Liberals Spinning S&P Credit Downgrade: BLAME IT ON THE REPUBLICANS!

Nothing is more amazing than the ability of liberals — both politicians and “journalists” — to synchronize their lies. In the wake of Standard & Poors downgrading of the U.S. credit rating Friday, the Democrat-Media Complex has now forged a consensus that this had nothing to do with massive two-year binge of deficit spending embarked on by President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. No, it’s because Republicans and their Tea Party supporters are against tax increases:

Hartmann’s column, especially, illustrates how these left-wing agitprop campaigns work: The “Mainstream Media” ignore a million and one things that conservatives wish they’d pay attention to, but when liberals accuse reporters of ignoring something, the reporters — who are, of course, nearly all liberal — will jump to correct the perceived omission and will, in fact, often harp on this “unreported” angle to the exclusion of everything else.

Let us stipulate that (a) U.S. fiscal health wasn’t exactly robust when Obama became president, and (b) in a time of fiscal crisis, a steadfast opposition to tax increases doesn’t soothe the worries of the bond market, yet still the fact remains that the immediate cause of the current crisis was the incredible two-year Obama/Pelosi/Reid deficit spending binge. And Obama’s response to the debt-ceiling impasse — tax the rich! millionaires and billionaires! corporate jets! Republicans are coming to steal Granny’s Social Security check! — was immature, selfish and harmful.

Democrats don’t want to fix the problem, they want to score political points against Republicans. And they expect their liberal friends in the media to help them do it — a perfectly realistic expectation, given the fact that Barack Obama could only have become president with the willing assistance of his liberal friends in the media, who more or less anoninted him as the Democratic nominee the day he beat Hillary in the Iowa caucuses.

I’d imagine even some liberal reporters are now experiencing buyer’s remorse and — despite their profound instinctive loathing of Republicans — are sick and tired of watching Obama scapegoat others for his own incompetence.

Liberals hate Republicans and most reporters don’t know jack shit about economics, but they know failure when they see it, and Obama has proven to be an outright failure as president. One of these days, and the day might come very soon, reporters will start ignoring the White House spin machine and start reporting the truth. And then liberals will bitch, bitch, bitch about the “right-wing bias” of the media.

“CainCast,” a weekly Internet radio show offering an inside look at Herman Cain’s presidential campaign, will premiere at 7:30 p.m. EDT on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
“CainCast” will be hosted by Friends of Herman Cain Communications Director Ellen Carmichael and Director of New Media Michael Johnson. The hosts will be joined by special guests, and the program will run for 30 minutes. Listeners can submit questions through the “chat-room” function.
“Our aim is to be an extension of Mr. Cain using a dynamic platform that engages supporters and press,” Johnson said. “This is yet another fun and innovative approach to utilizing new media in our campaign.”

Liberal Head-Explosion Warning VIDEO: Michele Bachmann Testifies for Jesus

SIOUX CITY, Iowa
Friday at the rain-soaked Midwest Spirit Christian Music Festival in West Des Moines, I recorded this eight-minute video, but didn’t upload it immediately because the WiFi connection was so crappy at my hotel in Des Moines. But now I’m on a good WiFi link and it’s Sunday, so it seems appropriate to post this video that is guaranteed to make liberals run screaming from the room:

People who weren’t raised in the evangelical culture are necessarily unfamiliar with the phenomenon of testimony, wherein the speaker recounts how it was that he or she came to faith in Jesus Christ, a narrative usually accompanied by declarations of what awesome — indeed, miraculous — signs and wonders have attested the power and love of the Savior.

What’s strange is that liberals find this type of narrative perfectly acceptable when what is being testified to is some appropriately secular conversion: “Why I became a lesbian feminist” or “When I learned the undenjiable scientific truth of global warming” or “How I discovered that my Republican parents are closet Nazis.” It is only the conversion narrative of Bible-believing Christians that liberals find obnoxiously repellant. And the idea that a Bible-believing Christian might think themselves called to high public office . . .

