy’s Bill Clinton unless you start telling the truth and start telling it quick. I’m done fucking around, and I am not going away. You’ve already had “the media’s” interest in this case explained to you. Now, do you wanna play dumb and lose your kids? Or do you wanna play smart and keep what you got? I am not making any threats. I am just trying to help you avoid a shit storm for some giggling fuck who doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you. Do you really want to be dragged through the mud for THIS giggling shitwit. I’ll wait to hear from you. But I send what I have … EVERYTHING … to the Wisconsin Media tomorrow.”

Is a person who does things like that rational? The “Jeremy” referenced is apparently Jeremy Ryan of AddictingInfo.org, whom Schmalfeldt described as his “colleague.” In fact, Schmalfedlt contributed exactly three articles at that site, This was during the Wisconsin recall effort and Bill was at war with a conservative Facebook group called “Operation Burn Notice,” and Schmalfeldt was evidently trying to get some information from this woman . . . why? We don’t know.

It was a bit of irrelevant trivia involving a Facebook group and thus Schmalfeldt’s wildly disproportionate wrath — threatening that the woman would “lose your kids” after he sent information to the media — can only be explained as symptomatic of madness.

Is it any wonder Bill got banned from Facebook? And then turned his complaint against Facebook into an 18-minute YouTube video?

Bill Schmalfeldt has a clear pattern of such behavior. Ken White has written a lengthy examination of Schmalfeldt’s threatening rhetoric.

Nothing — except perhaps the voices inside Bill’s head.

It’s important to remember where this all began, eh?

That post from last September was the first time the name “Bill Schmalfeldt” appeared on this blog, and it had nothing to do with me or Lee Stranahan or John Hoge or Ali Akbar. No, it was because Bill Schmalfeldt was threatening to sue Aaron Walker, and Patterico was encouraging contributions to Aaron’s legal defense fund.

By that point Schmalfeldt had already been cyberstalking Walker for three months, because of Walker’s conflict with Brett Kimberlin.

For reasons that I’ve never entirely understood, Schmalfeldt subsequently shifted his focus, targeting Stranahan with absolutely vile attacks, until Stranahan pursued harassment charges. And then there were the bizarre ruminations described by Ken White of Popehat:

Last year, between Christmas and New Years, Bill Schmalfeldt posted a fantasy about mob violence and murder, enthusiastically imagining the death of Patrick Frey and me.

Go read the whole thing and ask yourself: How can someone like Bill Schmalfeldt claim to be a victim of harassment?

It’s important for anyone attacked by Bill Schmalfeldt to remember that the attack is never actually about you or whatever reason Bill offers for why he is angry at you. It’s always about Bill. Consider his response to a Facebook group of Wisconsin activists:

“Any time I’ve been in a bar fight, I’m generally the guy standing. I can’t do it physically any more, but if you dipshits really want to go to court with me, BRING IT. And send me pictures of your homes, because they will be mine. And your wives. They’ll be mine, too. Everything you own. Mine. Anything else you want to talk about, dickface?”

That particular episode began with Schmalfeldt’s beef against a group of conservatives who opposed the union-backed recall effort against Gov. Scott Walker and other Republicans. But it turned into a ridiculous drama because Schmalfeldt’s deranged habits: “Billy is well known for harassment of others on social networking.”

See? This problem was “well-known” before I’d ever heard of Bill Schmalfeldt. Which brings us to today’s eruption of Schmalfeldtian madness.  There is an anonymous Tumblr blog that chronicles Schmalfeldt’s craziness. Schimalfeldt filed a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint. This was the counter-notice:

My name is Ali A. Akbar. I’m the President of the National Bloggers Club. Part of my duty as President is to protect bloggers, including anonymous ones.
It was brought to my attention that Mr. Schmalfeldt has submitted a false DMCA notice against the blog billschmalfeldt.tumblr.com.
He’s a repeat offender at this. At least four of our members have been targeted by Mr. Schmalfeldt in the past. 100% of his DMCA takedown notices have resulted in zero court action. He’s simply trying to suppress free speech and keep citizen-journalists from writing about him.
In fact, DreamHost recently dropped him for copyright infringement. WordPress has dropped several images he’s uploaded too. This character has been banned from Twitter, Facebook, DailyKos.com, Examiner.com over a dozen times.
One blogger has a restraining order against Mr. Schmalfeldt as he is an adjudicated harasser according to the Maryland courts. His harassment of bloggers is that bad.

His attempt to terrorize my members isn’t working. . . .
Please make sure your legal department is aware of Mr. Schmalfeldt’s continued [misbehavior]. If they need anymore information about him — they need to go no further than typing his name into a Yahoo! search or even “Bill Schmalfeldt DMCA.”

That’s just it, see? Type the name “Bill Schmalfeldt” into any search engine, and you immediately realize he’s nuts.

There’s only one person on the planet who doesn’t realize this.

His name? Bill Schmalfeldt.

Today, however, Bill Schmalfeldt had a meltdown (yes, another one) that led to him ranting on and on about Ali Akbar and . . . well, this:

Tell you what, Bill: Why don’t you go make some more “mail-order bride” slurs about Aaron Walker‘s wife? And when you’re done with that, please call me a “racist.” Because consistency.

#Spambot Wars: Fake @Twitter Accounts With (Coincidentally) Large Breasts

Coincidences just keep piling up everywhere, like big-breasted spambots on Twitter. John Hoge writes:

Of course, not all of the thousands of fake accounts following me are large-breasted females. It’s just that when I wanted to illustrate the point — i.e., that the same few hundred avatar photos are being re-used over and over in these spambots generated by an algorithmic software program — certain examples struck me as visually compelling.

Coincidental? Hardly. And neither is the fact that I’ve been targeted by thousands of these swarming spambots, which is why I really want to see Twitter pursue criminal charges against the creator of these fake accounts. Until there’s a federal indictment, we’re not going to know who is responsible for this harassment.

And if Twitter doesn’t pursue charges — well, I guess they’re not really serious about cracking down on fraudulent accounts, are they?

‘Gosh, Stacy, There’s No Way @Twitter Could Spot All These Fake Accounts’

Excuse me for belaboring the obvious, but I’ve gotten pretty damned fed up with certain “friends” making excuses for Twitter’s inability to stop this influx of spambot accounts. So say hello to Patsy Moen (@MsGiovanna__Sto), Zakary Greenfelder (@Chet_Senger_967), Kirsten Stiedemann (@Conroy_Evan7897), Myrna Schulist Sr. (@MissNia_Kulas__), Annamarie Eichmann (@MrsGerhold_Cory) and Laurie Lehner (@Block_Lia_1657):






Honestly, I’m trying to maintain a sense of humor about this:

The problem is that the ease with which these spammers have gamed the system — creating a simple algorithmic software program that auto-generates thousands upon thousands of these fake accounts — exposes gross negligence by Twitter personnel that degrades the quality of the network, and this is highly relevant now that Twitter is seeking to take their product to the public capital markets:

Last December, Twitter announced that it had more than 200 million active users — people who used the service at least once a month.
A few months later, CEO Dick Costolo told employees he expected to get to 400 million users by the end of 2013, according to people familiar with the company. . . .
One factor that may have thrown off Twitter’s growth targets from earlier this year has been spam. The company went through a significant campaign to get rid of bogus accounts earlier in the year, people familiar with the company said. That effort was successful enough that it ended up shrinking Twitter’s true user number.

Yet the same week they announced their IPO, we discover Twitter can’t stop the cheesy spambot program that generates thousands of accounts like Dr. Miller Pacocha (@BoehmPierce_296), Miss Demetris Heaney (@DrMetz_Dewitt__), Jermaine O’Conner (@Nader_Zackary45), Blanche Tremblay (@MrsHauck_Gertru) and Mr. Greg Hudson (@Shanny_Batz6276):






Even as spam accounts flood onto Twitter, however, the accounts of actual human beings are suspended because of phony “abuse” claims:

Since 2011, at least, conservative activists have complained about “Twitter gulag,” the repeated suspension of accounts prompted by multiple bogus abuse reports from leftist thugs who systematically target their Republican-leaning antagonists. The fact that there is now a Twitter Gulag Defense Network (hashtag #tgdn) to warn users and assist conservative activists targeted for suspension, tells you all you need to know about the ineffectiveness of Twitter’s policies.

How many $100-an-hour programmers does Twitter have on its payroll? How many hours would it take for such a programmer to identify the source of these spambot accounts? And how many more hours would it take to write a code that blocks the spammers?

OK, so once Twitter’s programmers identified the source and blocked the program, how long would it take for a $150-an-hour attorney to write up a criminal complaint against the spammers, documenting the fraud, and to deliver that complaint to the FBI? See, this isn’t just a “terms of service” violation, this is deliberate systematic electronic fraud — a federal felony under various statutes — and until the perpetrators are indicted and prosecuted for their crimes, there is no real incentive to discourage anyone else from doing the same thing.

Twitter needs to get serious about this problem, and my “friends” need to stop telling me that this isn’t a serious problem, because I’m well past the point of tolerating such bullshit advice.

Say hello to the fake Twitter account Evie Pacocha PhD (@Mueller_Moriah2) alias Ms. Darron Reichel (@MrDeondre__Huel) also known as Johnny Gibson DVM (@MsBernhard__Mer):



During another conversation with a friend — and, as usual, by “conversation” I mean me ranting like a madman — about this continuing problem, I made the point that only lax policy by Twitter could make this kind of bogus spam scam feasible.

These fake accounts are all generated by the same algorithmic software, so that they are formulaic and predictable, with the same photo avatars used over and over. Just scanning down the list of thousands of fake accounts now following me on Twitter, I’d estimate they’ve got about 300 or 400 different avatar photos. They’ve programmed a certain number of first and last names into the algorithm, with a few hundred aphoristic sayings (culled from WikiQuotes) used as profile slogans. Always, it’s “United States, [Insert Random State]” as location, and they’re following a couple dozen of the same Twitter accounts.

Because the formula is so obvious, you realize that the fake-account scammers don’t even really have to try very hard to evade whatever security screens Twitter has in place to prevent this kind of fraudulent abuse. It’s such a piece of cake to get through the screens that a simple algorithmic program can auto-generate fake counts by the thousands without anybody at Twitter even noticing!

If Twitter doesn’t take action — and by “take action,” of course I mean siccing the FBI on these spammers and putting a few of them in federal prison so as to put the fear of God into anyone else who would even be tempted to think about trying it again — I’m going to keep hammering them every day. How long have these miserable spambot merchants been doing these cheesy fake accounts and getting away with it? I don’t know, but the day somebody decided to target me for this plague of Twitter locusts was the beginning of the end for them.

An attacker pummeled a bus passenger so hard he smashed the bones in his face after calling the victim a “cracker” in Manhattan — marking the second time in two days that people appeared to be randomly targeted in racial tirades against white people, authorities said.
In the latest incident, the suspect passed a 31-year-old rider on the M60 bus riding through Harlem, on West 127th Street, between Amsterdam Avenue and Morningside Drive, around 2:45 p.m., Friday, when he shouted the racial slur and punched the victim in the face, breaking his nose and eye socket, cops said.
