That’s from Tommy Christopher at Mediaite, who adds:

The media, meanwhile, ought to abandon its fetish foe false objectivity, and recognize the facts. All parties agree the President gave the Speaker sufficient notice, and I cannot think of another president in history whom the media would suggest should have been preempted by a routine political debate, certainly not in a time of national crisis. The media is complicit in the insult through its failure to recognize this.

While I’m not familiar with Tommy’s term “fetish foe false objectivity,” I certainly do not believe that journalists must be strictly neutral in every political conflict. However, a tendency toward emotional hysteria is not generally desireable in this line of work.

Tommy: We are talking about the scheduling of a speech.

As for the “time of national crisis,” it hasn’t even impinged on the president’s golf schedule. The matter of postponing his World-Historic Address to a Joint Session of Congress — “Four score and seven revised-downward jobs reports ago . . .” — from Wednesday to Thursday hardly seems the kind of “unprecedent insult” that would require the resignation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Drew M. at AOSHQ reacts with an old Maxwell Smart line to the “unexpectedly” news about August unemployment, as live-blogged this morning by the Wall Street Journal‘s Mark Gongloff:

The consensus [expectation was] for 70,000 new payroll jobs and a 9.1% unemployment rate. . . .Payrolls were [unchanged]! Zero jobs. Unemployment came in at 9.1%. . . . July payroll revised down to 85,000 from 117,000. Also not good. . . . Average hourly earnings fell 0.1% — that’s not good. Expectations were for an increase of 0.2%. . . . The workweek fell to 34.2 hours from 34.3 hours. That’s a sign of a greater slowdown in activity than economists expected.

(Aside: Live-blogging the release of an economic report? Welcome to the future! ) President Obama has now gained a historic distinction:

The US economy created no jobs and the unemployment rate held steadily higher at 9.1 percent in August, fueling concerns that the US is heading for another recession. It was the first time since World War II that the economy had a net zero jobs created for a month.

It’s official: Jimmy Carter is now the second-worst president in history.

Radtke: Red State’s Erick Erickson Must ‘Set the Record Straight’ After Making ‘Reprehensible’ Accusations Against Her

Conservative blogger Erick Erickson has “propagated a lie” against Virginia Senate candidate Jamie Radtke, she said, insisting that the Red State managing editor must make a “full retraction” and “set the record straight.”

“Erick Erickson has created this situation, where he’s called me a drunk and a liar,” Radtke told me in an exclusive interview, “and he has not done a retraction – a prominent, full retraction, admitting what he’s done and setting the record straight in an honorable way.”

Radtke’s attorney has threatened legal action against Red State, a division of Eagle Publishing, unless Erickson retracts charges that Radtke was “a drunk, rambling idiot” during a conference speech and also retracts unspecified “other false and defamatory statements” Erickson made about her.

A furious online controversy erupted last week when Erickson, in response to a critical article in Politico, lashed out at Radtke. He called her speech at last month’s Red State Gathering an “act of self destruction” and published anonymous accusations that Radtke – a Christian home-schooling mother of three – was drunk during the speech.

It was “absolutely repulsive” for Erickson to have published such accusations, Radtke said, when in fact her speech was well received and praised immediately afterwards. She cited complimentary remarks by the wife of Red State contributor Ben Howe and from documentary film producer Stephen K. Bannon, whom she introduced at the event. Radtke said she understood that some in the audience may not have expected her speech to last 20 minutes, but said that was the time Erickson told her to speak.

Erickson had endorsed Radtke in January but an Aug. 24 Politico column by Ben Smith reported that Erickson was pressured to back away from that endorsement by Eagle executives because of their friendships with Radtke’s GOP primary rival, former Sen. George Allen.

In the telephone interview (see transcript below), Radtke said she believes Erickson’s accusations against her were an attempt to divert attention from the substance of that article: “So I think the issue is that he was confronted by Politico about [backing away from his earlier endorsement] and he didn’t tell the truth and now this is a dodge game for him: ‘So I don’t have to deal with the real story, let’s totally defame Jamie and throw her under the bus and say complete lies about her so I don’t have to deal with the real situation.’ And it’s absolutely reprehensible.” Read more

We see him prowling the streets . . . in his sports car and abducting young girls in school uniforms — including one still wearing braces — and taking them back to his bedroom to drug and rape them. He rapes another woman on her wedding day while she is wearing her wedding dress; a few minutes later, he is annoyed when she throws herself off a balcony. . . . ‘Everything I want, I just take for myself,’ he says.”

Now, some may say this guy wasn’t a typical liberal, but he really hated America, and he especially hated President George W. Bush.

The feeling was kinda mutual.

‘The Chance to Make a Difference’ or the Chance to Make $165,000 a Year?

Why do kids go to law school?

Harold Krent, dean and professor at Chicago-Kent College of Law, said large law firms hire 50 percent fewer graduates than four years ago. That makes a huge difference for students who hope to a get a “$165,000 payday,” he said.
But, Krent said . . . many students go to law school not for that $165,000 payday, but for the chance to make a difference. . . .
“Many people do wonderfully creative and interesting things with a law degree other than practice law, including being a journalist or being an investor or being a counselor.”

Don’t worry if you’re at a loss for words. LawProf has sarcasm to spare:

What would be a good analogy to spending, at this particular moment in economic history, $55,000 a year to go to a second-tier law school to prepare for a career in, of all things, journalism? Getting a PhD in Marxist-Leninist political theory in order to become a travel agent? Acquiring a doctorate in phrenology on the road to becoming a blacksmith? The mind reels . . .

My son-in-law just started law school and specifically plans to become a criminal defense attorney, which isn’t an especially lucrative legal specialty, unless you’re working for the Democratic National Committee or some other organized crime racket.

But the point is, he plans to become a practicing attorney, a career goal he has had in mind since he was a boy, as opposed to the apparent motive of some kids who go to law school because . . . Well, because they finished college and didn’t want to go to work.

You don’t need a law degree to “make a difference.” Hitler didn’t go to law school and look what a difference he made!

Sounds Like An Expression Of Contempt For Separation Of Powers, To Me

Isn’t this an admission Obama has not been doing all he can for jobs?, asks Prof. Jacobson of BHO’s direction:

Obama directed several federal agencies to identify “high-impact, job-creating infrastructure projects” that can be expedited now, without congressional approval.

Doesn’t this go beyond the usual “What if a Bush had said that?”

It may sound like a reactionary take, but, given the last two years of creepy hijinks from this Administration, one is left to wonder where this is all going.

Furthermore, just what is the Administration going to do that won’t cost more money, when there hasn’t been any for some time? Oh, and this is the last month of the fiscal year. What strange, graft-laden mockeries will emerge?

This is the time to go after the nanny state with a cleaver, not expand it. I hope John Boehner tells the good President to talk to the hand, and that the American people back Boehner to the hilt. Enough of this noise.
