Just Watched Christine O’Donnell And That Other Dude Debate

Update II: Let us pray that enlightenment, or a ludicrous amount of pressure, finds Mike Castle. No one can make the old duffer do the graceful thing here: he has every right to be a cantankerous, Ruling Class putz and fail to support the American cause. I support and defend his constitutional right to vie for the Richard Cranium of the Year Award. Nope; can’t take that from the chap. Can’t coerce him to endorse Christine O’Donnell and try to help recover the country. Limited to strong encouragement on this one.

Update: debate available here.
C-SPAN streamed it, and has much other political coverage.
Christine generally turned in a great performance. Her weakest question was recent SCOTUS decisions which she opposed. Apparently she’s fairly in agreement with the Roberts Court.
I just haven’t got a nice thing to say about Coons. Pet, indeed: he seemed to have swallowed every Progressive notion hook, line, sinker, and half the pier. Delaware could elect the HuffingtonPost.com to the Senate with no appreciable difference. OK, Arianna’s digital rag doesn’t meet the age requirement, but still.
Christine sounded a solid candidate. Coons, a condescending tool. A look at history might reveal to Delaware voters that it’s been the tools that have dug our huge economic pit.
Meanwhile, The Other Smitty is deeply sad that no one is loving the theme song for the Friday POTUS visit, Obama Went Down To Delaware. Read, guffaw, link, in that order.
Brokaw is on C-SPAN now doing the CA Governor debate. But I simply cannot listen to the man: his diction is excruciating. Retirement, perhaps?

MA-10 GOP Candidate Jeff Perry Talks About Democrat ‘Smear and Fear’ Attacks

Posted on | October 13, 2010 | 7 Comments

BOSTON — Republican Jeff Perry is leading in the race for the open seat in Massachusetts District 10, vacated by the retirement of Democrat Rep. Bill Delahunt. Perry is state legislator and former police officer, author of a book called My GOP, which explains his Reagan-inspired philosophy.

This is a district that went strongly for Scott Brown in January and is a prime pickup target for the NRCC. Democrats have unleashed a slew of smear ads on Perry, so that if you’re the kind of idiot who believes Democrat attack ads, you think the main tenets of the Republican Party platform is (a) cut off Social Security, (b) ship jobs to China, and (c) mandatory strip searches for teenagers.

Jeff Perry has a strong grassroots campaign, they’re fired up for Nov. 2, and you can tell he remains confident that voters in the 10th District are smarter than Democrats think they are:

Today, Jeff Perry made news by calling for repeal of Obamacare, and here’s his ad responding to the Democrat smears:

Here is Michael Barone on Howie Carr’s radio show explaining that the 10th District is the “most likely” pickup for Republicans in Massachusetts:

Democrats see the Big Red Wave coming and they’re desperate enough to try anything to cut their losses. The shift against Democrats is starting to look like a tsunami even in Massachusetts and, as Mary Katharine Ham notes, things are now looking so good for Republicans that the NRCC may direct money into supporting Sean Bielat’s campaign.

Also, those “secret foreign donors” have hired a crazed Ewok.

Twenty days to go, people. Go all out, every day, all the way to Nov. 2.

Obama Went Down To Delaware

Obama going to Delaware on Friday? Via AmericanGlob, Rush says it’s all panic.
Allahpundit likes the WaPo analysis:

Obama isn’t just visiting; he is also bringing Vice President Biden, who formerly occupied the Senate seat and has already campaigned on behalf of Coons.

Democratic officials insisted the stop isn’t all about celebrating their luck with the O’Donnell nomination. “There’s nothing you can bank on in this cycle,” one strategist said, requesting anonymity so as to discuss political developments more candidly. “Christine O’Donnell came out of nowhere in the primary.” At the same time, the strategist said, the visit gives Obama and Biden a chance “to go help out a guy who’s going to be a United States senator.”

“Given the map out there, there’s a finite number of places Obama can go, and this is one of them,” the strategist said.

So it could be a feel-good, pick-me-up Friday trip to a state whose race is deemed both high-profile and safe.
No one else seems to be picking up on the possibility that O’Donnell is a Sarah Palin surrogate, a stand-in for the grizzly noir causing bedwetting in a Democratic master suite near you, if you hang your fedora near the Potomac.

