Contemptible Attorney General Found In Contempt Of Congress

Republican House leaders are finally holding Attorney General Eric Holder accountable for some of his actions. Representative Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, drafted a 48-page contempt of Congress citation against him. The charge? Repeatedly obstructing and slowing the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious.
This means the top House leaders are on board. The top committee officials met for most of the day in Speaker John Boehner’s office and he gave them permission to move ahead. Finally!
Three cheers for the House GOP for getting to where they should have been, oh, months ago.
Update: Or not. That’s OK, Eric: you can rest assured that most Americans have less respect for your record than a urinal cake.
I Love The Sound Of Citizenship Arguments In The Morning–No I Don’t

Update: Human Events is not Town Hall.
Now that Mitt Romney has become the presumptive Republican nominee, there is speculation that the junior senator from Florida will be his running mate. Marco Rubio’s parents were from Cuba and did not become U.S. citizens until he was four years old. Voices from the fringe are claiming that this means Rubio is not eligible – and they’re wrong.
Marco Rubio was born is Miami, Florida. He is, therefore, a natural born citizen of the United States. Per the Constitution, the citizenship status of his parents (or grandparents or anyone but himself) is irrelevant.
Read all of Zak’s article for his usual excellent historical treatment, recalling long-forgotten facts. As far as Rubio himself goes, I haven’t heard too much about this line of argument:
- It smacks of some of the fringier Birther arguments against #OccupyResoluteDesk.
- It’s can’t be used against Rubio by the Left, except to try to re-inflate the Birther bubble. Come to think of it, the Left could do that as a distraction from ObamaNomics.
- Except that they have already linked fretting about birth to raaaaacism. Given the rolling disaster that is the George Zimmerman case, I should think that throwing the Latino vote under the bus would be stupid.
Then again, what do I know? I’m one of those whackos that still thinks balancing a budget is a moral and ethical imperative.
Rock and Roll, and Other Subjects About Which Dan Collins Knows Nothing

Granted, this could be a very long post, but I just happened to notice Dan blathering on about some artsy New Wave poseurs and felt a need to point out the Neutral Objective Fact that no genuinely great rock and roll music was recorded after Sept. 25, 1980, the day John Bonham died.
How awesome was Led Zeppelin? For the most part, the lyrics were incomprehensible gibberish. More often than not, Robert Plant sang flat.
And nobody f–kin’ cared, because it was so f–kin’ awesome. Read more
Following Christ Is Not Being Pandered To By The Government

Tim Stanley:
American liberals have a schizophrenic view of God. When it comes to lifestyle issues, they think church and state should be separate. But when it comes to welfare, federal largesse morphs into Christian duty.
I disagree with Stanley. American liberals view the state as a God-like parent.
As with any parent, everybody, Left or Right, wishes to rebel, and make demands:
“I WANT A PONY”

Of course, not everyone can have a pony–where would we pasture them? But the government systemically does equally absurd things, in the name of keeping the populace stuck in Peter Pan mode.
And that is the problem with anybody claiming to follow Christ and be in favor of the nanny state: if Christianity is keeping people on the milk and honey, and not graduating them to the meat and potatoes of life, then it is a false expression.
I Corinthians 3:1-2
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
First Person Plural: The John Edwards Scandal and America’s Discredited Elite
Posted on | April 27, 2012 | 13 Comments
The pronoun obtrudes in this item on the John Edwards trial:
What did Young, or any of us, see in Edwards? What did Edwards see in Hunter, for whom he risked his marriage, despite telling Young, according to his testimony yesterday, “that she was ‘a crazy slut,’ and there was a ‘one-in-three chance’ that it was his child.” In quoting that, I don’t mean to imply that his characterization was in any sense fair; but it does say a good deal about, first, a view of women, and, second, about the assumption that the view is widely enough shared that one would talk that way in a bid for support. Rielle Hunter may not be the most sympathetic figure . . . but that adds no points to Edwards’s column. It only makes the story more unpleasant.
Who is “us,” these people who saw something in Edwards? Members of the Council on Foreign Relations? Summa cum laude graduates of Harvard? Just a couple of items on Amy Davidson’s bio there.
Populism is a political sentiment inspired by the belief that the elites have screwed things up, because they don’t actually know what they’re doing. When a society begins to fail — and America is now nearly a half-century into the failure that began in the mid-1960s — the elites are often the last to recognize or acknowledge what has gone wrong.
Certainly, it would never occur to Amy Davidson to use the first-person plural to describe those who are most responsible for what’s gone wrong in America. Yet if she ever saw John Edwards as anything other than a phony — a slick-talking hustler — hasn’t her judgment been thoroughly discredited? And if she had surrounded herself with other such fools (the “us” of whom she speaks, none of whom apparently detected Edwards’s fundamental bogusness) doesn’t this discredit not only Davidson, but also the entire elite class to which she belongs? Michael Beisecker’s Associated Press story about Thursday’s proceedings in the federal corruption trial of former presidential candidate John Edwards was 504 words long.
“Democrat” was not one of those words.
