Best Mug Shot Ever

The phrase “Acme School of Law” was coined during the Brett Kimberlin saga to describe the tendency of a certain pro se plaintiff (and such of his associates/fanboys as the neckless wonder Bill Schmalfeldt) to pursue legal action that was ultimately harmful to their own interests, a la super genius Wile E. Coyote strapping on his Acme rocket roller skates in another futile effort to catch the elusive Roadrunner.
Something similar seems to have happened with the Democrats and their latest “get Trump” scheme, where they arranged for Fulton County, Georgia, district attorney Fani Willis to bring RICO charges against Trump and his aides and — oh, such orgasmic joy at CNN! — force Trump to have his mug shot taken at the local jail in Atlanta. Don Surber has the hilarious tale of how this scheme exploded in their faces:
Liberals gloated, then reality struck.
The Hill reported, “Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) shared a video of him laughing at the mugshot photo and saying, ‘We got you, and more to come . . . Clown, thug, crook, criminal.’” . . .
Shortly afterward, the congressman realized the error Democrats made.
He panicked and tweeted, ‘This mugshot is not what you think it is.
“It’s a jackpot for Trump who will use this image to raise MILLIONS of dollars from his cult — and the worst part is they are going to use it to win even more elections so they can change our laws to make it easier to steal our democracy.
“It’s a symbol of everything that is wrong with our country. It is a reminder of the deep divisions that exist, the hatred that is spewed, and hate is tolerated. It is a sign that our democracy is in danger.
“After today, the Republican Party will solidify their support around Trump and our fate will be sealed.”

The Neckbeard Menace: Pathetic Loser Ryan Palmeter’s Jacksonville Massacre
Posted on | August 27, 2023 | Comments Off on The Neckbeard Menace: Pathetic Loser Ryan Palmeter’s Jacksonville Massacre

