‘A Road Man for the Lords of Karma’

DeWITT, N.Y. — I’m blogging tonight from the home of The Lonely Conservative and her lucky husband, Dave. We just left a meet-and-greet with Ann Marie Buerkle in the village of Clyde.

While I had planned to be on the road to Pennsylvania already, but Buerkle’s having a Monday morning press conference near Syracuse, and I figured I needed to stay for that. I’ve got a deadline tonight for The American Spectator and there was no time to check into a hotel, so Mr. and Mrs. Lonely Conservative declared that Pete Da Tech Guy and I should enjoy their hospitality.

There are three key congressional races in this part of New York, and all of these candidates need your help:

I’ve got photos and video and notes and stuff, but deadline is looming, so I’ll try to update after midnight. The title quote is courtesy of Bob Belvedere at the Camp of the Saints.

Karma’s gonna come down heavy here Nov. 2. Do all you can.

UPDATE: Professor William Jacobson wonders how long the MSM will ignore Rep. Maurice Hinchey’s assault on a reporter. Speaking of assaults . . .

The shape of the 22nd District is an assault on common sense. Matt Hudson, campaign manager for Hinchey’s Republican opponent George Phillips, with the map of the 22nd District, which stretches nearly 200 miles, from Ithaca on the west to Poughkeepsie on the east. Hudson is pointing to Broome County, which is Phillips’s stronghold of support.

The sign in front of Phillips HQ in Endicott. The slogan — “Had Enough?” — pretty much sums up the attitude of 22nd District residents fed up with 18-year incumbent Hinchey.

To ‘Brianna’, with the yahoo email address formed by drumming two fingers of the right hand on the keyboard: it’s too late for the ‘concern troll’ nonsense. Like them or not, the candidates are the candidates. Yes, Arizona, John McCain merits support for the election, in addition to whatever constructive criticism you care to offer regarding policies the gentleman supports.
The notion that candidate X ‘hurts the Republican brand and image’ will be worthy of bringing up after the election.
But, until then, such remarks will be afforded the consideration proffered to the bug whose last thought was a sphincter Progressively crushing the back of its head, while its multi-faceted eyes do the Vulcan windshield meld, IYKWIMAITYD.
So, unlike the aforementioned suicide bug, hold the concern trolling and nuance fretting until you don’t appear a Lefty distractor.

An Email To My Congresstool, Jim Moran

Less the HTML, he’ll have this in his inbox for tomorrow. Are you supporting a financially disadvantaged race? Feel free to adapt this idea:

Dear Congressman Moran,
It’s a matter of public record that you’re a spread the wealth kind of guy:

It’s also a matter of FEC record that you’re in great shape in terms of funding, with $417,500 from your PAC, for example. It just occurred to me, as a purely private blogger, just scratching out a post here in the basement, that you’ve got a real opportunity on your hands to put your actions where your principles are and support the Patrick Murray campaign. What would really highlight your re-distributionist principles in action would be a twofer:

  • A right jolly blowout of a GOTV party around Halloween, and
  • Bringing in Ladd Ehlinger for a Murray campaign clip, while we still have time to get it some airtime.

Such a generous undertaking would highlight your philanthropic chops and commitment to remaining unencumbered with all that bad, bad capitol. $50k is not too small an amount to consider for this important undertaking.
Hoping to see you unemployed in January,
C. Smith

Update: Another fine blogger in the ‘hood. Greetings, Cosmopolitan Conservative. Have you met just a conservative girl, one wonders?

Da Tech Guy Gets the Nudie-lanche

It’s kind of like the Instalanche, except Dan Collins of Piece of Work in Progress includes a photo of a naked woman named Kara DioGuardi.

I’d never heard of Kara DioGuardi before but . . . well, she’s apparently famous for being naked.

NY-25 Prediction: Ann Marie Buerkle Will Score Landslide Victory Over Dan Maffei

Posted on | October 17, 2010 | 8 Comments

HANCOCK, N.Y. — Pete Da Tech Guy and I were driving up Highway 17 toward Binghamton when we got the call from the Lonely Conservative, informing us that Ann Marie Buerkle’s victory is now a near-certainty. However, that’s not the headline in the Syracuse Post Standard:

Dan Maffei leads Anne Marie Buerkle
by 12 points in new poll

Why is this poll such a certain indicator of a Buerkle victory Nov. 2? Because the poll was conducted by Sienna College.

On Sept. 23 — the day before the New York primary — a Sienna poll showed Rick Lazio was leading Carl Paladino by a 57%-24% margin. The very next day, Paladino stomped Lazio 62%-38%. (SEE CORRECTION BELOW)

So the Sienna poll had a margin of error of . . . oh, somewhere in the neighborhood of umpteen gazillion. You could better predict an election by drawing numbers out of a hat.

Less than two weeks ago, a GOP-commissioned poll showed a dead heat in the 25th District, and if Sienna says Maffei’s leading, that can only mean Maffei’s going to be squished flat on Election Day.

