Suspect Charged With Trafficking Girl, 17

Recent news from Florida:

A man suspected of selling sex with an underage runaway was arrested on human trafficking charges after the girl’s rescue in May, authorities said Thursday.
State Attorney Aramis Ayala, joined by Ron Stucker, the director of the Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation, announced the arrest of Timothy Bernard White, 22, on charges including human trafficking of a child under 18.
“In this case, we were able recover and rescue a 17-year-old juvenile who was being trafficked here in Orlando,” Stucker said,
Officials say White met the girl over social media while the child was living in a group home in Tampa. Authorities say she ran away and met White at a Central Florida motel.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office became aware of the girl’s location and told agents with the MBI, a multi-jurisdictional law-enforcement agency that often deals with vice and organized crime. Authorities rescued the girl at the Orlando Metropolitan Resort, just off International Drive on May 31.
Authorities say White posted the girl’s pictures on various websites advertising sex and took the proceeds. Officials were able to identify Christopher David Jackson, 34, and Steven Ramos, 40, as two men they say responded to the postings.
“Both of them … went to the hotel and each independently had sex with this minor,” Stucker said.
Stucker said both men claimed to not know the child was underage. Under state law, alleged perpetrators do not need to know the victim’s age to be charged with human trafficking of a child.
“If you engage in prostitution, you will be prosecuted,” Ayala said. “If you are engaging in prostitution of underage children, you will be tried as a human trafficker and hopefully sentenced to the rest of your life in prison.”
Human trafficking continues to plague Central Florida. Orlando ranks third in the nation for reports of human trafficking, a positition that can be attributed to its place as a tourism hot-spot. The MBI has received more than 100 tips concerning human trafficking this year, Stucker said.
White faces charges including human trafficking, transporting for the purpose of prostitution and deriving support from the proceeds of prostitution. Jackson and Ramos face charges of human trafficking and unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Feminists have ignored this story, for some reason.

ICE Seeks Fugitive Sex Trafficker

A recent press release:

A documented associate of the brutal international gang MS-13 is at-large and wanted for his role in operating an interstate prostitution ring, which also included the trafficking of a known minor.
Ramon Raudel Campos Murillo, a native of Mexico, who sometimes also goes by Raudel or the alias “Chilango,” is charged with transporting a minor across state lines for prostitution in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Court documents relevant to the fugitive’s known co-conspirators and associates state that for approximately three years between 2009 and 2012, Campos Murillo managed the operation of an interstate prostitution ring that trafficked multiple women and a known minor across state lines to engage in commercial sex acts. Many of these women were foreign nationals, brought in from all along the eastern seaboard from New York to Virginia. Once they had arrived at the Greyhound bus station in Washington, D.C., they were transported to an apartment in Riverdale, Maryland maintained by the enterprise as a brothel. This illicit operation prostituted more than 100 different women, and operated in multiple locations to include Manassas, Woodbridge, Falls Church, Fairfax, Alexandria, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, Baltimore and Delaware. Campos Murillo’s operation typically charged clients $30.00 for 15 minutes of sexual intercourse with the trafficked women, garnering almost half a million dollars in illicit proceeds.
A minor victim was specifically exploited due to the minor’s age. The victim was advertised to clients of the prostitution ring as being under the age of 18-years-old. She was initially coerced into the prostitution ring in 2009 at the age of fifteen-years-old, and on the first day, was forced to have sexual relations with 17 customers all across the northern Virginia region to include Alexandria, Falls Church, and Tyson’s Corner.
A warrant was issued for Campos Murillo’s arrest on December 13, 2011, and he has been considered a fugitive since that time. Campos Murillo is a 40-year old male standing at five feet six inches tall and approximately 200 pounds with brown eyes and black hair, last believed to be living in either Maryland or Delaware. If you have information on Campos Murillo’s whereabouts, please contact U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Tip Line at 1-866-DHS-2ICE or www.ICE.gov/tips.