Libby the Liar: Mitchell Laughed at ‘Terrorist’ Joke Against President Bush

Posted on | October 13, 2010 | 2 Comments

The campaign of Libby Mitchell, the Democratic candidate for governor of Maine, is in meltdown mode this week, after the state senator from Augusta was caught in a lie. During a televised debate Sunday, Mitchell criticized her Republican opponent Paul LePage for saying he’d tell Obama to “go to hell” if the administration’s policies hurt Maine’s fishing industry. The blog As Maine Goes reports:

LePage rebutted Mitchell saying, respect cuts both ways, and he used a photo he had seen of the Sen. President laughing at a picture of Pres. George W. Bush portrayed as a terrorist. Mitchell said she had no idea what LePage was talking about.

The blogger then published the photo:

Ha. Ha. Ha. Very funny, Libby Mitchell. You’re at 32% in a three-way race, and my bet is that you’ll finish third.

CNN Discovers Secret to Failure

Doug Ross summarizes the idiocy:

Go figure: a hapless, failed politician with zero media experience and a pathetic drone of an op-ed writer have achieved the lowest Nielsen ratings for CNN in a decade. And, given its programming over that period, that’s really quite an accomplishment.

Getting a smaller audience than MSNBC? Genius.

Barney Frank’s Self-Created Problem

Posted on | October 13, 2010 | 6 Comments

BOSTON — Scapegoating other people for your problems is a psychological defense mechanism that allows the narcissist to resolve his cognitive dissonance, to wit: “I think I’m wonderful, but not everyone seems to share this perception and I need to distract them (and myself) from evidence that I’m not as wonderful as I’d like everyone to think I am. Therefore, someone else must be blamed for my errors, and anyone who calls attention to my flaws must be ignored or shouted down.”

Such is the psychodrama being played out in the 4th Congressional District. My latest article at The American Spectator:

Debbie still remembers the moment more than a year ago when she decided to devote herself to defeating Barney Frank.
“The way he talked to his constituents, it just turned my stomach,” Debbie said, talking about an August 2009 town-hall event in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, attended by some 500 citizens who overwhelmingly opposed the health-care bill that was then working its way through Congress. “I said to my husband, ‘I don’t care who’s running against him, I’ll work for them — and I’ll work my heart out.'”
True to her vow, Debbie was working her heart out Tuesday afternoon at a phone bank in the Norton, Massachusetts office of the Republican challenger who is giving the 14-term incumbent the biggest fight of his career.
Sean Bielat has first-hand knowledge of Barney Frank’s stomach-turning arrogance. Bielat debated Frank three times in the past two days, although “debate” is perhaps not the correct word. Frank does not debate, he lectures, and no matter what outrageous claims he makes, his opponent cannot be permitted to object.
“Mr. Bielat, please stop interrupting me,” Frank said during a Monday debate on Boston’s WRKO radio, after the Republican had objected to one of Frank’s numerous distortions. Before the debate was over, as Jonathan Strong of the Daily Caller noted, Frank complained eight time about being interrupted. It was as if Frank thought he was back at Harvard — where he taught undergraduate course in the 1960s — and his GOP opponent was an impertinent sophomore.
Bielat yesterday summed up Frank’s attitude: “‘Don’t talk. I’m talking. I’m the congressman. You’re here to listen to me.’ That’s the way he’s approached his constituents. That’s the way he’s approaching this race. And that’s the way he was approaching me [Monday].” . . .

Please read the whole thing. Barney Frank perceives, correctly, that he has enemies. What he cannot admit — certainly not in public, and perhaps not even to himself — is that these are enemies of his own making.

Barney made his own choices, including the choice he made when he “took a free private jet to the Virgin Islands courtesy of a Maine congresswoman’s billionaire fiance — whose company received a $200 million federal bailout.”

Now that he is being called to account for those choices, he is seeking to externalize blame, portraying himself as the victim of his enemies. It won’t wor

They Told You If You Voted for John McCain, Anti-Semites Would Attack . . .

. . . and they were right!

Last week, somebody defaced some of Republican state Senate candidate Roger Katz’s campaign signs in Augusta with anti-Semitic slurs. The wording of the messages indicated the graffiti was probably not the work of kids, since it mirrored phrases favored by neo-Nazi hate groups (including the acronym “ZOG,” which stands for “Zionist Occupation Government”).
You’d think that such an incident might be news, particularly since Katz is the city’s mayor, and the vandalism was reported to police. But the Kennebec Journal didn’t seem to think the story merited coverage. Nor would it allow publication of at least two letters to the editor on the subject — one of them from a city councilor. . . .
