Looking Forward To GBTV

Gabby Hoffman on Twitter tipped me to her Washington Times review of the Glenn Beck TV launch:
Do you miss Glenn Beck, his chalkboard, and his Fox News show? Want the latest from Beck and Mercury Radio Arts? Fear not: conservative commentator and radio talk show host Glenn Beck is coming to a computer near you! Launching GBTV on September 12, 2011 the show’s tagline is “The Truth Lives Here”.
Accordingly, the conservative commentator’s television network promises to be unlike any other and the first episode of “The Glenn Beck Show” under the GBTV banner was impressive.
Since leaving Fox News Channel in June, Beck has worked tirelessly to produce high-quality material to viewers and subscribers. The quality of production was impeccable, as there were no glitches or problems viewing the show.
Pay attention, conservatives who have brushed off Beck, due to his Boehner-esque commitment to facial flooding on Fox: Beck’s research is quality stuff, and his audience has reach.
For example, I had sent the link to GBTV to my father, who’s Luddism exceeds even the legendary aversion to technology embodied in Robert Stacy McCain, and father allowed that, if I spot him a subscription, he’ll watch. Father digs him some Beck. So, when I get back to reality later this month, I’ll be signing up.
If my dad is a representative sample, then Glenn Beck may be a gateway drug to Glenn Reynolds. And you know what they say: once you go Instapun’, there’s no end to the fun.
Also, a review of the first hour of GBTV at Bride of Rove.

Just because you’ve become comfortable with the list on the ship of state does not justify inaction to correct the flooding problem.
Althouse references Ed Kilgore:
Every moment they spend sparring over the New Deal and Great Society is a boon to Barack Obama. Even if the incumbent cannot win a referendum on his own presidency, he can win a competition between the ghost of Barry Goldwater and the ghosts of FDR and LBJ.
Boo, hiss. I voted for Ross Perot in ’92, and I’m unafraid to support a non-GOP conservative with the integrity to face down our problems.
- Quantitative Easing is theft.
- Social Security, and all federal entitlements, really, are a Ponzi scheme.
- Frivolously spending more than we can ever possibly repay is immoral.
I can moderate that slightly by allowing for some gradual righting of the ship of state: we don’t have to try to do things so rapidly that people are wildly tossed about. That’s a style point. Substantially, any candidate had better explain where they’re rigging pumps and doing some serious de-watering.
Trying to ‘make nice’ with our problems, in the name of appeal to moderates does nothing but ensure the ship of state will capsize. At that rate, shag it: just vote for BHO, and let’s flip this byotch soonest. I, for one, have good swimming skills.
Therein lies the rub: it’s not about me, it’s about caring enough not to let a ship driven by Progressive fools capsize without an extended struggle for liberty.

