Hey, Kids: Communism Isn’t Cool

Posted on | August 24, 2019 | 2 Comments

Why do so many young Americans hate their own country? Why does Hasan Piker think himself clever for obscenely smearing Dan Crenshaw as a warmongering tool of the “military industrial complex”? I blame Communism. In fact, I blame one particular Communist, Howard Zinn. When the FBI file on his Stalin-era association with the CPUSA was made public in 2010, I wrote “The Case Against Howard Zinn” for The Americam Spectator, summarizing the evidence of Zinn’s subversive activity. Yet the influence of Zinn’s anti-American ideology has actually increased since he reached room temperature (and thereby became the only kind of “good Communist”). Now, historian Mary Grabar has published Debunking Howard Zinn: Exposing the Fake History That Turned a Generation against America, which ought to be assigned reading for your back-to-school teenagers. (Hat-tip: Instapundit.)

NBC/MSNBC Smears the Epoch Times

Posted on | August 22, 2019 | 2 Comments

Nothing more displays the left-wing media’s devotion to propaganda than the way in which they use their influence to attack any journalistic endeavor which contradicts the liberal narrative. They have done this to Rush Limbaugh and every other successful talk-radio host, they have done it to Fox News, they have done it to Breitbart, they have done it to two publications (The Washington Times and The American Spectator) for which I have written, and they’ve done it to me personally.

Their latest target of character assassination is The Epoch Times, which had been a little-noticed newspaper until recently, when they beefed up their reporting staff and began to score some valuable exclusives, including excellent reporting on the “Russian collusion” scam. The Epoch Times also launched an online advertising effort to promote their reporting, and it was this effort — about $1.5 million in Facebook ads — that became the hook for a 3,000-word article at the NBC News web site with this kind of concern-trolling tone:

Those video ads — in which unidentified spokespeople thumb through a newspaper to praise Trump, peddle conspiracy theories about the “Deep State,” and criticize “fake news” media — strike a familiar tone in the online conservative news ecosystem.

That NBC should be accusing others of peddling “conspiracy theories,” after NBC went all-in on the phony “Russian collusion” narrative is . . .

Laughable, would be a good word. Psychological projection, if you want to go with the diagnostic approach. NBC also spends a lot of time thumping on the fact that the Epoch Times is apparently run by members of the Falun Gong, a dissident Chinese religious sect. Yeah, the liberal media are now leveraging ethnic and religious bigotry to smear their opponents — next they’ll report on the, uh, ((( ownership ))) of the New York Times? Of course not. Don’t be silly. The ethnicity and religious affiliation of journalists only matter when these characteristics can be used as an ad hominem smear against conservative media. So there won’t be any NBC News stories about the ethnic/religious identity of Andy Lack or Jeff Zucker, no insinuations that liberal media outlets are untrustworthy because of ((( who ))) the ((( executives ))) are.

The NBC News smear job on The Epoch Times got turned into a half-hour segment on Rachel Maddow’s show Tuesday night. She spent nearly 10 minutes going on about an incident in 2006 when a Falun Gong protester disrupted a press conference with President Bush and Chinese President Hu, which is relevant to The Epoch Times journalism . . . how?

See, when you’re engaged in character assassination, as Maddow is, you’ll use whatever you can to discredit your target, in this case, a cheap guilty-by-association smear intended to convey the idea that The Epoch Times is untrustworthy because Falun Gong is a bizarre cult full of wackjobs who act crazy in public. But in fact, according to what I can gather from a swift scan of a Wikipedia article, Falun Gong is a blend of Buddhist and other beliefs that are common in Eastern religion, and the woman who disrupted the 2006 press conference was angry because China’s Communist government is persecuting Falun Gong.

The Epoch Times editor has responded to NBC’s slimy hit job:

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, known for her biased coverage of the Trump administration and for getting the Trump–Russia collusion story wrong, dedicated a whole 30 minutes of prime-time television to us on Aug. 20.
In her segment, Maddow presents a carefully crafted picture based on false claims that The Epoch Times is a purveyor of “conspiracy theories.”
As Maddow and the staff at NBC News know themselves, nothing could be further from the truth.
Maddow and the NBC reporters dismiss but do not provide a single point of factual rebuttal to our extensive coverage of the actions by Obama-era officials to target the Trump campaign in 2016, which have become known as “Spygate.”
Instead, Maddow engages in a description of Spygate that borders on lunacy, saying the scandal is “something about Donald Trump saving America from ‘satanic Democratic pedophiles.’”
The reality is that The Epoch Times has become a recognized leader in its coverage of the Spygate scandal. The tireless reporting by our team of reporters based on actual evidence — including court documents, congressional testimony, and interviews — has received wide acclaim from readers across the country and validation from other media outlets, including The New York Times, which has cited our coverage. . . .

You can read the whole thing. The fact that they got smeared by MSNBC means The Epoch Times must be doing good work.

Meanwhile, Maddow’s ratings are not so good lately.

Italy: Will Salvini Become Prime Minister?

