Chuck Norris And The NRA Vs. The DOJ: One Nearly Feels Sympathy For Holder

by Smitty (via Paco)

Chuck Norris at Town Hall:

Obama’s Department of Justice essentially is amending the Second Amendment by changing the rules for gun sales in border states. While working under the guise of stopping illegal contraband and fighting drug cartels, the White House in reality is further imposing its gun control agenda on the American public through back-door rule-making. This is just one more example of the feds exceeding their powers and avoiding congressional permission. It is also another showing of complete disregard for the Constitution.
Based upon those illegalities, Wayne LaPierre — my friend and the CEO of the National Rifle Association — disclosed on Fox News recently that the NRA filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to issue an injunction barring enforcement of the rule. And with NRA support, the U.S. House has voted to withhold funding for the enforcement of the new regulation.
As LaPierre wrote in his weekly commentary last week, “the cartels run a $40 billion enterprise … but the (Obama) administration wants the public to believe that it’s going to disarm cartels with a form? Who is the president kidding?”
Doesn’t Obama know that restricting the right to bear arms primarily ties the hands of good guys while the bad guys purchase them from a host of illegal sources? And what part of “shall not be infringed” in the Second Amendment do the feds not understand?
Attorney General Eric Holder said the Justice Department will “vigorously oppose” the NRA lawsuit.

The title overstates my position: I don’t feel a shred of sympathy for the Attorney General. He is a national disgrace, on Fast & Furious, and pretty much every other issue that has come up on his watch. In a realistic Administration, he (and likely his boss) should have been long since scuttled.

This is the case that can link Administration malfeasance to American deaths. The House should investigate vigorously, and follow where the facts lead.

Bottom line: there are three main reasons the CIA couldn’t simply hand out guns to their BFFs the Sinaloa soldiers. First, they could get caught. With the ATF scheme, the Agency maintained plausible deniability. Who doesn’t love a patsy?
Second, all new guns come with a paper trail. (See reason one.) The feds must be having a hard enough time keeping the fact that the majority of the guns (and grenades and ammo) sitting in the Mexican government’s crime scene vaults are U.S. military-spec weapons.
And third, why not use the ATF? The Bureau wanted some gun recovery stats to make themselves look important. The CIA wanted to arm the Sinaloas against Los Zetas. Call it mutual self-interest.
Again, none of this excuses anyone from anything. Operation Fast and Furious was an illegal government program. It violated Mexican sovereignty. It aided and abetted the illegal purchase of firearms (a federal crime) and provided weapons to known criminals, who used them to commit felony murder on a federal law enforcement official.
Congressional investigators and the media need to stop acting like Operation Fast and Furious was a good op gone bad. It was a bad op gone worse. To stop this from happening again, we need to uncover and report the truth (and yes, we can handle it.) Remember that bogus “90 percent of drug cartel guns come from the U.S.” stat? In the aftermath of this debacle, it’s time we heard the full truth about Mexican cartels’ guns. I think Agent Terry’s family would agree: we owe it to the memory of his service.

A thorough investigation is called for.

DOJ: Shooting The Messenger (S&P) For Telling The Truth Is Better Than, You Know, Doing Our Job

by Smitty (h/t Drudge)

CNBC:

The Justice Department is investigating whether the nation’s largest credit ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s, improperly rated dozens of mortgage securities in the years leading up to the financial crisis, according to two people interviewed by the government and another briefed on such interviews.

Working hard, trying to muster some surprise.

From the thugs that policitize education and refuse to do the right thing about Gunwalker, this is sickeningly par for the course.

I badly want to hear from GOP candidates precisely how they intend to go through the DOJ with pliers and a blowtorch after the next election. Also, the rest of the Executive Branch. Whichever candidate has the better-detailed plan for reforming this decadent situation will likely garner the best support.

While not the only leprous portion of the Executive, ‘Nation of Cowards’ Holder has one of the most despicable records in the whole rogue’s gallery of this Administration, and merits a thorough shaming for the anti-American behavior that has occurred on his watch.

Mr. Holder, you are truly a piece of work.

Update: more at Ed Driscoll.

