Confirmed: ‘Occupy’ Movement Is a Wretched Hive of Villainous Scum

Posted on | July 11, 2012 | 69 Comments

“Jew-haters, commies, psychotics, rapists — the Occupy movement is like a roach-motel for scum.”
— Robert Stacy McCain, Nov. 25, 2011

One of the things you learn if you study crime long enough is that criminality tends to be a general trait. Criminals do not limit themselves to specialties. The car thief is often also a small-time dope dealer, and the dope-dealing car thief doesn’t have much compunction about committing the occasional rape or aggravated assault.

This is part of the reason the “broken windows” approach to law enforcement works: When police start paying attention to seemingly minor infractions of the law, the people they bring under scrutiny necessarily include a certain number of career criminals. Pull over a car for failing to signal a left turn, run the driver’s ID through the computer system and — surprise! — he’s got a warrant for a probation violation. Search his car, find a dime bag of dope or a pistol, and it’s back to prison for the habitual offender.

Crime tends to cluster. It’s a pattern, rooted in an attitude, a worldview, a belief system involving a selfish disrespect for the social order.

What happens, then, when a political movement arises which celebrates the anti-social attitudes commonly held by criminals? Naturally, such a movement becomes a magnet for punks, hoodlums and thugs, and the crime wave associated with the “Occupy” protests wasn’t surprising. All of which is preamble to today’s not-so-shocking news:

Officials have linked forensic evidence from the 2004 murder scene of a 21-year-old Juilliard student to the scene of a recent Occupy Wall Street subway protest, NBC 4 New York has learned.
DNA evidence from the scene of Sarah Fox’s murder in Inwood Hill Park eight years ago has been connected to DNA from a chain left in a subway station by Occupy protesters in March, NBC 4 New York first reported Tuesday.
Fox was found nude and strangled in the park in May 2004, days after she disappeared during a daytime jog. Investigators recovered her pink CD player in the woods just yards from her body.
Sources said Tuesday the DNA found on the CD player matches DNA found on a chain left by Occupy Wall Street protesters at the Beverly Road subway station in East Flatbush on March 28, 2012.

Via Memeorandum, which also has the New York Times version of the story. It should be emphasized that this DNA match doesn’t necessarily solve the crime. Police say it is possible that the DNA on Sarah Fox’s CD player was from one of her friends, and not from her killer.

However, if this DNA found at the scene of an Occupy protest does belong to Fox’s killer, it is hardly “a bizarre turn” in the case.

The Occupy movement is organized on the principle of lawless hostility to private property. And you know what they call lawless people who are hostile to private property? Criminals.

UPDATE: Thanks to the commenter who points out that the post title is a near-miss of a line in Star Wars by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who describes the space-port town of Mos Eisley as a “wretched hive of scum and villainy.” The implied comparison to the patrons of the Mos Eisley Cantina is probably too flattering to the Occupy scum who attempted to storm the AFP Summit in D.C. last fall.

Federal Bureaucracy: Doomsday Machine

by Smitty

Echoing VodkaPundit’s rejection of Star Wars (I have never esteemed it above mildly entertaining space opera, myself) we’re going reaching back to Denny Crane’s old show for a metaphor to mock Politico’s risible title: “Southern governors secede from Medicaid”

Darn right, Lachlan. Progressives behave as if the collapse of these United States into a single uber-State (destined for UN assimilation) is some foregone conclusion. As though every single velvet handcuff entitlement program is irrevocable. As though liberty has to be devoured by a doomsday machine.
Politico:

Govs. Rick Perry in Texas and Rick Scott in Florida have both said they won’t expand Medicaid to more of the working poor in their states — rejecting a central part of the law designed to cover 15 million more Americans.
. . .
The reluctance of other GOP governors suggests they’re not at all sure that rejecting a big infusion of Medicaid cash makes for good policy or good politics. In fact, they’re trying to recast the problem as one that Obama must solve.

If you were so crazy as to take a common sense look at economics, you might naively think that economic effort of citizens bubbles up through states funds the federal government.

Progressives basically admit that the system is broken, and all runs backwards. We don’t budget at all, and haven’t had a balanced budget in recent memory.

Thus, ‘Zimbabwe’ Ben Bernanke is pulling money out the nether end of the Doomsday Machine, creating suction to draw in the states. It is a shameful, dishonest, un-American process. That tarted-up Star Trek image pretty well sums not only this idiotic health care debate, but the November election in general.

Stop the Bureaucratic Doomsday Machine!

Demand liberty!

Separated At Birth: Beckel Boy / Tommy Boy Edition

Posted on | July 10, 2012 | 8 Comments

by Smitty

Oh, the vagaries of fate! How the one can grow up with at least a modicum of Falstaffian humor, whereas the other couldn’t crack a joke if it was written on an eggshell and he sat on it.

