Herman Cain: ‘We Have People on the Ground’ in Early Primary States

Posted on | December 27, 2010 | 25 Comments

My profile feature on Herman Cain is now up at The American Spectator, and the big takeaway is, he’s for real:

Getting from “dark horse” to serious contender is a task Cain has assigned to a campaign team headed by two Republican operatives from Wisconsin, Mark Block and Scott Toomey. . . .
In New Hampshire, John DiStaso of the Manchester Union Leader recently reported that “veteran GOP operative and former congressional staffer David Tille has become active” for Cain, whom he met during one of the candidate’s recent visits there. The Politico‘s Smith took notice of Iowa GOP operative Tim Albrecht’s prediction that Cain “is going to have some serious legs” in that state. Cain’s supporters have already begun organizing in early primary states. “We have people on the ground in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina and will soon have people on the ground in Nevada,” Cain told The American Spectator in an interview last week. “We are going to run a bottoms-up, outside-the-box campaign.… My strength at this point is the grassroots support that I have across this country.” . . .

Please read the whole thing. This morning I got an e-mail from Maurice Atkinson of DraftCain.org, who writes:

For months we’ve been developing a network of supporters and volunteers in the various states.  Currently we have over 2,000 who have solicited to be volunteers and 300 as organizers.  These are some sharp individuals from various walks of life (executives to retirees!).  We’ve focused on utilizing the various social networking tools, primarily Facebook.  We are currently developing leaders from within the pool of supporters.  Our focus is to develop relationships within the College/Young Republican circles so that Herman will have a solid support base at the various local and state conventions.

There’s also Citizens4Cain and, of course, Herman Cain’s Web site is here. You can contribute to his PAC. You can follow him on Twitter.

UPDATE: Herman’s Red State column today:

Don’t forget what President Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress did in 2010 – and tell everybody who will listen! And if they do not get outraged, then they are sleeping under a rock and they can’t get out.

Read the whole thing.

Worst. Congress. EVAH! Also Turns Out to Have Been Breathtakingly Unethical

Posted on | December 26, 2010 | 3 Comments

Remember when Democrats promised to clean up the “culture of corruption” in Washington?

Numerous times this year, members of Congress have held fundraisers and collected big checks while they are taking critical steps to write new laws, despite warnings that such actions could create ethics problems. The campaign donations often came from contributors with major stakes riding on the lawmakers’ actions.
For three weeks in June, for instance, the members of a joint House and Senate committee worked to draft final rules for regulating the financial industry in the wake of its 2008 meltdown. During that time, the 35 members of the drafting committee collected $440,000 in donations from that same industry, which was then lobbying heavily for looser rules.
Earlier this month, the chairman of the Senate committee overseeing tax policy, Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), gave himself a birthday-party fundraiser – on the same day that the chamber took its first vote on an $858 billion tax package that would provide breaks to wealthy citizens and business interests. . . .
Senators collected $469,000 from the financial industry the day before, the day of and the day after that key Sept. 16 vote, a Post review of donations shows. The biggest recipient was Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.), who shepherded the legislation and faced a tight reelection race. . . .

Read the whole thing. And let this be a lesson to America: Whatever the problem is, “vote Democrat” is not the solution.

More Assange-Related Feminist Meltdown

What Line Did Sady Doyle Cross?

Posted on | December 26, 2010 | 6 Comments

Today I got a Tweet from the feminist who started the #MooreandMe campaign against Michael Moore. You will recall that Moore went on Keith Olbermann’s show and dismissed as “hooey” the rape accusations against WikiLeaks mogul Julian Assange. And when Sady Doyle started her Twitter campaign against Moore, my headline was, “Merry Christmas, America: Feminists Attack Michael Moore as ‘Rape Apologist’ Over Swedish Case Against Julian Assange.”

Certainly it was encouraging that Doyle (and other feminists, including Melissa McEwan) suddenly recognized what conservatives have known for years: Michael Moore is an obxnoxious hypocrite, the Hindenburg of liberalism, inflated with the gas of his own self-righteousness. And if this was to be his implosion at Lakehurst, well . . . “Oh, the humanity!”

