FROM OHIO: ROMNEY GAINS IN STATE POLL, NOW TIED WITH OBAMA

Posted on | October 28, 2012 | 31 Comments

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio
Just pulled into a McDonald’s here on the  way to a Romney-Ryan rally in Marion — two and a half hours away — to quickly note the latest news via the Columbus Dispatch:

Romney closes Obama’s lead to split Ohio
Boosted by a surge among male voters who think he’s the best candidate to fix the economy, Republican Mitt Romney has come back to tie President Barack Obama in battleground Ohio.
They are deadlocked at 49?percent in a new Dispatch/Ohio News Organization poll. Obama was ahead by 5 points in the same poll published on Sept. 16.
How does that tie get broken in the next nine days?
“In the final days before the election, both campaigns will focus on turning out their bases, appealing to independents and attracting the few undecided voters that remain,” said Eric Rademacher, co-director of the University of Cincinnati’s Institute for Policy Research, which conducted the poll for Ohio’s eight largest newspapers.
“Absent any more twists and turns, a remarkable presidential campaign may end with the campaign that executes the best ‘ground game,’ narrowly delivering Ohio for the next president of the United States.”
The Buckeye State, the nation’s top presidential bellwether since 1900, is always important in a presidential election. But this year might be giving Ohio voters an attention-surplus disorder, with more than 70 visits by presidential candidates or their running mates, unprecedented ad spending, and reporters from around the world fanning across the state. Last week, a New York Times statistical analysis called Ohio more important than the other 49 states combined. . . .

Read the whole thing. I’ve got to get back on the road quickly — the Marion rally starts at 6:30 — but if you needed any further omens of how this campaign is going, Andrew Sullivan has once again gone absolutely Looney Tunes, almost certainly a harbinger of Republican victory.

    Sweet!

Sounds like Sully has gotten over his hatefest of Sarah Palin’s womb, but is now fixated with Romney’s skin.

  • rustypaladin

Because Romney is really worried about his base these days…

  • Quartermaster

Sullivan is a racist moron. I’m a bit surprised Will didn’t cut him to pieces. I guess Will is getting a bit too long in the tooth.

Just a question: How close can an election be when Minnesota and Oregon are in play for the GOP? Second question: How over would this election be if Romney had not played the old, tired “must win Ohio” election map and invested that money in all these places that are in play?

Sully telling Ryan and Romney they are not good Christians.

Sully lied about being a conservative. Maybe he can come out and stop pretending to be a Christian. Sully is more the trendy new age type anyway.

Okay…just WTF is the Confederate rule? Was Sullivan insinuating that us Southrons are a bunch of racists?

  • chuck coffer

Reap the whirlwind, bitches!! We’re about to de facto outlaw the democrat party. ooooraaaaah

  • http://twitter.com/RangerSG Shawn Gillogly

Oh, I think it was more than insinuation. But then, consider the source.

  • http://boogieforward.us/ K-Bob

He’s just being a dumb furriner, and thinking that the Confederacy included a bunch of states that didn’t exist at the time. And also forgetting that the “racial” south was mostly Democrats. Still is, really.

Reminds me, ABC had a story up last night about the “re-emergence of the KKK.” Of course, the lefties in the comments claimed it was Tea Party folks.

I think this is the best they can do for an “October Surprise.”

As Nelson would say, “Ha Ha”

And go read the transcript and fact check on Sully’s claims over at NewsBusters.

Will hammered him pretty well, but the fact check is the hand being raised by the ref after the bell.

Interesting picture of Andrew Sullivan on that link. Note how he’s made himself to look like Jeff Bridges playing Obadiah Stane in Iron Man.

It it a case of “Neo Confederate Sex Panic” perhaps?

I can almost hear Nelson, too. :D

  • http://wizbangblog.com/ Adjoran

Well, that was a Nightline investigation – what else would they cover? It isn’t as if there were unanswered questions in some official scandal or anything – time to call Maurice Deese and help him promote his next fundraising email scare blast!

The difference between the number of returned ballots from Democratic counties in Ohio this year and last and the increase in GOP counties is nearly enough to match Obama’s 2008 margin of victory in the state. He’s losing everywhere and he knows it. He didn’t take any time off the campaign trail for the hurricane in September (until Romney did), but he goes back to the White House with ten days to go?

He’s a beaten man, he knows it, but he can’t accept it. Obama has never been denied anything in his entire life – despite the fact he was not qualified for any of the things he was given.

Sully is obviously suffering from some sort of mental illness. The guy spent a couple of years arguing that Bristol Palin delivered TWO babies within eight months, that Trigg is actually HER son. He’s a nut, PERIOD.

  • http://thecampofthesaints.org Bob Belvedere

Look, I despise Sully with my whole being, but, in Britain, he may well qualify as Conservative.

  • http://thecampofthesaints.org Bob Belvedere

    Good one.

  • http://thecampofthesaints.org Bob Belvedere

Methinks Stacy was onto something when he speculated several years ago that Sully was suffering from AIDS-Related Dementia.
