By the time you read this, I’ll be about halfway to Beallsville, Ohio, where Mitt Romney has the first of his three campaign stops today:

  • 12:30 p.m. ET: American Energy Corporation

  • 3:30 p.m. ET: Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl
    532 Mcintire Avenue
    Zanesville, Ohio
  • 7:00 p.m. ET: Ross County Court House
    2 North Paint Street
    Chillicothe, Ohio

Here’s the news about Romney’s afternoon stop from Hannah Sparling of the Zanesville Times Recorder:

ZANESVILLE — Bill Sullivan doesn’t know what flavor ice cream Mitt Romney fancies, but the owner of Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl plans to suggest Whitehouse — vanilla with cherries.
Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, will be at Tom’s at 3:30 p.m. today for a campaign rally. The event is free and open to the public, and doors will open at 2:30, representatives from the Romney campaign said.
Sullivan is expecting about 70 people inside Tom’s for the rally and at least 1,000 more standing outside, he said.
For people who can’t make it into the building, the Romney campaign is paying for ice cream to be served to them outdoors, he said.

The national press will find some way to turn this into Another Shocking Scandal: Why is “Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl” owned by a guy named Bill? And isn’t it true that this “free” ice cream is being paid for with money Romney stole from laid-off steel workers? Surely that stuff’s included in the 290-page MMFA super-PAC oppo-research dossier, right?

Speaking of shocking scandals, have Democrats started shreiking “racism” about this Romney ad yet?

Job one for Democrats: Lie your ass off in the interest of convincing seniors that Romney and Ryan are prepared to reduce Medicare benefits for everyone, regardless of age, instead of exempting people aged 55 and over as Ryan has promised. When that doesn’t work . . . shift to plan B by arguing that Romney and Ryan are prepared to reduce Medicare for the grandmas of the future, which could totally be avoided if we just keep reelecting Democrats and have the magical unicorn in Obama’s backyard fart out a few new trillion-dollar bills to keep the program solvent.

‘Gentleman’ Jim Moran: Collectivist Way Ahead Of Warren And Obama

Patrick Murray on FaceBook brings up an old chestnut, featuring my bloody-minded Congresstool in fine form. Here he anticipates the famous Elizabeth Warren diatribe, which also pre-figured #OccupyResoluteDesk’s “You didn’t build that” in Roanoke, VA.

Virginia led this country to independence. Jim Moran, living in the shadow of Mount Vernon, would cheerfully lead this country back to dependence. Emphasis mine in the transcript:

Q: Should the government protect peaceful citizens against people that want to use force to take their money?
Moran: Yes.
Q: Can you live well if other people can legally gang up on you and forcefully take your money?
Moran: No.
Q: Should the government redistribute its citizen’s wealth by forecefull taking money from some citizens through taxes in order to provide goods and services for others?
Moran: If that’s the quest you’re asking, the answer is: yes. Because . . . the people who are making the wealth in this country are making it as a result of the investment that has been put into the education of the workforce that produces their goods. . .the money that has been put into the roads and transit systems and rails, uh, that carry the commerce that produces much of their profit and the money from their taxes that has gone into the military that protects their wealth.
Q: Did you agree that the government should protect peaceful citizens against people that want to use force to take their money?
Moran: You’ve asked me that question.
Q: Did you agree that the government should protect them:
Moran: Yes.
Q: So, when the government is forcefully taking money from some citizens in order to give it to others. . .

Caught! CNN’s Soledad O’Brien Uses Liberal Blog TPM for Show-Prep

America’s Least Popular Cable-News Personality™ graduated from Harvard, but Soledad O’Brien is so ill-informed that, when she got flustered during an interview with Republican spokeswoman Barbara Comstock, she resorted to reading a Talking Points Memo blog post to find some decent . . . well, talking points.

Ali Akbar caught this while watching CNN, and if you look very close at the enlarged image you can see that it’s an e-mail — this was something sent to her. By whom? We don’t know, but the point is that rather than doing her own research on issues, Soledad is relying on people e-mailing her liberal blog posts.

“The Most Trusted Name in News”? She’s a disgrace.

Prof. William Jacobson plays the Sheldon Whitehouse card. Just leave a little room under the bus for ‘Gentleman’ Jim, eh?