After the news broke Saturday about a mass shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, it did not take long for officials to announce that the shooting was racially motivated, with the white gunman targeting black people — killing three — before shooting himself to death. In a press conference, Sheriff T.K. Waters held a press conference Saturday afternoon where he laid out the information:
Clay County Sheriff’s Office called JSO [Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office] at 11:39 a.m. Saturday letting them know the shooter was en route to Jacksonville, Waters said. At 1:18 p.m., the shooter called his father and told him to check his computer. The suspect’s family then called the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 1:53 p.m., Water said.
It was too late. The suspect had already walked into the store at 2161 Kings Road armed with a Glock and an AR-15 style rifle and wearing a tactical vest, Waters said at a 6:30 p.m. news conference Saturday. Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, who also attended the news conference said the shooter’s rifle had swastikas on it.
“He wanted to kill [n-word]” Waters said adding that he wants the community to know exactly what happened. “That’s the one and only time I’m going to use that word,” he said.
The sheriff said the shooter authored several manifestos. “One to his parents, one to the media, and one to federal agents,” Waters said. “Portions of these manifestos detail the shooter’s disgusting ideology of hate. Plainly put … he hated Black people.”
The names of the victims have not been released. Waters said they are two males and one female.
The shooter had past run-ins with Clay County authorities including a domestic call in 2016 in which he wasn’t arrested and a Baker Act in 2017. Waters said there is no information that the shooter acted as part of any larger group and he acted alone.
“I’m heartbroken,” Deegan said. “This is a community that has suffered again and again. We must do everything to dissuade this type of hate.”
Sherri Onks, FBI Special Agent in Charge of the Jacksonville Field Office, also attended the Saturday news conference. She said her office is investigating the shooting as a hate crime. . . .
“Hate crimes are always and will always remain a top priority for the FBI because they are not only an attack on a victim but they are meant to threaten and intimidate an entire community,” Onks said.
Now, there are several key points to work out here, but before we get to that, it’s important to mention that the sheriff did not name the shooter. Credit for identifying the gunman goes to WJAX-TV reporter Jake Stofan, who named the shooter as 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter.
Heavy police presence outside suspected of home of Dollar General shooter in Clay County. @jsosheriff says manifestos found making it clear the shooting was racially motivated. Says “this is a dark day in Jacksonville history”. @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/HdfG39vJtD
— Jake Stofan (@JakeStofan) August 26, 2023
According to @jsosheriff the gunman in the racially motivated mass shooting that took the lives of three Black Jacksonville residents had a history of mental health issues. Neighbors and sources identified him as Ryan Palmeter. Here’s what we know so far: https://t.co/BoxO7v4OUd
— Jake Stofan (@JakeStofan) August 27, 2023
Once the suspect’s name was reported, the always helpful Jessica McBride of Heavy.com took the ball and ran with it, giving the killer’s full name as Ryan Christopher Palmeter and identifying him as living at his parents home on Timbermill Lane, which is part of the Oakleaf Plantation development in Clay County, which sits between Jacksonville (to the northeast) and Starke (to the southwest). According to Wikipedia, Clay County has the third-highest median household income of any Florida county. McBride reported that Palmeter’s mother, age 62, is employed by the University of Florida, working in “billing compliance” for the university health system. Both parents are Democrats — the father is an outspoken “anti-MAGA” type on Twitter — but Ryan Palmeter registered as a Republican. However, most crucially:
- In 2016, there was some kind of “domestic” situation involving Ryan Palmeter, who was only 14 at the time, but this did not result in an arrest.
- A year later, in 2017 when Ryan was 15, he was involuntarily committed for psychiatric evaluation under the Baker Act.
- Ryan’s parents were sufficiently aware of their son’s potential for violence that they called 911 to warn police that he was heading to Jacksonville.
In other words, Ryan Palmeter was a known threat to public safety, with a documented history of mental health troubles. An important question is how he acquired his weapons, since someone with a Baker Act commitment on their record should not have been legally permitted to purchase firearms. It may be that, because that incident happened when Ryan was only 15, it was not entered into the relevant database.
Most importantly, however, Ryan Palmeter was a neckbeard, which has several definitions on Urban Dictionary, e.g.:
A man who feels entitled to love despite being extremely unattractive and undesirable to women. They tend to have terrible hygiene, extreme political opinions, and hatred towards women. Interchangable with incel.
Elsewhere in Urban Dictionary, there are references to “the average neckbeard . . . playing World of Warcraft in their mother’s basement.” In other words, they’re socially inept and spend more time playing video games than doing anything that might actually improve their lives.
One hates to resort to simplistic stereotypes — especially considering that stereotypes are usually a key component of any “ideology of hate” — but how many times do we have to see the same pattern repeated?
Elliot Rodger, Alek Minassian, Scott Beierle — the list could be extended much further, but the point is that socially inept and/or sexually frustrated young men of this type keep turning up as the perpetrators of violent atrocities like this senseless murder spree in Jacksonville. It is ridiculous to turn this incident into an excuse to denounce “hate” in a generic way, to use a broad-brush approach that converts one kook’s crime into an excuse to censor anyone who expresses disagreement with the Liberal Consensus Opinion on race (or “gender” or anything else).
While we have not yet seen Ryan Palmeter’s “manifesto,” let’s just ask: Were his actions rational? Supposing that he wanted to do something to advance the cause of “white supremacy,” exactly what did he accomplish by killing three random black people at a Dollar General store?
To put this death toll into perspective: So far this year, 394 people have been shot to death in Chicago, with about 80% of the victims being black. In other words, during the first eight months of this year, ordinary street crime in Chicago has killed about 100 times as many black people as did this pathetic neckbeard loser in Florida. Ryan Palmeter’s crime has to be seen as an act of despair, the suicidal misfit’s misguided attempt to make some sort of Grand Gesture in his final act of violence.
Hey, kids, let the old man tell you something: Don’t ever do this.
If you decide that your life is so ruined and hopeless that you want to commit suicide, well, that’s bad. But don’t kill a bunch of random people before killing yourself in an attempt to make your death “significant.” And for God’s sake, if you’re ever tempted to write a “manifesto,” stop to ask yourself why your life took such a wrong turn, and whether your problems are really all your own fault. Because guess what?
We’re all going to blame you, anyway. Fucking loser.