Remember that Democrats want to abolish ICE.

Murder, Lies and Feminism

1994: L.A. police pursue murder suspect O.J. Simpson.

The word “mansplaining” was inspired (although not coined) by Rebecca Solnit, whose book Men Explain Things to Me became a bestseller. In this book, Ms. Solnit writes: “So many men murder their partners and former partners that we have well over a thousand homicides of that kind a year — meaning that every three years the death toll tops 9/11’s casualties, though no one declares a war on this particular kind of terror.”

Here we have an actual fact — that the U.S. annually records “well over a thousand homicides” in which women are killed by their male partners or ex-partners — supporting a dishonest insinuation, i.e., that “this particular kind of terror” is a pervasive reality of American life, a widespread form of oppression which our sexist society ignores.

It should not be necessary to say this: Murder is a rare crime, for which our criminal justice system metes out the harshest punishments.

Furthermore, criminal violence — including murder, including rape, including every species of crime against women — is disproportionately a phenomenon of the social and economic underclass.

This is not something that feminists like Ms. Solnit wish to acknowledge, because their political allegiance to the Left requires them to believe that members of the underclass (especially those who are black and Hispanic) are victims of systemic social injustice. After the Ferguson riots of 2014, for example, every feminist began hashtagging #BlackLivesMatter as a gesture of solidarity against allegedly racist police. It is asserted by feminists that the “intersectionality” of oppression in American society is such that women and racial minorities are both victimized by systemic injustice, thus uniting them in a common cause — the struggle against “capitalist imperialist white supremacist cisheteronormative patriarchy,” in the words of Vanessa Diaz, former executive director of the University of Southern California Women’s Student Assembly.

Feminism’s devotion to an “intersectional” concept of oppression serves to obscure the messy reality of American life, which does not conform to such tidy ideological categories. Blaming all social problems on systemic causes (capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, etc.) is a way of denying individual responsibility for wrongdoing, while suggesting that every problem is political and can be solved by left-wing policies.

If feminists wish to reduce violent crime against women, how did it make sense for them to support #BlackLivesMatter, a movement that demonized police officers? How can we prevent violence, without police to enforce the law and arrest criminals? Ideology triumphs over common sense among intellectuals, and Ms. Solnit’s comments about the murder of women are typical of how feminism produces confusion.

Who is murdering whom in America? According to the FBI’s Crime in the United States report, there were 15,070 homicide victims in 2016, of whom 11,821 (78.4%) were male. In other words, for every woman murdered in America, 3.63 men were murdered. The fact that male homicide victims outnumber female victims nearly 4-to-1, however, doesn’t fit Rebecca Solnit’s belief about violence against women as a “particular kind of terror” comparable to the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Murder is a rare crime, as I say. While 15,070 homicides a year is a large number, the U.S. population is 325 million, which means that the average American has less than a 1-in-20,000 chance of being murdered in a typical year. However, murder in the United States is not randomly distributed over the general population; homicide is overwhelmingly an urban phenomenon that disproportionately affects African Americans.

Of the 15,070 U.S. homicide victims in 2016, more than half — 7,881 (52.3%) — were black. As to the perpetrators, the FBI reports: “When the race of the offender was known, 53.5 percent were Black or African American, 43.9 percent were White, and 2.6 percent were of other races.” Black people are 12.7% of the U.S. population, and are over-represented in murder statistics — both as victims and perpetrators — by a factor of more than 4-to-1. The reality of violent crime in America does not conform to the ideological beliefs of Ms. Solnit and other feminists, who insist that women, racial minorities and homosexuals are united in an “intersectional” struggle against the systemic oppression perpetrated by heterosexual white males. It isn’t white guys murdering all those black people in urban America, however, nor is there any reason to suspect that white men are disproportionately responsible for the murder of women by their partners and ex-partners; quite the opposite is more likely true.

