Heroic Marine Assaults Enemy Stronghold
Posted on | October 19, 2010 | 24 Comments
That stronghold being Maryland’s 5th Congressional District, where House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer is pinned down under heavy fire from Republican challenger Charles Lollar:
You know the Democrats are in trouble when Steny Hoyer hits the airwaves in his campaign to retain his seat in Congress. Hoyer, whose seat was generously drawn for him by Maryland Senate President Mike Miller, usually uses his campaign largesse to benefit his Democratic Party colleagues with little thought of himself.
That changed due to an aggressive campaign by first-time candidate Charles Lollar, who is making inroads into previous Hoyer strongholds in Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
Lollar, who served in the Marine Corps, is taking the same no-nonsense approach to going after the previously unassailable Hoyer that has earned the U.S. Marine Corps worldwide respect and, yes, a little bit of fear.
Steny, who famously bragged in past campaigns that he is a “tax, tax, spend, spend Democrat,” has, through the magic of political advertising, been transformed into a statesman whom the good people of the 5th congressional district of Maryland cannot do without. . . .
Read the whole thing by Rick Manning in The Hill. Three weeks ago, after Smitty and I had lunch with Charles Lollar, I reminded you:
Now, thanks to your help, Maj. Lollar has Steny Hoyer in his sights. How about giving another $20 to help Charles Lollar finish the fight?
This is truly a heroic battle. The Lollar campaign is run entirely by volunteers, with strong Tea Party support, and an upset victory in MD-5 would shock the nation. Every “Dollar for Lollar” makes a difference. Please do all you can to help.
CHARLES LOLLAR for U.S. CONGRESS
UPDATE: Maj. Lollar gets an “oo-rah!” from Dan Riehl.
UPDATE II: In desperation, Rahm Emanuel sends out a fund-raising e-mail to help the DCCC get more money to pay for more misleading ads to smear Republicans.
UPDATE III: Welcome, Instapundit readers! The question is now raised of an “apocalyptic scenario” for Democrats in two weeks, but as Professor Reynolds keeps reminding us, don’t get cocky!

A Ronald Reagan Tribute From Daniel Hannan

Reagan and his ranch feature prominently in I Want Your Money, as well as this splendid post by Hannan:
The casual visitor wouldn’t guess that this had been the home of the leader of the free world, this the table where the greatest tax cut in America’s history was signed into law, this the telephone used to call the families of fallen American soldiers. Other than one or two historical works among the cowboy novels, the only political touch is the shower-head, which is in the shape of the Liberty Bell. Here, plainly, lived a man who was bien dans sa peau; a man who, unlike so many politicians, had nothing to prove. Mikhail Gorbachev, visiting the ranch, was distressed by how basic it was; Margaret Thatcher, by contrast, loved it, intuiting that it reflected the character of its inhabitant.
Read the whole superbly written thing. Also hanging ten is Hannan’s new release, The New Road To Surfdom, which would be, like, way tasty dude, were the subject matter less dire.
‘Could You Say Senator, Instead Of Ma’am. It’s Just A Thing. I Worked So Hard To Get That Endorsement. Wait. Give It Back!’

Napalm, in addition to sticking to less savory things, sticks to the VFW-PAC. Blackfive reports the smell of that napalm in the morning, claiming the PAC and its endorsement of Senator Boxer. From the memo:
It is now evident to most of the VFW leadership, both National and especially the
departments, that the VFW has been subjected to extreme negative publicity throughout the nation, and the recent endorsement decisions have, in fact, harmed the VFW’ s reputation and future ability to fulfill our mission.I cannot let this erosion of public support for our great organization continue. The apparent lack of the committee to address these concerns will lead to a proposal by me, as Commander-in-Chief, to amend the by-laws at the 112th National Convention for the purpose of dissolving the PAC. Meanwhile, under the authority granted to me as Commander-in-Chief in section 619 of the VFW National By-Laws and under section
620 of the Manual of Procedure, I am withdrawing all PAC appointments effective October 15, 2010.
Senator Boxer’s relationship with the military has always been so cordial, so steeped in proper address:
This blog would like to register a formal ‘Tee Hee Hee’ over this development.