RULE 5 MONDAY
Posted on | September 13, 2011 | 2 Comments
— compiled by Wombat-socho
Because sometimes Sunday just has too much going on, you know?
Normally we wrap this post up with the Daley Gator, but since he was a bit late last week and we’re being all born-again about punctuality, you had to wait for Vanessa Minillo, Rosa Blazi, and the ever-fabulous Eliza Dushku, to say nothing of some gals promoting real estate, a random selection of hotness, and some questions about the SPCU.
Soylent Green’s leftovers include a cornea cleanser, some Greek Monday Motivationers, some Tuesday morning delight, Mariana Diarco, Striptease Fun, Olga and Axia, something about Australia, lingerie substituting for corsets, Carmen Berg, and some hints to the local paper on how not to fail. Now, for this week, he’s got Heidi the Monday Motivationer, Alessandra for Hump Day hotness, some news in brief (sic) about Catalina Robayo, and some more Friday ephemera.
Bring The Heat, Bring the Stupid purveys some leftover Daniela Ruah and also asks us to link Brea Canyon Monument for more Daniela. Certainly!
Fishersville Mike kicks off the new faces this week with Big Bang Theory‘s Katie Leclerc, and Randy’s Roundtable shows us what he was up to last Wednesday and Thursday with respect to Rule 5. Eye of Polyphemus gets back to SF babes with Heroes alumnus Hayden Panettiere, and Reaganite Republican continues his string of hot Romanians with Miss Universe. Elsewhere in the world of beauty pageants, the Rio Norte Line notes the exploits of Miss Commando – I mean, Miss Colombia! A View From The Beach profiles Kate Beckinsale and also has something about redheads plotting world domination.
Jake Finnegan’s Burkalesque Babe this week is Mila Kunis, and let us all remember Jake’s wisdom as it applies to Ms. Kunis: “There is no IQ test for cheesecake.” Amen, Jake. Amen.
El Opinador Compulsivo has a string of pictures for which words are not sufficient. Also, Laura Michelle Prestin! As an encore, someone you could introduce to your Jewish grandma, the weekly potpourri, and a selection of Argentinian Opiladies dedicated to Soylent Green.
This week Dustbury has Jessica Simpson and Freezepop lead singer/lyricist Liz Enthusiasm. Proof Positive offers Amanda Tapping, vintage babe Carroll Baker, and in the weekly Sex In Advertising feature, Cindy Crawford. At The Camp Of The Saints, it’s Kelly Monaco and India Allen bracketing the weekly Rule 5 News.
For once, we end as we began, with the DaleyGator and his bevy of DaleyBabes. This week, Logan Browning, Marie Blanchard, Jessica Simpson, Katherine McPhee, Alicia Keys, Carrie Underwood, and Alessandra Rosaldo. In addition, there’s a “Who’s Hotter” contest between Margot Robbie and Jennifer Morrison and a Rule 5 roundup!
Thanks to everyone for their links! To be included in next week’s Rule 5 linkagery, please send your links to Rule 5 Wombat by Saturday, September 17.

Wasserman-Schultz Says Republicans ‘Worship at the Altar of the Tea Party’
Posted on | September 12, 2011 | 10 Comments
TAMPA, Fla.
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz just gave a press conference here that I wrote up for the American Spectator blog:
Republicans are “desperate to appease the Tea Party,” Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz said, hours before GOP candidates were due to appear in a debate co-sponsored by the Tea Party Express.
“Tonight, I think we are likely to hear the Republican candidates for president continue to worship at the altar of the Tea Party,” Wasserman-Schultz told reporters here. Viewers “won’t find a candidate on stage tonight with a plan to do anything but return to the policies that we’re all so familiar with and that got us into this mess in the first place.”
Republicans “would shred the safety net” of Social Security and Medicare, Wasserman-Schultz said in her press conference at the Florida State Fairgrounds. “At least [Texas Gov.] Rick Perry was honest about his hostility toward Social Security, calling it a ‘Ponzi scheme.’ . . . But Mitt Romney was not straightforward about his support for privatizing Social Security, a scheme that would be as dangerous to the future of the program as Rick Perry’s attitude and rhetoric.”
Read the rest. Here’s the video:
UPDATE: Here’s a photo of the press conference:

So, Does This Mean Bono Should Be The Front Man For Rammstein?
Posted on | September 12, 2011 | 15 Comments
by Smitty (via Insty)
Surber ojects vigorously to rock stars ascribing American citizenship to themselves:
No, Bono, is not an American — one day a year or 365. Who in the heck does this pompous Irish think he is standing in Canada and presuming that he is an American? When did he stand in line to get the paperwork done so he could establish a residency? When did he take and pass the Citizenship Test? When did he raise that right hand and swear to God and everyone else his allegiance to the Greatest Land Of All?
He is not even a Bono. His name is Paul David Hewson. He does not even pronounce the name right. That is a long O as in Sonny Bono, who was a true American son of legal immigrants who worked his way up from nothing, learned the music business, built an entertainment empire and then became mayor of Palm Springs and a congressman.
In defense of Hewson, at least he was never romantically linked to Cher.
But Bono is not the first to make this claim. One predecessor was the German thrash outfit Rammstein:
Something about dudes in space suits rocking on the moon just strikes me as funny. Sharp-eyed Twitter users may recognize my avatar, mooched from this video. (Follow me, please: it’s embarrassing that RMS has four times the followers that I do.)
But, hey: if Rammstein is living in America, and Bono is an American, should Bono go ahead and front the band? Maybe they could go on a tour performing Grateful Dead material through a squishy-Christian/thrash filter. Is there a career for me managing musical acts?