At this time last week, I was in the Las Vegas VA hospital with IV drips of Rocephin and Vancomycin going into my veins in a successful effort to exterminate the vile bacteria that were trying to kill me. I’m home now, feeling better, and have another four days of Levaquin ahead of me until I’m 100% again.
Turning to the subject of baseball, the Senators had a largely successful fortnight, taking series from the Twins and Cardinals before sweeping the Tribe at home in RFK; unfortunately, Friday night we went to Oakland to face the A’s and got stomped, losing all three games. So now we’re five games behind them in the AL West. Could be worse.
Shortly before the long weekend at the VA, I received Volume 11 of Klaus Schulze’s La Vie Electronique. I finally got around to ripping and listening to it this week, and it’s okay. The first disc has some operatic tracks on it that I don’t much care for, but the other two discs are more of the same electronic classical music I have come to love. I will note that the cover art for this volume reminds me of Klaus’ appearance in SAVAGE HENRY #27, a Matt Howarth comic book in which Henry and Klaus are hijacked into a pocket dimension by a spoiled rich kid who also forces Klaus (much to his displeasure) to appear in his long-haired hippie “space rock” getup from Trancefer. Spoiled rich kid hasn’t reckoned with Henry’s dimension-traveling skills or the power of music, though…

‘The Blind Side’ and Business Reality
Posted on | August 26, 2023 | Comments Off on ‘The Blind Side’ and Business Reality

Former NFL tackle Michael Oher filed a lawsuit against the Tuohy family, who helped him become a football standout, a story made famous in the 2009 film The Blind Side, for which Sandra Bullock won an Academy Award. Oher recently filed a lawsuit claiming that the Tuohys cheated him out of his rightful share of the proceeds of that film, a claim which the producers of the film have now rebutted — or, at least, they’ve tried to clarify the facts, contrary to misinformation promoted by the media.
According to the producers, the entire payment to the Tuohy family and Oher was less than $800,000. That’s all they made from this Academy Award-winning movie about their lives, and why? Because the movie is, in turn, based upon a book of the same title by Michael Lewis. So the producers paid Lewis for the rights to his book, and also contracted with Oher and the Lewis family, for what seems rather a small sum, all things considered. Should Oher have gotten more money for the movie rights? Perhaps, but it’s not as if the Tuohy family made a fortune off it:
The producers explained how the rights to Lewis’ book and associated rights contracts were negotiated by “Twentieth Century Fox and inherited by Alcon when the film was put in turnaround.” The film would go on to be released by Warner Bros. They also pointed out that in 2006, contracts and “the limitations of what college athletes were able to do and maintain eligibility, were very different than they are today.”
“The deal that was made by Fox for the Tuohys and Michael Oher’s life rights was consistent with the marketplace at that time for the rights of relatively unknown individuals. Therefore, it did not include significant payouts in the event of the film’s success,” they said.
“As a result, the notion that the Tuohys were paid millions of dollars by Alcon to the detriment of Michael Oher is false,” they added, before sharing how much Alcon paid the talent agency that represented the Tuohys and Oher.
The producers explain that, prior to the movie’s release, nobody thought it would be the smash hit it subsequently became, which in turn explains why it “was put in turnaround” — sold from one studio (Fox) to another (Warner Brothers) during the development process.
What’s most interesting to me in all this is that the original book The Blind Side wasn’t really about Michael Oher. His personal story — plucked out of poverty in Memphis to become a football star for suburban Briarcrest Christian School — was merely the narrative vehicle by which author Michael Lewis told the story of how changes in the game of football had impacted the value of offensive tackles:
The book is an examination of how offensive football strategy has evolved over the past three decades in large part due to linebacker Lawrence Taylor’s arrival in the 1980s and how this evolution has placed an increased importance on the role of the offensive left tackle. Most quarterbacks are right-handed and in order to throw, they stand with their left shoulder facing down field. Thus, they turn their backs to linebackers and other defenders pass rushing from the left side, creating a vulnerable “blind side” that the left tackle must protect. Taylor’s speed and power changed the role of outside linebacker to become a more attacking, aggressive position. This in turn caused teams to emphasize larger and more agile left tackles.
In other words, because extraordinary pass rushers like Lawrence Taylor had made it more difficult for offensive linemen to protect quarterbacks on passing plays, this created an incentive to find linemen — and particularly the left “blind side” tackle — with the rare combination of size and speed necessary to deal with the improvements on defense. The story Lewis was telling about football in the book The Blind Side was similar to what he’d done with baseball in his 2003 book Moneyball.
Lewis has a background in economics, and worked for Salomon Brothers before becoming an author. His specialty is as a storyteller explaining how economic incentives function — where there is an opportunity to make big money, people have a strong motive find a way to gain a competitive advantage. The real human lives affected by this, for better or worse, are at the heart of the storytelling that Lewis does with such success. As for Michael Oher, after playing college ball for Ole Miss, he was picked in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens, and signed a five-year contract reportedly worth $13.5 million. Three seasons later the Ravens won Super Bowl XLVII, and a year after that, Oher became a free agent, signing a four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans reportedly worth $20 million, but he lasted only one season in Tennessee before being released, and then was signed by the Carolina Panthers in 2015 on a reported $7 million two-year contract. His NFL career ended two years later, when Oher was 31.
It is impossible to know exactly how much Oher actually earned during his eight seasons in the NFL. The reported value of a contract usually includes incentives which a player may or may not make. However, it’s a safe guess that Oher’s total career earnings were somewhere above $20 million, which is a heckuva lot more than the Tuohy’s earned during the same timespan, so why is he suing them now? It makes no sense.
We can only speculate on Michael Oher’s motives in turning against the Tuohy family like this. If I had to guess, I’d imagine Oher’s experiencing some financial difficulty in his post-NFL life, and listened to some of his “friends” telling him he had been unfairly exploited. The explanation from the film producer makes that seem unlikely, and this sad chapter in Oher’s life is an unfortunate turn in what had been an inspiring story.
Crazy People Are Dangerous
Posted on | August 26, 2023 | Comments Off on Crazy People Are Dangerous