The gun an Arizona man used to kill at least four of his six victims was a .40-caliber Glock that he was lawfully allowed to own — despite a 2009 arrest for domestic violence, a federal agent says.
Dwight Lamon Jones, 56, was not the original purchaser of the semiautomatic handgun that was found [June 4] in the suburban Phoenix hotel room where he fatally shot himself. . . .
Jones used that weapon to kill prominent forensic psychiatrist Steven Pitt, psychologist Marshall Levine, and paralegals Veleria Sharp and Laura Anderson, Mangan said.
But police have not confirmed whether the Glock was used in two other killings that have been blamed on Jones — the murders of Mary Simmons, 70, and Byron Thomas, 72, who were found fatally shot in a Fountain Hills, Arizona, home. . . .
Jones is believed to have been targeting people who played a part in his bitter divorce from his ex-wife, Connie Jones — a radiologist at a mammography center now married to a former Phoenix police detective — when he embarked on the deadly rampage [May 31].
Shortly before Connie Jones filed for divorce in 2009, Jones was charged with misdemeanor assault, threats and intimidation, and disorderly conduct. He later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
At one point, Connie Jones sought an order of protection from her husband, who acted as his own lawyer in a divorce case that was not settled until 2017.

Murder is a rare crime. It is wrong to pluck one story from the headlines and exploit it as anecdotal “evidence” for political purposes. Yet this is what feminists and their allies on the Left do routinely, seizing on statistically unusual incidents (e.g., police shooting an unarmed black man) as symbols in a “social justice” crusade. I’ve described this as the “Atrocity Narrative” method of propaganda, which the Left uses to portray America as a place where racism, sexism and homophobia are pervasive menaces. By selectively highlighting stories that fit this ideological narrative, media outlets like CNN present the public with a warped image of American society, distorted by a left-wing political agenda. The difference between those crimes that get 24/7 saturation coverage on CNN and crimes that are considered just “local news” is a matter of politics. Consider how the recent mass murder at a newspaper office in Maryland was covered by the national media.

CNN provided wall-to-wall coverage of the shootings at the Annapolis Capital, as liberals on the Internet ran wild with speculation that this attack might have been inspired by President Trump’s frequent criticisms of the “fake news” media. Overnight, however, the story changed. It turned out that the perpetrator was a man who bore a personal grudge against this particular newspaper, which had reported on his conviction for criminally harassing a woman. Not only that, but the suspect was (a) Hispanic and (b) a former federal employee. Had the gunman been a white Republican inspired by Trump’s anti-media rhetoric, the shootings in Annapolis might have dominated CNN’s coverage for weeks; as it was, however, the network dropped the story as soon as the facts about the accused perpetrator and his motive became evident.

Annapolis massacre suspect Jarrod Ramos.

Given the reasons why Jarrod Ramos had originally come to the attention of the Annapolis Capital, you might have thought feminists would find some sort of lesson in this story. The way Ramos had cyberstalked and threatened a woman is the kind of story that perfectly fits the feminist worldview, and his murderous rampage at the newspaper office suggests Ramos represented a real danger of “male violence.” Alas, because Ramos is Hispanic, and because “intersectionality” means feminists must never criticize Hispanic men, his crimes didn’t quite fit the narrative in which all evil is attributed to “privileged” white males.

Realism requires that our beliefs must conform to the facts, but feminists are ideologues who prefer unreality, persisting in their warped political beliefs no matter what the facts may be. Genuinely newsworthy stories of male violence — like Dwight Jones, who killed six people in Arizona because of his bitterness over his divorce — are just “local news,” if the suspect doesn’t fit the profile of “privileged” white male evil.

Who is murdering whom? Feminists don’t want us to start seriously researching this question, because the answers might not support the categorical identity-politics “oppression” narrative of the Left.

