Notes From A Dream In Which I Was An Idiot

by Smitty

Halifax, Nova Scotia could need to rebuild the whole waterfront, if a new study floating the possibility of a 2 1/3 foot rise in ocean levels pans out. The really dreamy part was how the ocean picked up all the swelling in Eastern Canada only, while the rest of Mother Earth wobbled about her axis as usual. Idiot Liberal Woman Eve Ensler Thinks Global Warming Causes Earthquakes

The “Vagina Monologues” author was putting down Sarah Palin on Joy Behar’s show:

ENSLER: Well, I just think the idea that she doesn’t believe in global warming is bizarre.
BEHAR: Every scientist at every note believes in it but Sarah Palin doesn’t believe in it.
ENSLER: And I think we just kind of have to walk around the world at this point and look at what is happening to nature and earthquakes and tsunamis.
BEHAR: Right

Exit question: Is “idiot liberal” redundant?

Jim Treacher, Goldbricking Again

Goofing off. Slacking. Like a “broken tibia” is some kind of excuse or something . . .

Welcome to Washington, Treacher. This is the big leagues, OK? You’ve got to learn to play with pain. Would Bob Novak let a minor thing like a fractured tibia keep him away from the office? Hell no.

If you can’t handle getting run over by State Department Security Service every so often, maybe you’d better go back to Indianapolis.

You Probably Don’t Want to Watch a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Video

I’m not sure why Steve Bartin at NewsAlert would link this. It’s not like swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker is particularly attractive or anything.

So, obviously, if you don’t want to watch that boring video, you don’t care about the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit edition.

Boring! Might as well blog about politics or something . . .

On Bush Nostalgia

by Smitty

Bob Belvedere explores the nuances and variations on theme of missing George W. Bush.
I think that:

  • Bush was the proper fellow at the time, in terms of foreign policy.
  • Bush was yet another Progressive tool in domestic policy terms.
  • Bush was submarined in a big way by the media. This engenders:
    1. A reservoir of respect for his willingness to stand there and deliver amidst systematic, deliberate unfairness that was tantamount to a propaganda war,
    2. A heaping helping of schadenfreude for the Left, who, having denigrated a President for two terms running, can’t seem to figure out why debasing the occupant of the office has residual affects on the next occupant.

But who cares about any of these names? As Governor Palin noted at theTea Party Convention, and was quoted on Trifecta, it’s the principles, not the personalities.

Until we regain the principle that public debt is undesirable, and systemically work to regain financial and economic freedom from debt, it’s the old Arab proverb about the dogs barking and the caravan moving on.

Q. Where is that caravan bound?
A. Egypt.

Q. What will we do when we arrive?
A. Join a pyramid construction crew for Pharaoh.

The Off-Beat Observations Of Jeff G.

by Smitty

The Onanny State:

That progressivism…keeps failing as it runs into the realities of the market…seems never to trouble those like Surber; in fact, their idea of intellectualism, inasmuch as it brackets actual data in favor of privileging political and social desire, is not really intellectualism at all. Instead, it’s a rather wordy masturbation fantasy.

Protein Wisdom, indeed.

Iowahawk Rocks. Again.

by Smitty

One likes to get beyond the “look here” post. The latest Iowahawk skewering of liberalism achieves his usual high standards.

Let me point out a couple of bits that might escape if you for whatever reason. The title alludes to Joseph Conrad’s classic Heart of Darkness. This masterpiece (and I’m a tremendous Conrad fan) was plucked from central Africa in the days of Imperialism and plopped in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam Conflict as Apocalypse Now.

I don’t know if Iowahawk plans a series, but climaxing at a demented Von Drehle somewhere at the headwaters of the Mississippi, clutching a copy of the Constitution and mumbling “…the debt…the debt…the debt…” would be my approach.

Actually, I have my own little bit of madness wanting for attention right now. Excuse me.
