What aspect of feminism was I researching when I found this? Never mind; it doesn’t matter now. The point is that I found a 2009 syllabus for a Women’s Studies course (“Introduction to Feminisms”) at Boston College, which was taught that year by Ellen Friedman. This sophomore-level class is cross-listed under the departments of sociology, history and English, and is required of Women’s Studies minors (Boston College doesn’t offer a major in the subject).

Friedman’s syllabus includes the names of many authors familiar to any student of feminism: Audre Lorde, Simone de Beauvoir, Adrienne Rich, Gloria Steinem and Susan Brownmiller, to name a few. However, the principal textbook for the course was Feminist Frontiers, edited by Verta Taylor, Leila Rupp and Nancy Whittier. This is a 576-page paperback described by its publisher, McGraw-Hill, as the “most widely used anthology of feminist writings,” which is now in its ninth edition.

Feminist Frontiers, earlier editions of which were subtitled “Rethinking Sex and Gender,” was first published in 1983, edited by Taylor — then at Ohio State University — and her mentor, sociology professor Laurel Richardson. It was while at Ohio State that Taylor met Leila Rupp, who became (a) the first faculty member of the Women’s Studies program there, and (b) Taylor’s lesbian lover. Taylor and Rupp are now on the faculty of the University of California-Santa Barbara, where they are proud to be known as “the professors of lesbian love.”

The third editor of the ninth edition of Feminist Frontiers, Nancy Whittier, got her Ph.D. in sociology at — you guessed it — Ohio State University. She is now a professor at Smith College, where she lives with her lesbian partner, feminist historian Kate Weigand, and their three children. Weigand, who gets a shout-out in the preface of Feminist Frontiers for her “feedback” and “companionship,” is the author of Red Feminism: American Communism and the Making of Women’s Liberation, about which reviewer Henry Makow says, “Weigand . . . shows that modern feminism is a direct outgrowth of American Communism. . . . Many second-wave feminist leaders were ‘red diaper babies,’ the children of Communists.”

So, the three editors of “the most widely used anthology of feminist writings” — a basic college textbook for introductory Women’s Studies classes, which has been in print for more than 30 years — are all lesbians. Just a coincidence, I’m sure.

Virginia Democrat Indicted on Pornography, Underage Sex Charges

You remember Virginia state legislator Joe Morrissey: Last year it was learned the 56-year-old Democrat delegate was under investigation in relation to a sleepover with underage girl.

That was 10 months ago. Now a grand jury has finally indicted him:

HENRICO — A special grand jury today issued five indictments against Del. Joseph D. Morrissey, D-Henrico, adding to a long political and legal career marked by controversy, sanctions and, now, allegations of illicit sex.
The charges by the grand jury meeting in Henrico include felony counts of indecent liberties with a minor, possession of pornographic images of an underage female and of solicitation to obtain the images.
“He had sex with her twice in his law office and texted someone about it,” special prosecutor William Neely said.
Morrissey also was indicted on a felony charge of distribution of child pornography and a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Another typical Democrat sex offender. Allegedly.

Those of us who participated in Scouts in our youth (I made it to Star Scout and my older brother made Life Scout) have no trouble explaining our common sense objections to “equality” in this context, but if radical ideologues cared about common sense, they wouldn’t be radical ideologues, would they?

The #HobbyLobby Hysteria

Years ago, while reporting on federally funded research — the infamous “porn arousal” studies at Northwestern University — I developed what I like to think of as the Existential Theory of Liberalism: To a liberal, nothing exists unless it is mandated, subsidized and/or regulated by the federal government.

If you think it is a waste of taxpayer money to give a creepy psychology professor a federal grant to measure women’s sexual arousal to pornography, you will be condemned as “anti-sex.” If you want to reduce deficit spending by limiting tax money for the National Endowment of the Arts, you’re “anti-art.” Don’t agree with proposed EPA environmental regulations? You’re “anti-science.”

The reaction to today’s Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case — where a business objected, as a matter of religious liberty, to ObamaCare’s mandated insurance coverage for contraceptives — is a case in point: Liberals want us to believe that, unless businesses are compelled by federal law to provide contraception to their employees, contraception will cease to exist.

Their arguments are absurd, but if liberals were capable of understanding facts and logic, they wouldn’t be liberals, would they?

Gender Theory Madness: Gay Man Gets ‘Doxed’ Because of His ‘Transphobia’

In case you missed my posts over the weekend — “Tranarchy: Gender Theory = Insanity” and “Inmates Run the Facebook Asylum” — the long-running online war between transgender activists and radical lesbian feminists has been heating up lately. The two sides of the battle front are essentially this: Transactivists say it is “hate” to criticize them or refuse to participate in their pronoun-switching charades; radical dykes insist that, however fungible “gender” may be, feminism is still about the condition of women as a biologically determined category, which involves XX chromosomes, ovaries and so forth.

The latest example of how weird this war has become: “Jay Allen” is a gay man whose blog is called “Who Is Cis?” That is to say, he is dubious of the attempt by transactivists (who use the prefix “cis-” as an antonym of “trans-“) to deal with biological categories as a social problem that needs to be “theorized.” He respects radical feminists’ insistence on the importance of “female only” spaces. (Hint: If you think make-believe male lesbians, including “transitioning” shemales with penises, shouldn’t be permitted to use public restrooms for women, you’re a hater, according to transgender activists.)

On Friday, Twitter user @Anon_Redteam, who identifies as a member of Anonymous, “doxed” @WhoIsCis”, publishing his personal information in order to expose this gay man to harassment.

The conflict between radical feminism and transgender activists dates back more than three decades. Janice Raymond and Sheila Jeffreys (both of whom are lesbians and Women’s Studies professors, but I repeat myself) have remained firm in their insistence on speaking bluntly about what transgenderism signifies, psychologically and politically. As a conservative who considers feminism a mental disorder in its own right, I nevertheless find myself nodding in agreement with much of what these women say about the transgender phenomenon. Their totalitarian enemies even tried to get the radical feminists listed by the SPLC as a “hate group,” which tells you these dykes must be doing something right:

Gender Identity Watch founder Cathy Brennan tells the Voice she found efforts to pressure Routledge not to publish Jeffreys’s work “very frightening,” adding that she’s deeply troubled by “the idea that [Jeffreys], as an academic publishing a book, should have someone looking over her shoulder to make sure she’s using approved language.” . . .
An attorney who once campaigned for a Maryland nondiscrimination law that would have included legal protections for sexual orientation and gender identity, Brennan says the campaign against her is “based on this idea that if you don’t toe a specific line” — i.e., accept trans women on their own terms — “you’re a Hitler/Nazi/hater/bigot.”

Read the whole thing and make up your own mind.

The First Amendment guarantees not only free speech and a free press, but it also recognizes freedom of association. The right to assemble peacefully means that feminists don’t have to invite transvestites to a women-only conference. It is insanity to complain that you are a victim of “discrimination” because actual women — y’know, the kind who were born with a vagina and stuff — don’t accept your surgical simulacrum as valid for membership in their club.

While covering the 2008 election, I signed up for e-mail alerts from the Obama campaign and my inbox is routinely flooded with crap. However, it’s useful to see what kind of desperate appeals the Democrats are sending to their supporters, like the one sent this morning by the Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) “from” Joe Biden:
