Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: ‘You Know Who Likes Killing Babies? Jews Do!’

The headline is not a direct quote, but this is:

“[T]he president has an incredible record of support and advocacy on the issues, domestically, that Jews care about — fighting, for example, to make sure that women have the right to make their own reproductive choices . . .”

OK, so why does the Democratic National Committee chairwoman insist that “reproductive choice” is such an important issue that “Jews care about,” in a way that gentiles do not?

Are there no pro-life Jews? Is there some specific ethnic, religious, or cultural reason why Jews are devoted to keeping abortion legal?

Perhaps someone could ask her a few questions like this, because otherwise people would be compelled to guess that what Debbie Wasserman-Schultz actually meant to say is (a) most Jews vote Democrat, and (b) Democrats are the Party of Abortion.

Any other interpretation could be anti-Semitic, causing people to think that this bloody horror was inflicted upon our nation specifically by Jews.

Not me, of course. I blame the Episcopalians.

UPDATE: I was concerned this post might push the “deliberately provocative headline” thing a bit too far, but I’m reassured by Yuval Levin’s horror at DWS’s claim that abortion is a Jewish value:

Politicians used to insult Jewish voters by implying that all they cared about was Israel. Surely this is much worse.

Meanwhile, in the comments below, an observant Jewish reader points out that, quite logically, the pro-abortion enthusiasm of liberal Jews has had the effect of making conservative Jews the fastest-growing segment of the Jewish population. The same is true among Protestants, I would add. The future belongs to the fertile.

Florida: The Crazy State

The competition for Craziest State in the Union has always been fierce. It has been said that South Carolina is too small to be a republic, but too large to be a lunatic asylum. Yet in recent decades, California has been recognized as foremost in sheer madness, rivaled only by Louisiana. Now, however, California must yield the crown:

For the first time, Florida’s Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll is defending herself publicly about being accused of being involved in a sex scandal.
Lt. Governor Carroll made the comments Saturday in Orange Park, at the opening of a campaign office for Mitt Romney.
Carletha Cole claims she walked in on a sexual encounter between Carroll and Carroll’s travel aide, Beatriz Ramos. Cole worked as an administrative assistant to Carroll. Cole is a grandmother and a minister.
Carroll says, “The problem is that when you have these accusations that come out, it’s not just one person you’re attacking. It’s an entire family. My husband doesn’t want to hear that. He knows the type of woman I am. I mean, my kids know the type of woman I am. For twenty-nine years – I’m the one that’s married for twenty-nine years. The accuser is the one that’s been single for a long time. So usually black women that look like me don’t engage in relationships like that.”

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? As I understand this: Cole accuses Carroll of engaging in a lesbian affair with her female assistant, and Carroll’s defense is “usually black women that look like me don’t engage in relationships like that”? What is that supposed to mean?

What does the fact that Carroll is black — or what she looks like — have to do with whether or not she did what she was accused of doing?

Perhaps “Witness 9” has some relevant testimony, because apparently the word “relevant” is pretty damned elastic in Florida.

UPDATE: As longtime readers probably expected, I have spent a good 15 or 20 minutes trying to find a photo of Beatriz Ramos, guessing that she’s probably young and attractive. But my efforts to lock down the “Beatriz Ramos bikini photo” Google-bomb have so far produced no results, because it seems “Beatriz Ramos” is a far more common name than you might expect.

As to what Carroll meant by “black women that look like me,” I think the lieutenant-governor meant, “very attractive black women,” because she is, after all, a Republican, unlike such ugly (and therefore potentially lesbian) black women as Maxine Waters, Corrine Brown or other female members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Maybe that’s what she meant. I’m just guessing.

I’m also just guessing that Lt. Gov. Carroll’s accuser is one of those disgruntled incompetent types who are a nuisance in any workplace, and who like to threaten lawsuits when they finally screw up bad enough to get fired. OK, maybe that’s more than just a guess:

Cole, who was arrested last October on charges of illegally taping a conversation with the Republican lieutenant governor’s chief of staff, contends Ramos set her trash can on fire after they had an argument. . . .
Cole, who was fired from her job as a senior program analyst last September about a month before she was arrested, also contends Ramos, a special assistant to the lieutenant governor, was living at Carroll’s home. Cole claims that at one point she was ordered to find adjoining hotel rooms for Carroll and Ramos when they traveled.

Ah, yes: The lieutenant governor wants a hotel room that adjoins her travel aide’s hotel room, ergo, they’re having a lesbian affair. The disgruntled incompetent logic is impeccable!

Anybody else guessing that Cole got hired her “senior program analyst” job during a previous Democratic administration in Tallahassee? Anybody else guessing that Cole’s lawyer is a Democrat? Because I’m detecting a distinct aroma about this alleged “sex scandal.”

Smells kinda like . . . Chicago. IYKWIMAITYD.

Satan Loves the Media ‘Veepstakes’

There is nothing — nothing — in politics that is less useful than pundits sitting around blathering about who the presidential nominee is going to choose as his running mate. Grant that most pundit blather about politics is fairly useless, and yet there is still a special place in Hell reserved for people who waste our valuable time playing the “veepstakes” game.

Nia-Malika Henderson of the Washington Post earns herself another million years of excrutiating torment in the afterlife for “Bobby Jindal’s Stock on the Rise,” the infernal hosts will inflict unimaginable pain on Jeff Zeleny of the New York Times for “Pawlenty Looked at as Romney Running Mate,” and Beelzebub is stockpiling extra brimstone in anticipation of the infinite horrors Alexander Bolton of The Hill has earned in recompense for imposing “John Thune rising: GOP senator on Romney’s veepstakes and his future” on mankind.

If you are tempted to click one of those links and actually read one of those worthless wastes of pixels, I urge you to resist that temptation. Reading “veepstakes” articles will destroy your soul. They are Satan’s snares, as are all cable-news veepstakes roundtable discussions, and the pundits who participate in them are all doomed to burn in the same circle of Hell as Tom Eagleton and Nelson Rockefeller.

Mitt Romney’s “Restore Our Future” super-PAC raised a record $20 million in June, yet another signal that Team Obama’s hoped-for financial advantage in the 2012 campaign has failed to materialize.

The latest flurry of Democrat attacks on Romney’s private-sector experience — the frantic screams of “Bain! Bain! Bain!” — must be seen for what they are, evidence of fear-driven desperation. And even CNN is now compelled to admit the truth:

Professor Pervo’s Subsidized Wanking Class and the Higher Education Bubble

The people pushing “comprehensive sexuality education” in your child’s school see nothing amiss in Tom Kubistant’s pedagogical methodology:

A college instructor at Western Nevada College is accused of requiring students to masturbate and publicly reveal personal sex-fantasies in order to pass a “human sexuality” class, according to a federal complaint filed in U.S. District Court last month.
Tom Kubistant, the instructor, allegedly forced freshman and late-high school students to “openly discuss their orgasms” and masturbate, according to the federal complaint, filed by former Western Nevada College student and aspiring social worker Karen Royce, 60.
Kubistant “locked the classroom door” and played a “90-minute movie… depicting females engaging in sex and having an orgasm,” Royce’s complaint says.
He also allegedly told the class, which included high school students taking the class for college credit, he would “increase their sexual urges to such a height that they won’t be able to think about anything other than sex.”
Kubistant “announced to the entire class they must masturbate if they intended to pass the class,” according to the complaint.

Kubistant’s course, entitled “Human Sexuality,” was offered by the Psychology Department at Western Nevada College and, according to the lawsuit, the “course catalog identified the class as having high transferability and relevant as to the areas of social sciences, education and humanities and public service.” The WNC catalog said the objectives of Kubistant’s class “have been aligned with the recommended outcomes from the American Psychological Association and the WNC requirements for freshmen level general education courses.”

Western Nevada College receives federal education funds, and students can use federal grants or loans to pay their tuition. Is Kubistant’s class the kind of “education” that you, as a taxpayer, consider a worthwhile expenditure of your hard-earned money? Are masturbation and pornography so vital to American society that they must be subsidized by taxpayers and taught by such “expert” instructors as Tom Kubistant?

Without regard to any social-conservative, religious, personal or moral attitudes toward the content of Kubistant’s class, isn’t there a limited-government libertarian argument to be made against this use of taxpayer dollars? Can you say, Higher Education Bubble?

‘They’re Demoralized as Hell!’

Jammie Wearing Fools recently pointed out that the June fundraising numbers inspired a sense of panic at Obama HQ, with one anonymous Democrat saying, “If people are freaked out, I think they should be freaked out.” And you can expect the Democrat freakout to intensify next Friday when we get the official FEC reports for June.

Why? Because, as one Republican source mentioned to me last week, while Team Obama admitted they got out-raised by $35 million in June, they didn’t report their cash-on-hand total. Hint, hint.

