The other day I asked my wife where our 19-year-old son Bob was.

The answer: Hiking up a mountain with an 85-pound pack.

He recently enlisted in the Army, having scored a near-maximum on the ASVAB test, and will report to boot camp in a few months — some kind of delayed-entry deal — as an aspiring candidate for the elite Special Forces. Already a Red Cross certified lifeguard, he is so fired-up that he’s voluntarily doing PT (physical training) in advance, which is why he hiked up the mountain with an 85-pound pack.

Because he is preparing to kill our nation’s enemies.

My wife is concerned for our son’s safety. No, dear — let our nation’s enemies worry about their own safety. Because he’s coming to kill them.

Do you want to be America’s enemy? Really?

Egyptian protesters scaled the walls of the U.S. embassy on Tuesday, tore down the American flag and burned it during a protest over what they said was a film being produced in the United States that insulted Prophet Mohammad. . . .
Once the U.S. flag was hauled down, some protesters tore it up and showed off pieces to television cameras. Others burned the remains outside the fortress-like embassy building in central Cairo. . . .
“This movie must be banned immediately and an apology should be made,” said 19-year-old Ismail Mahmoud, a member of the so-called “ultras” soccer supporters who played a big role in the uprising that brought down Hosni Mubarak last year.

Hey, Ismail: Do you think this flag-burning stuff is smart? You want to turn this into war? You want my son to come kill you?

I don’t know anything about this movie you and your “ultra” mob are all excited about, Ismail, but attacking a U.S. embassy isn’t the kind of thing that Americans take lightly, no matter what gutless apologies you get from the pussies at the State Department. And the same goes for that mob of violent savages in Benghazi:

Gunmen and security forces clashed at the U.S. consulate office in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi on Tuesday as the armed group protested over a film being produced in the United States, a security official said. . . .
“There are fierce clashes between the Libyan army and an armed militia outside the U.S. consulate,” Abdel-Monen Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya’s Supreme Security Committee, said.
“The U.S. consulate’s security guards inside the building fired at the militia as it was trying to enter and attack it.”

See, I’ve got skin in the game, so to speak, and this is what enrages me about the folly of appeasement, which only invites such attacks.

This administration’s idiotic policy blunders — and not some movie — are to blame for the signals of weakness that make these thugs think they can attack us with impunity.

Weakness inspires aggression, and war arises not from the power of our enemies, but from the foolishness of our leaders.

America would not be attacked if we were respected. We are not respected because our enemies believe we are weak and cowardly, and they believe this because our leaders don’t often enough remind them that our sons are strong and do not fear them.

The American people will be safer — and the entire world will be safer — when we have leaders who deserve the confidence of a nation willing to send its sons to war if need be, but who yet pray for peace. America’s strength is the best hope for peace.

The enemies of America are the enemies of peace, and they should be warned: My strong son — like the sons of so many thousands more Americans — is prepared to come kill you.

An American has been killed on the 11th anniversary of 9/11 as Islamist mobs attacked and burned the U.S. consulate in Libya. . . .
It is so far the only death from mob attacks in Libya and Egypt over Islamist anger at an alleged film in production by Coptic Christians focusing on Islam. The United States spent 9/11 apologizing for hurting Islamists feelings in Egypt which caused them to desecrate our flag and storm the walls of the U.S. embassy and our Libyan consulate.

Annihilate these savages. Hunt them down and kill them, and kill any of those other vicious fanatical bastards who try to stop us.

Obama’s ‘Bounce’ That Wasn’t

The media’s effort to manufacture the appearance of a decisive shift toward President Obama — not merely a predictable post-convention “bounce” in the polls — dismayed, discouraged and enraged Republicans who were not psychologically braced for it.

When people are attempting to manipulate your perceptions, your awareness of their effort is your first defense. Your second defense is your knowledge of the underlying reality. Long experience in following campaigns and polls would forewarn you that (a) all presidential campaigns get a poll “bounce” from their conventions, (b) the liberal media’s enthusiasm for Obama would make his “bounce” larger, and (c) none of this changes the underlying reality that the economy sucks.

Americans are not as stupid and gullible as the liberal media would like to think, and so the coordinated effort to turn Obama’s “bounce” into a decisive shift in the campaign has predictably failed:

Last week’s Democratic National Convention helped President Obama improve his standing against Republican Mitt Romney, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, but did little to reduce voter concern about his handling of the economy.
The survey shows that the race remains close among likely voters, with Obama at 49 percent and Romney at 48 percent, virtually unchanged from a poll taken just before the conventions.
But among a wider sample of all registered voters, Obama holds an apparent edge, topping Romney at 50 percent to 44 percent, and has clear advantages on important issues in the campaign when compared with his rival.

What does this tell you? Even after a week of the media’s giggly schoolgirl gushing during the Democrat convention, the most active and engaged citizens — “likely voters” — harbor such profound doubts about Obama’s economic policies that it is still a dead heat. Whatever actual edge Obama has over Romney occurs among the “low-information voters” who aren’t even sure they’ll vote.

Yesterday’s CNN poll that produced such indignation — showing Obama leading 52-46 — was a  statistical outlier, a dot far outside the main cluster of the scatter chart.

The idea that the electorate shifted a full six points in the span of a week (the same CNN poll had the race tied at 48% a week earlier) is absurd. People do not suddenly change their minds that way, merely because of speeches at a convention — especially a convention where the incumbent seeking re-election is less popular than President Blowjob.

