PHOTO: ‘Model Citizen’ Kaitlyn Hunt Helps Sister in 2-on-1 Beach Beatdown
Posted on | June 2, 2013 | 91 Comments
Five days ago, I called attention to the video in which alleged victim of homophobia Kaitlyn Hunt screams at her younger sister: “Beat her f**king ass, Emily! Beat her ass! Get that bitch!”
Someone who was present for this incident captured the image above, which shows Kaitlyn — with the telltale bird tattoo on her right shoulder — turning this fight into a 2-on-1 beatdown of the other girl.
Are we really surprised that some local gay-rights groups aren’t supporting the “Free Kate” campaign on Hunt’s behalf?
Who wants to join the herd of credulous people who were deceived by Kaitlyn’s mother’s May 17 Facebook post, which described her as “wonderful . . . exemplary . . . respected and well liked . . . never been in trouble, ever, she truly is the model student and child”? Who really believes that Kaitlyn Ashley Hunt (Booking #2013-00000708) is, as her lawyer has claimed, a “model citizen“?
Is this how “model citizens” behave? Have law enforcement authorities in Indian River County seen this video?
Shouldn’t they be investigating this incident as an assault?
After the initial fact-deficient hysteria, which portrayed Kaitlyn Hunt as a martyr for the cause of equality, Matt Ross says it “seems that calmer voices are starting to prevail.”
Let’s hope so. Another blogger coins the word “Trayvoned” to describe this myth-making process: The media provide a carefully constructed narrative of victimhood and, by the time countervailing facts emerge, the crusading mob is already emotionally invested.
S.J. Reidhead compiles some of the more vicious examples of irrational hate generated by the “Free Kate” mob, including a Canadian transsexual named Amber Dawn Redman who wants to see conservative Christians “tied . . . to a stake, tortured and burned.”
Again, are we really surprised by this? What do we expect of people who celebrate a violent tattooed she-hooligan like Kaitlyn Hunt?
“Beat her f**king ass, Emily! Beat her ass! Get that bitch!”
You stay classy, Hunt family . . .

Chief symptom of Oldest Child Syndrome: Obsession with birth-order studies as explaining everything. huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/31/mid… Just sayin’ …
— Robert Stacy McCain (@rsmccain) June 2, 2013
The belief that we have found the Rosetta Stone of human personality — the one factor that lets us analyze others as “types” — is not new, but the study of temperament isn’t very interesting to us sanguine/cholerics.
(Grin.)
There is an old joke that all people can be divided into two broad categories, the largest of which is “Arrogant Assholes Who Think All People Can Be Divided Into Two Broad Categories.”
Few people will endorse a schema of human traits that does not flatter them personally. The belief that we possess Special Insight into the personalities of others is always enormously flattering — “We are so wise!” — and the natural desire to think well of ourselves is the subject of two books that I frequently recommend:
- The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy by Thomas Sowell; and
- The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminished Expectations, by Christopher Lasch.
Now, it must be remarked that Lasch was both a man of the Left and a Freudian, so you will find certain obsolete analyses and expressions of unfortunate prejudice in his book. Nevertheless, his insight into how the post-1960s culture reflected of a society-wide tendency toward narcissistic traits was right on target — and Lasch’s work was praised by many conservatives at the time.
Sowell’s excellence scarcely needs recommending to any conservative reader, but if you’ve never read The Vision of the Anointed, or if it has been a few years since you read it, please try this: Read Sowell and Lasch back-to-back and cross-reference their insights.
People with damaged egos have a desperate need to feel good about themselves and, over the past half-century, changes in American society have left a lot of ego-damaged people floating around out there, seeking personal validation through politics, the way people once sought validation in cult religions and astrology.
“Hey, baby — let me guess: Scorpio, right?”
You’ve got about an 8% chance of being right on a hustle like that and if she says, “No, I’m a Leo,” your next line is obvious: “Really? But I’m guessing you’ve probably got a Scorpio moon, right?” Given that most people have never done a full chart, she’s got no idea, but if she is into astrology — and back in the ’70s, it was a big thing — she’s going to be intrigued by your pretended insight.
