Why Ferguson?

Riot police on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri.

“Fox and CNN viewers witnessed a police car, a car dealership and the local Little Caesar’s Pizza set ablaze, a beauticians’ store looted, a McDonald’s with its windows smashed — and ‘Full circle: Liquor store Michael Brown accused of robbing being looted.'”
— Ed Driscoll, Nov. 24, 2014

The grand jury in Ferguson, Missouri, returned a “no bill” against police officer Darren Wilson, and devotees of the slain Saint Michael Brown — a martyr to the Holy Cause, in the eyes of idolators who worship at the Civil Rights altar — engaged in a ritual riot, while the High Priest of Social Justice, Barack Obama, gave a ceremonial press statement.

Why?

That question goes unasked in the wall-to-wall cable TV news coverage. Because I’m up to my eyeballs in a book project, I don’t have time to pay attention to every Major National News Story that comes along, but I’ve spent the past three months wondering, “Why Ferguson?”

It’s like Trayvon Martin. The basic idea of that drama was, a black teenager got shot by a white man and this was an injustice.

Of course, black teenagers are shot to death on a daily basis in America, but because they are usually killed by other black teenagers, there is nothing in the death of a young hoodlum of interest to the Civil Rights cult unless the shooter is white (or at least half-white, as it turned out that George Zimmerman’s mother is Hispanic).  This cultural phenomenon is so obvious, one hesitates to state it so explicitly: “Civil Rights” has been re-defined to mean “whatever gives black people an excuse to hate white people more than they already do,” and the journalistic establishment is committed to inciting such hatred.

A white person has to be pretty goddamned privileged, if I may borrow that phrase from the social-justice theorists, to pander to professional grievance-mongers in such a blatantly irresponsible manner. You need a degree from an elite college, and a job in media or academia that pays you a handsome salary, in order to be the kind of white person who believes that stoking black anger is beneficial to society, and yet it is clear that many white liberals do believe this.

“In the hands of a skillful indoctrinator, the average student not only thinks what the indoctrinator wants him to think . . . but is altogether positive that he has arrived at his position by independent intellectual exertion. This man is outraged by the suggestion that he is the flesh-and-blood tribute to the success of his indoctrinators.”
– William F. Buckley Jr., Up From Liberalism (1959)

Excuse me for re-using that Buckley quote, but we cannot understand liberalism without recognizing it as an effect of indoctrination.

Why do liberals “think” the way they do? In fact, they don’t actually think at all. Our elite are utterly irrational, like the monkey in the psych lab experiment, pushing the button in the Skinner box to get another hit of cocaine, heedless of the consequences. Our current system of education does not teach facts and skills, it teaches attitudes, and one of the prescribed attitudes is: Black, good; white, bad.

Liberalism involves a crude Manichean worldview:

Women, good; men, bad.
Youth, good; adults, bad.
Atheists, good; Christians, bad.
Hedonism, good; responsibility, bad.
Abortion, good; motherhood, bad.
Sodomy, good; normal sex, bad.
Wilderness, good; carbon energy, bad.
Labor unions, good; entrepreneurs, bad.
Government, good; corporations, bad.
Foreigners, good; Americans, bad.
Democrats, good; Republicans, bad.

It is this last distinction — blind loyalty to the Democrat Party — which is the ultimate goal of the attitudinal training we now call “education.” Our government school system annually hands diplomas to teenagers who can barely even read their diplomas, and the bureaucratic mediocrities who run the system don’t care that their “education” teaches kids nothing useful, so long as the student learns to vote Democrat.

What did public schools teach Michael Brown? That it is entirely acceptable to get high on dope, steal from a local convenience store and, when apprehended by a police officer, to resist a lawful arrest:

“The witness’s account of the unarmed Brown
charging Wilson — even after he had been shot in the
hand during a struggle at the cop’s patrol car —
supports the officer’s contention that he fired
a series of shots as Brown bore down on him.”

The governor of Missouri is a Democrat. The mayor of Ferguson is a Democrat. The prosecuting attorney in the case is a Democrat. I’m not sure there were any Republicans on the grand jury that returned a no-bill against Officer Wilson. Yet the media manipulators who are stoking racial rage over this story are doing so with the certain knowledge that, by fomenting anti-white resentments, they are serving the political interests of the Democrat Party.

That’s all it is, nothing more.  They should be ashamed of themselves, but if liberals had any sense of shame they would not be liberals.

  1. Ferguson should be viewed as a celebration of the power and authority of the Democratic Party, nothing more. While 90% of black voters are Democrats, I think there is an even higher percentage of Democrats at these events. They are a celebration of the teaching of hate.
Stay tuned. The Democratic Party is just getting started.

  2. The only problem with your thesis is that, given the Democrats consist of an uneasy alliance of disparate constituencies, this unrest is laying bare the reality that eventually they must consume themselves. Identity politics is devoid of transcendent ideas. It is only about superficial differences. Query whether the black dress shop owner or black baker whose businesses were destroyed will continue to feel affinity for the Democrat party whose politicians refused to protect them.

(FYI, the St. Louis County executive is also a Democrat and black.)

  3. Fox, of course, joined the media stampede to cover this…errr…incident as well.
Mind you, if they did not, you know exactly what the perpetually aggrieved would say.
Sometimes you can’t win, though, they could have toned it down a bit.

  4. So it turns out that people are allowed to defend themselves in this country, even if the aggressor is a black man.

  5. I find the story of the 12 year old who was recently shot in Ohio with a toy gun far more tragic and compelling than that of Michael Brown (I heard he took the orange tip off the airsoft gun, I do not know if he was aggressive in pulling out the gun when the police ordered him to put up his hands or if he simply panicked and the police shot).