Well, liberals just can’t handle that — at least when the self-identified Christian is a pro-life conservative Republican. It was OK for John F. Kennedy to be Catholic, it was OK for Jimmy Carter to be a Baptist, and it was OK for Barack Obama to be whatever it is you want to call devotees of what Rev. Jeremiah Wright preaches. But let a conservative Republican speak in public about his or her Christian faith, and liberals immediately start screaming about “theocracy.”

It’s like Ann Coulter says in Godless: Liberalism is a religion and abortion is its sacrament. Any Republican testifying to the gospel truth of Jesus Christ obviously isn’t a member of the Church of Liberalism, and so Michele Bachmann’s unapologetic expression of her faith is anathema to the liberal brain.

Of course, as Coulter elsewhere observed: If Democrats Had Any Brains, They’d Be Republicans

‘The Lunatic Derby’

SIOUX CITY, Iowa
“Bikers Welcome,” says the marquee in front of the Ramada Inn where I’m staying here. Certainly it would be interesting to have three or four dozen Hell’s Angels come roaring into town, terrorizing the locals, but I didn’t see any Harleys in the parking lot, so we’ll probably be spared that entertainment despite the gesture of hospitality from Ramada Inn management.

There’s a Walgreen’s pharmacy and a Perkins restaurant within walking distance of the motel, so I went to grab a newspaper and breakfast this morning. (A Sunday copy of the Sioux City Journal was $2 and breakfast was $13.02, so hit the tip jar.) Breakfast was two eggs over medium, corned beef hash, wheat toast, large orange juice and coffee.

The Sioux City Journal was kind of a disappointment: No news at all of the GOP primary campaign. Why? Perhaps this reflects the attitude expressed by a guy I talked to while waiting in line at Walgreen’s. When he learned I was a reporter in town to cover the campaign, he said: “The Ames straw poll? I call it, The Lunatic Derby.” Then he made some snotty remark about Michele Bachmann believing in UFOs.

A liberal, obviously. His disdain of the Ames Straw Poll is evidently shared by the local newspaper’s editors, whose lead editorial today begins:

In just six days, the political world – including some 700 members of the media — will descend on Ames, Iowa, for the officially insignificant but terribly critical Iowa Straw Poll. Someone will win, someone will lose, but they won’t necessarily be the actual winner or loser.

Sneering at the GOP campaign in an editorial is probably much easier than, y’know, assigning some reporters to cover it.

But what do I know about running a newspaper? Or politics, for that matter.

Anyway, the whole point of the Sioux City Journal‘s Sunday editorial is — I’m not making this up — John Thune for president.

The Santorum Family’s Iowa ‘Vacation’

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum brought his entire family — his wife, Karen, and seven kids ages 3 to 20 — to Iowa for his three-week tour leading up to the Aug. 13 Ames Straw Poll. After yesterday’s “barn party” in Roland, I caught Santorum for a minute just before he left, running late for his next event:

God Grant Joe Nocera A Moment Of Lucidity

Then came the financial crisis. I like to joke that there’s nothing like a good financial crisis to turn you into a liberal. But it’s not really a joke. The more I learned the back story that led to the crisis, the more horrified I became. The lack of regulation and oversight of Wall Street and the big subprime companies like Countrywide, driven by the ideology of deregulation, was thoughtless and irresponsible. The refusal of bank regulators to stop subprime abuses bordered on the criminally negligent. The unwillingness of the Obama Justice Department, even now, to hold anyone to account for their role in the crisis has been disheartening.

Lack of regulation? Isn’t over-regulation the reason that capital is fleeing to England? Or is the anti-business tax climate of the U.S. just another form of patriotism?

Lord, grant this man some grasp of Economics.

“refusal of bank regulators to stop subprime abuses” is gorgeous. The Community Reinvestment Act is a standing 10th Amendment violation, and has been further used as graft machine. Fannie and Freddie created the moral hazard that drove the financial crisis.

Lord, grant this man some grasp of human nature and limited government.

“The unwillingness of the Obama Justice Department, even now, to hold anyone to account. . .” The Obama Department of Justice is a standing oxymoron. If Holder and his clown car load had any notion of Justice, they’d resign en masse.

Lord, grant the suffering people justice with a side of mercy.

You can read the whole thing, and judge whether a slightly liturgical response was better than the napalm shower that initially came to mind.