Violence Against Women Update

DeKalb County, Georgia:

The suspect accused of fatally stabbing a 14-year-old girl and a man Sunday morning in a Decatur apartment has been arrested, DeKalb County authorities said Monday afternoon.
Authorities say Royce Stewart stabbed Shykia Ward-Reese and an unidentified male at the Trinity Walk Apartments, then stole a silver 2014 Ford Mustang convertible, Decatur police Sgt. John Bender confirmed in a statement.
The 36-year-old was arrested in downtown Decatur, not long after dumping the car during a chase with DeKalb sheriff’s deputies, spokeswoman Cynthia Williams said.
He faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder and one count of theft by taking a motor vehicle.
The search for Stewart prompted a lockdown at nearby Bethune Middle School, a DeKalb Schools spokesman confirmed.
This isn’t the first time Stewart has been wanted on murder charges, court records show.
In 2003, DeKalb police charged Stewart with murder in connection with the death of an 18-year-old at a birthday party, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Details about the incident were not immediately available Monday, but records indicate Stewart pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in 2004 and served five years in prison.

Feminists are ignoring this crime, for some reason.

Violence Against Muslim Teen in Texas

In January, 16-year-old Maarib Al Hishmawi was reported missing in Bexar County, Texas. She was last seen leaving Taft High School in San Antonio. Was she a victim of right-wing anti-Muslim violence?

No, she was a victim of her parents:

She was located in mid-March when she was taken in by an organization that cared for her after she ran away, KSAT reported.
Authorities on Friday said Al Hishmawi’s parents — Abdulah Fahmi Al Hishmawi, 34, and Hamdiyah Saha Al Hishmawi, 33 — had allegedly beaten their daughter with a broomstick and poured hot cooking oil on her when she refused to marry a man in another city. The parents reportedly agreed to the arranged marriage in exchange for $20,000.
“This young lady, at various times over that time period was subjected to some pretty bad abuse because she didn’t want to be married to this person,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said on Friday, according to KSAT.
“Several times it was reported to us that this young lady was abused with hot cooking oil being thrown on her body. She was beat with broomsticks,” Salazar added. “At least one point, she was choked almost to the point of unconsciousness.”
The teenage girl and her five siblings, between the ages 5 and 15, were placed under Child Protective Services custody.
The parents face charges of continuous violence against a family member. They were taken into custody on Friday.
Police said the man who was arranged to be married to Al Hishmawi may also be charged in the case.

This is the kind of “violence against women” feminists will ignore.

Violence Against Women Update

Denis Cruz Lemus is an illegal alien, and also a violent criminal.

For some reason, feminists are ignoring this story:

A drunken teenager living in the U.S. illegally is accused of kicking his pregnant girlfriend in the stomach and slamming her head against a wall in an attempt to cause a miscarriage.
Denis Cruz Lemus, 19, of Aspen Hill [Maryland], is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and false imprisonment.
According to the criminal statement of charges on file in Montgomery County Circuit Court, Lemus was “drinking heavily” at a party on November 23. The level of booze in Lemus’ system triggered a verbal argument with his pregnant girlfriend, who ended up spending the night at her mother’s home.
The following morning, Lemus’ girlfriend returned to the single-family home the couple shared along Aspen Hill Road. Within minutes, a quarrel re-ignited. This time, however, Lemus allegedly hit his girlfriend, tossed her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her in the stomach. Police explain Lemus made remarks about wanting to end the three-month pregnancy during the physical encounter.
While trying to flee, Lemus allegedly grabbed hold of his girlfriend’s head and slammed it against the corner of a solid wall. That impact caused the woman to sustain a cut to her head. When officers arrived, they noted a “substantial amount of blood” on the wall, carpet, and all over the woman’s clothing and body. Lemus was nowhere to be found, but was arrested a few days later. . . .
According to the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Lemus is a native of Honduras living in the United States illegally. ICE has lodged a detainer against the 19-year-old who remains in Montgomery County custody.

Why are feminists ignoring this? “Intersectionality,” which means only crimes committed by white males count as “violence against women.”

If you’re an illegal immigrant, you could murder a woman in broad daylight and no feminist would even bother to mention it.

