SWAC Girl Does Not Understand Hope’n’Change Economics

Now, SWAC Girl is a great blogger:
After voting for nearly $1 trillion in ‘stimulus’ spending, casting the deciding vote for $2 trillion in spending for ObamaCare, Mark Warner has finally realized that the federal government has a serious financial problem.
But it’s not enough of a problem for him to support a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Given the opportunity to put his apparent new-found concern for the nation’s fiscal state into action, Mark Warner punted.
But she hasn’t been briefed on the Lefty Underpants Gnome approach to dealing with political difficulties, apparently.
- Vote for financially unsustainable policies.
- ???
- Blame the Tea Parties.
Senator Warner is a sad little tool whose term cannot end quickly enough. I, for one, hope that he follows Senator Webb’s brave example and doesn’t bore us with a re-election campaign.

Reality Begins to Reach Charlie Sheen
Posted on | March 10, 2011 | 21 Comments
You know how when somebody says “it’s not about the money,” it’s always about the money? Charlie’s insane tantrum explained:
“Charlie has earned an enormous amount of money with this show, but he has also spent a fortune and now finds himself in the very tricky position of being cash poor,” an insider tells me. “Every penny he has is tied up in property or business dealings.”
According to my source, what Charlie needs is cold hard cash and “that’s why he’s fighting so hard to try and get the $16 million he lost when CBS originally suspended production on the eight remaining episodes of this season.”
Yeah, dude’s paying child support for four kids, alimony for two ex-wives, plus all that cash he’s paying to various lawyers, porn stars, dope dealers, bookies, etc. And belated regrets can be quite expensive:
Charlie Sheen is finally admitting to his problems and reaching out for help.
In the latest issue of Life & Style, the actor admits that his life has taken a sharp decline in recent months and that, despite adamant declarations that he’s “winning,” his life has fallen off course.
“I’m really starting to lose my mind,” says Sheen. “I’m ready to call anyone to help.” . . .
“I”m really trying to contain myself right now,” says Sheen. “My lawyer wants to come over to my house and take the bullets out of my gun.”
Think about this, Charlie: All you had to do, after your January incident with Kacey Jordan, was to go through rehab and get sober. Ten days or two weeks, maybe, and by the end of February you’d have been back at work, with the money rolling in. Instead, you’re still in denial about the problems that got you where you are:
“Why didn’t they recognize my value to the show and then just say ‘let’s fix the situation?’ I’m not ashamed of anything.”
Charlie, how can you blame them for not recognizing your value to show, when you so clearly failed to recognize the value of the show to yourself?
They were paying you big bucks, and yet you apparently though your value was so great that the producers had no choice but to put up with anything you dished out, including brutal public insults to Chuck Lorre.
Well, guess what, genius? There’s a limit to what people will put up with, even from you. And now you’re screwed.
Wisconsin: GOP Wins, Dems Cry ‘Unfair’
Posted on | March 10, 2011 | 13 Comments
With Democrats still in Illinois, the state Senate abruptly voted Wednesday night to eliminate collective bargaining provisions for most public workers that have stood for decades, sending a flood of angry protesters into the Capitol.
The bill, which has drawn international attention, is to be taken up at 11 a.m. Thursday by the Assembly.
That house has already passed a nearly identical version of the wide-ranging bill, which Gov. Scott Walker introduced last month to address a budget shortfall. . . .
From Feb. 17 until Wednesday, the Senate Democrats were able to block a vote on the original version of the bill because the state constitution requires 20 senators to be present for bills that authorize spending money. Republicans control the house 19-14.
Republicans devised a plan to get around the impasse and hurriedly approved the bill late in the day after meeting for hours behind closed doors. . . .
“The Senate Democrats have had three weeks to debate this bill and were offered repeated opportunities to come home, which they refused,” Walker said in a statement. “In order to move the state forward, I applaud the Legislature’s action today to stand up to the status quo and take a step in the right direction to balance the budget and reform government.”
Some samples of the Left’s reaction, first Firedoglake:
Anti-Public Employee Bill Passes Senate
in Wisconsin; Only the Beginning of the Fight
Yeah: The bill is “anti-public employee,” rather than “anti-union shakedown” see? And the lefties — who just lost the fight — insist the fight is just beginning. And now MSNBC:
GOP rams anti-union bill through Wis. Senate
Right: They rammed it through — after the Democrats had been playing hooky in Illinois for three whole weeks. So you get the idea of the combination of denial and rage this has produced, which was matched by the left-wing protest pests who practically rioted the Capitol in Madison after the bill passed.
I remember when Tea Party people had peaceful, orderly rallies on the steps of state capitol buildings and liberals portrayed these events as frightening hatefests where angry mobs were incited to violence. Meanwhile, the Left runs amok inside the Wisconsin capitol, and we’re supposed to believe this is an admirable demonstration on behalf of “worker’s rights.”

A Gastric Pacemaker

Insty’s link invites the question: to what lengths will we go to evade maturity and self-discipline?
At a cost of around $21,000 for the device and surgery, Abiliti is slightly more expensive than a stomach bypass and nearly twice the price of a gastric band, says Sarela. However, it should have none of the side effects, such as nausea or vomiting can be caused by structurally altering the stomach, he says.
For a significantly lower rate, you can also quaff a quart of water before eating.
Additionally, for me anyway, two ways to ratchet down appetite are: (a) exercise, and (b) fasting. Eat dinner one night and give your plumbing the next day off until dinner, staying hydrated of course.
It’s amazing what can be achieved through pre-industrial means.

Feminism: Wrong From the Start

Betty Friedan (left) leads a 1971 protest supporting the Equal Rights Amendment
Instapundit links to a column by Barbara Kay that is premised on a counterfactual revisionist narrative:
The feminist revolution began as a necessary reform movement, but unfortunately evolved into a marxism-imbued, revolutionary one. Second-wave feminism’s focus soon shifted from women’s equal rights (which are limited to those defined by law) to women’s interests (which are limitless), as perceived through a victim’s lens.
This is an outright falsehood — a propaganda myth fostered by the feminist movement — and no matter how many times this myth is repeated, it will still be false.
Facts, as John Adams observed, are stubborn things. Read more