Go give Buerkle $20. Pete and I just ate at McDonald’s and now we’re ready to get back on the road again.

UPDATE: The Lonely Conservative notes some suspicious anomalies in the Sienna poll. We have no demographic breakdown of the sample, and the same poll shows Mario Cuomo leading Paladino by 34 points in this district, which was represented by Republicans until 2008.

UPDATE II: Just realized I completely misread the Sienna poll of Sept. 23. But the point about Sienna’s inaccuracy is only slightly weaker. In August, Sienna had shown Lazio leading Paladino by 13 points — 37 points off the September result, where Paladino won by 24 points.

Unnamed Senior Dems Admit Delaware Senate Race Will Be Close

Some more insight into why Obama Went Down To Delaware, courtesy of HillBuzz, emphasis mine:

Somehow, I turned the topic. . .to Christine O’Donnell’s Senate race in Delaware because the guy I was talking to did a lot of fundraising in New England during the 2008 campaign and I know he “gets” states up there better than I do, having never lived there.

He told me that Christine O’Donnell is going to get VERY, VERY CLOSE to winning in Delaware but he does not think she will win. But, he emphasized, “It’s going to be scary close for Coons”.

I then asked him if he thought Scott Brown would win in Massachusetts, and he said, “No, I was surprised. I thought Coakley would win but it would be close”.

So, I’m thinking Democrats are really very scared of O’Donnell.

They can’t make the mental leap to believe she could win. . .just like they couldn’t wrap their heads around Brown winning “the Kennedy Seat”. . .but they see that O’Donnell is “close” in the way Brown was “close” in his race against Coakley.

My gut tells me that “close” means O’Donnell will win this is support continues for her nationwide the way it did for Hottie McAwesome in his Senate race.

The Cocktail Party GOP establishment didn’t like Brown anymore than it likes O’Donnell. It’s doing about as much for O’Donnell as it did for Brown, which is pretty much jack squat.

I don’t have anything concrete on this, but my GUT tells me that if we keep working hard for her that she’ll win…and defeat not only Coons, but the Cocktail Party GOP establishment too.

Message to Cocktail Party GOP establishment: Progressivism is political disco, and if you want to go under the bus, just keep screwing in the vertical.

Rule 5 Sunday is getting filed slightly early this week. Email me if you’re omitted, and we’ll queue you for next time.
Rule 5 notes with sadness the passing of Barbara Billingsley.

Alas, her health precluded applying her talents to translating the ObamaCare legislation into sane English.
And now, our regular show.

If you were edified by Night Sweats of a Small Businessman, you’ll enjoy the follow up, Liberals Are Not The Enemy. . .They’re Just Wrong:

So, what now? Where do we go from here? I wish I was that smart. The only piece of advice I can give is this: look to your fellow citizen for help. Agree on the facts as they are. Deliberate with the most liberal of them and try to get them off the talking points long enough to have a sincere dialog. Liberals are not the enemy, they are just wrong.
Irish Cicero, the head man at Washington Rebel, often screams at us to do just that, stop relying on bumper stickers to do our talking. Yes, dialog with a liberal sucks: they never stay on point; they want to blame Bush for everything and absolve Obama of exactly the same actions. Call it your “duty” to do so. It is for the republic.
Most of all, don’t look for this election to solve anything for you. The debt schedule is exactly the same, no matter who is in power. It doesn’t matter who the “general partner” is when the wheels come off, they have been loose for a long time.

Today I sent off a birthday card to someone I care for very deeply who drank the kool-aid, so this post hits home.
Thanks to the Internet, we continue the crawl out from under the Progressive thumb. We still have an election to support in a fortnight. But as you phonebank for your candidate, as you encounter those who subscribe to this raft of ideas that have failed, have compassion.
The number of actual evil masterminds on the left isn’t that great, I’d surmise. The bulk of them are people who may subscribe to their collectivist ideas.
Prediction: after the election, the Federal Reserve is going to go for another round of quantitative easing. That’s counterfeiting to you and me, and, unless you’re the one writing the laws, you’re going to find yourself outside the law for doing it. If you’re the lawmaker, you merely crash the economy.
With all of the other uncertainty in the world, this QE will prove disastrous. The Masters of the Universe will stand revealed as diabolical, or clowns, which difference will be academic in the wreckage. This will be our economic winter, as all of the closed shops do that business variation of José Feliciano: “For Lease Navidad”.
It’s going to suck, but I submit that no less teacher than suction will be of any use: we will have to get through Progressive Winter to reach the post-Progressive Spring. The only thing royal about this road is the PITA.
Just as the President really didn’t deliver on Hope and Change in any useful way, uniting the country has also been a wash.  But where that son of a Kenyan failed to bring us together, hardship will likely give us a solid compacting.
Also, I could be wrong, which is also not a bad thing.