You might think that only an abject moron could mistake the two, given the facts, but ease up: everybody looks the same, if you spend your day in a Lefty Media Gimp Suit. So, a little forbearance is in order.

Your NSFW potty mouth of the day, via AllahPundit on Twitter, is a faux Paul Ryan in the Onion:

This is one of the key aspects of Ryan: he’s young enough that, after 8 years of executive tutelage under Romney, he could potentially do where ManBearPig could not. Fleet up to CINC.

This is a crucial selling point. The GOP failed, in a major way, after Reagan, serving up an equestrian who was just another brick in our wall of Progressive Debt. Not to say that Bush41 was the worst, just that he failed utterly to advance the Reagan agenda.

And so we find ourselves out on Poo Pond, paddle-less. The two things we need are:

  1. vision, and
  2. time.

This is what’s so great about Ryan. So long as Ryan’s ticker doesn’t go south on him, he could be at the helm for significant reform.

Let that inform your efforts to support Romney/Ryan.

Is ‘Pansexual’ a Synonym for ‘Slut’?

“Any port in a storm”? “Love the one you’re with”? There are some people whose only requirement is friction, and I suppose it would be accurate to describe them as “pansexual,” although another suitable synonym would be “Texas Democrat“:

Democrat Mary Gonzalez was the first lesbian to openly serve in the Texas House of Representatives, and now she’s becoming the first “pansexual,” too.
“During the campaign if I had identified as pansexual, I would have overwhelmed everyone . . . Now that I’m out of the campaign, I’m completely much more able to define it,” she explained.

So what does it mean? Basically, she’s into freaks:

Although she came out as bisexual at age 21, Gonzalez said she has also dated transgender and “gender-queer” people, in addition to women. . .
“As I started to recognize the gender spectrum and dated along the gender spectrum, I was searching for words that connected to that reality, for words that embraced the spectrum. At the time I didn’t feel as if the term bisexual was encompassing of a gender spectrum that I was dating and attracted to.“

Whoever or whatever’s available in the bar at closing time. eh?

Her campaign motto is written on the bathroom wall of every honky-tonk in Texas: “For a good time call Mary Gonzalez.”

Iowa Flashback: August 2011

Paul Ryan is campaigning — and getting heckled — today in Iowa and I don’t know how many readers realize that today is the one-year anniversary of the Iowa GOP Straw Poll at Ames, which I covered under the headline, “Fear and Loathing at the Hilton Coliseum.”

In case you’ve forgotten, Michelle Bachmann won the straw poll, Ron Paul was second, Tim Pawlenty was a weak third, Rick Santorum was a surprising fourth and Herman Cain finished a disappointing fifth. Rick Perry was sixth at Ames; his write-in total actually exceeded Mitt Romney’s straw-poll vote. What reminded me of this anniversary was an e-mail I got today from an Iowa reader:

I’ve been following your articles since you interviewed me at Herman Cain’s stop at Denison, IA, in 2011. Keep up the good work.

Denison? Hmmm. That sounded familiar. So I quickly searched the archives and confirmed my memory — yes, that was the stop on Herman Cain’s bus tour with the overflow crowd at Crunk’s Cafe. And yes, I’d interviewed the lady afterwards:

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — Lois Vanderbur drove 30 miles from her home in Mapleton to attend Herman Cain’s event Monday in Denison. When the event was over, she went to eat at a nearby McDonald’s, where I overheard her tell her friend Rose Wolden: “Obama was an hour late for his speech and promised to raise taxes, and then the Dow fell 550 points.”
Mrs. Vanderbur, 68, is a very well-informed grandmother. When I asked her about the stock market tumble, she whipped out her iPhone, called up the latest numbers and told me that the Dow Jones Industrial Average had, in fact, closed at 10,809.85 for a one-day loss of 634.67 points. Forget all that stereotypical talk about Iowans being a bunch of ignorant hicks from flyover country. Their state’s most famous product is still corn — and the cornfields here are better measured by the square mile than by the acre — but the first-in-the-nation Iowa Caucuses have made politics at least the state’s second-most important export, and few Americans are more civic-minded than a politically active Iowan.
Mrs. Vanderbur and Mrs. Wolden were among more than 60 area residents who crowded into Cronk’s Café in downtown Denison for Cain’s mid-afternoon event, the second stop on his statewide “Common Sense Solutions” bus tour. . . .