The anger (that is way different than the rioting) in the black community over police is not completely unjustified–that said (and as President Obama acknowledged) no group is more needing effective policing than the poor.

  6. I don’t watch TV anymore, but I would say how you cover something is as important as what you cover. You used to be able to tell that were watching Fox as opposed to one of the Libtard channels, simply by the way they covered an event.
I don’t know if that ahs changed completely, but I hear there has been some evolution (can I say that on a conservative website?) at FNC, but don’t know personally.

  7. A caller to a radio show I heard made an interesting point: everything that is bad for America is good for the Democratic Party.

  8. Blacks aren’t the only people angry about the Police. The militarization of the Police is having negative effects everywhere. However, Blacks desperately need the Police, yet they inculcate an attitude towards them that is unhealthy in any population.

  9. Why do some cases get picked up by the Party Media? I have an idea. Not stupid, evil. Take that as your basis for understanding and apply that to the question.

St. Skittles vs Zimmerman, Brown vs Wilson; what is similar? Both involved a white (or white Hispanic) shooting a black youth, both youths were on drugs, both were entirely justifiable shootings, both were instantly hyped as a race based hate crime. Both shooters were cleared of all charges, the case was not even close for any rational observer looking at the evidence yet in the black community the belief in the exact opposite is probably higher than their vote share for the Democrat Party.

So again, evil instead of stupid and why? Community organizing basics are all that is required to explain. Go into the community, find the fault lines, the pain points and then fracture them, rub them raw. Big splashy news circuses like this is a good way. Pick these stories and you get endless news cycles where blacks become more and more outraged and whites become more confused and angry at the irrationality. Division.

Think. Imagine they picked white cop accidentally or intentionally shoots black kid and try to hype it. How would that work? Who sits in the other chair and debates? Nobody. No debate, no teachable moment, no division, no hate, no story. Evil.

  10. No doubt. The anger tends to be higher in the black community, but it is definitely not limited to it. I agree this attitude is profoundly unhealthy especially given the epidemic of black on black violence and murder.

You know how this works: you appease the cannibals, hoping that they’ll eat you last. That’s really all there is to it.

  12. I have a feeling that that Governor Nixon’s political career is over after this debacle. Politicians don’t get a lot of votes when they willfully let towns in their state burn to the ground.

  13. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother.

  14. I want SOMEONE to ask the God-damned race hustlers why they haven’t been “marching” on behalf of all the black teenagers who have been killed by other black teenagers.

  15. With his blatant promotion of racial division and tension for purely political reasons, the president has a lot to answer for.

  16. So the Left is pushing a return to mob justice and worldviews which segregate public policy discussions by race and gender.

And they have crafted an entire lexicon and complex-sounding pseudo-philosophy to justify what essentially amounts to an expanded version of Jim Crow.

  17. To the idiot residents of Ferguson:

What’s your neighborhood like the rest of the year? It sucks.

You don’t have the strength, intelligence, responsibility, sobriety or diligence to construct a workable community. So you distract with histrionics and melodramatic nonsense when there’s a white-on-black event, as if THAT’S the problem.

  18. It’s all a bizarre mechanism it’s hard to figure out. You have this phenomenon of social justice warriors who act as if it’s the ’60s and there is a cultural revolution going on, if not an incipient civil war.

What’s driving it? As far as I can tell it’s an amalgam of old school NAACP types and this new feminism. Whatever it is it’s adept at creating and stoking resentments that are mirages, and it seems to based mostly on selling the general idea America is a white and male supremacy.

Whether from straight up lying or sheer stupidity, the amount of delusion being sold is massive, and there seems to be plenty of each to go around. Reading the Twitter feeds of the angry yesterday was like reading people who literally can’t seem to reason, think or use logic. They have a fixed point in their minds and all roads lead to the white man.

Considering this is all based on illusions of oppressions that don’t exist, the sociopathy needed to drive it is amazing. Reading Heather Mac Donald’s recent piece about racial political correctness at UCLA was reading about an insane and fallen society, one so fallen in it’s safe to say it is an unprecedented amount of stupidity from an American citizenry. Since all the people driving this seem to have a plenty soft life with lots of free time to protest and be on Twitter all day, not to mention have educations from our top schools, I’m not sure how to cast this other than a religious inquisition.

  19. Because their agitation only works when the bad guy is The Other. They can’t rely on their water-cannon fodder if the target is a list of individuals, so it has to be an entire race, or establishment, or something the LIVs fear because they are prevented from understanding it.

  20. And also, way to discourage cops of any race from ever coming into your third-world neighborhood of doom. Good job.

  21. Go into most Black tribal communities and you’ll find the majority believe the CIA created and introduced Crack into the Black areas.

One place where they’re taught all of this BS is in their churches, but no one dares report on that. Those Black Church Leaders you see always interviewed on local news are, in many cases, spreading the vile lies.

  22. Well, because in Ferguson, they’re initiating the civil war that will lead to martial law, and martial law to the end of (what’s left of) the Constitution. Bet the next two years will be a thrill ride, and not in a good way.

  23. Because that might be seen as criticizing a black person. Even if a black person kills another black person, George Bush some white man, or just all white people in general, are still a fault.

  24. The tragic thing is: Ferguson is mainly lower-middle class not the inner city. Whites live there. From what I understand, it is a suburb where working black people moved to GET AWAY from the inner city.
Well, say goodbye to all that. The honest residents of Ferguson might have thought they had escaped the ghetto but the ghetto came to them.
Imagine being a homeowner there, wanting out and trying to sell your house – now.