Take a look, courtesy of AmericanInfidel on Twitter, at Beckel Boy trying to say something, anything(!) in response to Allen West:
Watch through until the end, when they juxtapose Beckel Boy a la Randee of the Redwoods with LtCol West in military attire.

I’ll tell you what: there’s more intelligence in that headband that I’ve got on than the guy on the right.

See, Beckel Boy, when you want to play to the audience’s sympathy for the fat man character in the face of being overmatched by someone clearly your superior in every way, you need to cleave more closely to your brother Tommy Boy:

In any case, Beckel Boy, you aren’t fit to gainsay Allen West in the slightest, so lay by your dish in silence.

The Coming Implosion of Salon.com

Posted on | July 10, 2012 | 19 Comments

Iowahawk today pointed out the omens that Alex Pareene’s current employer is unlikely to survive another year:

In a sign that Salon is very close to being shuttered, the company “lost” its CEO and CFO recently. . . . At the end of the final quarter of 2011, Salon had $149,000 in the bank against short-term liabilities that included $12.7 million in loans. During the same quarter, Salon lost $997,000 on revenue of $1.03 million.

This is just further confirmation of what I wrote in April:

Salon is basically the cockroach of Web ‘zines. Begun in the age of dial-up modems, it has survived the dot-com bubble, the rise of blogs and social networking, etc. While it has survived, however, no one can say that Salon has thrived. It spent a dozen years as a Slate wannabe before trying to re-invent itself as a weak imitation of HuffPo or something.
No one knows how much money Salon has lost since 1995, although it was estimated last year that its annual operating loss was $1.5 million. So, cumulative losses by now are probably somewhere between $20 million and a metric buttload.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that “investors” in such an enterprise don’t care how much money they lose, but are simply taking a tax write-off to support left-wing journalism. At some point, then, the calculation is more about political utility than about revenue potential.

OK, so in a oprogressive online media environment now crowded with HuffPo, Daily Kos, TPM, Think Progress, etc., where is the political utility of a maintaining a persistent loser like Salon? Where is the suggestion that Salon is having any meaningful impact? Or is it possible that Salon’s funders consider it their patriotic duty to provide an outlet for Glenn Greenwald’s unique brand of anti-patriotism?

A fool and his money are soon parted, and fools have wasted more money on less viable media entities. But why bring Current TV into this?

UPDATE (Smitty): Welcome, Instapundit readers. Please enjoy a chuckle at the expense of that Bolshevik blowhard Bob Beckel.

UPDATE II (RSM): Thanks to the commenter who points out that last month Salon indicated it was trying to sell The Well (Well.com):

“As other online communities and social networks emerged over the years, The Well’s subscriber base dwindled to 2,693, which did not bear financial promise.”

They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

Permit Me to Remind You: Obama Still Has More Campaign Cash Than Mitt

Posted on | July 10, 2012 | 20 Comments

A fact I pointed out yesterday:

[T]he Obama campaign entered June with a cash-on-hand advantage of more than $90 million ($109 million to Romney’s $17 million). And during May, Team Obama out-spent Team Mitt by nearly $30 million ($44.6 million to Romney’s $15.6 million).

Keep that in mind when you read this:

Senior White House adviser David Plouffe on Tuesday accused wealthy Mitt Romney supporters of trying to “purchase the White House,” one day after the presumptive GOP nominee announced a $106 million June fundraising haul that stunned the Obama campaign.
“You’ve got a few very wealthy people lining up trying to purchase the White House for Mr. Romney,” said Plouffe on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “We’re going to have to have everybody out there who wants the president to continue to a second term to step up and help the campaign.”

video platform video management video solutions video player

Romney and the RNC had a good month in June, but I guarantee you this: When the June FEC reports are released later this month, Obama will still have more cash on hand than Romney, and the FEC reports will show Obama’s campaign out-spent Romney’s campaign in June, just as they’ve outspent Romney every month since February.

Seriously: Even while Romney was fighting tooth-and-nail in a three-way GOP primary battle against Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum, his campaign still spent less than $12.4 million in February, compared to nearly $12.6 million Obama’s campaign spent in February.

Yet David Plouffe, sitting atop a vast mountain of campaign cash, expects us to believe that there are no “wealthy people lining up” for Obama!

Essay Contest Winner: ‘Why I’m Not a Democrat, in Three Words’

Posted on | July 10, 2012 | 16 Comments

And those three words are, “Debbie Wasserman Schultz“:

Disclosure forms reveal that Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a member of Congress from Florida, previously held funds with investments in Swiss banks, foreign drug companies, and the state bank of India. This revelation comes mere days after the Democratic chair attacked presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for holding money in Swiss bank accounts in the past.

At least there’s no need to out-source hypocrisy, eh?
