#OccupyResoluteDesk in Reno today, all ahead Full-Tilt Pander:
President Obama told the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno today that, under his administration, “for the first time ever” military families and returning vets are a priority. . . .
“And there are a number of Republicans in Congress who don’t want you to know that most of them voted for these cuts. Now they’re trying to wriggle out of what they agreed to,” Obama said. “Instead of making tough choices to reduce the deficit, they’d rather protect tax cuts for some of the wealthiest Americans, even if it risks big cuts in our military.”
“So let’s stop playing politics with our military. Let’s get serious and reduce our deficit and keep our military strong,” he said. “Let’s take some of the money that we’re saving because we’re not fighting in Iraq and because we’re winding down in Afghanistan — use half that money to pay down our deficit; let’s use half of it to do some nation-building here in the United States of America.”
Meanwhile. . .
Rasmussen Poll: Military Veterans Pick Romney Over Obama 59% To 35%
I don’t know any of the 1 in 3 are that have even the slightest regard for #OccupyResoluteDesk. Maybe General McChrystal has some private arrangement. Mr. President: WE DON”T BELIEVE YOU!
Less than four month to go, ye patriots. For example, The Lonely Conservative.
Update: linked at The Camp of the Saints:
The truth of the matter is: Barack Hussein Obama, like the good Leftist he is, despises everything the military stands for. Since Leftism began to form in the 18th Century, all of it’s craftsmen have railed against the organized armed forces of The West. They have only praised those forces that seek to subvert martial tradition and bring Chaos to the ranks. This, of course, is what they seek to do with every institution of The West. The Left especially despises the armed forces of the nations of the Free World because these soldiers tend strongly to be loyal to the idea of their countries than to any one man or group. It is towards the American Military, as you would expect, that the Left reserves it’s most intense hatred. No other martial force in the world is as loyal to a set of ideas, freedom and liberty, than the Armed Forces of The United States Of America. The Leftist seeks to take away freedom and destroy liberty, therefore, their greatest defenders must be destroyed. Lenin understood that such an end was best achieved from within so he encouraged fellow Communists to infiltrate the ranks and sow dissension — and it worked. The Imperial Russian Armed Forces collapsed. Obama and those who run him understand that in America they must be more subtle in their endeavors, so they have unleashed many mini-cancers within the U.S. Armed Forces. Small though they may be, these initiatives share the same collective goal: to destroy the spirit that has animated the American Military since Concord and Lexington.
In particular, Obama despises the fact that the military is sworn to the Constitution, not him.
Update: an excellent point from Bill Quick:
. . .a President can send the military into extended wars on no say-so other than his own. He can send the military out as domestic law enforcement entitites. The generals who answer to the leaders the President appoints, and the congress rubber-stamps, do the President’s bidding, not the constitution’s. In fact, the culture of the upper reaches of American military leadership seems to believe that it does answer to the President first, last, and always.
Yes, the National Security Act of 1947 begat the Military Industrial Complex. And the MIC got a leg over and begat the War Powers Resolution of 1973. The crucial point from the domestic vantage is the Posse Comitatus Act. The military officer corps has to be degraded much further before any President is going to give orders to U.S. troops on U.S. soil.
Romney Slams Obama: ‘An Upside-Down Philosophy That Does Not Comport with the American Experience’
Posted on | July 23, 2012 | 7 Comments
Interviewed by Larry Kudlow on CNBC, Mitt Romney slams Barack Obama’s now-infamous “you didn’t build that” remark:
KUDLOW: “Why do you think President Obama, what did he mean, if you’ve got a business, you didn’t build it, someone else made that happen? He claims it’s being taken out of context. What do you think it means? Do you think this is Obama anti-business, anti-entrepreneur? Or do you think maybe he has been treated unfairly?”
ROMNEY: “Well, just read the whole speech. I found the speech even more disconcerting than just that particular line. The context is worse than the quote. The context, he says, you know, you think you’ve been successful because you’re smart, but he says a lot of people are smart. You think you’ve been successful because you work hard, a lot of people work hard. This is an ideology which says hey, we’re all the same here, we ought to take from all and give to one another and that achievement, individual initiative and risk-taking and success are not to be rewarded as they have in the past. It’s a very strange and in some respects foreign to the American experience type of philosophy. We have always been a nation that has celebrated success of various kinds. The kid that gets the honor roll, the individual worker that gets a promotion, the person that gets a better job. And in fact, the person that builds a business. And by the way, if you have a business and you started it, you did build it. And you deserve credit for that. It was not built for you by government. And by the way, we pay for government. Government doesn’t come free. The people who begin enterprises, the people who work in enterprises, they’re the ones paying for government. So his whole philosophy is an upside-down philosophy that does not comport with the American experience. And if we want to get people working again — and that’s my priority — if we want to get people working again, we have to celebrate success and achievement and not demonize it and denigrate the people who have worked hard, who are smart, who have made the kinds of investments to build a brighter future.”
Unlike a certain Republican presidential candidate four years ago, Mitt’s not afraid to get tough with Obama.

