Hilarity ensued Monday after @Andria_XX complained that social-media criticism of Miley Cyrus included “bodyshaming/slutshaming” and “heteropatriarchal crap.” Readers will recall that Andria has an “Honors BA in Social Justice and Peace Studies” and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Gender Studies. So . . . how’s that going?
“I have a honors BA and I’m defending my MA thesis
in two weeks. I am also apply for jobs and I can
only find stuff in the service industry. I applied
for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk job today.
My degrees mean NOTHING.
I am at the end of my rope.“
What? Being an advanced student of useless ideology doesn’t result in meaningful employment? That’s just really . . . unfair.
@Malvenue Perhaps, instead of hotel clerking, @andria_xx should seek a food-service industry career. You know, making sandwiches.

UPDATE: Linked by Tarpon’s Swamp and Rio Norte Line — thanks! — and welcome, Instapundit readers!
Ah yes, the “dongle incident”. Proof that some women really are “quota hires”.
As the kids are saying these days, “I loled”. I couldn’t help it.
“Semantics is my life.”
“I’ve seen you shoot, son. I’m fair certain you still haven’t killed anybody.”
Better than Twerking.
It’s not too late for her to learn how to do drywall and painting.
Honorable work for a decent wage.
After a certain age, it’s all about the ointments.
When the K-Missus and I watch one of our shows, and those various drug commercials come on saying all the side effects (nausea, fainting, loose stool, certain sexual side effects, suicidal thoughts), I always wave my hand dismissively a the tube saying, “Ahhh, I get that all the time.”
He’s not the guy who you always hit with your hat, is it, Skipper?

Admittedly, Sandwich Artist at Subway might be a better career prospect.
Bluto:
Christ. Seven years of college down the drain. Might as well join the fucking Peace Corps.
But lacking, somehow, the wonderful Discworld referent.
Sam Vimes, once, had someone attempt to kill him with a very large fish.
And the Chamber types wonder why the Democrats don’t take them seriously and neither does anyone else.
To be sure, but a 50 year old femme (and I do sooooo include my bad-ass self) cannot do a Marine’s job.
She’ll be able to get a job in local government as a human rights specialist. Sorting out the government employees who are male and white and tagging them as oppressive racists. And some transgender terms I don’t understand.
I read her twitter. I can never get that time back. These people are insane. A degree in bullshit will never get you a good job.
We used to make jokes about the lady in the Prep H ads, particularly the ones in Spanish: Our Lady of the Sorrows of the Hinder Parts.
That was, I assure you, a very long time ago.
Is she tall enough? Seriously, I can dry-wall walls, but ceilings? No. I cannot safely stand where one is supposed to, so no contractor lets me do ceilings.
Why, yes, I have done this sort of work.
Being that she is in Canada, she can get a CDL or whatever they call it there and drive the ice roads. She can deliver cargo to the First Nation people and feel good about herself.
Brilliant!

[…] IT’S HARD OUT THERE, for a gender studies major. […]
A 50 yo unemployed clueless gender studies expert. Complaining about her job options. She’s got to be a plant – Nobody can be that pathetic. Even in Canada.
The short dry wallers sometimes use stilts. And, no, I am not joking.
So she thinks you’re a Tea Partier.
Anyway, is it really true that she’s like, 50 years old and living in her mom’s basement? That’s just sad. That’s older than me. Hell…that’s older than Kirby. Is she looking for her first job or something? You know, that might be her main problem. Being 65 and never having held a job. Maybe she should just forget about the whole job thing. She’s a senior citizen. She should be looking at retirement. And lets face it…her parents probably gave up on her when she turned 70. I mean, she’s what…almost 80. Only Americans start over at that age. And by Americans, I mean “Born in USA”. Canadialand doesn’t count. Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, so this 90 year old crazy lady finishes school and is out looking for her first job ever?
Yeah, ok. I sure hope they have Walmarts in Canada.
I hope she has student loans out the rear .. .
Don’t know about loans. But she has 7000 LOLcats on Picasa.
When students in useless fluff majors discover there is no demand for graduates #nanotechviolin http://t.co/L8myeVYdmS
It is worse than Andria thinks. Her degree actually makes her less employable than she would have been without it. She might as well have just put “trouble maker” on her application and skipped college entirely.
Exactly. She’s a lawsuit waiting to happen. A walking liability. No corporation would ever consider such a person and she doesn’t even realize why.
Reality intruding, Bunky? Blame others. If that fails, deny that a problem exists.
They are especially funny when they get mad!
Really. Who wants to hire someone with a degree in Perpetual Complaining whose answer to everything is protest and lawsuits?
Not only has she earned a useless degree, but she’s gonna be tens of thousands of dollars in debt too. I love it! She’ll NEVER make enough money with that crap degree to pay off her student loans.
THIS is why the rest of us can’t have nice things.
My remarks the other day were if I were a county school super I’d trash her application. Teachers don’t need to be activists.
That’s why they make drywaller’s stilts.

I saw that too. While Andrea grapples with a command of the English language, she has failed to comprehend how her university degrees have utterly sabotaged her chances of employment. The notion that a company would never hire someone who, in the future, might sue them for any number of “perceived social offenses” (of which she is an expert), was completely lost on her. I’m sure that she never even considered such a possibility when she blithely decided that gender studies and social justice would be great life choices. As I said earlier, she’s a walking corporate liability.
She also seems to have tremendous difficulty understanding sarcasm; blatant sarcasm. It’s as if her skull is so dense that the basics (ie: common sense, situational awareness, grammar) can’t penetrate. Fortunately, she does know where she lives: Canada.
Nice catch Summer. Getting along is a two way street. This woman doesn’t want to get along. There’s not much of a job market for 50 y.o. hall monitors.

Why must anything that’s supposed to make you feel better burn on first contact?
Bet she can’t change a light bulb.
$10.
The merthiolate generation demands it!
Probly why I prefer Makers neat when I’m in a mood.
Somehow I had never seen that one.
Ahhhh. One of the better efforts out there.
And you get sandwiches.
If she’s hired, she’ll immediately declare her workplace lacks diversity and is furthermore sexist and racist. “Peace” will ensue only after a lawsuit, or perhaps not hiring her in the first place. Whenever an employer hears “social justice,” they should run screaming.
Oh, well played.
So many of my former, computer geek compadres are now tradesmen. I look at the young kids working at places like Google and say to myself, yeah, you’re changing the world now. But when you turn forty, you’ll be mowing yards and landscaping for a living, and telling your friends how much you enjoy the fresh air.
Once the paternalism died in corporations, that was it. It’s been a problem since the early eighties, really.
Turn 40, get RIF’d, end up working in an unrelated field, like night watchman. That’s why I tell every kid to learn a trade or start a business.
Pratchett. Gotta love the writing, there.
“Time had no meaning in this desert; only morning and evening, day and night. Something as artificial and human as an hour wouldn’t last a minute here. It would be dried up and shriveled in seconds.”
