Newt Gingrich Wins Coveted GOP Primary Endorsement From … Bill Clinton?

All the wrong people are saying nice things about Newt:

“He’s articulate and he tries to think of a conservative version of an idea that will solve a legitimate problem,” Clinton said, by way of explaining the Gingrich resurgence.

Jonah Goldberg sees “omens that World Historical Newt is returning to the scene.” Some people haven’t forgotten who Newt really is.

     What a shameless, but cunning, strategy!  If you can’t get Vanuatu from Cain, you’ll  try to  get it  from Newt instead.

    Newt needs to make sure Bubba didn’t just give him a wicked case of hepatitis after Slick Willy slobbered all over him.

    Actually, some pro-Newt people have tried to “reach out” to me, but I’m beyond reach on this. A Gingrich nomination, like Dole in 1996 and Maverick in 2008, would be a disastrous step backward. I view the ‘Newt Bubble’ as symptomatic of temporary insanity among Republican voters, a madness  born of desperation to defeat Obama, and fomented by various dishonest media influences.

    I hope that we are not doomed to repeat previous exercises in GOP futility. Perhaps voters in Iowa and New Hampshire will realize that “President Gingrich” is never going to happen, no matter what any talking head on Fox News says. As for me …

    VANUATU OR BUST!

    Gingrich is one of the creepiest, nastiest, most conniving politicians I have ever seen come out of DC. And that’s saying something.

    Even if the GOP field is so woeful that he gets the nomination, he would never win. All the Dems would have to do is point out every stupid thing he’s said and done, his broken promises, his appalling behavior towards women, the fact he admits to having the attention span of table salt…The list goes on.

    Frankly, I think that, much as the Dems would love to run against Romney, Gingrich would be a Collective Wet Dream. They’re probably burning joss sticks in front of his picture as we speak.

    And I’m sure Clinton LOVED Gingrich. He made it so easy for Teh First Black POTUS to crush the Republican congress.

    All righty then…we have a rapidly narrowing field. Cain and Bachmann are too inexperienced; Romney and Gingrich equal Dole and McCain; crazy Uncle Ron…not happening; Huntsman or Johnson…who???

    So, we’re down to Perry by attrition? Or is there still an unannouced candidate out there?

    Exactly.  Many conservatives do not have a memory like an elephant, it seems.

    Clinton ran rings around Gingrich, and helped with his re-election!  Of course, he loves Newt.  As political adversaries go, Clinton scored numerous shut-outs continuously over Newt.  Why people don’t remember what a political disaster he was is beyond me.

    This is probably the only blog where you can legitimately “re-hash” the problems of Newt.  I will never forget what a disaster he was to the conservative cause as Speaker, and now people are lauding him as the next Messiah to defeat Romney and Obama.  He could barely even go toe-to-toe with Clinton.

    Too many have amnesia.

    Praise from Clinton probably won’t help Newt in the primaries — even though Clinton is arguably the most conservative president since Coolidge — but it might help him in the general. If it wasn’t for the two-term limit, Clinton would still be in office today.

    We would do well especially to remember that Newt didn’t lose his Speakership to an election, ethics charges, or the Clinton/Democratic Attack Machine.  He resigned because he didn’t have enough votes in the Republican Caucus to survive.  Republicans turned him out.

    Those who don’t know or can’t remember why should seek out some of those members and ask them about it before doing something foolish like voting for Gingrich for the nomination.