Violence Against Women: Video Shows Confession in MS-13 Gang Murder

Venus Romero Iraheta pleaded guilty to murdering a 15-year-old girl.

MS-13, Mara Salvatrucha, is a notoriously violent criminal gang formed in Los Angeles in the 1980s by “millions of immigrants from El Salvador [who] came to the United States after a violent civil war” in that country (which President Trump recently called a “sh–hole”).

Last week, a Maryland teenager pleaded guilty to murdering a 15-year-old girl she blamed for the death of her boyfriend:

“I grabbed her by the throat and I couldn’t help but hit her.”
That is what 18-year-old Venus Romero Iraheta said during an interrogation with police as she confessed to the brutal gang-related murder of a 15-year-old girl in Fairfax County.
Iraheta pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, abduction and criminal street gang participation in the stabbing death of Damaris Reyes Rivas on Monday.
The interrogation video was recorded on Feb. 14, a month after the murder. Officials released it Wednesday just days after Iraheta’s guilty plea. . . .
Iraheta, who was 17 years old at the time of the murder, told interrogators that she sought to avenge the death of her boyfriend, Christian Sosa Rivas, a known member of MS-13. She believed Reyes Rivas was responsible for his death and arranged to have her taken into the woods at Lake Accotink Park, where Iraheta tortured and interrogated Reyes Rivas before stabbing her to death.
In the interrogation video, Iraheta describes what she said to the victim.
Through a translator, Iraheta told police: “You’re going to remember me until the day we see each other in hell. Don’t forget my name. And I told her my full name and I told her my nickname. And I told it to her and I told her to never forget who I was. I told her someday we were going to see each other again.”
Officer: “And then what did you do?”
Iraheta in English: “I killed her.”
Officer: “How did you kill her?”
Iraheta in English: “With a knife.” . . .
Investigators say Iraheta did not act alone. Nine others were arrested in connection to Reyes Rivas’ death.
According to court documents, Reyes Rivas, who was a student at Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland, was taken from Montgomery County to Lake Accotink Park in Fairfax County [Virginia] where several MS-13 gang members were waiting. . . .
As Reyes Rivas lay dying, authorities said two others stabbed her in the neck with a sharpened stake. In all, officials said Reyes Rivas was stabbed 19 times. Authorities said the group then used a rope to drag her body to an area under the I-495 overpass and put her face down in a shallow puddle and covered her with railroad ties. . . .
According to officials, much of the brutal crime was recorded on video with the intent to send it to the MS-13 leadership in El Salvador for promotions within the ranks of the gang. Officials said the video was recovered from Apple’s Cloud and was a key part of their investigation.

Violence Against Women: Convict Kills His Mother’s Girlfriend and Her Daughter

Marlin Larice Joseph is accused of murder in Florida.

Marlin Larice Joseph, 26, has tattoos on his face. In 2013, he was charged with “lewd behavior” involving a 13-year-old girl, and was sentenced to prison. He served less than a year of that sentence, and was living with his mother, Robin Denson, in West Palm Beach, Florida:

Wearing a black baseball cap and a gray T-shirt that says “Ben Hustlin All My Life,” Robin Denson spoke to her missing son.
“Marlin, son, I love you,” Denson said, standing in front of the West Palm Beach Police Department on [Jan. 1]. “You know I love you, but please, turn yourself in. If you’re scared to do so, call me.” . . .
She said she’s had no contact with Joseph since he vanished. Denson has no idea where he is.
“We’re all he’s got,” she said as her two other children, Pop and Annie, stood next to their grieving mom for six minutes.
Denson says Marlin was a good kid. He played high school football. He read his Bible every day. “I just don’t know what went wrong,” she said.

