Barney Frank Is Scared, and He Hasn’t Even Seen Ladd Ehlinger’s Next Video

When an incumbent congressman has to lend money to his own campaign, the crisis must be very dire indeed. Allahpundit wonders, “What on earth are his internal polls showing him . . . ?”
Hey, when a congressman and his heckler boyfriend fly to the Virgin Islands aboard the private jet of a hedge-fund billionaire in the midst of an economic apocalypse the congressman arguably helped cause . . .
Do you really need polls to tell you that might hurt his chances for re-election? Yeah, I know it’s Massachusetts, but the economy’s in a ditch, and Barney’s up there sippin’ on a Slurpee, so to to speak.
There may be limits even to the credulity of Massachusetts liberals. This ad is now airing on Boston-area TV:
And that’s merely the standard-issue TV ad. Just wait until you see the next Ladd Ehlinger production. Furthermore, as it appears we’re nearing a truly apocalyptic meltdown for the Democrats, I’ll point out a couple more targets of opportunity: John “Married to the Mob” Tierney’s 6th District GOP opponent Bill Hudak is having a money-bomb, and Jim “The Constitution Is Wrong” McGovern’s 3rd District GOP challenger Marty Lamb could use some help, too.
Misery loves company. Help spread the Democrat pain in Massachusetts, so Barney doesn’t suffer alone.
’13 Days and a Wake-Up’

Charles Lollar held a press conference this afternoon in which he closed by saying that we’ve got “13 days and a wake-up” until Nov. 2. Indeed, the time to Election Day is now perilously short, dear friends.
On his way back to Massachusetts, Pete Da Tech Guy stopped in to visit the Fairfax, Va., headquarters of Keith Fimian’s campaign in the 11th District against Gerry Connolly, another Democrat who’s using every dirty trick in the book trying to hide from his record. Keith Fimian is holding Connolly accountable:
VA-11 — which includes George Washington’s Mt. Vernon home — is still rated a “toss-up” by Real Clear Politics, and it’s going to take an all-out effort for the next 13 days to beat Connolly. In Maryland’s 5th District, meanwhile, beating Steny Hoyer might take a miracle. Or a Marine. And as one commenter pointed out earlier, Charles Lollar is known for his gung-ho attitude:
While reading Instapundit, I recognized the name, Charles Lollar, and had to check for myself. Yes, it is the same Charles that I knew from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA. Charles is one of those people that you never forget. It boils down to his infectious positivity, sense of humor and giant smile.
He definitely has a winning personality and it’s no wonder Lollar has got House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer playing defense in a supposedly “safe” Democrat district in Maryland.
Last week, Hoyer told Lollar: “I’m coming after you.” Somehow, I think Steny is going to be much the worse for wear after this engagement. Look at this Lollar TV ad:
Politico says there are 99 Democrat seats at risk. Hell, let’s go for an even 100 — give $20 to Charles Lollar now.
Wherever you are, and whichever candidate you support, your duty now is to do all you can for the next two weeks.

Can George Allen Stage A Comeback?

The Virginia Conservative highlights a FaceBook group “Republicans Against a George Allen comeback” and floats the question about whether he can be rehabilitated.
A couple of points about ol’ George
- He got royally screwed in 2006 by the single most extreme case of yellow journalism I have ever seen. Three syllables. Six letters. A word no one had heard of. As an academic study in propaganda, the Washington comPost merits kudos for turning gold into leaden lede. Other than that, the paper can, and will likely soon, rot, for all I care.
- He accepted the unfairness with grace and class. Unlike some who won election to even higher office in 2008, I’ve never heard of any public hissy fits from Allen over that WaPo smear job. The good President could learn a lesson or two from Allen.
- He has solid résumé. While new blood is desperately needed in Congress, having a few old goats around who know the ropes isn’t completely bad, so long as they’re not too mired in corruption. Tough balance, but Allen’s time out of office is a Good Thing in this respect.
- He’s done yeoman work supporting other GOP candidates, like Patrick Murray.
If you don’t like George Allen, you might think that, like Mitt Romney, he’s too polished. Just a little too cozy with the whole public office thing. Thus, I’d conclude that the ball is in Allen’s court. Some Tea Party engagements, some demonstrated Federalism, maybe a solo in the anti-Progressive chorus, and George could prove a worthy replacement for Jim Webb.
Ultimately, we all need to be hypothetically capable of filling an office should Destiny thrust that upon us. (Please not me, Lord, Mrs. Other Smitty would be having none of that). The point being I don’t care about individuals as such–whoever is Constitutionally grounds, hates the Progressive lies that have bankrupted the country and can win the election is OK by me. Getting out there and supporting candidates is proving a fun experience. If George wins the GOP primary, he’s got my support.

Nearly In Defense Of Thomas Friedman

Goldberg’s demolition is rather thorough, a gold medal fisking, I daresay, but TF can almost be given credit for randomly approaching somewhere:
Friedman is of late very frustrated with America for its failure to do what he says it must. Last September, in one of many columns lamenting that China does things better than we do, he wrote: “Watching both the health care and climate/energy debates in Congress, it is hard not to draw the following conclusion: There is only one thing worse than one-party autocracy, and that is one-party democracy, which is what we have in America today.” He continues: “One-party autocracy certainly has its drawbacks, but when it is led by a reasonably enlightened group of people, as China is today, it can also have great advantages.”
The Point at Which It Was Decided That I Should Probably Let Da Tech Guy Drive

Back home today after a nine-day campaign swing to Massachusetts, New York and Pennsylvania, which ended with a 46-hour road trip with Pete Da Tech Guy. He rented a car for the trip. Given my hillbilly/NASCAR hereditary prowess at high-speed driving, I drove most of the way. And then, traveling through western New York, we saw the sign that warned it was time for Pete to take the wheel. Read more
BHO Survived Taping An Episode For Mythbusters

by Smitty (via The Constitution Club)
Yahoo reports on the story:
He also announced his appearance in an episode of “Mythbusters,” a Discovery Channel program that uses science to uncover the truth behind urban legends. Obama has already taped his appearance and the episode is scheduled to air Dec. 8. Discovery said that episode will consider whether Greek scientist Archimedes set fire to an invading Roman fleet using only mirrors and the reflected rays of the sun.
Sissypuss, the Blog Kitty, was in the area and reported that catastrophe was narrowly averted when the non-union extras holding the mirrors got careless and reflected too much sunlight at the President. The Great Disinfectant would have caused injury, but the Keynesian Fog about the Presidential noggin was thick and rich enough (at your expense, reader) to absorb the light.
However, a round of golf was required for recovery.
The extras in question were, let us say, ‘strongly encouraged’ to join the SEIU and go find people to register for the election as penance for their ineptitude.
God Rest Mildred Fay Jefferson

It’s a shame when great Americans violate the Holy Narrative and are therefore underreported. Via The Corner comes word of the passage of Mildred Fay Jefferson, who was truly a lovely lady and whose death is a loss to the world. From a LaShawn Barber post a few years back:
Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson (in retro black and white), the first black woman to graduate from Harvard Medical School in 1951. . .and she did it under legal segregation and without skin color preferences.