No time for a transcript on this gem:
What’s fascinating about Moran’s remark is that it means Moran is a co-member of the No-Junk Brotherhood with Harry Reid. Maybe Reid’s inability to secure an NRA endorsement in 2010 is why Moran is allowed to mumble against them in public.
Patrick Murray for Congress
It’s time VA-8 traded Moran for a Congressman who is, you know, packin’ the gear.

British ‘Page Three’ Model Shocked to Find Herself in Colorado Killer’s Picture
Posted on | July 23, 2012 | 5 Comments
Before he went on the murder rampage that killed 12 people at a showing of the new Batman movie — and after he’d dyed his hair bright red like a comic-book villain — James Holmes posed for a self-portrait in front of a poster of British pinup girl Keeley Hazell.
“It’s chilling and has shocked and disgusted me,” Hazell, 25, told the British Sun tabloid, which had previously featured her as their “Page Three” girl. “The whole thing is so weird.”
Holmes posted the photo on his profile for the Adult Friend Finder site where he unsuccessfully sought kinky sex partners. Hazell, who now lives in Hollywood and made her own movie debut, told the Sun: “That picture is from a magazine shoot I did a long while ago and I can’t believe such a weirdo has it on his profile page. The whole thing is sick — but nothing to what the people of Aurora must be going through. My heart goes out to them.” (Hat-tip: American Power.)
Holmes made his first courtroom appearance Monday, appearing dazed at a brief preliminary hearing before Arapahoe County District Court Judge William B. Sylvester, Jason Sickles of Yahoo News reported: “[Holmes’s] brow furrowed. His head bobbed. His eyes opened and closed often. . . . He did not speak.” (Hat-tip: Memeorandum.)
At the popular Hot Air blog, Mary Katharine Ham posted brief memorials to the 12 people killed in Friday’s rampage in Aurora, Colorado: Jonathan Blunk, Alexander Boik, Jesse Childress, Gordon Cowden, Jessica Ghawi, John Larimer, Matt McQuinn, Micayla Medek, Veronica Moser, Alex Sullivan, Alex Teves and Rebecca Wingo.

Doug Ross compiled a list ranking the Top 150 Conservative Web Sites and, in the first version he posted, TheOtherMcCain.com was ranked #34 — ahead of such powerhouses as Ace of Spades HQ, American Thinker and Twitchy. Both Paul Lemmen and Evil Blogger Lady put up blog posts congratulating us on the strong showing, but I knew that something was clearly wrong with the ranking.
Bigger than Ace? No freaking way.
Doug updated and explained that, in compiling the list — based on Alexa traffic rankings — he accidentally looked at the wrong data set, and in the corrected ranking, we’re at #67, whereas Twitchy is #29 and Ace is #32. So it was good that I resisted the temptation to think I’d suddenly pole-vaulted to über-blogger status.
Frankly, I have profound skepticism even about the revised list: Does our traffic actually outrank, inter alia, AnnCoulter.com, Hannity.com and the Media Research Center. I don’t think so.
Traffic has been good lately, but not that good.