But then Doyle went after Moe Tkacik, a writer for the Washington City Paper who had ridiculed the accusations against Assange. This was a different thing altogether, and I treated it differently. So then Doyle sent me this Tweet:

OK, boys and girls, why is trying to get Moe Tkacik fired a different thing than a public shame campaign against Michael Moore?

  • Michael Moore is a wealthy award-winning filmmaker.
  • Moe Tkacik is a young writer for a weekly tabloid paper.
  • Ergo, even if Moore and Tkacik had committed the same ideological “sin,” Moore was merely being embarrassed, whereas the attempted destruction of Tkacik’s career was an act of sadistic cruelty.

Also, Moe Tkacik is a girl. And picking on girls is mean.

While I might sometimes be guilty of picking on girls — because nobody gets a free pass in the blogosphere — you’ll notice that I generally couch such criticism in gentle good-humored sarcasm.

Sady Doyle should stop picking on girls.

Now run along, sweetheart, and fetch me a cup of coffee.

Meanwhile, Donald Douglas has the latest developments in the Assange/feminist meltdown.

UPDATE: Julian Assange signs $1.3 million book deal.

Hated by Haters

“Like the professoriate, publishers have become especially cautious, some might say cowardly or sadly, realistic. They do not want an Islamist bomb thrown through their windows, they do not want to absorb the cost of security for an author against whom a fatwa has been issued, nor do they want to pay to defend themselves against a battery of Islamist and leftist lawyers charging them with ‘racism’ and ‘Islamophobia.’
“The lawsuits and the fatwas are real. They have exerted a profound and chilling effect on Free Speech in the West. Salman Rushdie, Geert Wilders, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Magdi Allam, Elizabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, all come instantly to mind. All have required round-the-clock protection or have been sued for ‘racist’ or ‘hate’ speech by those who themselves specialize in telling Big Lies about America, Jews, and Israel. Theo Von Gogh was murdered, butchered, by a Moroccan-Dutch Islamist for daring to co-produce a film titled ‘Submission’ about the normalization of barbaric violence towards Muslim women in Islam’s name.”

BREAKING: Arizona Republican Lawmaker Hospitalized After Attack

Posted on | December 26, 2010 | 2 Comments

Evidently he surprised a burglar:

Police in Casa Grande say an Arizona legislator was sent to the hospital after being beaten and knocked unconscious.
Mike Keck of the Casa Grande Police Department says Rep. Frank Pratt was found by his wife about 8 p.m. Saturday at his business, Pratt Pools in Casa Grande.
Keck says Pratt had gone to the business earlier in the day to check on it and was confronted by someone who was already inside.
Pratt was beaten and knocked unconscious, and left bound inside the building.
Keck says Pratt’s sport utility vehicle was stolen

If any Arizona readers have updates or if anyone else finds news online about this case, please put it in the comments.

UPDATE: The Arizona Republic says the stolen veicle is a gold 2007 GMC Yukon with Arizona plate 815-KYJ, and adds: “Police did not comment on whether the attack was random, or whether other items were stolen from the shop.”

‘Unexpectedly’! Global Warming Continues to Bury East Coast in Blizzard

Posted on | December 26, 2010 | 15 Comments

“Atlanta and the Southeast were hit with a rare Christmas snowstorm Saturday.” In fact, it was my hometown’s first Christmas snowstorm since 1882 and The Blog Prof provides this video report:

Speaking of professors who blog: Professor Glenn Reynolds has photos of cute dogs and horses in the snow, because chicks dig that stuff.

William Teach is sure that global warming causes snow because the New York Times told him so!

UPDATE: Forgot to link Judah Cohen’s explanation of why global warming causes . . . everything!

Cohen works for “an atmospheric and environmental research firm,” and what do you want to bet his employer has a financial interest in the “climate change” hysteria?

Global warming is a hoax, a dishonest racket. a crooked scam whose chief purpose is to provide taxpayer-funded employment for “environmental science” majors. In a truly just society, the perpetrators of this hoax would be treated like Bernie Madoff.

UPDATE II: Holiday Travel in Disarray as Blizzard Heads Up East Coast — blame global warming!