What an unreal season. Stacy McCain has both been linked by AllahPundit and re-Tweeted by Alyssa Milano in the space of a month.
I wonder if I should spill the beans and admit that Allahpundit actually is Alyssa Milano, or keep that under my Fedora. . .
Have Mercy, Been Waitin’ For The Tea Party Express All Day

A couple of images, via email from the Tea Party Express:

and the great big little crowd:

The Reverend Billy Gibbons is slightly confused about the route, but still serves up the blues for those Blue states. This looks like a front row recording from some small venue. The sound is slightly underwater, but fuggedaboudit.
The Tea Party Express looks like it’s going to cut through quite a few crucial battlegrounds over the next two weeks. One is nearly moved to feel some pity for the Democrat party, in the vicinity of the left ankle.
But don’t get cocky. I walked over to the local high school and spent over an hour handing out flyers to parents for Patrick Murray and Keith Fimian tonight. You have to Be The Wave, people, or the Left will help itself to your slurpee.
Update: Video at Gateway Pundit.
PA-10: Greetings From Williamsport
Posted on | October 18, 2010 | 3 Comments
Traveling with Pete Da Tech Guy is not just a job, it’s an adventure. We left the home of William Jacobson in Ithaca, N.Y., about 3:30 p.m. and arrived in Williamsport about 6:30. We had called and left messages on the phone number listed on Tom Marino’s Web site, but got no return calls, and the Web site also doesn’t list an office address for the campaign.
So when we got to Williamsport, we had no idea where the headquarters would be. We drove down Third Street through town, turned a couple of corners, then went the other way on Fourth Street, looking for the headquarters. Then we drove past a Sons of Italy lodge. “Hey, Marino’s Italian. I bet they’ll know where the campaign headquarters is.” Pete goes inside, comes out 10 minutes later and says, “Marino’s sister was there. She gave me directions.” I’m sure Sicilian hand gestures were involved.
Pennsylvania’s 10th District is the first stop on this tour that’s actually rated “leans Republican,” and the most recent poll shows Republican Tom Marino leading 44-38 over Democrat Chris Carney. Currently, five Democrat-held seats in this state — PA-3, PA-5, PA-8, PA-10 and PA-11 — are rated “lean Republican” by Real Clear Politics, so if the Big Red Wave hits on Nov. 2, Pennsylvania will be Ground Zero.
Gallup’s “generic ballot” poll currently shows Republicans with a 17-point lead among likely voters:
If that number holds for the next two weeks, we’re talking about a historic wipeout for the Democrats — Republican gains of 60+ seats. But let’s not take anything for granted.
UPDATE: Jim Geraghty analyzes 118 districts and concludes:
Roughly 100 seats are in play under the broader definition, and it’s hard to see Republicans winning fewer than 40 of them. The ceiling depends on how angry the country is on November 2, but it is pretty darn high . . . 60? 70? 80?
Tom Marino’s campaign manager just arrived here at the Lycoming County Victory Center.
UPDATE II: Marino’s communication director, Jason Fitzgerald, just gave us a briefing on the PA-10 campaign. In June, this campaign was pronounced “DOA” because they only raised about $10,000 in the second quarter (April-June). But in the third quarter (July-September), Marino outraised Carney and, when polls showed the Republican leading, suddenly the campaign took off.
There are only two full-time staffers on this campaign, which relies heavily on grassroots volunteers. One of those volunteers, Hughey Woodring, just got interviewed by Pete Da Tech Guy.
Hughey is the gray-haired guy on the left, and Jason’s the young guy on the right. Pete’s the guy with the camera, of course.
UPDATE III: “Get out and volunteer and get the word out!”
« go back — keep looking »
