Hard Times for Gender Studies Major

Hilarity ensued Monday after @Andria_XX complained that social-media criticism of Miley Cyrus included “bodyshaming/slutshaming” and “heteropatriarchal crap.” Readers will recall that Andria has an “Honors BA in Social Justice and Peace Studies” and is pursuing a Master’s degree in Gender Studies. So . . . how’s that going?

“I have a honors BA and I’m defending my MA thesis
in two weeks. I am also apply for jobs and I can
only find stuff in the
service industry. I applied
for a Hotel Front Desk Clerk job today.
My degrees mean NOTHING.
I am at the end of my rope.
“

What? Being an advanced student of useless ideology doesn’t result in meaningful employment? That’s just really . . . unfair.

  1. Oh, dear.

“A honors”? I thought the Canadian school system bore some semblance of a relationship to teaching English?

  2. I’ve yet to meet one who seemed to be doing anything useful. Could be a perfect match. Plus the opportunity to make people miserable.

  3. Has she at least ditched some of the piercings? And tell me she didn’t do that horrible ear stretching thing?

  4. What kind of moron get these kind of degrees? And of top of that takes a loan to learn this drek. Even basket weaving would be more useful

  5. “I am also apply for jobs…”

Perhaps the useless degrees are a symptom of a deeper problem…

  6. You know, I took part in the hilarity on Monday, but I find this sad and pitiful. Andria has no problem criticizing others for heteropatriarchal crap, but does not have enough self-awareness to see how useless her degrees are. I am sure she chose them because the subjects interested her, but if she wasn’t smart enough to realize how useless they would be in the job market, then her problems are of her own making. On second thought, I take back the sad, and leave the pitiful.

  7. I know this much: they are polar opposites of Social Studies and Justice and Peace. Not sure what that means, now that I read it.

  8. She should enlist in the Marines. They’ve opened up Infantry to women. Maybe her degrees will help her find a way to survive in combat with men.

  9. Andria would have done better to hit a vocational-technology school (known nowadays as a “technical college”), and gained a trade.

Plumbing, say, given the amount of crap she produces. But nothing to do with electricity; she would end up killing people with a bad wiring job.

  10. The problem in his field is that it is quite common to find men in his boat. A lot of Corps will let the old geek go, to get the young geek. The old geek is given no opportunity to update skills, or redirect himself. This has been a problem for the last 20 years and all sorts of very good people have found themselves in that boat. There is no shortage of talent in that field, but to hear the Chamber of Commerce types, we have an acute shortage of them. It is a bald faced lie.

  11. Stormtroopers of the Feminist Revolution usually find their Feminist Deathstar blown to bits by things we call the needs for food and shelter. Feminists make for easier targets than womprats.

  12. I served with a Canadian who had enlisted to go to ‘nam and became a citizen. Damn fine man and a excellent soldier.

  13. Andria look on the bright side, with your entry level dead end job you’ll have your $200K student loan paid well before your 88 years old.

  14. Worthless degrees are sometimes the result of misguided affirmative action. Someone qualified for a 2nd tier school will be recruited to a 1st tier school and be faced with the choice of failing out or getting a garbage studies degree. Then someone qualified for a 3rd tier school will be recruited for the now vacant spot in the 2nd tier school, etc. etc. etc.
