Right Online: Herman Cain Gets Candid

MINNEAPOLIS — About 15 bloggers got a rare glimpse at an angry Herman Cain, when the Republican presidential candidate’s temper flared briefly during an informal press conference Saturday.

The normally genial Atlanta businessman became angry when Evan McMorris-Santoro, a writer for the liberal blog Talking Points Memo, asked whether Cain would apply “special precautions” in hiring Muslims.

“If you’re trying to make me lose my cool, you’re almost succeeding,” Cain said, after McMorris-Santoro raised the question — one Cain had addressed at some length to begin the press conference — and when the TMP writer attempted to reiterate the question, Cain roared back: “I never said I would use any special precautions!”

Cain then apologized for having raised his voice. The exchange between Cain and McMorris-Santoro comes at the 13:15 mark of this video provided by conservative blogger Nice Deb:

For three months, liberals have criticized Cain for remarks he made at a March event in Iowa in response to a question from Scott Keyes of the Think Progress blog:

KEYES: You came under a bit of controversy this week for some of the comments made about Muslims in general. Would you be comfortable appointing a Muslim, either in your cabinet or as a federal judge?
CAIN: No, I will not. And here’s why. There is this creeping attempt, there is this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government. It does not belong in our government. This is what happened in Europe. And little by little, to try and be politically correct, they made this little change, they made this little change. And now they’ve got a social problem that they don’t know what to do with hardly.
The question that was asked that “raised some questions” and, as my grandfather said, “I does not care, I feel the way I feel.” I was asked, “what is the role of Islam in America?” I thought it was an odd question. I said the role of Islam in America is for those that believe in Islam to practice it and leave us alone. Just like Christianity. We have a First Amendment. And I get upset when the Muslims in this country, some of them, try to force their Sharia law onto the rest of us.

The question about Muslims was one of three points that Cain sought to clarify in his remarks at the beginning of his press conference. He also explained why he had been unwilling to sign a pledge offered by a pro-life group, saying that he is strongly pro-life, but had issues with the wording of the pledge; and he repeated his strong support for gun rights, which had been questioned by some Second Amendment activists. Taking questions from bloggers, Cain also discussed his disagreements with another 2012 GOP candidate, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, about the Federal Reserve system.

The press conference — with the candidate in shirtsleeves, sitting on a chair turned backward — followed Cain’s well-received speech at the fourth annual Right Online conference, hosted by Americans for Prosperity.

America is suffering “a severe deficiency of leaderships,” Cain said during the speech, which was interrupted several times by standing ovations.

“Small businesses . . . are hanging on for dear life,” Cain told the RightOnline crowd, assuring those struggling with the current recession: “Hold on . . . help is on the way.”

Egyptian Muslims Attack Christian Church, at Least 12 Reported Dead

Ah, the glorious “Arab spring”!

Egypt’s prime minister called for an emergency Cabinet meeting Sunday, a day after officials reported at least 12 people were killed in sectarian clashes outside a Cairo church.
Officials said the violence began over rumors that a Christian woman who converted to Islam was being held at the church against her will. . . .
Egyptian state TV said 10 people died and 232 were wounded in the violence Saturday. At least 190 were arrested. . . .
During clashes on Saturday, witnesses said an armed group of Muslims marched on Saint Mena Coptic Orthodox Church, one of the oldest churches in Egypt.
Witnesses said Muslims and Christians exchanged gunfire, sending people running for cover.
“With my own eyes I saw three people killed and dozens injured,” said Mina Adel, a Christian resident. “There’s no security here. There’s a big problem. People attacked us, and we have to protect ourselves.”

Here’s a video report from EuroNews:

I’m curious about the repeated use of the phrase “sectarian violence.” Wouldn’t it be more accurate to call this “Islamic terrorism”? Because that’s what it looks like to me.

Imams on a Plane

Apparently it’s not just Juan Williams who has this problem:

An airline is investigating the removal of two imams from a flight headed to North Carolina, ostensibly because passengers felt uncomfortable with their presence of the pair — both clad in Islamic attire.
The incident occurred Friday on an Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight from Tennessee to North Carolina and it involved Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul were wearing traditional Muslim dress, CNN affiliate WCNC reported.
The two — who hold high religious positions in the Muslim community — were headed to North Carolina for a conference on prejudice against Muslims, or Islamaphobia.

Dear Islamic clerics:
Maybe next time you should have one of your wives
drive you to the Islamaphobia conference. Just sayin’ . . .

In case you’re forgotten the famous moment that got Juan Williams fired from National Public Radio:

“When I get on a plane, I gotta tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb . . . I get worried. I get nervous.”

Some things you just can’t say out loud, no matter how true it may be.

