July 2011: Best. Month. EVAH!

Many people deserve credit for pushing TheOtherMcCain.com to an all-time traffic high in July. We’ll finish the month with something like 340,000 visits and 450,000 page-views. And this was the month when we cleared the 7-million mark.

So thanks to faithful sidekick Smitty — and also Smitty’s wife, who brought forth baby Niklas this month, providing a 9-pound surge of traffic as well as an excuse for Admiral Smith to take an R&R break from his otherwise relentless war against the Taliban Navy.

Wombat’s “Live at Five” headline roundups continue offering readers a daily Monday-Friday wake-up call, while relieving me of worries that I’ve overlooked any of the hottest breaking stories.

We are indebted to the many blogs that continue to link us regularly. According to e-Referrer.com, our Top Ten sources of traffic include Conservatives4Palin, Legal Insurrection, Memeorandum, Ace of Spades HQ, Hot Air and Instapundit. According to Wombat’s FMJRA, the bloggers who have linked us most in recent weeks include Don Surber, The Lonely Conservative, The Camp Of The Saints, Da Tech Guy, Zilla Of The Resistance, the Conservatory, Rhetorican, Troglopundit, Maggie’s Notebook, Republican Redefined, and That Mr. G Guy.

News: Herman Cain Beats Rick Perry and I Just Bought My Ticket to Des Moines

The media don’t much like him, but whenever he gets a chance to meet people one-on-one, he wins:

Presidential candidate Herman Cain won the straw poll at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver this weekend with 48 percent of the votes, followed by Texas Governor Rick Perry.
“How about spectacular,” Cain said to ABC News when asked how he felt about winning. . . .
Cain gave a rousing speech at the summit Sunday morning, energizing the crowd with his message about American independent energy, immigration, and fighting the establishment. . . .
On Saturday, Cain placed second in the Smart Girls Conference straw poll, losing to Rep. Michele Bachmann by only 4 votes.

And there’s news from Iowa, where Pottawattamie County GOP chairman Jeff Jorgensen tells the Des Moines Register:

“As I study the current field of Republican presidential candidates, there is only one candidate who is not a politician and is not encumbered with political concerns,” Jorgensen said in an e-mail. “This candidate has offered true capitalist, free market, common sense solutions to our problems, not political solutions. His name is Herman Cain.”

Meanwhile, my own Iowa plans are moving forward: I just spent $340 for a one-way ticket to Des Moines, leaving Wednesday.

Herman Cain’s “Common Sense Solutions” bus tour of Iowa starts Thursday, and I’m planning to be there: Ten days on the campaign trail in Iowa, all the way up to the Ames Straw Poll on Aug. 13.

The negotiations continue in Washington. It’s OK with Harry Reid and one liberal sees it as an “unprecedented political victory” for the GOP.

Ri-iiiiiight.

That Mr. G Guy offers a suggestion for how conservatives can make their end of the bargain slightly less painful. However, he misses a lucrative opportunity to monetize this occasion.

Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg titles his New York Times thumbsucker “Why Voters Tune Out Democrats,” and writes:

Oddly, many voters prefer the policies of Democrats to the policies of Republicans. They just don’t trust the Democrats to carry out those promises.

You can read the whole thing, which I must caution you is written by a Democrat and — like a majority of Americans — I don’t trust Democrats.
