TMZ reports:

Khloe Kardashian appeared on “Fox & Friends” for just over 6 minutes this morning … with her right nipple in FULL VIEW the entire time!!! . . .
Nobody on the set seemed to notice — but tons of viewers did … and they bombarded Khloe’s Twitter account with messages about the nip slip.
After the interview — Khloe tweeted back … saying, “I had a nip slip and I loved it!” She added, “Thank God! I f**king love nipples!!!!”

OK, I know you’re saying to yourself: “What is this silly story doing on a right-wing political blog?”

Guess who quoted Herman Cain on Twitter in March? Sort of a second-hand Republican sex scandal.

Cain could not be reached for comment on Khloe’s nipple.

Whenever Ms. Marcotte delivers herself of a sanctimonious sermon like today’s 1,095-word opus, it induces a terrible strain to resist the temptation of responding with language that would make Rahm Emanuel blush. Alternately, one might respond with a mere jest:

Of course, no Democratic sex scandal is complete until Amanda Marcotte embarrasses herself.

Life is a big joke and Ms. Marcotte is the punchline, so that all we need do is to say, “Hey, go read what this idiot wrote,” and everyone will see for themselves why she is so transparently absurd.

Yet Amanda Marcotte is taken seriously by influential people, who pay her to preach to the rest of us, and it would be wrong to dismiss her without at least attempting a serious analysis of her errors. Read more

On the sidebar at Ace of Spades HQ for the past several days, there had been a note about severe health problems afflicting frequent commenter “Patty Ann.”

About 3 a.m. today she died.

Rocketman at Piece of Work in Progress remembers her as “always witty, cheerful, and kind.”

Such intimations of mortality remind us that we, too, shall one day be no more than the memories we leave behind.

R.I.P., Patty Ann.

Beware of ‘Feminist’ Men

The Triumph of Civic Virtue is a 1922 neoclassical statue by Frederick MacMonnies which, since 1941, has been displayed in front of Borough Hall in Queens, N.Y. The allegorical figure shows a male warrior, symbolizing civic virtue, having conquered two prone female figures symbolizing the twin sirens of vice and corruption. Feminists have objected to this symbolism and Don Surber reminds us that the humorless scolds found a willing ally in their local congressman:

The “Triumph of Civic Virtue,” the nearly 100-year old statue, is a public statue in Queens that depicts a nude man standing over two prone women. Rep. Anthony Weiner wants it taken down and to sell it on Craigslist.
Weiner believes the statue to be sexist:
“I believe in art, I believe in public art…But that doesn‘t mean that we don’t have a right to say, forcefully, some art is simply offensive to us and we think it should go.”

I’ve been able to find video of the February press conference where Weiner denounced the statue:

“By depicting women in that role, by depicting women under a muscular man, was a common artistic form of its time, which is out of step with our cultural expression of the moment.”

Indeed. And “our cultural expression of the moment” evidently involves married 46-year-old congressmen sending photos of their crotches to college girls.

Military Pay Overhaul

Angley at Big Peace links an Air Force times article about overhauling military pay.

This writer is both a fiscal conservative and a military retiree, so I am torn over the issue, but this article is not about advocating for anything. Instead, I will make a prediction. Military members will accept whatever retirement overhaul the DoD and Congress make, and they will do it without grumbling. The United States military member is the ultimate public-sector employee, but unlike public-sector unionized employees who recently have faced pay and benefit cuts, military members will not stage mass protests, legislative sit-ins, and self-indulgent pity parties. 

I got into a lengthy discussion with an Air Force Major of about a dozen years active duty the other evening. While holding the corresponding Navy rank, I’ve spent half my twenty years in the Reserve. He was adamant that he get the full pension when he retires. “They can’t take that away,” he said.
Fine, I countered, but here we are, sitting in Afghanistan, willing to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary. Why is the wallet so dear? I allowed that, if losing my Reserve retirement (which I explicitly do not include in retirement planning) was necessary to preserve the long-term economic health of the country, then the Reserve retirement is not too important. Whatever I do receive will essentially be a discount on my income taxes, anyway.
Now, that is a subjective assessment. In no way am I speaking for anyone be little ol’ me. Veterans who are wounded, or survivors of those who paid ultimately, will be completely protected, I hope.
Nevertheless, my purpose in sacrificing some amount of liberty, especially in the form of time, is to defend and expand liberty. I hope the people of Afghanistan experience some net increase in liberty as a result of the efforts here. And I hope that I will enjoy increased economic liberty at home. It makes no sense for any retirement system, military or otherwise, to crash the U.S. economy. Those of us who can should consider cheerfully stepping up and make the necessary sacrifices. Won’t be my first short haircut, if it comes to that.
Hopefully that godforsaken Social Security system will get whacked, too, anti-liberty beast that it is.

There’s a story behind that 1952 country classic. Earlier that year, Hank Thompson had released his No. 1 hit, “The Wild Side of Life,” the chorus of which begins, “I never knew God made honky tonk angels.” In reply, and using the same melody, J.D. Miller wrote “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels,” which was recorded by the immortal Kitty Wells and also became a No. 1 hit:

As I sit here tonight the jukebox playin’
The tune about the wild side of life.
As I listen to the words you are sayin’
It brings memories when I was a trusting wife.

It wasn’t God who made honky tonk angels,

Breitbart’s Vindication

Let’s be clear about one thing: Andrew Breitbart was right, right, right and his critics were wrong, wrong, wrong.

As BigGovernment.com explains, “Andrew Breitbart was in New York for previously scheduled meetings,” and went to Anthony Weiner’s press conference as an observer. So how did he end up on stage? I touch on that in my American Spectator column today:

It started with a Tweet that was reported on a blog and, by the time it led to a Monday press conference in Manhattan, the story known as “WeinerGate” was the first full-blown cybersex scandal of the New Media era. And it was perhaps altogether fitting that disgraced Rep. Anthony Weiner had to wait to make his guilty admission while Andrew Breitbart gave an impromptu lecture to the reporters assembled in a ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel.
“Everything we’ve reported about this story has been true,” said Breitbart, whose BigGovernment.com was first to tell how, late on the night of May 27, the Democratic congressman from New York’s 9th District had used Twitter to send a 21-year-old college coed a message that included a photo of Weiner’s underwear-clad crotch in a condition of obvious arousal. After ten days of denials from Weiner, ABC News was prepared to air new revelations and the congressman was at last ready to confess. Breitbart showed up at the Sheraton and was asked by reporters to speak, ascending the podium to declare: “Quite frankly, I’d like an apology from [Weiner] for being complicit in a blame-the-messenger strategy.” . . .