What my GOP source was suggesting was that the Obama campaign’s burn rate is already so high — their staff overhead is enormous, and they’ve been pouring on the attack ads in battleground states — that they’ve substantially depleted the cash advantage they enjoyed in May, when they ended the month with more than $100 million cash on hand (compared to a mere $17 million for Romney, as I’ve previously explained). The Campaign to Re-Elect the SCOAMF had counted on that financial cushion as their ace in the hole. If nothing else worked, they could bury Romney in attack ads down the home stretch in October, but it’s only July and if the Obama campaign is already burning through that cash at an unsustaintable pace . . .

Well, there’s a good reason they’re “freaked out,” you see.

If the polls start shifting toward Romney now, the scenes inside Obama HQ in Chicago will be Hitler-in-the-bunker Downfall parody stuff.

Furthermore, with indications the economy is getting worse instead of better, the Obama campaign’s increasingly desperate attempt to smear Romney as a latter-day robber baron shows that they’ve switched their message from “Hope and Change” to “Fear and Loathing.”

Obama has already “shot his wad,” as Jennifer Rubin puts it, and the incessant rants about Bain Capital and outsourcing don’t seem to have moved the polls significantly in Obama’s direction. Democrats appear to be apporaching that point at which Pete Da Tech Guy likes to invoke the famous words of General Sheridan yelled to his cavalry: “Ride right through them — they’re demoralized as hell!”

(Pete knows what happens to demoralized Democrats, because he was there the night Republican Scott Brown won Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat.)

What kind of crazytalk are Democrats hearing from the voices in their heads? James Carville and Stanley Greenberg proclaim that the middle class is in the throes of a “humanitarian crisis,” as if suburban America were a sort of domestic Darfur.

As crazy as this kind of “crisis” talk sounds, the fact that Democrats are taking the Carville-Greenberg analysis seriously shows just how desperate Democrats have become in their hunt to find something — anything — to distract from Obama’s policy failures. And you know that the Carville-Greenberg analysis is being taken serious because Obama just spent several days on the campaign trail giving speeches in which he chattered incessantly about the middle-class.

The phrase “middle-class families” appeared four times in Obama’s speech Saturday in Centreville, Virginia, as the president contrasted these virtuous hard-working folks with those evil greedy rich people who vote Republican:

[Republicans are] proposing, on top of continuing all the Bush tax cuts even for the wealthiest Americans, to also then have another $5 trillion in tax cuts, 80 percent of which would go to the wealthiest Americans.

Uh . . . one slight problem there, Chief: Centreville isn’t exactly the kind of Rust Belt blue-collar town where you’ll score a lot of political points trashing “the wealthiest Americans.” Badmouthing rich people won’t get you too far in Fairfax County, which just happens to be the third richest county in America, with a median annual household income of $105,416.

One other problem, Chief: Insofar as the “middle-class families” in Fairfax County have a problem, they blame your policies:

Tami Hurley stood beside Union Mill Road waving a sign in the hot mid-summer sun Saturday afternoon, awaiting President Obama’s arrival at Centreville High School. She was not alone. The Fairfax County businesswoman was one of more than 200 protesters who responded to the announcement of an “emergency rally” sent out by the Northern Virginia Tea Party. On her American flag T-shirt, Hurley displayed a pin that concisely summarized her situation in the Obama era: “Officially Screwed: Small Business Owner.” She explained that her family runs a heating and air-conditioning business that employs 14 people, a business that the Democrat’s administration seems determined to destroy.
“They’re going to increase all of our prices,” Hurley said, explaining that regulations enacted recently by the Environmental Protection Agency mandated a 40 percent decrease in the manufacture of R22, a refrigerant commonly used in air-conditioning systems. “Our price doubled in January, and we have to pass that along to our customers.”
The EPA’s mandate is part of Obama’s environmental agenda, enforcing an international anti-global-warming treaty called the Montreal Protocol. Hurley sees the president pushing a different sort of “climate change,” creating a climate that is hostile to free enterprise. “Obamacare is going to really hurt us, as well,” Hurley said, expressing a widespread concern among small business owners that the president’s health care program will impose costly mandates, decrease the quality of treatment, and require massive new taxes to fund it. Hurley pointed out that one of her young sons has epilepsy. Her son was also among the crowd of protesters who turned out Saturday in Centreville, waving a hand-lettered sign that said, “Obama = No Hope.”
Hostility to small business owners is unmistakably a matter of policy for the Obama administration, and Hurley is not deceived by the president’s rhetorical attempts to portray himself as a champion of the middle class. . . .