Posted on | August 21, 2019 | 2 Comments

Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced his resignation Tuesday, an event Forbes describes as “creating more chaos for Italy just 17 months after the last election.” If you want to know what it really means, however, read Vox Day, who sees Conte’s resignation as a prophetic omen of an October victory for nationalist Matteo Salvini, “the most popular man in Italy now.” Salvini is leader of La Lega, which was originally Lega Nord per l’Indipendenza della Padania (Northern League for the Independence of Padania), dating back to the 1990s.

At a time when Italy’s political establishment was dominated by the interests of its more backward southern provinces, Lega Nord advocated independence for Italy’s prosperous northern region (“Padania”), and thus was a secessionist movement. This phenomenon caught the attention of certain intellectuals in the United States, who saw in Lega Nord an omen of a future in which the large nation-states constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries might be disaggregated. Why should “lines on the map” be considered sacrosanct? The breakup of the Soviet Union, the return of independence to Eastern Europe, the separation of the Czech Republic from Slovakia, and the civil war that turned the former Yugoslavia into several separate countries — all of these events seemed to be pointing toward a future of reorganization and realignment.

It was this emergent trend that inspired the formation of the League of the South in 1994, advocating “the cultural, social, economic, and political well-being and independence of the Southern people.” Six years later, the Southern Poverty Law Center labeled the League a “racist hate group.” My former association with the League (circa 1996-97) then became the basis of smearing me as a “white supremacist,” even though it could be shown from contemporaneous emails that I had argued strongly against any racialist platform. But facts don’t matter to the SPLC, which has since lost all credibility as an arbiter of “hate.”

The past 25 years, as the intelligent reader must perceive, have validated the judgment of those who, like League of the South president Michael Hill, saw in the Lega Nord an omen of future political trends. What propelled Salvini’s Lega and other “right-wing” nationalist movements into prominence was the phony “refugee” crisis that began in 2014, which was a predictable consequence of the so-called “Arab Spring” that Hillary Clinton’s State Department endorsed (and perhaps orchestrated via the CIA). In Italy, as in other European countries, the unprecedented influx of “refugees” was welcomed by the Left and respectable centrists, and this center-left consensus in favor of the foreign invasion (to call it what it actually was) understandably provoked a reaction that favored the so-called “far right.” If the only alternative to surrendering your country to foreigners is an “extremist” party, every patriot will become an extremist.

Of course, the center-left establishment panicked at the prospect of losing control of the political machinery, and labeled “racist” anyone who advocated opposition to the open-borders agenda of the international elite. Yet the people saw through this propaganda, and voted for Salvini in Italy, Orban in Hungary, Brexit in England, etc. It is not “racism” that has given Matteo Salvini a chance to become Italy’s next prime minister, but rather the political bankruptcy of the elite establishment.

As someone who was an “extremist” before extremism became cool, I don’t expect any apologies now from the liars who falsely smeared me. Sometimes those of us blessed with political foresight must patiently endure abuse while we wait for events to prove us right. Deo Vindice.

‘Special Needs’: Autistic Neo-Nazi Killers

Posted on | August 20, 2019 | Comments Off on ‘Special Needs’: Autistic Neo-Nazi Killers

The first thing you need to know about Nicholas Giampa — besides the fact that he murdered two people — is that he had been diagnosed with autism, depression and a social anxiety disorder, according to his mother. From an early age, Giampa was “troubled,” and was a target of bullying. He attended five different schools during an eight-year period and by 2016, was enrolled at The Dominion School, a private school in Springfield, Virginia, for teenagers with “special needs.” His mother, Marilyn Breedlove Giampa, explained:

Nicholas had no friends and was badly bullied.
“We tried to make up for the fact that he had no friends,” Marilyn said, with trips to Guam and the Grand Canyon, golf and saxophone lessons but nothing could make up for his isolation. Nicholas’ mother noticed a hardening in him.
As a teen, Nicholas called himself a “freak” and “retarded,” falling into very long, dark depressions. “You only love me because you have to,” Nicholas once said to his mother. “How does it get to a point where a person says their mother doesn’t like them?” Marilyn said.
Then, in the summer of 2016, Nicholas was charged with a crime in juvenile court. The case files were sealed but as a result of the charges, he was on probation and was banned from using the internet. But his legal troubles faded into the background as the summer came around with good news: Nicholas had a girlfriend.

(“Good news”? Not for the parents of his girlfriend.)

Marilyn would describe what followed as an “awakening.” The 2 teenagers spent all the time they could together, going on trips to the beach and to amusement parks. This was unknown and wonderful territory for the formerly isolated teen but Buckley Kuhn-Fricker, the mother of Nicholas’ girlfriend, noticed some troubling signs.
“Almost on day one of them dating this summer [my daughter] told me that Nicholas is very good at history and she said, ‘Did you know that the Jews are partly to blame for WWII?’ “ Buckley wrote in email to a school administrator. “I thought it was a mistake and corrected her. Little did I know it is Nicholas’ obsession.”

