It is fun to curse our leaders and throw stones at them, but we should realize that cursing politicians will not create answers where none exist. Sometimes, cursing politicians is a way of whistling in the dark; by grumbling about how stupid and inept they are, we reassure ourselves that answers really do exist and that if more competent people were in office our problems would all be solved.

I’m not sure that’s true. I do think our politicians are getting it wrong: too many on both sides of the Atlantic are trying to shore up the blue social model rather than thinking about how to move beyond it. But in fairness to them, what comes next is not so clear.

The economic impact of the internet has been to wreck the middle man, most recently, Borders.

By breaking the grip on communications enjoyed by the Ruling Class, the internet is exposing and claiming nanny states the world over.

Some are retreating into fascist religious expression, particularly the neighborhood from which I write.

In the West, the Ruling Class is so used to bribing the people of today with the wealth of tomorrow that they lack all courage to do what’s necessary. When a Perry states the obvoius, that Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, it’s seen as some raging blasphemy. And it’s hardly a start.

Sorry, Paul Ryan: the Roadmap, while a noble effort to save Holy Progress, is mostly a fool’s errand. The Progressive Era is toast. What is called for is a top down scrub, and transition plan away from the centrally managed system, in favor of one that respects liberty and rewards initiative. Sure, the transition will have to respect the dupes who’ve been worshipping the Golden Calf of Progress the last century; folks under 50 (e.g. me) are going to have to step up and take a haircut. For all our Ruling Class has been pissing down our back and telling us it’s raining these years, the lying swine, they’ll find a surprising maturity in the American populace. You know, the common folk who ran the better part of a million people through the Mall last year and left it cleaner than they found it.

We’re going to have a painful few years, while we get through the trough on the economic sine curve. TANSTAAFL, though we’ve behaved as though Heinlein was wrong for quite a while. The crucial thing at this point is to locate and support the sober leadership necessary to get us off of the road to serfdom, and headed back toward our birthright of liberty.

Don’t know or care who that leader is. Cain? Perry? Bachmann? Palin? McCotter? Santorum? Who cares? As long as they are not a Ruling Class tool, it’s fine by me. Reducing the Presidency from a cheap personality cult and back to a simple, Constitutional executive is what matters. Leave the despair to the Ruling Class worms and their sycophants, say I.

It will get better.

Fear and Loathing at Union Station

UNION STATION, Washington, D.C.
My son-in-law dropped me off here about 1 a.m. My train leaves at 3:15 a.m.  So I’ve got a few minutes to do a quick blog post before I board the train and head off to Worcester and thence to New Hampshire.

We’re trying to get Dan Collins of Piece of Work in Progress, who lives in Vermont, to come over to Manchester, N.H., for Monday’s Tea Party Express Rally with Sarah Palin. Go hit Dan’s tip jar.

Meanwhile, in Iowa, Sarah Palin met Friday with a couple hundred supporters at a restaurant in a Des Moines suburb, and managed to make news:

As former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin walked in the front door of The Machine Shed restaurant in Urbandale, Iowa, this evening, a reporter asked Palin what she thought about the current field of GOP presidential candidates.
“Happy with the field of candidates. I always think that there’s room for more, though, because spirited debate and more competition will allow an even better discourse and a more rigorous discourse that the public deserves,” Palin said.

So, yeah, she’s not ruling anything out. Just keepin’ everybody on their toes. You betcha.

New Hampshire, Here I Come!

The AmTrak ticket from Union Station in D.C. to Worcester, Mass., was $182. My son-in-law is coming to pick me up in a few minutes to take me to the station. Pete Da Tech Guy will pick me up Saturday afternoon in Worcester.

Pete and I will cover Mitt Romney’s Sunday appearance at a Tea Party Express rally in Concord, N.H., an event that has sparked controversy:

FreedomWorks, which had been participating in the Tea Party Express’s tour and had helped turn out activists at rallies during prior stops, decided it could no longer be affiliated with the tour, said Brendan Steinhauser, a lead organizer for FreedomWorks.
Instead, it began working with local New Hampshire tea party groups to organize a counter rally set for about the same time in the same park in Concord as Romney’s speech.
“We have to defend our brand against poseurs,” Steinhauser said.

What fun that should be, huh? And then Monday, there is a rally in Manchester, N.H., with Sarah Palin, fresh off the Saturday Tea Party Rally in Iowa where all the experts sure she’s not — repeat, not — going to announce her presidential candidacy. Will Palin do what the experts expect her to do Saturday? Well, first time for everything, I guess. But if she does announce in Iowa, we’ll be ready to cover her first campaign trip to New Hampshire. Speaking of women and controversy . . .

Mrs. Other McCain is kinda angry at me. You see, when I blogged Wednesday morning about my plans for a New Hampshire trip, I meant to tell her about. But then stuff kept happening on the blogosphere, and I got busy and forgot to mention it until this evening, after I’d already bought my train ticket.

Contributions to the “Help Make Mrs. Other McCain Happy” Fund would be deeply appreciated. She’s a wonderful wife, who has to put up with an awful lot. Now it’s time to pack up and get rolling — wish me luck!

‘Community Organizing’ Properly Understood: Political Organized Crime

There are two ways to get money: Honestly by hard work, or dishonestly through thievery and fraud. If you vote for politicians because they promise to give you money taken from taxpayers, you are practicing the politics of thievery.