This is not to say that media manipulation is irrelevant or harmless. John Nolte rips Politico today for its transparent effort to create an “Inevitability Narrative” for Obama:

[Politico editors John] Harris and [Jim] VandeHei and their team of shameless JournOlisters don’t give a damn about the jobless or the poor or the middle class or the concept of objective and honest reporting — all Harris and VandeHei and their team of shameless JournOlisters care about is dragging Their Precious One over the finish line.
Obama-hugger gets more attention than 368,000 people dropping out of the workforce.
Romney not mentioning the troops in his speech gets more attention that Obama blowing his speech entirely.
Democrats booing God and Israel at their convention gets 1/50th the attention Clint Eastwood received.
Ryan’s marathon brag gets more attention than middle class incomes falling.
Romney’s tax returns get more attention than the increase in poverty.
Ryan being branded a liar for telling the truth about that GM plant in Janesville gets more attention than manufacturing contracting three months in a row.
And over the next 57 days, the dishonest, corrupt Politico will only get worse.

The “news” at Politico is all about gloomy clouds for Romney, while the sun is always shining in Obamaville.

Do not be deceived, and do not be discouraged.

The economy still sucks.

Speaking of Terrorists …

. . . it’s the 11th anniversary of 9/11, and the Truthers are blaming Bush again. Jimmie Bise Jr. says he’ll take the Truthers to the woodshed tonight on his award-winning podcast, The Delivery:

While you’re eagerly anticipating that epic ass-whupping, let’s talk about another terrorist, a guy named Brett Kimberlin.

Maybe you’ve heard of him.

William J. Hoge has posted a link to attorney Dan Backer’s Aug. 16 “Motion to Compel Discovery of Defendant Kimberlin” in Aaron Walker’s lawsuit against Kimberlin, Neal Rauhauser and Ron Brynaert, and it’s a doozy, folks. I’m not generally a legal-document fanboy, but Backer really rips Kimberlin apart in this one.

Kimberlin is attempting to evade discovery — i.e., the process by which evidence and testimony are obtained in civil proceedings — and Backer notes one tactic on Page 6 of his motion (click here to read it on Scribd):

Defendant Kimberlin has arbitrarily selected a date [Dec. 15] approximately four months away in which he has stated he will answer the discovery with various defensive motions including sanctions against Counsel.
Defendant Kimberlin has stated he selected this date because: “I am cooperating with the FBI and other law enforcement officials regarding several issues involving your client and I believe that the resolution of those matters will have a bearing on this case.” . . .
Given Defendant Kimberlin’s history, Counsel takes him at his word that he has in fact contacted the various law enforcement agencies he asserts. His complaining of harassment to law enforcement, however, is unremarkable. Defendant Kimberlin has repeatedly attempted to have Plaintiff arrested . . .
Yet, absent an independent request by a law enforcement agency, Defendant Kimberlin’s complaining to law enforcement about Plaintiff is insufficient to delay discover in this case, which is already eight months old. The reasoning put forth by Defendant Kimberlin appears simply to be another delaying tactic to thwart discovery and, by extension, justice in this case.

What Backer is describing here is Kimberlin’s typical “accuse the accusers” tactics: Kimberlin has always — always — attempted to discredit his antagonists by accusing them of criminal wrongdoing. If you’ve read Mark Singer’s 1996 book Citizen K: The Deeply Weird American Journey of Brett Kimberlin, you know that Kimberlin has never — never — admitted guilt for the crimes of which he was convicted and sent to prison. Instead, he blames others, defaming the police, prosecutors, witnesses and judge in his 1981 trial. While in jail awaiting trial in the Speedway Bombing case, Brett Kimberlin plotted the murders of the prosecutor and a key witness against him:

Brett C. Kimberlin schemed to elude justice with a series of bizarre plots designed to murder, maim and rob his enemies, create havoc . . . and discredit the chief government prosecutor. . . .
On sheets of yellow legal pad, Kimberlin asked another inmate in the Marion County Jail to arrange for the murder of Bernard L. (Buddy) Pylitt, the former first assistant U.S. attorney who coordinated his prosecution.
The offer contained a list of 10 names, including a potential prosecution witness, Robert Scott Bixler. Some names had crosses next to them. These indicated those marked for murder, it was learned. . . .

Kimberlin remains unrepentant for his crimes, and the dishonesty of his denials has turned his entire existence into one vast lie, including his false accusations against Aaron Walker. And now, in his attempt to evade discovery in Walker’s lawsuit, Kimberlin claims that he is “cooperating with the FBI and other law enforcement officials”!

Hey, FBI: Why don’t you ask Brett about Julia Scyphers?

Julia Scyphers was the grandmother of a pre-teen girl Kimberlin was said to be “grooming.” She was shot dead at her home in 1978. Authorities told Joe Gelarden of the Indianapolis Star they believed the Speedway Bombings were a misguided effort by Kimberlin to distract police investigating the Scyphers murder. Her murder is still an open case, although an eyewitness identified a member of Kimberlin’s drug-smuggling gang as the trigger man.

Kimberlin is an inveterate and shameless liar, who was convicted of perjury before he graduated high school and who has been called a “top-flight con man.” It is an injustice and a disgrace that an infamous criminal like Kimberlin should be permitted to continue harassing such an innocent and honorable citizen of Virginia as Aaron Walker.

Pray that the courts of the Commonwealth will rectify that injustice.

UPDATE II: Linked by Bill Quick at Daily Pundit who laments “that 9/11 itself has become a sort of degraded political dog whistle used to ‘expose anti-Muslim bigots.'” Indeed, I was watching MSNBC today — I watch, so you don’t have to — where Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post seemed to be arguing that the worst consequence of 9/11 was that it unjustly cast suspicion on Muslims. The resemblance between this idiotic attitude and the “anti-anti-Communist” posture of some liberals during the Cold War is, I think, not entirely accidental.