Everybody agrees Portia Odufuwa is dangerously crazy, and yet officials keep releasing her to terrorize others:
Portia Odufuwa, 39, was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the July 25, 2022 shooting at Dallas Love Field Airport.
Dallas County Judge Stephanie Huff issued her judgement Aug. 14, stating Odufuwa didn’t place any officers in imminent danger during the shooting but was insane when she fired several rounds into the air by the Southwest ticketing counter area that day. Police said witnesses heard Odufuwa rambling about marriage, incarceration and blowing up the airport before she began shooting.
Odufuwa was injured during the incident.
Veteran Dallas Police Department Officer Ronald Cronin shot Odufuwa in the legs after she ignored his commands to drop the gun. She survived and was taken to a Parkland hospital for treatment where she underwent surgery for her injuries.
Odufuwa, who has a history of being deemed incompetent to stand trial on prior criminal charges due to mental health issues, was initially charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.
Additionally, the gun she used in the shooting wasn’t registered to her, since she was prohibited from possessing a firearm since 2018. Odufuwa tried twice in 2016 to buy a firearm from a pawn shop, according to Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia, but was denied due to an outstanding traffic warrant in New Mexico.
Odufuwa was previously arrested in April 2019 in connection to a Bank of America robbery in Wylie. Police said she gave a note to the teller demanding money, then fled on foot but was eventually caught. Also in 2019, Odufuwa was arrested in connection to arson. A year later, she was taken in for a mental health evaluation, according to police.
Does the judge have no concern for public safety? Here’s video of the incident that terrorized air travelers last year:
So the judge rules that Odufuwa can’t be sent to prison because she was insane when she committed her crimes, but if she is non compos mentis — a Latin phrase meaning “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” — shouldn’t she be locked up in a psychiatric ward somewhere? Straitjacket, padded cell, daily Thorazine injections? She has proven herself to be a danger to the community often enough to justify such treatment.