Of course, the whole point of that line is to find out if she’s into astrology, because chicks who are into astrology are easy.
Did anybody else notice John Edwards’s baby-mama Rielle Hunter was all into that kind of foolish “New Age” stuff? Bingo.
On the one hand, such ready-made belief systems — whether it’s astrology or Marxism or birth-order analysis — are just a hustle.
On the other hand, although the fashionable nonsense changes from decade to decade, the type of personality who buys into fashionable nonsense remains fairly consistent. So if you’re into the Latest Thing (whatever that thing may be) you have thereby classified yourself as the type of person who is always into the Latest Thing.
Think about that, OK?
@timkpman But I expect someone to tell me next that middle children are prone to over-analysis. Tautology!

Marshall University Journalism Professor Expresses Violent Fantasies Against NRA
Posted on | June 2, 2013 | 62 Comments
Professor Christopher Swindell rants in February 2011 YouTube video
America’s university faculty lounges harbor totalitarians, and Christopher Swindell, Ph.D., is a campus commissar of communications at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. His field of expertise apparently includes Hating Right-Wingers 101:
Watching the celebration at the NRA convention over the defeat of background checks was the most nauseating experience of the day.
Coherent sentences are optional for Professor Swindell:
This foaming at the mouth, Obamar is coming for the guns, Nanny Bloomberg is a bad billionaire, and most despicable of all, those survivors and victims are pawns in the liberal agenda is knuckle-dragging Cretan talk.
(He means “cretin,” unless the professor or his spell-check program intend an insult to residents of the Greek island of Crete.)
And no matter how many times Sen. Joe Manchin tries to explain his compromise (a decent attempt thwarted by extremists), the hard right lies and foams. The repeated lies now seem like the truth, what with the likes of Sen. Kelly Ayotte telling them.
Probably the most serious miscalculation opponents make is the guest list for the NRA speaker’s podium. To let the half-wit half-term quitter Sarah Palin have a microphone is to alienate the very people Republicans need to work with on future legislation. To say nothing of the other speakers. . . .
A journalism professor wrote this ranting gibberish? I’ve seen better prose in the comments at Daily Kos. Eventually, Professor Swindell gets around to making his point — The Glorious People’s Army must crush this reactionary insurrection of the kulak saboteurs!
The NRA advocates armed rebellion against the duly elected government of the United States of America. That’s treason, and it’s worthy of the firing squad. . . .
Normally, I am a peaceable man, but in this case, I am willing to answer the call to defend the country. From them.
To turn the song lyric they so love to quote back on them, “We’ll put a boot in your —, it’s the American way.”
Except it won’t be a boot. It’ll be an M1A Abrams tank, supported by an F22 Raptor squadron with Hellfire missiles. Try treason on for size. See how that suits. And their assault arsenal and RPGs won’t do them any good.
Do Professor Swindell’s colleagues on the Marshall University journalism faculty approve these sentiments? Do the taxpayers of West Virginia know that they’re paying this semi-literate clown to teach journalism to their young people? I’m sure readers will be shocked — shocked! — to discover that Professor Swindell agrees with Charles Johnson:
“Stop treating climate change as a myth. Good conservatives should abandon leaders who take this settled issue and kick it like a political football.”
That’s from Professor Swindell’s 2011 YouTube rant entitled, “Why we’re not getting along.” Of course, he’s a semi-literate journalism professor and not a climate scientist, but I’m sure “good conservatives” won’t mind letting Christopher Swindell, Ph.D., tell them who their leaders should be, just like I’m sure the taxpayers of West Virginia don’t mind paying the salary of a professor whose environmental agenda would effectively shut down the coal industry.
One of the few sane men left in academia sees this as further proof of the Higher Education Bubble. More commentary at Weasel Zippers and Twitchy. Background reading from Bryan Preston at PJ Tatler.