‘Why Eric Holder Must Go’

Retired FBI Agent Rick Hahn and Accuracy in Media director Cliff Kincaid will speak next Tuesday, June 28, at a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

Kincaid will “examine Communist Cuba’s sponsorship of anti-American terrorism and harboring of fugitives from justice and the need to keep Cuba on the official U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism. Evidence will also be presented of how Castro’s agents of influence continue subversive operations on American soil and how the Obama Administration’s expansion of travel to and from the communist island undermines American national security.”

Joining Kincaid and Hahn at the event will be Humberto Fontova, Joseph F. Connor and Larry Grathwohl. For more information visit USA Survival News.

SCOTUS To Decide To Hear VA ObamaCare Suit Today?

by Smitty (h/t Theo Spark)

Read the whole thing at the American Spectator:

. . .occasionally the justices receive a “petition for certiorari before judgment” asking them to consider the decision of some District Court before it has been reviewed by a Court of Appeals. Friday’s conference schedule includes consideration of one such petition, filed pursuant to Commonwealth of Virginia v. Sebelius.
The Virginia case was, of course, the first legal challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) in which the Department of Justice (DOJ) received a major defeat.

This is the next step in this Big Effing Deal moving though the public digestive system, so that its true aroma and nature can stand fully revealed.

In response to Cuccinelli’s petition, the DOJ filed a brief in opposition claiming that Virginia had provided no good reason for “short-circuiting” the appellate process. The Court does, of course, have practical and philosophical reasons not to meddle with the normal appeals process, but its procedural rules allow it to do so if a case is of “imperative public importance.” Ironically, the DOJ’s brief actually concedes that the constitutionality of the individual mandate “is undoubtedly an issue of great public importance.”

The good reason, of course, is that there is a sizable price tag for the steamer known as ObamaCare.
This is just another brick in the wall of reasons why Eric Holder should be fired and relegated to the graveyard shift at some convenience store, where the workload may be commensurate with his abilities.

Eric Holder Blames Congress for Blocking Trial for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed

Even when they do the right thing, the Obama administration refuses to take responsibility:

The Obama administration Monday abandoned its effort to put Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four other alleged plotters of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on trial in civilian courts, saying the accused terrorists will instead face military trials at Guantanamo Bay, in the prison President Barack Obama had promised would be closed more than a year ago.
The move, announced by Attorney General Eric Holder on the same day that Mr. Obama formally launched his bid for re-election, marked a significant reversal . . .
Mr. Holder blamed politics for the continued delay in bringing the defendants to justice.
“We were prepared to bring a powerful case against the 9/11 defendants in federal court,” he said, visibly frustrated and striking a defiant tone. “Unfortunately, members of Congress have intervened and imposed restrictions blocking the administration from bringing any Guantanamo detainees to trial in the United States.”

Daily Kos accuses Obama of “caving to fearmongers.” (Let’s hear it for fearmongers!) In an editorial, the New York Times condemns the move: “That retreat was a victory for Congressional pandering and an embarrassment for the Obama administration, which failed to stand up to it.” (Let’s hear it for pandering!)

The ACLU slams Obama for having “abandoned one of his major promises from 2008.” (Liberals have recently begun noticing this about a lot of Obama’s campaign promises.)

In his official statement, Holder accused his critics of using the KSM case for “settling ideological arguments or scoring political points.” Which is, of course, what Holder’s official statement was all about.

 Michelle Malkin has more background.

‘Break into a Prevent Defense for the Second Half and Try to Preserve a Tie’

That’s how Dan Collins at Piece of Work in Progress describes Eric Holder’s strategy for dealing with the incoming Republican majority in the House:

Despite the fact that the New Black Panthers were captured on video with weapons and fascist-style uniforms at the entrance to a polling place, Holder said: “There is no there, there.” Really? Heady stuff from the attorney general.
When asked about the fact that Holder’s Civil Rights Division is hostile to racially equal enforcement of the law from top to bottom, Holder again deploys another cliché, calling it a “made up controversy.” Holder doubled down: “All I have on my side with regard to that is the facts and the law.” . . .

Read the whole thing. A lot of shenanigans that have gone on during the first two years of the Obama administration will be investigated by House committees in the next two years. There’s a lot of that stuff that’s been ignored because when Pelosi’s Democrats were in charge, they refused to do any meaningful oversight of the executive branch.

Expect to hear lots of administration officials (and their apologists in the JournoList community) making lame excuses for various malfeasances and claiming that the GOP is engaged in “witch hunts,” etc. Keep your grains of salt handy.