Police say where Joseph went wrong — besides his stint in prison and his face tattoos — was murdering his mother’s lesbian girlfriend, Kaladaa Crowell, 36, and Crowell’s 11-year-old daughter, Kyra Inglett:

Upset over an 11-year-old’s “bad attitude,” Marlin Larice Joseph gunned down the girl’s mother, then chased the elementary-school student outside and killed her, recently released West Palm Beach police records show.
Joseph, 26, was arrested [Jan. 2] in Lake Worth on two first-degree murder charges about two hours after authorities caught his 27-year-old cousin using his credit card at a Lantana gas station. Javarie Williams was arrested for reportedly hiding Joseph for days and lying to authorities about his whereabouts. . . .
Joseph’s mother, who was dating the woman her son reportedly killed and considered herself a stepmother to the girl, tearfully pleaded for her son to turn himself in the day before his arrest.
Robin Denson said she was outside the West Palm Beach home [Dec. 28] when her son allegedly fired fatal shots into Kaladaa Crowell, 36, and her 11-year-old daughter, Kyra Inglett.
Police records indicate Crowell and Joseph, who also lived in the 822 Third St. home, had argued that day about the way Kyra “was not getting along with the other children who lived in the home.”
Joseph claimed the 11-year-old, a fifth-grade student at Northboro Elementary School in West Palm Beach, “had a bad attitude,” according to an arrest report.
Shortly after 7 p.m. Joseph’s brother said Joseph walked out of the bedroom they shared. Seconds later, the brother heard a gunshot and found Crowell sitting on the ground.
“Please call 911,” the mother pleaded, according to the police report.
Joseph’s brother ran out the front door and saw another brother wrestling with Joseph.
The second brother told authorities he heard gunfire, then saw Joseph run out of the home behind Kyra and shoot her. Police say the 11-year-old was shot in the head and the right forearm.
The brother grabbed Joseph, trying to keep him from running off, according to a police report.
A third brother, who also saw Joseph shoot Kyra, said Joseph ran back inside the home, fired at least two more shots, then fled in Crowell’s car.

And you thought your family was “dysfunctional”? Here you have two women living together with their five children, and none of the news stories about this case contains a single word about who were the fathers of these various children. Considering Joseph’s criminal record, I’m going to guess his father isn’t exactly a model citizen. One notices that there were at least four different surnames (Denson, Joseph, Crowell, Inglett) among the seven residents of 822 Third St. In this disorderly household, the convicted felon with face tattoos considered himself fit to pass judgment on the “bad attitude” of his mother’s girlfriend’s daughter, a fifth-grader who “was not getting along with the other children who lived in the home.” He decided to settle this domestic conflict with a pistol.

Trish Bendix, who for nearly 10 years was editor of the lesbian news site AfterEllen.com, connects this South Florida murder to an upstate New York case we previously covered here, and provocatively asks: “Why Are Black Lesbians And Their Children Being Targeted For Murder?”

The similarities in these two cases are too hard to ignore — black lesbians and their children killed by men who knew them and their families. In 2014, James Larry Cosby was convicted of murdering his daughter, Britney Cosby, and her girlfriend, Crystal Jackson, in Houston. During his trial, friends and family testified that Cosby was vocal about his problem with their relationship and his daughter’s homosexuality, though he never went on record to state his motive.
“These are the things we know. He had resentment. They had a better life. They were being treated differently at [Jackson’s family’s] house,” Capt. Barry Cook, an investigator with the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office said. “He didn’t agree with their lifestyle, but neither did the Jacksons. Were they killed for being gay? Who knows? He’s the only one who knows and he’s not talking.”
While certainly not explicitly specific to black families, familial homophobia is often ignored when it comes to law enforcement declaring something a hate crime. It seems, for some reason, that an anti-lesbian motive isn’t one worth bringing up by anyone other than the prosecution or people that knew the victims well, at least in Cosby’s case. But with what seems like a tragic trend of black lesbians and their children being murdered in their own homes, it’s past time to acknowledge that their being targeted was very specific.