2004: Kaitlyn Hunt’s Father ‘Pressured a Victim Not to File a Battery Charge’
Posted on | June 1, 2013 | 52 Comments
How did Steven R. Hunt Jr. become an ex-cop?
May 21, 2004 — WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A police officer involved in a nightclub quarrel resigned after an internal affairs review showed he pressured a victim not to file a battery charge, officials said Thursday.
Sgt. Steve Hunt, who joined the West Melbourne Police Department in 1996, resigned Tuesday after the internal investigation on official misconduct allegations was completed.
Reports show Hunt lied to his supervisors about contacting a man he had gotten into an argument with on Oct. 11 [2003].
The incident happened at the 702 Nightclub in downtown Melbourne, said Sgt. Sean Riordan, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department.
“It was a disturbance where one person pushed another,” Riordan said. No arrests were made, but West Melbourne investigators found Hunt placed multiple calls to the other man and convinced him not to pursue a battery charge, reports show.
So in 2004, when Kaitlyn was 9, her father got fired as a cop after he “lied to his supervisors” about a “quarrel,” an “argument,” a “disturbance” — as the “incident” is variously described — that took place at a nightclub in Melbourne, and then “pressured a victim.”
And by 2012, he was arrested for fraud.

Don’t #FreeKate: The Hunt Family’s Hate
Posted on | June 1, 2013 | 41 Comments
Evading responsibility is really what the “Free Kate” movement is all about. Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar has mentioned the messages between Kaitlyn Hunt and the 14-year-old: She knew it was illegal and she did it anyway. This whole thing is the fault of Kaitlyn and her family, as I explained in a comment earlier today:
There was a troll commenter on an earlier post — who got zapped by Wombat before I could reply to her idiocy. Her argument included this:
“There has to be a different way to treat these cases. Punish, yes. At 18 ruin all their chances of leading a useful life, no. … Not all states punish offenders like Kate the way Florida does. Kate was not offered a good deal and sex offender registry still loomed as a possibility. … She needs to pay her debt to society but not be burned at the stake of public opinion.”
Well, who was it that decided to appeal this case to the Court of Public Opinion?
Who was it that put up Facebook posts and a Change.org petition that deliberately misrepresented key facts in the case (including the ages of the two girls) and made Kate Hunt’s sterling character — a “model student,” according to her mother — a central part of the argument for leniency?
As I have said before but will say again: This was just a commonplace local cops-and-courts story until Kelley and Steve Hunt decided to turn Precious Kate into a poster girl for the gay-rights movement. By the time I even noticed this story (May 22), there were already more than 200,000 signatures on that “Free Kate” petition, which was crammed full of lies and perforated by omissions of basic facts. If the truth about this case had been known from the beginning — if the Hunt family hadn’t lied, and if liberals hadn’t stupidly repeated their lies — there never would have been a “story” here for me to cover.
Now that I am covering it, I find myself accused of trying to have Kaitlyn Hunt “burned at the stake” when — as anyone can see — it was Kaitlyn and her family who have sown the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind. It was Kaitlyn’s crime that caused this. It was Kaitlyn’s family’s lies that made it a national story. It was Kaitlyn’s refusal to accept the plea deal that now has her facing a court date for a felony in which her admission of guilt is already a matter of public record.
At every step of the way, Kaitlyn and her family were in control of their own destiny, faced with choices between right and wrong AND THEY DID THE WRONG THING EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Hey, you should have taken the plea deal, sweetheart. Don’t blame me for the consequences.
Let’s not forget that Kaitlyn’s mother Kelley Hunt Smith named the parents of the 14-year-old nine times in her deceitful May 17 Facebook post, deliberately unleashing hell against that family:
May 19-20 #FreeKate supporters dox 14-year-old’s family: “fucking bunch of bible thumpers” twitter.com/floridavkaitly… | @floridavkaitlyn
— Robert Stacy McCain (@rsmccain) June 1, 2013
Ah, but the monstrously vindictive Hunts are crying “mercy” now.