Nicholas Giampa was a teenage neo-Nazi, an obsession he cultivated via the Internet, where he apparently became a fanboy of a notorious terrorist cult known as the Atomwaffen Division (more about that later). Giampa was the autistic Romeo and his girlfriend, Amelia Fricker, was the special needs Juliet, whose progressive parents were horrified when they discovered Nazi Nick’s obsession with Hitler:

Apparently Nicholas was violating his court order and was sneaking onto the internet where he was taking in and spreading vitriolic ideas. His twitter account had a ghoulish, skeletal Nazi as its avatar and he used it to push hatred against Jews, gays, and other minorities. . . .
In addition to Nicholas’ apparent Nazi obsession, he was having troubles at school. In an email written in mid-September, a school administrator wrote that Nicholas was struggling with his mental health issues, failing several classes, and was being “consumed” by problems his girlfriend was having.
“I think we have a potential Romeo and Juliet situation that we need to be alert to,” the administrator wrote. “These two kids are in my estimation — high risk — for any number of things.” Nicholas’ girlfriend’s mother Buckley thought the same thing, so she called Nicholas up to do something about it.
“I know you’ve been coming in my house,” she said, referring to Nicholas’ sneaking over to see the girl. “Don’t see her again.” Nicholas was devastated. “I’ve given up on trying to be happy,” he wrote in a journal. “Everything I care about leaves or is taken away.” His mental state was rapidly deteriorating.

To make a long story short, two days before Christmas 2017, Nicholas Giampa murdered Amelia’s parents with a pistol, then turned the gun on himself, attempting suicide. Giampa survived the self-inflicted gunshot to his head, although his brain injury was such that a judge ruled him incompetent to stand trial. This story has become part of a liberal media narrative about “white supremacist terrorism,” and the deaths of Amelia Fricker’s parents have been added to a body count total that is being blamed on President Trump. However, even if you condemn Trump as a “white supremacist,” it should be obvious that he doesn’t advocate teenage boys murdering their girlfriends’ parents, a crime that had more to do with Giampa’s psychiatric issues than with any political ideology.

Having employed my habitual sarcasm in regard to the “alt-right” terrorist menace (“Feminist Mom: ‘Memes Are Turning Teenage Boys Into White Supremacists!’”), I do not wish it to be said that cynical ridicule was my only reaction to what is, in fact, a real problem. But as with the case of El Paso shooter Patrick Crusius (“very much a loner,” “the nerdy quiet kid” who was “picked on” in school), the case of Nicholas Giampa shows how a certain type of young white male seems to be particularly vulnerable to recruitment by online extremists. And this is not an accident: The neo-Nazi site Daily Stormer has described its target audience as “the ADHD demographic.” Emotionally disturbed young loners — “misfits,” to use the term Eric Hoffer applied to them in The True Believer — are always looking for something that will give them a sense of belonging. And it so happens that the guy who founded The Atomwaffen Division fit the same profile:

In elementary school [Brandon Russell] had been diagnosed with ADHD, and later suffered from depression, which he tried to mask with clownish behavior and off-color humor. “He’d make stupid jokes he saw on 4chan, kind of memes in real life, which isn’t a good social tactic,” recalls a friend who met Brandon through a University of South Florida engineering club. . . .
Online, Brandon adopted a new and more heroic identity. He called himself “Odin,” after the warrior god of Norse mythology. . . . “Odin will ‘sperg out one day,” predicted one online friend. “He’s a ticking time bomb.”

If you don’t recognize the term “sperg out,” it’s a reference to Asperger Syndrome, i.e., borderline autism. The idea that someone “on the spectrum” might be at risk of committing deadly violence — “a ticking time bomb” — would be denounced by liberals as unfairly stigmatizing such people, yet liberals do not hesitate to stigmatize white males generally (e.g., “CNN Panelist: ‘The Greatest Terrorist Threat in This Country Is White Men’”). Nevertheless, the fact is that these killers fit a certain profile, with mental issues that make them particularly vulnerable to online recruitment into a neo-Nazi worldview, in much the same way as vulnerable teenage girls are being recruited into transgenderism.

When liberals claim that “white supremacy” is a major terrorism threat, they rely on statistics in which the parents of Nicholas Giampa’s girlfriend are counted as victims, even though Giampa’s motive for killing them was obviously personal, rather than political. And other feats of prestidigitation are used to exaggerate the terrorist menace for which liberals wish to blame Trump. Consider how a 2018 article by the Southern Poverty Law Center, “The Alt-Right is Killing People,” includes not only Giampa’s crime, but also the 2014 murder spree by Elliot Rodger (who was half-Malaysian and angry because he couldn’t get laid) and the 2015 massacre in Roseburg, Oregon, committed by a half-black 26-year-old virgin with Asperger Syndrome. Whatever else might be said about those two cases, they cannot reasonably be blamed on Trump or any ideology Trump is supposed to represent.

There is a real problem, in other words, but the liberal obsession with “white supremacy” — which the New York Times has decided will replace “Russian collusion” as their anti-Trump focus — is a distraction from the problem: Young men like Nicholas Giampa whose psychiatric issues make them vulnerable to online radicalization.