We call it “corruption” or “bribery” when businesses give money to politicians in return for their support of legislative favoritism, but we call it “social justice” when Democrats promote programs that give money to voters who support Democrats:

Why are left-wing activist groups so keen on registering the poor to vote?
Because they know the poor can be counted on to vote themselves more benefits by electing redistributionist politicians. Welfare recipients are particularly open to demagoguery and bribery.
Registering them to vote is like handing out burglary tools to criminals. It is profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country — which is precisely why Barack Obama zealously supports registering welfare recipients to vote.

That startling passage by my buddy Matthew Vadum in The American Thinker has provoked head-exploding outrage from liberals, who are sure what he has written is evil, although they cannot deny it is true.

House investigators said they have uncovered evidence that White House officials became personally involved in an Energy Department review of a hot-button $535 million loan guarantee to the now-failed California solar company Solyndra. . . .

If the praises of high-ranking Obama-administration officials were a viable business plan, the solar-panel maker Solyndra would be an industrial juggernaut. . . .
Obama and Biden were literally invested in Solyndra’s success. The company got a half-billion-dollar federal loan guarantee, the first in a highly vaunted Department of Energy green-jobs program, as part of the stimulus. This was supposed to be the new economic model: government and its favored industries cooperating to lead the country into a green, politically approved recovery. . . .
A Department of Energy spokesman explained wanly, “The company was considered extraordinarily innovative as recently as 2010.” Innovative, maybe; profitable, no. It had never turned a profit since its founding in 2005. In the still “extraordinarily innovative” year of 2010, it canceled an attempted IPO and axed its CEO. . . .
President Bush was flayed for the Enron bankruptcy, based on his tenuous ties to the firm. If the same media rules applied, Solyndra would be Obama’s Enron, given his active promotion of the company and his lavish funding of it. A prodigious Obama-Biden fundraiser is a major backer of the failed concern.

“Green jobs” = Obama gets the green. You lose your jobs.

Arianna Huffington Fires Tech Blogger AOL Paid $30 Million to Buy Out

At least that’s what it looks like, but first the background: Remember, AOL in February paid upwards of $300 million to acquire HuffPo in a deal that reportedly gave Arianna “control of all of AOL’s editorial content.” That big effing deal happened less than six months after AOL paid a reported $30 million to buy TechCrunch, the super-popular technology/business blog started in 2005 by Michael Arrington.

So the news comes today that Arianna gave Arrington the boot:

TechCrunch founder and editor Michael Arrington no longer works for TechCrunch, says Arianna Huffington, the president and editor-in-chief of AOLHuffington Post Media Group.
This contradicts some initial reports of Mr. Arrington’s new role, which said that Mr. Arrington would continue to report to Ms. Huffington, would retain the official title of “founding editor,” and would still be employed as a writer for TechCrunch.

This allegedly has something to do with Arrington starting a technology investment fund, a move decried as a violation of journalism ethics.

Now you understand why I’ve resisted all those lucrative offers* to sell TheOtherMcCain.com to international media conglomerates. You can’t get fired if you don’t have a boss. And I’d go back to driving a forklift before I’d work for a crazy bitch who talks like Zsa Zsa Gabor.

* This involves a definition of “lucrative offers” not quite as high as $300 million, and a definition of “international media conglomerates” that includes anyone stupid enough to offer money to buy a blog. A Venn diagram showing Set A as “people with lots of money” and Set B as “people who want to buy a blog” would show an extraordinarily tiny overlap in Set AB, none of whom have shown any interest in TheOtherMcCain.com — yet.

Herman Cain Slams Obama on Jobs: ‘Zero Leadership, Zero Plans, Zero Results and Zero Understanding of Basic Economics’

From the Atlanta businessman’s presidential campaign:

“We learned today that not a single job was created during the month of August in the United States of America. In the land of endless opportunity and abundant freedom, the very promise that has inspired generations of industrious and innovative people seems to be dwindling away.
After trillions in government spending and empty promises, 14 million American workers are unemployed, with millions more underemployed. These are people, not statistics. They are families struggling to put food on the table, send their kids to school and keep the lights on. They are our family members, friends and neighbors.
Sadly, the fact that zero jobs were created last month is only fitting for this administration, which is led by a President with zero leadership, zero plans, zero results and zero understanding of basic economics. And the American people are worse off because of it.”

Herman Cain has released his own economic plan, and he didn’t need a Joint Session of Congress to do it. What will Richard Wolffe say?

‘Let’s Face It, the Color of His Skin’

MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe explains why you hate Obama:

“What is it about this President that has stripped away the veneer of respect that normally accompanies the office of the president? Why do Republicans think that this president is unpresidential and shouldn’t dare to request this kind of thing? . . . It strikes me that it could be the economic times, or that he won so big in 2008, or, It could be, let’s face it, the color of his skin.”

We all remember the “veneer of respect” liberals had for President Bush, right? But Wolffe is a minor player among MSNBC’s heavyweight purveyors of progressive pretzel-logic. None can compare to that eminent Evangelist of Incomprehension, the Reverend Al Sharpton:

Big Journalism’s P.J. Gladnick says he replayed this Al Sharpton clip nine times and still couldn’t understand what the Reverend was trying to say.

I’ll make it easy for you, P.J.: He was saying you’re a raaaaacist for thinking he’s too stupid to read his own script.

Or in other words: “Resist we much!”
