Phil Robertson 1, Political Correctness 0

Oh, the GLAAD Butt-Hurt! The most popular family in America could not be defeated by the Sensitivity Outrage Brigades:

Phil Robertson, the patriarch of A&E’s Duck Dynasty clan who was suspended from his hit reality series on Dec. 18 following some incendiary comments about gay people, won’t be put on hiatus after all.
The network and the Robertson family announced Friday that Phil will still be part of the series — and since he didn’t miss any filming, his temporary suspension will have no effect on the upcoming fifth season.

Fact: The “Duck Dynasty” audience is about 10 times larger than the combined audience of CNN and MSNBC.

UPDATE: In case you were wondering about those ratings. The Season 4 premiere of “Duck Dynasty” in August drew 11.8 million viewers, making it the most-watched reality-show episode in cable TV history. Meanwhile, in the 8 p.m. hour on Thursday, Dec. 19, CNN drew 528,000 viewers and MSNBC got 699,000 viewers, for a combined total of slightly more than 1.2 million viewers.

  1. Reckon we all can sing “La Marseillaise” louder than the freaks at GLAAD can sing “Die Wacht am Rhein”…

  2. Has it occurred to anybody else that perhaps the reason that MSNBC and their ilk go after folk like Phil Robertson is not because of ideological differences but because of television ratings?
    11.8 million vs. 500k…….bwahhhhh

  3. Advertisers and Sponsors to A&E Execs: So, you got another show with 10 million viewers a week that we don’t know about or do you just want to stop being stupid?

  4. Nope, I actually think GLAAD got a huge payoff, in cash or in kind. And because GLAAD doesn’t produce a useful product or service, we can’t boycott them or punish them in any way, unless there is a way to revoke their charitable status (hint)

  5. GLAAD does produce a useful product and service: Indulgences to the secular left. They can engage in open hypocrisy and then wash their leftist sins away with a relatively modest payment to GLAAD.

Do you really think they want to kill the golden goose…I mean duck?

  6. Not really feasible. If we take away the tax exemption for one religion, we have to do it to all of them.

  7. More win than lose but Duck Dynasty? What a waste of time. However much better than the anus loving fudge packers who can’t stand to hear verbalized what it is that they really do.

  8. Curiously, and most interestingly, their exempt status is probably safe; their satisfaction (and fundraising) are indirectly enhanced. There simply is no way to prove that GLAAD does not deserve their donations for unrelated reasons.

  9. They think that since nobody’s watching them, nobody should be watching shows that are beneath what they themselves would watch.
    ?Duck Dynasty
    ?Fox News
    ?The Three Stooges
    ?CNN…..etc

  10. GLAAD is largely dependent on corporate donors, find out those, boycott them, that would give GLAAD the spanking of a lifetime…

  11. No. A&E may have thought they were playing chess, but they were alone at the board.

Everyone paying attention knew who Phil, Si, and the rest of the family Robertson was all about. They did cameos in Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel” and Will was in the middle of Tyler Farr’s “Redneck Crazy” video. A&E blew the pooch jumping on the PC Police’s bandwagon.

  12. I had somehow hoped that A&E wouldn’t cave, not because I think they were right, but because I think they deserve to be destroyed. Anyone who would put on a show about Christians for the apparent purpose of mocking them doesn’t belong in business. The suits over at A&E should be forced to undergo diversity training as a pre-condition for keeping the show.

  13. Someone posted a recent tax return: they do some great work – for those who are lucky enough to be employed by them. Most of their budget goes to salaries, then “expenses” including travel, food, etc.

Not quite as lucrative – yet – as the SPLC scam, but nice work if you can get it. Well, assuming your tastes run to theirs, at least.

  14. It was inevitable. The Duck Commander business empire is worth several hundred million $ now, and Phil still lives in his double-wide. A&E thought they could pressure them with the loss of whatever pittance they pay the family for the show? Whoever headed up the “crisis response” team for A&E on this one should be fired, pronto.

Plus, if they doubled down on stupid, there was the looming possibility of a Civil Rights lawsuit. Title VII of the 1964 Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of religious belief or practice, and forbids retaliation for expressing or practicing one’s religion. How ironic if such a suit were to bankrupt A&E.

In short, this was the only possible outcome. The Robertsons weren’t going to blink, throw their Patriarch under the bus, and foreswear Jesus for a few dollars more, and A&E had no way to generate the ad revenue the show brings in – not to mention the huge audience to promote their other shows.

  15. You cannot prove that the GLAAD senior staff are not alien lizard people either. For one thing, they don’t reproduce naturally.

    Cheers

  16. That was my thought too. It’s too bad DD didn’t go to a socially conservative channel (and Fox certainly doesn’t deserve the label – O’Reilly is almost a GLAAD mouthpiece)