Germany Thwarts Terror Plot

Eric Dondero at Libertarian Republican reports:

Early Friday morning Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA)in Dusseldorf and Bochum arrested three young men who had allegedly planned an attack with homemade bombs. They are attributed to the terrorist organization al-Qaida.
An attack had been imminent…

CNN has more. Speaking of Germany and the Religion of Peace™, you will recall the video of the courageous woman who stood up to Islamic radicals in Frankfurt. It has been revealed that her name is Heidi, she is a Christian, and she has been interviewed by a German blog:

Hatred is the wrong answer in any case. . . . We have to go back to our Judeo-Christian roots, which are a blessing for our country to this day.
We not only had two world wars. Germany is the land of poets and thinkers. It is the land of the Reformation. Here was the Bible of Marin Luther translated into German. Then the printing press was built. Many inventions, progress were caused by our people. We should remember this is important. I love my country. I love Germany. . . .
I know that we need to have a spiritual as well as a political response to Islam. The Christians in Germany and Europe need to wake up!

That’s a rough computer-assisted translation from the original German.

STUNNING VIDEO: German Woman Confronts Radical Muslims: ‘Never Again! I Am Ashamed! … Rise Up, Germany!’

Eric Dondero obtained and translated this video from Frankfurt, Germany, in which a woman encountered a group of Muslim men who were evidently engaged in hateful anti-Jewish rhetoric. She decided she had to speak out:

“Never again! Never again! I am ashamed that he is allowed to speak here. I feel ashamed! I am German, and I am so sorry that someone like him can stand here and speak like Hitler! I am so ashamed! Where is everybody? Why are people not standing up in this country of ours? Why are you all keeping your mouths shut? Do you want Germany to be like those countries from which they all came? Do you really want that? You have to speak out! . . . Germany, you have to rise! Rise up, Germany!”

Wow. Just freakin’ wow. This encounter apparently was connected to a Muslim rally in Frankfurt called “Islam, the Misunderstood Religion,” which was addressed by a Jamaican-Canadian imam who advocates sharia law, including the stoning of homosexuals. This video has also been posted at Atlas Shrugs, My Pet Jawa and Bare Naked Islam.

Israel, Islam and Endogamy

Is heredity destiny? At least one rabbi says so:

‘Gentile sperm leads to barbaric offspring’
Rabbi Dov Lior, a senior authority on Jewish law in the Religious Zionism movement, asserted recently that a Jewish woman should never get pregnant using sperm donated by a non-Jewish man –- even if it is the last option available.
According to Lior, a baby born through such an insemination will have the “negative genetic traits that characterize non-Jews.” . . .
Lior addressed the issue during a women’s health conference held recently at the Puah Institute, a fertility clinic. His conservative stance negated a ruling widely accepted by rabbis, which states that sperm donated by a non-Jew is preferable to that of an anonymous Jew, who might pose a genealogical risk.
“Sefer HaChinuch (a book of Jewish law) states that the character traits of the father pass on to the son,” he said in the lecture. “If the father in not Jewish, what character traits could he have? Traits of cruelty, of barbarism! These are not traits that characterize the people of Israel.”
Lior added identified Jews as merciful, shy and charitable – qualities that he claimed could be inherited. “A person born to Jewish parents, even if they weren’t raised on the Torah – there are things that are passed on (to him) in the blood, it’s genetic,” he explained. “If the father is a gentile, then the child is deprived of these things.
“I even read in books that sometimes the crime, the difficult traits, the bitterness – a child that comes from these traits, it’s no surprise that he won’t have the qualities that characterize the people of Israel,” he added.

You can go read the whole thing and feel free to argue with Rabbi Lior if you wish. However, to quote Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof: “Tradition!” Continue reading Israel, Islam and Endogamy →

Herman Cain Refuses to Be Intimidated by Political Correctness

When Think Progress accuses him of “bigotry,” you know that’s got to help him in the GOP primaries:

There is this creeping attempt, there is this attempt to gradually ease Sharia law and the Muslim faith into our government. It does not belong in our government. This is what happened in Europe. And little by little, to try and be politically correct, they made this little change, they made this little change. And now they’ve got a social problem that they don’t know what to do with hardly.

A statement that has the virtue of being absolutely true. I’m sure Mark Steyn, Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, Melanie Phillips and many others who have written about the Islamicization of Europe will applaud Cain’s courage in describing the problem so forthrightly.

UPDATE: The Underground Conservative:

When we have a circuit judge in Florida announcing that he will rule on a case using sharia law rather than state law or the U.S. Constitution, we have a problem.

All the more reason to join the grassroots online army at Citizens for Cain.

Death by Political Correctness

“The lights are going out all over Europe. Anyone who thinks or speaks individually is at risk. Freedom loving citizens who criticize Islam, or even merely suggest that there is a relationship between islam and crime or honour killing, must suffer and are threatened or criminalized. Those who speak the truth are in danger. … Everywhere the Orwellian thought police are at work, on the lookout for thought-crimes everywhere, casting the populace back within the confines where it is allowed to think.”