Except correlation is not causation, Ms. Bendix. What you are doing here is what I’ve called the Atrocity Narrative method of propaganda. In a nation of 320 million people, it’s possible to collect a handful of examples of almost any unusual phenomenon (e.g., people having sex with dogs) and portray this as a social “trend.” This was how, for example, the Black Lives Matter movement ginned up a firestorm of anti-police anger, claiming a pattern of racist brutality by white cops, even though as a matter of statistical fact, a police officer is more likely to be killed by a black suspect than vice-versa. Selective media attention to relatively rare incidents — cops shooting unarmed suspects, or lesbians being murdered — can create distorted public perceptions. Yet such distortions are often deliberately created by activists and journalists seeking to promote “social justice” narratives about racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Are black lesbians being “targeted” because of their sexuality? Perhaps, but what do we know about the sexuality of the 624 people shot to death last year in Chicago, of whom 78% (502 victims) were black? So far as I know, no one has ever analyzed Chicago’s crime epidemic in terms of its impact on the LGBT community, but what we do know is that 91% of the victims are males, and most of the perpetrators were also male. Chicago is a microcosm of violent crime in the United States, which is disproportionately committed by black males, who are about 6% of the U.S. population, but commit nearly half the country’s violent crimes.

For more than half a century, dating back to “The Moynihan Report” of 1965, social critics have tried to call attention to the correlation between family breakdown in the black community and the problem of poverty and violence. Unfortunately, these concerns have been shouted down with accusations of racism by liberals who insist that, somehow, the prejudices of white people must be to blame for every problem that affects black people. This scapegoating explanation is used by liberals to excuse and justify irresponsible behavior by black people, who are portrayed as helpless “victims of society,” without moral agency over their own individual lives. This belief begets the Officer Krupke syndrome: “I’m depraved on account I’m deprived.”

To explain the murders of Kaladaa Crowell and Kyra Inglett as a consequence of “familial homophobia,” as Ms. Bendix does, you must ignore a whole lot of contrary evidence. You must ignore, for example, the question of why Marlin Joseph, a sex offender with tattoos on his face, was living in the same household with an 11-year-old girl and, also, why this convicted criminal had possession of a pistol. Just ask a few questions: What percentage of the population of West Palm Beach is on probation or parole? What’s the violent crime rate there? How many sex offenders live in the community? Wouldn’t such facts be more relevant than speculation about the influence of “familial homophobia”?

Here’s a fact: Hillary Clinton got 57% of the vote in Palm Beach County. Is there any reason to suspect Marlin Joseph voted for Trump? Of course not, but Trish Bendix is a liberal and liberals don’t care about facts:

In 2017, more LGBTQ people were killed in hate-violence-related homicides than previous years. . . . Of the total number of LGBTQ homicides in 2017, 75% of the victims were people of color; 20 (56%) of the victims were Black. . . .
Researchers posited that Trump’s election and anti-LGBTQ rhetoric coming from his administration, as well as other far right conservatives in states like North Carolina and Texas, had made it somehow more acceptable for some to act on their hatred or dislike for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, trans men or women, and other members of the queer community.
But should those who are motivated by hate crimes are not charged for them, and if the identities and relationships of the victims are ignored as they can often be not just by law enforcement but by the press as well, it will be harder for the community to qualify an epidemic that could threaten to keep growing during a time of civil unrest inspired by those currently in power.
In Trump’s America, black lesbians and their children are being murdered; trans women are being murdered; hate crimes are rampant and can’t and shouldn’t be ignored, especially if this kind of hate is coming from inside our own homes.

So, a convicted sex offender with tattoos on his face kills two people in his mother’s home in the Democrat stronghold of West Palm Beach and, according to Trish Bendix, this is evidence of an “epidemic” of hate crimes caused by “anti-LGBTQ rhetoric” from Trump administration and “far right conservatives.” Meanwhile, in upstate New York, the apparent motive for the December murder of two lesbians and two children was — wait for it — stealing a flat-screen TV. Blame Trump!
