Stupidest. Democrat. EVAH!
Posted on | October 1, 2010 | 55 Comments
Rarely have I ever disagreed with Ann Coulter, but her pronouncement that Patty Murray is “the stupidest person in America” was simply wrong. Of course, the stupidest person in America is a Democrat but, contra Coulter, it’s not the buffoonish senator from Washington state.
No, even the astonishing stupidity of Patty Murray is no match for Rep. Raúl Grijalva, the Democrat who represents southern Arizona’s 7th District.
Remember in March when an Arizona rancher was murdered by illegal aliens?
Remember how that murder sparked a demand for SB 1070, the Arizona legislation that authorized police to inquire about the immigration status of criminal suspects?
Remember how polls showed overwhelming support for that common-sense law?
OK, if you remember all that, then you remember that the usual suspects of open-borders radicalism protested against SB 1070 and demanded boycotts of Arizona over the law. What you may not have noticed, or perhaps have forgotten, is that the 7th District Democrat called for an economic boycott of his own state:
Arizona’s own Democrat Rep. Raul Grijalva . . . urged civic, religious, and political groups to take their convention dollars elsewhere. “Do not do business with this state,” Grijalva told open-borders zealots bent on punishing law-abiding citizens to “send a message.”
That’s right: Grijalva wanted people to “send a message” — a job-killing economic message — to his own state. Read more

Offshore Drilling: Another Reason Jim Moran Needs To Find New Work

Via Shelly’s List, the comPost quotes my Congresstool:
Rep. James P. Moran Jr. (D-Va.), who chairs the House Appropriations Committee’s interior and environment subcommittee, said that if Democrats retain control of the House in the midterm elections, he will press for a moratorium on drilling in the mid-Atlantic and off Alaska.
“The gulf is going to go back to drilling. That’s just the nature of the gulf,” Moran said. But he added, “I think we have at least a 50-50 chance of protecting the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.”
Other than explaining the adulation from ManBearPig, this quotation does little to explain how the country can prosper with myopia in place of a vision for energy independence.
With sufficient effort, the Democrat Party will lose the House, and with supreme effort, Moran can be sent packing.

“When I want my men to remember something important, to really make it stick, I give it to them double dirty. It may not sound nice to some bunch of little old ladies at an afternoon tea party, but it helps my soldiers to remember. You can’t run an army without profanity; and it has to be eloquent profanity. An army without profanity couldn’t fight its way out of a piss-soaked paper bag. As for the types of comments I make, sometimes I just, by God, get carried away with my own eloquence.”
— Gen. George S. Patton
“[T]herapeutic morality encourages a permanent suspension of the moral sense. There is a close connection, in turn, between the erosion of moral responsibility and the waning capacity for self-help . . . between the elimination of culpability and the elimination of competence.”
– Christopher Lasch, The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations (1979)
You cannot expect credit for your successes if you do not accept responsibility for your failures. This is a point I made months ago at the Hot Air Green Room:
Good mental health is characterized by optimism and a sense of agency — that is to say, the belief that we are ultimately in control of our own lives. The sense of agency is critical to success and happiness in every area of life . . .
Self-pity and envy are closely associated emotions. If we are not to blame for our own failures, then others deserve no credit for their success. . . .
There is perhaps no more telling symptom of our culture’s decades-long descent into narcissism than the widespread tendency to envy success rather than to praise, admire and emulate it. So pervasive has this trend toward narcissism become that, while it finds its most gaudy examples in the precincts of liberalism — identity politics being nothing other than narcissism as an ideology — we see similar attitudes of entitlement and envy erupting even among conservatives who otherwise proclaim the importance of independence and personal responsibility.
Think back to early 2009, when Rush Limbaugh dared to say of President Obama’s agenda: “I hope he fails.”
That four-word statement elicited furious denunciations from some who insist that their devotion to the success of the conservative cause is equal to, or even greater than, Rush Limbaugh’s. And in weighing the competing claims involved in the dispute that erupted over those Four Famous Words, the question naturally arose: What motivated Limbaugh’s critics on the Right? Read more

AZ-7: Another Democrat in Trouble, Another Excellent GOP Challenger
Posted on | September 30, 2010 | 16 Comments
The rule of polling is, if the incumbent is under 50%, the incumbent is in trouble. By that measure, Democrat Rep. Raúl Grijalva — polling at an anemic 42% — is in serious trouble in Arizona’s 7th District:
Republican Ruth McClung is trailing Rep. Raúl Grijalva by seven points according to a poll done for her campaign and released Wednesday.
The poll, the only one released on the district so far, shows 42 percent said they support Grijalva in the Congressional race, while 35 percent support McClung. That left 23 percent of voters undecided. The District is composed of 142,283 registered Democrats, 75,437 registered Republicans, and 103,750 independent voters.
McClung’s campaign hailed the results in a news release, saying the race is “up for grabs.”
“It’s now clear that a huge percentage of the voters in CD7 are tired of Mr. Grijalva and his antics,” she said in the release, which noted he’s been re-elected with more than 60 percent of the vote in his past two election cycles.
“Voters are tired of politicians who put their own interests ahead of their constituents,” McClung said in the release. “Mr. Grijalva’s boycott of his home state, his failed economic policies and his indifference to the voters is catching up with him.”
Grijalva’s campaign did not immediately respond to the results.
A friend in Arizona who sent me that story in an e-mail says, “Ruth McClung is the real deal out of grassroots activism here in the desert. She’s an honest-to-God rocket scientist, fiscal conservative, pro SB 1070 candidate with strong Tea Party support.”
Yes, indeed, as she says in her official campaign biography, Ruth McClung is “a physicist who is currently working as a rocket scientist at a local engineering company.”
These Tea Party people, they’re all a bunch of dumb yahoos, y’see.
And, indeed, the incumbent Democrat called for a boycott of his own state because of Arizona’s new immigration-enforcement law.
Man, these Democrats are all about economic growth and jobs, jobs, jobs!
Now check out this awesome radio ad from Ruth McClung:
You know how Ace of Spades is so crazy about robot-building Sean Bielat? Yeah. Wait ’til Ace sees this one:
RUTH McCLUNG for CONGRESS
She’s a rocket scientist, and kinda cute, too
Seriously, people: This is exactly the kind of candidate we need to be supporting if we want to push back against the liberal media stereotype that Republican women are a bunch of dummies.
If you don’t give Ruth McClung $20 right now, I’m gonna tell my friend Christine O’Donnell to turn you into a newt.
